- Chapter 10 - Temptation
When Shang Shiqian returned to the vicinity of the Shang family’s new gates, a red Phantom was slowly driving out from within.
Her gaze swept past the tourists treating the Shang residence gates as a photo spot, firmly following that vehicle.
Through the front windshield, she could see the woman in the driver’s seat Shang Shixing, her eldest sister, instantly recognizable despite having just met two days prior. Yet now, her chest felt stuffed with cotton, suffocating and uncomfortable.
As the car turned onto the main road, Shang Shiqian noticed what appeared to be a five- or six-year-old girl in the backseat’s child safety seat. Unfortunately, the car quickly drove away before she could get a clear look at the child.
Was that her sister’s child?
Shang Shiqian poked the system: “Little Black System, is that my niece?”
[No idea~]
Shang Shiqian was disappointed: “How come this self-service feature can’t find anything? This isn’t energy-saving mode, it’s offline status.”
Suddenly, inspiration struck. She negotiated with the system: “Little Black System, can you ‘locally save’ the original novel? Like, record it into the self-service feature so even when you’re offline, I can still check character info or plot points?”
While waiting for the bus that morning, she’d skimmed the original novel several chapters in, her name wasn’t mentioned at all. Her existence was only briefly referenced as “Wei Yixian’s ex-wife” in passing gossip after Wei Yixian was seen on a “date” with her first love.
Shang Shiqian: …
So cannon fodders don’t even deserve to be named?
The subsequent plot unfolded through Wei Yixian’s flashbacks about how she met and fell in love with her first love.
Knowing she’d had almost no connection with Wei Yixian before their marriage, Shang Shiqian certainly wouldn’t appear in those youthful recollections, so she planned to skip the school arc.
But flipping to the school arc’s final chapter, she found Wei Yixian’s memories abruptly ended after the first love went abroad, immediately jumping to their reunion timeline.
Shang Shiqian instantly lost interest, deciding to toss the novel aside to gather dust.
Thus, if she could use the system’s self-service to get the information she needed, there’d be no reason to waste time reading the original novel.
The system replied: [Host’s suggestion recorded! This service will be implemented in the next system update!]
Shang Shiqian: “When’s the next update?”
[When we have sufficient energy, of course.]
Shang Shiqian: …
This was clearly tempting her to complete missions!

When Wei Yixian received her bodyguard’s call reporting that Shang Shiqian had gone to the Shang residence again and nearly encountered Shang Shixing, she coldly ordered: “Find a way to make her leave that area without arousing suspicion.”
This impostor truly had a death wish, how dare she approach the Shang family wearing Shang Shiqian’s face?
Did she think that by surgically altering herself to resemble Shang Shiqian, the Shangs would accept her as a substitute and transfer their longing for Shang Shiqian onto her?
Dream on!
She would only provoke the Shang family.
Shang Shiqian was the Shang family’s scar, reverse scale, and eternal pain. Flaunting an identical face to Shang Shiqian’s would only invite their vengeance.
If it weren’t for knowing she was here for her, Wei Yixian would have handed the person over to the Shang family yesterday.
When the female secretary knocked and entered, she saw Wei Yixian wearing a dark expression again and immediately knew her mood was foul. This was precisely the time when one could easily be nitpicked, and she hesitated, unsure whether to proceed or pretend nothing had happened and quietly retreat.
Wei Yixian glanced at her, silently asking what she needed.
The secretary steeled herself and stepped forward. “President Wei, the front desk just called. Miss Yin Zaishui, the consultant from Zhou Ran Group, said she had an appointment with you at this time last night, but there’s no such entry on your schedule…”
Wei Yixian checked her wristwatch and replied nonchalantly, “Yes, she booked it via private call last night. I forgot to inform you.”
She had originally intended to have the secretary add the appointment, but her attention had been diverted by Shang Shiqian’s conversation with the system, making her forget.
The secretary forced a professional smile. “She’s already arrived. Would you like to meet her here or in the reception room?”
“Have her come up directly.”
The secretary hurried out to notify the front desk.
Soon, the elevator doors opened, and the secretary’s gaze was immediately drawn to the striking red suit the woman wore.
Few could pull off such a bold color, but it suited the newcomer perfectly, accentuating her effortless elegance and sharp professionalism. Her cascading waves and bold Euro-American makeup further highlighted her radiant, assertive charm.
“Hi~” Yin Zaishui greeted the secretary with a bright smile.
The secretary’s heart raced at the dazzling grin, but she quickly reminded herself that this was the rumored “President Wei’s first love and unattainable white moonlight.” Such beauty was far beyond her reach, so she swiftly dismissed any wandering thoughts and gestured politely. “Miss Yin, this way, please.”
With just a cursory glance around, Yin Zaishui followed the secretary into Wei Yixian’s office.
Wei Yixian stood up.
“Wei!” Yin Zaishui strode toward her, extending a hand, but Wei Yixian walked straight past her and settled onto the sofa, instructing the secretary, “Coffee.”
The secretary hastily retreated to prepare it.
Yin Zaishui withdrew her hand and took a seat opposite Wei Yixian. “You’re so cold to me, Wei.”
Wei Yixian replied, “This is my standard attitude toward enemies.”
She added, “And drop that odd affectation. Speak normally.”
Yin Zaishui burst into laughter, only composing herself when Wei Yixian’s expression darkened further. “You’ve become less adorable. But no matter, I brought you a birthday gift.”
She retrieved an exquisite jewelry box from her handbag, bearing the logo of a globally renowned luxury brand.
Wei Yixian showed little interest. “A million-dollar gift or a billion-dollar enterprise which do you think I’d choose?”
Yin Zaishui countered, “Business is business, personal ties are personal. I can separate the two. And I didn’t bring this gift for the Zhou Ran Group acquisition case. After all these years apart, I just wanted to catch up.”
Wei Yixian, initially ready to dismiss her for wasting work time on personal matters, hesitated upon remembering “Shang Shiyu” and held back.
She said, “In the business world, every ‘past affection’ comes with a price tag. Neither of us are teenagers anymore. After years in this industry, if we still don’t understand that, I’d have to question whether your glowing reputation is overrated.”
Yin Zaishui hadn’t expected Wei Yixian to show no regard for their past at all. Back then, they had parted on amicable terms, and they’d even crossed paths at financial summits in recent years. Back then, Wei Yixian hadn’t been nearly as guarded as she was now.
Was it simply because she had become a consultant for Zhou Ran’s group?

Shang Shiqian got chased off.
Along with the tourists snapping photos at the Shang family’s gates and the nearby street vendors, she was forced to leave the area by city inspectors.
Actually, it wasn’t the inspectors who directly drove them away. The vendors had heard the cry of “Inspectors are coming!” and immediately halted transactions, released their handbrakes, and sped off in their modified tricycles like the wind.
Shang Shiqian’s lunch was still cooking on one of those vehicles. Having already paid, she had no choice but to chase after it with the other customers, that money had been dug out of a trash can after swallowing her pride! How could she just let it go?
As the tricycle grew more distant, a quick-witted girl running alongside her with a basket of ingredients shouted, “Boss, let me on! I’ll help you cook the spicy hot pot!”
The vendor actually stopped and let both of them climb aboard.
Minutes later, the two sat facing each other on the tricycle.
Before them, ingredients bubbled in the boiling pot.
The vendor drove, occasionally glancing back: “Just toss in whatever you ordered!”
Shang Shiqian: …Huh?
The girl turned to her. “Sis, is this yours?”
Shang Shiqian nodded, and the girl fished it out into a paper bowl for her. “Not sure how you like it, so add your own seasoning.”
Shang Shiqian: …
After taste-testing for pigeons and scavenging money from garbage, she had now unlocked a brand-new life experience.
How had she never realized before that life could be so full of novel adventures?
Meanwhile, at Wei Corporation’s headquarters, inside the CEO’s office.
Yin Zaishui, about to leave, extended a lunch invitation to Wei Yixian.
Just as Wei Yixian was about to respond, her private phone rang.
“I have official matters to attend to,” she said to Yin Zaishui. “I won’t see you out.”
Yin Zaishui shrugged and exited the office.
Wei Yixian answered the call, and moments later, her face darkened. “You lost her?”
The bodyguard sounded conflicted. “…Yeah. There was an incident. She got taken away by a spicy hot pot tricycle.”
Bodyguard: CEO Wei, your wife ran off with the spicy hot pot.
CEO Wei: ?
