The Beta Wife Claimed by Competing Alphas - Chapter 1
It was hot. An indescribable discomfort permeated his entire body. It hurt so much.
Mu Yan forced his eyes open, only to find himself in an unfamiliar hotel room. A bedside lamp cast an ambiguous, dim glow, illuminating the room’s luxurious yet minimalist decor. It was high-end and clearly expensive; it was not the kind of place he would usually frequent.
Behind the bathroom wall, the sound of water and a lingering mist suggested the presence of a second person. Mu Yan did not want to think about why he was here. Regardless of whether he would call the police later, the priority was to leave as quickly as possible.
He reached out to pull back the covers, intending to get out of bed, but his body betrayed him. The mere friction of the duvet against his skin sent a jolt through him, turning his mind momentarily blank. He was incredibly weak. The moment his feet hit the floor, he collapsed.
He had been drugged.
His last memory before blacking out was returning to his childhood home in the countryside to confront Lin Guojun about his gambling debts. Fifty thousand dollars in debt was enough to crush a small family. Mu Yan had not been in contact with his nominal father for years, but this time, the man had wept, promising to change and begging Mu Yan for help. He claimed that if he could just pay back twenty thousand, the debt collectors would not cut off his fingers.
He promised to learn how to make pancakes and fried rice to slowly pay back the rest, claiming he was already looking for a buyer for the old house. Mu Yan had frowned; no one would want a small, single-story house in the countryside, and even if it sold, it would not be worth much. Besides, where would he live? Mu Yan would not let him into his own home; did he plan to leech off his brother?
The man had eagerly poured Mu Yan a glass of water, telling him not to be angry. After drinking it, Mu Yan’s already exhausted mind and body grew heavy. When he next opened his eyes, he was here.
He braced himself against the edge of the bed, trying to push himself up, but his muscles felt as though they had dissolved. No matter how hard he tried, he could not stand. How did it come to this?
The sound of the water stopped. The person inside had finished their shower and would be out any second. In his panic, Mu Yan’s mind went haywire, leaving him frozen in place. Why does this always happen to me?
The man walked out of the bathroom wrapped in a towel. He was surprised to see Mu Yan naked by the bedside; he remembered the Beta lying quietly on the bed before he went in to shower. However, having heard too many “hard-to-get” plays in his time, he said nothing. He simply hooked his arm around the Beta’s waist and lifted him back onto the bed.
When the man’s hand, still damp with water, touched Mu Yan’s waist, the Beta shuddered. He let out a muffled, involuntary groan.
“So sensitive. Did you take something?”
Under the scorching tide of heat, Mu Yan’s consciousness began to blur. He could not understand what the man was saying; he only shook his head instinctively and tried to push him away. But in his current state, the gesture looked more like flirting. The Alpha felt no resistance. He undid his towel and leaned down to kiss Mu Yan as a form of comfort.
This supposedly gentle kiss had the opposite effect. Mu Yan jerked his head to the side, desperate to avoid the contact. He could not do this. He had a boyfriend. He and Lu Chong were almost married.
“Don’t,” Mu Yan’s voice trembled. “Please.”
But his body was already reacting to the man’s teasing. While his mind screamed in resistance, every cell in his body was sending the opposite signal.
“Are you afraid of pain?” the man asked. “I’ll be gentle, as much as I can.”
Mu Yan thought of the water he drank at his foster father’s house, and a sense of helplessness enveloped him. Why? Why does this always happen to me?
Noticing that the corners of Mu Yan’s eyes were reddening and turning wet, the man finally lost his patience and frowned. This was his first time doing something like this. He thought it was a mutual arrangement; a little resistance was fine as “flavor,” but this constant act of being forced was a mood killer.
His social circle was a mixed bag, and he had friends who enjoyed the “forced” trope, role-playing with their lovers. But he hated it. What normal person wants to act like a predator?
“I don’t like criers. If you want to pay off your father’s debt, have some professional awareness.”
The man’s brow was slightly furrowed, but it did not detract from his handsome features. If Mu Yan had not been drugged, he would have realized he actually knew this man. He was the person who had helped him get into a club when he was looking for his brother and got stuck at the door.
“Ugh!”
The man pinned him to the bed and kissed him hungrily. Mu Yan struggled to push him away, but the man’s arms were like iron. Any resistance was like an ant trying to shake a tree. Mu Yan was not used to the man’s pace; the lack of oxygen left his mind blank and his face flushed.
His drugged body began to crave the sensation. When the man momentarily let go, Mu Yan’s subconscious actually began to want more. He lost all his strength and leaned into the man’s chest, gasping for air.
Though the Beta was not “world-stoppingly” beautiful, his face was clean and obedient; it was the kind of face that was impossible to dislike. Now, flushed from the lack of oxygen and trembling with physiological tears, he looked utterly vulnerable.
The man seemed pleased by this perceived dependence and kissed his wet eyes as a reward. If he likes to cry, let him cry.
When the man pressed down on him again, Mu Yan was still breathless. Before he could react, he was pinned. His tears fell like an endless stream. The man, assuming he was just being delicate or afraid of pain, let out a frustrated click of his tongue.
“As if I’m not the one paying you. Don’t be so fragile. Do I really have to serve you?”
“I didn’t take. Ah!”
The pain cut Mu Yan off. He jolted, his tears soaking into the pillow. The man was fully composed, while Mu Yan was exposed. Despite never receiving a cent, Mu Yan felt the sickening sensation of having taken “dirty money.”
Though the man spoke impatiently, he did not want to send the boy to the hospital. He suppressed his dissatisfaction and did not force the final step immediately.
Mu Yan was not exactly inexperienced. Objectively, Lu Chong was far more aggressive and impatient during his heat. Moreover, the drug made Mu Yan’s body highly receptive. As the man held him, kissing and coaxing him, his body betrayed his mind, shamefully surrendering to the pleasure.
But the gentleness was only a facade. Driven by Alpha instinct, the man bit down on the back of Mu Yan’s neck. Mu Yan trembled and tried to push him away, wanting to skip this useless step.
“I’m a Beta. I can’t be marked. Please, don’t bite.”
Shang Qiyue woke up and checked his watch; it was only 7:30 AM. He intended to go back to sleep, but the person beside him was gone, leaving only a faint indentation in the mattress.
The faint sound of water came from the bathroom. He realized that in the chaos of the previous night, he had not helped Mu Yan clean up. It had been a messy night. He reached for his phone and called his assistant to bring two sets of clothes.
“Yes, sir. What size for the second set?”
His assistant was also a Beta. Mu Yan was about the same height, though his waist was likely much narrower. “Just buy your own size.”
He hung up and replied to a few messages. Then, after a moment’s thought, he opened the bathroom door.
The Beta was curled up in the bathtub, his body covered in the red marks Shang Qiyue had left the night before. Mu Yan jumped at the sight of him, his hand trembling so hard he nearly dropped his phone.
When he turned his head, Shang Qiyue noticed his bitten lip was quivering, and his face was still stained with tears. Mu Yan instinctively tried to lock his phone screen, failing several times in his panic.
Shang Qiyue guessed what he was doing.
“You want to call the police?” He frowned. “You were actually forced?”
Mu Yan shook his head instinctively. Having calmed down, he had already abandoned the idea. This man was clearly powerful. Even if he reported it, the police might not take his side.
He was a Beta without pheromones, not even exceptionally beautiful. Why would a wealthy, handsome Alpha like this, who could have any Omega he wanted, need to force a Beta? Besides, with the man’s influence, he would find a way to settle it anyway.
Mu Yan did not want to offend him. His mother was in the hospital and could not handle any shocks. Lu Chong’s startup was fragile and could not survive a scandal.
The last person he saw before the hotel was Lin Guojun. The last thing he drank was the water Lin Guojun gave him. The truth was clear: his biological father had made a deal. He took this man’s money and drugged Mu Yan to put him in this bed.
Mu Yan summoned his courage and looked up at the man. “Sir, there might be a misunderstanding between us. I won’t call the police, I won’t hold a grudge, and I don’t expect you to take responsibility. Can we just leave it at this?”
