- The Beta Fake Young Master Just Wants to Decline the Shura Field
- Chapter 4 - Crying Until His Whole Body Turned Red
It was nearly midnight. Inside the elegantly decorated suite, the Beta’s clothes were in disarray, his eyelashes were damp with moisture, and his lips trembled uncontrollably. “I, I can’t do this anymore. Please let me go.”
His legs were weak and aching, but the three Alphas in front of him clearly had no intention of letting him off the hook.
“Tell me, what is your greatest weakness?” “During your four years of university, you did not have any high-value internships. How are you going to prove you are qualified for this job?” “You look very aggrieved. Is there anything that has made you feel even more miserable than you do right now?”
Jiang Lanyi was flushed red with humiliation, teeth marks bitten into his lower lip. His voice squeezed out of his throat, “I…”
Even for a Beta, he was considered tall at 181cm, but the Alphas opposite him were all nearly 190cm, with broad shoulders and long legs. Sitting there, they exuded an air of scrutiny and investigation. Their expressionless faces made him look incredibly pitiable.
Xiao Chi, who was flanked by the others, gave a faint sigh and lowered his eyelashes, looking disappointed as if he could not bear to watch anymore. “Let us end it here for today.”
At his word, the two subordinates stood up immediately but remained still, waiting for Xiao Chi’s next instruction.
“We can follow up in the group chat. Thank you both for your hard work; Andy will calculate the overtime pay tomorrow.”
At the mention of money, the smiles on the subordinates’ faces became much more sincere. They said things like “Thank you, Little Director Xiao,” “It is all in a day’s work,” and “I hope this was helpful to Mr. Jiang,” before leaving.
Jiang Lanyi leaned against his chair, still unable to snap out of it.
Xiao Chi stood up. “What are your plans for tomorrow?”
Jiang Lanyi looked up at him in terror. One hour of brainstorming plus half an hour of resume editing, followed by a full two hours of a simulated stress interview. By the end, he did not even dare to breathe loudly. His smartwatch showed his heart rate hitting 140, buzzing a “stress overload” warning at him.
Was Xiao Chi asking because he wanted to torture him further?
“If you have no plans, there is a jet ski experience after breakfast. Want to try?”
Jiang Lanyi’s eyes lit up; the swirling tears from moments ago seemed like a mere illusion. He asked hesitantly, “Those two, they will be busy tomorrow, right?” If he saw them while jet skiing, he was worried he might have a physiological reaction and vomit.
Xiao Chi noticed the wet streaks left by sweat on his cheeks. When his eyes were wide, his chin looked even pointier. The teeth marks on his lips had not faded, and new ones had been added.
“Yes. Just contact them through the work group from now on; they have their own jobs to attend to.” Xiao Chi had not let them add Jiang Lanyi’s contact information, nor had he even mentioned their names.
Jiang Lanyi wanted to wave his hand and say “never again,” but that seemed too ungrateful. He started to raise his hand, then lowered it dejectedly. “That, thank you,” he said.
“Do not mention it.” Xiao Chi was taking off his suit jacket, draping it over his forearm. His black shirt clung to his well-defined muscles, tucked neatly into his trousers at his narrow waist.
Jiang Lanyi watched unblinkingly. When he blinked again, he realized Xiao Chi was also looking at him, so he stood up as if nothing were wrong. “Really, thanks. I am very tired, going to sleep now. Goodnight.”
His pace was steady, but those last few steps back to his room looked like a dash. He was acting clumsily.
Xiao Chi placed his large hand on his own waist and then pressed against his lower back. He had been hitting the gym frequently lately, which was why this naturally well-proportioned body could maintain peak condition, slim where it should be slim and thick where it should be thick.
And Jiang Lanyi clearly liked it.
Xiao Chi returned to the master bedroom. While showering and washing up, he caught himself smiling in the mirror. He did not like the way he looked when he smiled; his mouth instantly pulled downward, his expression returning to cold indifference and unreadable.
But at the thought of Jiang Lanyi’s red-rimmed eyes from being bullied tonight, he found him cute again and wanted to smile. His heart felt incredibly soft, and the stiff skin between his eyebrows relaxed.
Jiang Lanyi. Jiang Lanyi.
Xiao Chi chewed the name on the tip of his tongue, feeling that no matter how it was spoken, it sounded melodious, and no matter how it was written, it was pleasing to the eye.
He was just a bit dim-witted. With just a little bit of difficulty thrown his way, he became so flustered he did not know what to do; his toes curled inside his disposable slippers, yet his dark eyes still tried hard to look straight back. The more stubborn he was, the more it made one want to be a little more excessive, to truly probe where his limits lay.
If that line of defense were completely broken, would the tears pooled in his eyes all fall? Falling pitter-patter, like a faucet that could not be turned off. Then he would cry until his whole body turned red, trembling and pouting as he said, “Spare me, I really cannot take anymore.”
Xiao Chi gasped. The bathroom was misty with steam; he had to tilt his head back to get more oxygen. The hot water hit his chest, adding fuel to the fire of his burning desire. The scorching heat carried an absolutely aggressive Alpha scent, causing winding veins to bulge and throb beneath his skin.
His rut should not be for another two weeks.
Xiao Chi rinsed everything off and scrubbed his hands five times with disinfectant soap until his fingertips were almost wrinkled from the water before he finally stopped. He felt a bit dizzy; it was hard to tell if it was from the stuffy bathroom or his pheromones acting up.
But Xiao Chi had no intention of distinguishing between them. He took out soothing medicine and sedative capsules from his pillbox and swallowed them with a gulp of water. The soothing medicine was a bit bitter, and even the orange sweetener could not mask it. He had hated taking it since he first presented at eighteen.
Especially during his first rut, he had not brought medicine to school and was pinned down by two burly school doctors who took him to the clinic like a criminal or a mental patient, strapping him to a stretcher. It was a total loss of dignity.
Because of that, Xiao Chi did not think being an Alpha had many benefits. Physique and appearance could be achieved through hard work besides genetics. The willpower and leadership often praised in Alphas were qualities that could clearly be fostered with a little training; they were nothing special.
Just like Jiang Lanyi, even though he was just a Beta, he had been the captain since the youth training team. No matter how many Alphas joined later, they could never shake his position as leader.
If Jiang Lanyi were given a little more time, even if the intensity of the stress interview were doubled, he would surely handle it brilliantly. He had an unyielding nature and was stubborn as a mule.
Some people lamented that Jiang Lanyi was not an Alpha, saying “otherwise his future would be limitless,” but Xiao Chi scoffed at that. To be able to excel in everything just as well as an Alpha, yet not be bothered or controlled by pheromones and never lose control, there was nothing Xiao Chi envied more than a Beta like Jiang Lanyi.
He drank another glass of warm water to swallow the bitterness at the back of his tongue, then walked out of the room wearing the same style of bathrobe as Jiang Lanyi. He had not tied the belt; the hem that reached Jiang Lanyi’s calves only just passed his knees. As his long legs moved, the lines of his muscles were faintly visible.
Xiao Chi’s footsteps were silent as he stopped at the door of the second bedroom. Jiang Lanyi was likely asleep. No light leaked from the room, and there was no sound. The total silence made Xiao Chi very curious.
He returned to the master bedroom like a cat, took a tablet out from a hidden layer of his luggage, swiped to zoom in, and made a simple adjustment. A curled-up human figure appeared on the screen.
Jiang Lanyi was indeed asleep. His routine was quite regular; lying on the bed now, he had not even changed his sleeping position. Both hands were placed on his lower abdomen, obedient and well-behaved. Sleeping so soundly with eyes tightly shut, it seemed like anyone could do anything to him, and he would not even realize it when he woke up the next day.
Xiao Chi suddenly really wanted to try. Holding the tablet, he walked out of the room again.
Jiang Lanyi woke up from this sleep with an aching back and a sore body. He usually opened his eyes as soon as the alarm went off, but today, for some reason, his shoulders, hands, and legs were all sore, as if he had been sleepwalking and dragging two suitcases back to the Jiang family’s mountain home.
Yawning as he walked out of the room, he was surprised not to see Xiao Chi at the dining table. Jiang Lanyi called for breakfast and ordered a portion for him based on his memory.
The delivery guys were the same two from yesterday. Early in the morning, they looked radiant, their skin as tender as the freshly peeled boiled eggs on the plate.
Jiang Lanyi asked why they were working the morning shift right after the night shift. The one with the faint eyebrows said, “It is still the night shift. From 9 PM to 9 AM, with two hours of break in between.”
“Working for that long,” Jiang Lanyi remarked.
The one with the mole at the corner of his eye was more lively. Seeing that Jiang Lanyi was easy to talk to, handsome, and staying in the presidential suite, he started sweet-talking. “Yes. We pray every day that we encounter kind and gentle customers like you.”
The faint-browed one pinched the other’s butt and shot him a look. They were staying here together, and one of them was an Alpha. A-B relationships are not rare nowadays. You do not know their relationship; talking too much is just asking for trouble.
The one with the mole rolled his eyes at his companion. You think I am nearsighted like you? They sleep in separate rooms. The bed in the second bedroom is a mess; it is clearly a casual relationship. No need to be so cautious. Be a coward if you want, but do not stop me from getting close to a VIP.
Jiang Lanyi did not see their silent exchange, nor did he catch the flattering hints in the mole’s words. Once they set the food down, he told them to go back and rest. The one with the mole reluctantly allowed himself to be pulled away by his companion, but before leaving, he stuffed a small slip of paper into Jiang Lanyi’s hand and made a “call me” gesture.
Jiang Lanyi’s just-awakened brain had not reacted yet when the paper was snatched away and unfolded. “Our Young Master Jiang is truly charismatic.”
Xiao Chi’s voice was still a bit raspy, likely from working late. There were dark circles under his eyes. This man was sarcastic whether he slept well or not. Jiang Lanyi ignored him and picked up a bowl of fish fillet congee. “Jealous?”
Xiao Chi gripped the paper with the phone number on it. Hearing Jiang Lanyi’s casual joke, his molars ground together, and the sleepiness in his eyes mostly vanished. “How could I be?” He smoothed the paper out, set it down, and sat beside Jiang Lanyi.
Xiao Chi silently mixed his egg and potato salad, and Jiang Lanyi did not talk to him either. An Alpha’s heart is like a needle at the bottom of the ocean. Whoever dates him in the future will probably be annoyed to death; Jiang Lanyi was not going to go looking for trouble. Who knew if Xiao Chi would take his frustration out on him?
Jiang Lanyi pushed a bowl of soup toward Xiao Chi. “Bitter melon and pork rib soup. It is for clearing internal heat.”
Xiao Chi paused his salad mixing. “Soup first thing in the morning?”
Jiang Lanyi gave a fake smile. “We have reached the age where we need to look after our health.”
Xiao Chi looked at the soup, which was so clear you could see the bottom, with two pieces of bitter melon floating on top. Then he looked at the breakfast on the table, which suited his taste perfectly and was distinctly different from what Jiang Lanyi was eating, clearly ordered specifically for him.
Xiao Chi adjusted his posture, looking a bit lazy in the morning light. His crossed long legs swayed under his bathrobe. “Thank you for the concern. My body is in excellent shape.”
Jiang Lanyi gave a tight-lipped smile. “You are welcome. Caring for my landlord is what I should do.”
The atmosphere that had just warmed up seemed to turn cold again. The Alpha’s leg stopped swaying, and his eyes fixed on the bitter melon soup. “Oh.”
So, to Jiang Lanyi, he was just a landlord.
