Mu Yan is a perfectly ordinary Beta. In his lackluster life, the only thing he seems to have to be proud of is having a partner who is a “chosen one” Alpha.

In a rented room in the big city, under the dim yellow light, their breaths intertwined. As the sweat dripped from Lu Chong’s face, Mu Yan gazed at those handsome and familiar features. His mind wandered slightly, secretly calculating how much longer it would take for them to save enough to buy an 80-square-meter apartment in this city.

He was stewing pigeon soup for Lu Chong when he received a call from his foster father’s debt collector. Lu Chong hadn’t been sleeping well lately, and pigeon soup helps calm the nerves. At the time, Mu Yan didn’t know that Lu Chong was actually a young master who had run away from home after a fight; the debt the collector was demanding was nothing more than the cost of a single night’s drinks to Lu Chong.

Meeting Shang Qiyue was an accident. When Mu Yan woke up, he was already in the man’s bed. His body felt weak and he was burning up, as if he had a severe fever. Shang Qiyue seemed to mistake his resistance for an act and ignored his pleas.

The next morning, Mu Yan’s waist ached terribly. His fair, slender neck was covered in brutal bite marks, and his entire body was marked by the Alpha. It was only when Shang Qiyue saw Mu Yan crying in the bathroom while cleaning himself even trying to reach for his phone to call the police that the man finally realized what was happening.

Shang Qiyue wasn’t in the habit of coaxing people; usually, people did everything they could just to climb into his bed. But today, he uncharacteristically reached out to wipe the Beta’s tears.

“Stop crying. I didn’t know you were forced. Stay with me. I’ll settle your family’s matters, and you won’t lack for money.”

Mu Yan sobbed quietly, whispering something.

“Boyfriend?” Mu Yan’s phone lock screen lit up at that moment. Shang Qiyue looked at the photo of Mu Yan smiling tenderly and shyly next to another man, and he let out a mocking laugh.

The next time he saw Lu Chong was at the engagement banquet of the Lu family’s eldest daughter. The man, dressed in a white suit, stood tall and elegant, surrounded by several Omegas with exquisite temperaments and looks like a flock of beautiful white swans.

Shang Qiyue leaned into Mu Yan’s ear and whispered, “Unexpected, isn’t it? The young master of the S-City Lu family wouldn’t even help you with that small favor.”

Lu Chong’s gaze seemed to sweep over them casually, looking as cold and detached as ever, as if nothing could catch his eye. But as Shang Qiyue looked back triumphantly, the veins on the hand Lu Chong used to hold his wine glass bulged prominently, nearly crushing the glass. He left behind a spill of red wine that looked like blood.

Shang Qiyue took Mu Yan away before the banquet ended. Because he was in a good mood, he was much gentler than usual, but Mu Yan was trembling violently.

“Why are you crying so piteously, baby?”
