The Cannon Fodder Ex-Wife Changes to Take the Black Moonlight Script - Chapter 29.2
Shang Shiqian was baffled: “What’s with the scoff? Do you look down on me?”
Wei Yixian sneered: “Are they paying you for this training?”
Shang Shiqian paused: “Well, no mention of that.”
“Then what right do they have to ask for your help?”
Shang Shiqian: Huh?
Wei Yixian wasn’t questioning her ability but rather implying the students weren’t worthy of her?
She beamed: “Money isn’t the main thing. They’re letting me use the Go Room to play, so coaching them is just a side benefit.”
She added: “Besides, Weng Qizheng, 5-dan, is the person who recognizes me the most after you!”
To invite someone with no official rank, no affiliation to the school, and even an unclear background to coach students Weng Qizheng undoubtedly had remarkable boldness.
Her appreciation for Shang Shiqian was precisely what moved Shang Shiqian the most.
When Shang Shiqian spoke of this, her eyes were bright and clear, and Wei Yixian knew she had already made up her mind.
However, there was one thing Shang Shiqian said that Wei Yixian couldn’t quite agree with: “You said I approve of you?”
Shang Shiqian laughed. “If you didn’t approve of me, why would you have sought me out as your Go teacher?”
Wei Yixian felt as if her soul had been lashed, the pain seeping from invisible wounds, spreading all over her body.
She couldn’t explain that her initial reason for asking Shang Shiqian to teach her Go wasn’t out of recognition for her skill, but rather a despicable test.
Wei Yixian turned her head toward the car window.
The tinted glass reflected her bloodshot eyes and pale face.
Upon returning to Tianhao Garden, Wei Yixian, acting out of character, was the first to get out of the car and head into the villa.
Shang Shiqian glanced at the time displayed on the car’s television and suddenly realized something.
She asked the driver, Old Liu, “Uncle Liu, why did Wei Yixian leave work so early today?”
On days without social engagements, Wei Yixian never left work before 6:30 p.m.
It was only 5:00 now.
Meaning Wei Yixian must have left by 4:30 at the latest.
Old Liu chuckled. “How would we know? We just follow whatever arrangements Wei’s secretary makes.”
He was telling the truth.
Shang Shiqian then inspected the car. “Why are there only two umbrellas in here? And since there are two, and you don’t need one while sitting in the car, why didn’t she take an extra one?”
Old Liu: “…”
Don’t ask, he was convinced Wei Yixian was under some kind of spell.
Fortunately, Pu Feifei, noticing Shang Shiqian hadn’t come in yet, came looking and successfully “rescued” Old Liu from the awkward situation.
Pu Feifei asked, “Xiao Shang, didn’t you say you got caught in the rain? Why aren’t you going inside to shower?”
“Sister Pu, did Wei Yixian say I got wet from the rain?” Shang Shiqian looked down in surprise at her damp shoulder.
Had Wei Yixian noticed it earlier?
Pu Feifei smiled. “Yes, Wei mentioned it. I’ve also asked someone to prepare ginger tea, you can have some after your shower.”
“Ginger tea? Then Wei Yixian should drink more of it. She’s prone to cold.”
–
Study.
Wei Yixian stood before the display cabinet, silently gazing at the Go set inside.
She unlocked it and reached for the Go Stone Jar containing the old Yunzi stones, but just as her fingers were about to touch it, she abruptly withdrew her hand.
Her phone rang at just the right moment.
She closed the cabinet door, declined the call, and instead dialed Xie Mei.
“There are a few online articles about the Go tournament with Shang Shiqian’s photos. Have someone take them down.”
Xie Mei, who had just finished a task for her boss and was finally settling down for a drink, was stunned.
“Why delete photos of Fourth Miss Shang?”
Was it related to that paternity report?
But even if the results showed Shang Shiyu and Shang Shidai were related, it would only mean the Shang family had hidden an illegitimate child or perhaps some dramatic family soap opera.
There had been news before about two girls who discovered in college that they looked identical, only to find out through DNA testing that they were twin sisters.
And if following TV drama logic, maybe Shang Yunyu or her partner Zhu Fu had an affair, and the scorned lover, seeking revenge, snatched one of the daughters when Shang Yunyu gave birth. Twenty years later, the lover returned with the girl to exact vengeance on the Shang family!
Wei Yixian’s icy words interrupted Xie Mei’s speculations about family drama.
“Assistant Xie, shall I report this matter to you?”
Xie Mei shivered and hurriedly replied, “Understood, President Wei.”
In truth, Shang Shiqian’s photos had been mostly deleted eight years ago after the case was closed.
The Wei family suppressed the news to protect Wei Corporation’s stock price.
The Shang family, due to the special status of their members, didn’t want too much public attention on them, official channels also preferred to avoid scrutiny.
Moreover, Shang Yu Huang, chairwoman of Phoenix Group, didn’t want Shang Shiqian’s photos to be exploited by unscrupulous individuals, subjecting her younger sister’s family, who had just lost a loved one o further trauma.
After news of Shang Shiqian’s murder spread, the fact that the perpetrator was male invited a flood of malicious gossip.
Though the Shang and Wei families, along with authorities, swiftly dealt with such individuals, countless vile voices still lurked in the shadows, spreading their poison in corners beyond official control.
Under these circumstances, details of Shang Shiqian’s case were largely concealed.
Content related to her private life vanished entirely from the internet, leaving only records of her professional career and text-based competition reports.
However, the internet is vast. Even after purging mainstream platforms, some photos inevitably slipped through the cracks.
Eight years later, neither the Shang nor Wei family paid much attention to online remnants.
Yet when searching “Shang Shiqian,” these competition photos resurfaced in the results.
After hanging up, Xie Mei sighed and resignedly returned to the company, instructing the tech department to scour all possible channels for Shang Shiqian’s photos so she could handle the cleanup.
–
A knock sounded on the study door. Pu Feifei’s voice came from outside: “President Wei, the ginger tea is ready. Would you like it now?”
“Come in.”
Wei Yixian sat on the sofa.
Pu Feifei entered, confirming that Wei Yixian hadn’t showered yet, and placed the ginger tea on the coffee table before fetching a blanket to drape over her shoulders.
As the household’s de facto manager and personal secretary, Pu Feifei was adept at reading Wei Yixian’s intentions. “Do you have any work instructions, President Wei?”
“Do you have a driver’s license?”
“Class B, C, and D.”
Wei Yixian nodded. “Starting tomorrow, you’ll be responsible for Shang Shiyu’s transportation. Additionally, assign two female bodyguards to rotate as her close protection when she’s out. Move her to the east guest bedroom, and from now on, her living arrangements will no longer follow guest standards.”
Pu Feifei’s expression remained neutral, but internally, she was reeling.
Has Little Shang been promoted?
This wasn’t something she could pry into.
She took a deep breath and smiled. “Understood, President Wei.”
As she turned to leave, Wei Yixian added, “Purchase a few new cars, register them under your name. Don’t use any vehicles under mine when transporting her.”
Pu Feifei nearly stumbled. “Afew?”
“About five. Rotate them.”
“Budget?”
“Price isn’t important. Just ensure they’re inconspicuous.”
After a pause, Pu Feifei ventured, “Any other special instructions?”
“From now on, lawn maintenance will only happen after she wakes up and leaves the house.”
Pu Feifei thought, So, you did know she’s been waking up to the lawnmower all this time!?
