The Beloved One Is Always Coveted - Chapter 19
Chapter 19
◎My Sister, Tang Fei◎
Tang Xi didn’t react much. She pulled the startled Yu Li out of her embrace, dressed her, buttoned her shirt, and patted her back soothingly, saying, “It’s not an outsider.”
She then walked to the window and opened it. “Jie (Sister), when did you get here?”
The figure didn’t speak, staring at Yu Li who was shrinking in the corner. Tang Xi generously introduced, “This is my girlfriend, Yu Li.”
She didn’t reveal the figure’s name, but Yu Li knew. That was her real older sister, the one her mother had mentioned, the Tang family’s eldest young lady, Tang Fei.
Yu Li shrank further into the corner, her heart beating even faster than before. Tang Xi’s sister kept staring at her. Upon hearing her name, she merely turned it over on her tongue and exhaled it dismissively.
“I need to borrow her for a few days,” Tang Fei said.
The air immediately fell silent.
Tang Fei wasn’t speaking to Yu Li; she was speaking to her younger sister, Tang Xi. It seemed that if Tang Xi agreed, she would jump off the window and take Yu Li away.
Were their relations that good? They could even lend out a girlfriend?
Yu Li huddled in the corner, trying to avoid Tang Fei’s stare. It was too strange. Why was she looking at her so intently, without even trying to hide it?
“Jie, do you fancy my girlfriend?”
Tang Xi’s tone was casual, as if she would genuinely lend Yu Li out if Tang Fei said another word.
Tang Fei didn’t reply. She reluctantly tore her gaze away from the girl in the corner and forced herself to look at her sister, Tang Xi.
“One week, at most.”
“No way. She still has school. Go find someone else.”
Before the words fully left her mouth, Tang Xi slammed the window shut, even pulling the curtains closed.
Good. The person outside couldn’t see inside, and the person inside didn’t have to worry about being watched.
The sense of safety from not being “borrowed” slowly rose, but on the other hand, Yu Li wanted to go home even more. At least at home, she wouldn’t have to worry about that Tang Fei.
And, what had she just done with Tang Xi…?
Yu Li covered her face, frustrated at being fooled by a few words, even voluntarily lifting her shirt…
How shameful.
Her face, which had turned pale because of Tang Fei, immediately flushed crimson, her ears radiating heat.
Tang Xi didn’t pay attention to her awkward emotions. She scooped her up from the floor and placed her on the bed. She picked up the knife from the floor and put it on the cabinet, then turned on the light quite a thoughtful gesture.
Tang Xi usually didn’t bother with such detail. When she killed according to the list Tang Nianyi provided, it only took a few seconds. Bloodstains and bodies weren’t her responsibility; her deputy, Xu Wei, handled that.
Yu Li had been accustomed to the dark for a long time. Her eyes were suddenly overwhelmed and she had to keep them closed for a while before slowly opening them.
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Tang Xi’s enlarged face. Clear, dark eyes twinkled with a smile, offering her two choices: sleep with her or go back to her mother.
Yu Li obviously wanted to go back, but Tang Xi then said the road would be difficult at night, and it wasn’t certain that people weren’t still watching outside.
Her tear tracks hadn’t even dried. Tang Xi gently rubbed her face with her fingertip, simultaneously speaking in a strangely alarming tone about the sister outside.
“She’s not a good person. She’s a maniac. She never fails to get what she wants. Why are you so attractive, huh? I put you in a room, and you still attract her?”
What did that have to do with Yu Li? It was clearly Tang Xi’s fault! If she hadn’t dragged her in here, how would Tang Fei have found her?!
“Do you know what will happen if you leave?”
Tang Xi’s gaze lingered on Yu Li’s lips. Yu Li instinctively bit her lip and shook her head, indicating she didn’t know.
“She’ll grab you. On a dark path, she might just drag you away. Who can save you then? She’ll lock you up, put you in a dark room. Who will find you?”
Tang Xi exaggerated the consequences, saying that all the adults in the Tang family were no good, especially Tang Fei. “You have to be careful if you go back alone. Watch your surroundings. She likes to follow people from behind. She might just find a good opportunity to knock you out and drag you away.”
“You’re so weak. You can’t even resist me. How could you possibly fight her?”
She escalated the threats, saying that Tang Fei would eventually return to Italy, and if she took Yu Li with her, Yu Li would have nowhere to cry in a foreign country.
Yu Li was scared again by her words. After all, her interactions with Tang Fei were minimal, she didn’t know what kind of person Tang Fei was, and her first impression was terrible good people wouldn’t stare through a window and openly ask to borrow someone.
That’s why she was willing to believe Tang Xi’s nonsense, even calling it “avoiding danger.”
She believed her, but she didn’t want to stay with Tang Xi. She still insisted on leaving, but asked Tang Xi for her backpack before she went.
Tang Xi didn’t have it on her. She called her driver, Xu Wei, and after about ten minutes, Xu Wei knocked with the backpack.
Yu Li went to open the door, but Tang Xi stopped her. She stepped past her, opened the door, took the backpack, and closed the door again.
“What are you doing?”
Yu Li was confused, remaining where she was, staring at her backpack, wondering what Tang Xi was planning now.
Strangely enough, after being shocked by Tang Fei, she wasn’t so afraid of Tang Xi anymore. At least Tang Xi hadn’t lent her out.
“Are you really not staying?” Tang Xi held the backpack strap tightly and asked one last time.
Yu Li nodded firmly. Having lived alone for so long, she had tools prepared in her bag: a spring knife, pepper spray, and a stun baton—all basic self-defense items.
If she had to fight back, it would be self-defense, wouldn’t it?
Tang Xi didn’t know what was in her bag. She was just inexplicably annoyed that Yu Li wasn’t listening. Yu Li pulled the backpack strap, ready to leave, but Tang Xi still held on.
They stood in silent confrontation for a long time. Yu Li still refused to back down.
She knew the consequences of sharing a bed; Tang Xi’s “girlfriend usage rights” were never just words.
After a long moment, Tang Xi laughed in anger. She was her girlfriend, yet she wasn’t obedient. Just when she planned to show her a kind face, Yu Li always managed to provoke her. So, she wrapped her arms around Yu Li and the backpack and steered her towards the door.
Yu Li quickly walked out, thinking Tang Xi had finally given in. Before her heart could settle, she was dragged by the wrist.
Her backpack slid loosely to the floor. Yu Li was distracted, reaching to grab it, but before she could bend down, Tang Xi pulled her several meters away.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Didn’t you want to go home? I’m taking you home.”
Tang Xi sneered, not caring if Yu Li could keep up, her whole demeanor radiating a frighteningly low pressure.
“My backpack is still back there.”
Yu Li wanted to go back for her backpack. It was quite a private item; her diary was inside. If someone picked it up and read it, how embarrassing would that be?
“It won’t get lost.” Tang Xi didn’t care about the backpack. She dragged Yu Li to the garage, opened the car door, and tried to shove her into the passenger seat.
This wasn’t the way home. Yu Li held onto the car door, refusing to get in. She was scared again. Tang Xi was not a normal person. How could she use normal reasoning to understand her?
“Be good. Didn’t you want to go home? Get in the car and I’ll take you back.”
Tang Xi spoke coldly, peeling Yu Li’s fingers away one by one.
Yu Li was inside. The car door slammed shut with a bang, and Yu Li couldn’t open it from the inside.
Tang Xi got into the driver’s seat and started the car. Before Yu Li could fasten her seatbelt, the car sped off.
Tang Xi wasn’t completely wicked. After all, she gave Yu Li a moment to fasten her seatbelt.
Then, the car shot out like an arrow from a bow, flying down the empty night road.
Yu Li thought Tang Xi must be extremely angry. She was driving furiously, taking every turn fast, not even slowing down for traffic lights. Yu Li’s face went white with fear in the car, afraid that they would crash and she would be gone at any moment.
Tang Xi glanced sideways at her. Seeing her scared and timid look, she inexplicably felt something and quietly lowered the speed. She also stopped obediently at the traffic lights.
Yu Li clutched her nearly jumping heart and calmed down for a while before the paleness left her face.
Tang Xi kindly lowered both car windows, but, unable to save face, still didn’t speak.
Sometimes, she felt her anger was completely irrational. She had given Yu Li two choices; wasn’t that democracy? Yu Li simply chose the other option. Why should she be angry?
Yet, she felt furious. She had floored the accelerator, and it was only after driving far away, amid the roar of the engine, that she realized something was wrong.
She attributed her emotional volatility to seeing blood earlier, feeling her taut nerves hadn’t relaxed yet.
