The Cannon Fodder Became the Empire's Beloved Omega - Chapter 4
Upon hearing these words, Ji Huai’s face instantly turned deathly pale.
Ye Yizhou actually intended to interfere with his university admission quota?! How could he?!
He abruptly stood up, ready to refute the claim. But in the next moment, the overwhelming aura of a high-ranking Alpha pressed down on him, making his legs tremble and forcing him to sit back down with a grim expression.
Not yet, it wasn’t the right time.
Ji Huai could only console himself with this thought.
Ye Yizhou then turned to Yu Ruan and said, “Alright, your innocence has been proven. No one will dare expel you now. Sit down and focus on the lesson.”
Yu Ruan stared blankly at Ye Yizhou, nodded, and sat back down in a daze.
Just like that, it was over?
What about Ji Huai? Was there really not going to be another dramatic twist?
At that moment, Yu Ruan didn’t know how to feel. On one hand, the promising future that had been within his grasp had slipped away. On the other hand, he was genuinely relieved to have cleared his name of the false accusations.
After all, he wasn’t irrational. No sane person would enjoy being unfairly blamed.
With mixed emotions, Yu Ruan pulled out his half-unpacked Interstellar History textbook and obediently began to study.
After such a dramatic turn of events, the class had lost all interest in learning. Instead, they gathered in hushed groups, whispering and discussing what had just happened.
Ye Yizhou paid them no mind, continuing his lecture while allowing the discussions to simmer.
Various gazes lingered on the key figures involved, accompanied by murmurs that turned Ji Huai’s face as dark as a burnt pot.
The class period flew by. When the bell rang, Ye Yizhou collected his teaching materials and dismissed the students.
At his words, the classroom erupted into cheers. Ji Huai’s expression finally brightened slightly.
Interstellar History was only held once a week. Although Ye Yizhou was their homeroom teacher, he was rarely seen on campus outside of class hours.
As long as he endured this one lesson, Ye Yizhou would no longer have the time to meddle with the Xingyun University admission quota. By the time he returned to school next week, the decision would be set in stone, and the spot would be his. Even if Ye Yizhou wanted to intervene, it would be too late.
But before Ji Huai could revel in his relief for long, Ye Yizhou tapped his wristwatch, seemingly checking a message. Then, he raised an eyebrow slightly.
Ji Huai’s heart skipped a beat, and a sense of foreboding washed over him.
Sure enough, the next moment, Ye Yizhou announced, “Ji Huai, your disciplinary notice has been issued. Don’t worry, it’s just a written self-criticism. As for He Xin.”
He paused briefly before adding with a smile, “I’m afraid you won’t be able to attend my next class.”
In other words, it was time for him to “get lost.”
He Xin sat frozen in his chair for a long moment before letting out a loud sob, burying his face in his hands and weeping uncontrollably.
Without even a glance in his direction, Ye Yizhou turned and walked away.
Yu Ruan glanced at the pitiful-looking He Xin, hesitated for a moment, then hurried out of the classroom after Ye Yizhou.
Ye Yizhou seemed to have anticipated this, waiting for him to catch up. Feeling a bit embarrassed, Yu Ruan scratched the tip of his nose and said, “Professor Ye, thank you for helping me clear my name today.”
“It’s alright.” Ye Yizhou gave him a slight smile. “I just happened to have a recording. If you had actually done it, things wouldn’t have turned out this way. No need to thank me.”
Yu Ruan lowered his head and murmured an “Mm,” feeling a bit guilty.
Ye Yizhou made it sound simple, but Stellar University was notoriously difficult to get into, and obtaining a recording from the exam proctor was even more challenging. Who knew how many connections he had to pull for that?
Moreover, offending Ji Huai also meant offending his destined partner, Li Hong. The prestige of Young Master Li was practically legendary throughout Xinle. Now that Ye Yizhou had crossed him, what would happen in the future?
Yu Ruan felt deeply remorseful.
As if sensing his thoughts, Ye Yizhou asked, “How are your grades in cooking class?”
Yu Ruan looked at him blankly.
Why bring this up all of a sudden?
In this interstellar era, cooking was a subject offered in almost every university. However, as an “Alpha,” Yu Ruan didn’t need to take this course.
“I haven’t taken that class,” Yu Ruan said.
Although he had quite enjoyed experimenting with cooking in his previous life, in this life, the plot had saddled him with the persona of a fake Alpha, forcing him to reluctantly give up such hobbies.
“Is that so?” Ye Yizhou sounded regretful. “It seems I must have mistaken you for someone else.” Yu Ruan: “?”
Ye Yizhou: “I heard you helped your class win the campus cooking competition. I thought.”
Yu Ruan suddenly understood: So that’s what Ye Yizhou was referring to!
As it turned out, Xinle Academy held a cooking competition every year, and the winning class would receive a substantial cash prize. This year, even with the main characters in his class, the dishes they prepared were still rather unpalatable.
After taking one bite, Yu Ruan couldn’t help himself and secretly remade all the dishes. Once he was done, he didn’t think much of it and went straight home, keeping his contribution under wraps.
Later, his class indeed won the championship, and the judges praised the dishes effusively, lavishing compliments on Ji Huai’s culinary skills.
Yu Ruan had thought no one had seen him do it. Who would have guessed Ye Yizhou knew about it?
His guilt immediately resurfaced: “Actually, I only know a little.”
“I’ll be staying at the university for a while,” Ye Yizhou said. “If you really feel bad about it, how about bringing me some desserts?”
Yu Ruan hesitated for a moment, then nodded.
The request wasn’t excessive at all, it was well within his capabilities and wouldn’t burden him in any way.
It could be said to be a very considerate request.
“Then it’s settled.” Ye Yizhou smiled at him. “As for the rest, don’t worry about it. I have it under control.”
Seeing his resolve, Yu Ruan had no choice but to give up on trying to persuade him.
From their brief interactions in the past, Yu Ruan had sensed that the other person was quite assertive, despite his gentle exterior.
The idea that they were living inside a book, if he hadn’t experienced it himself, Yu Ruan would have thought anyone who said such a thing was insane.
Since things had come to this, all he could do was work harder in his daily life to avoid implicating the other party.
With mixed feelings, Yu Ruan returned to the classroom. Before he could even mourn his inexplicably vanished retirement plans, his superficial teammate Yu Fei sidled up to him.
“Yu Ruan, I knew it, you’re not the type to cheat!”
Yu Fei said excitedly, “You’re so good at studying, you could easily crush Ji Huai. Why would you sabotage yourself? He Xin actually came up with such a vicious trick to harm you, how malicious, tsk tsk tsk!”
Yu Ruan absentmindedly brushed him off while pulling out his phone to browse StarNet Logistics for ingredients.
Although Kenan Star was relatively underdeveloped, its infrastructure was quite decent. If he placed an order now, the items would be delivered to his storage box by the time he got home, eliminating the need for in-person shopping, it was incredibly convenient.
Even though Ye Yizhou had only requested a small dessert, Yu Ruan had no intention of cutting corners.
The other had helped him so much; it would be utterly ungrateful to offer anything less than his best.
Yu Ruan allocated a portion of his dwindling savings, carefully listed the necessary ingredients, and selected the highest quality items within his budget before placing the order.
With a “ding,” the payment went through, and the shipment began. Yu Ruan winced as he watched the credits in his account instantly drop to double digits, letting out a soft, pained hiss.
Life really is tough.
Seeing him silent and downcast, Yu Fei assumed he was still upset about being wronged and tried to comfort him. “Yu Ruan, don’t be sad. I think you’re amazing, you’re the best in our class, even Ji Huai can’t compare to you!”
Before he finished speaking, a soft, timid voice chimed in from the side.
“As an Omega, I’m naturally not as capable as Yu Ruan,” the speaker said shyly. “You’re overestimating me, Yu Fei. I’m not worthy of being compared to him.”
Yu Ruan glanced over and was surprised to see that it was Ji Huai.
Caught gossiping, Yu Fei’s expression stiffened, and he awkwardly twitched his lips.
Ji Huai’s eyes met Yu Ruan’s briefly. After a moment, he nodded slightly without a word and returned to his seat.
Once he was gone, Yu Fei curled his lip and made a gagging gesture toward Yu Ruan.
Yu Ruan gave him an exasperated look.
Time passed quickly, and soon it was time to head home after school.
Xinle Academy always dismissed early, and the campus quickly filled with students coming and going.
Yu Ruan weaved through the crowd toward the shuttle stop. Since he had quit all his part-time jobs in anticipation of the plot’s conclusion, he could head home early today to prepare for cooking later.
Xinle Academy provided free dormitories for students, but as an Omega pretending to be an Alpha, Yu Ruan obviously couldn’t stay there. Reluctantly, he had to rent a place near the school.
Fortunately, renting offered more freedom and indirectly made it easier for him to take on various jobs, which wasn’t too bad.
Yu Ruan retrieved the ingredients he’d ordered from the storage box downstairs and took the elevator up.
The area he lived in was considered an upscale neighborhood near the school. Under normal circumstances, his savings wouldn’t have allowed him to afford such a place. But a while ago, his previous landlord had suddenly informed him that a relative’s daughter needed to stay, so they could no longer rent to him. Forced to find a new place in a hurry, Yu Ruan had stumbled upon the listing for this apartment by chance.
In an era where a casual lavish meal could easily cost a thousand star credits, Yu Ruan almost thought he had misread the price when he saw this single-room apartment listed for just three hundred star credits a month.
At the time, he had very little money left in his pocket and couldn’t afford a higher rent. With the mindset that he might as well sleep in a pigsty, Yu Ruan went to check out the apartment in the residential complex. To his surprise, the moment he arrived at the entrance, he was stunned by the sheer luxury of the place.
It had excellent security, a beautiful environment, and well-equipped facilities, truly top-tier.
Honestly, adding two zeros after the 300 star credits would have made the price seem more believable.
With a mix of anxiety and hope, Yu Ruan asked the landlord if there had been a mistake in the listing, but the other party firmly assured him that he hadn’t misread it.
Whether it was the environment or the price, the apartment perfectly met Yu Ruan’s needs, and he was utterly captivated. He almost immediately signed the contract and moved in overnight.
The newly rented apartment was nearly perfect, and Yu Ruan was extremely satisfied.
The only issue was that the landlord he was sharing the apartment with was an Alpha.
