- Chapter 21 - He is His Flower (21)
Xie Cheng had a long, long dream.
In the dream, there was a vast sea that stretched beyond the horizon. His body fell into it, and the bone-chilling seawater pressed against him, condensing his surging emotions into a tight ball. It wouldn’t scatter; it wouldn’t fade. It kept colliding against his chest, making him feel bloated and heavy.
He began to gasp unconsciously, gulping down the salty seawater in an attempt to burst himself open. Suddenly, his ears were filled with noise—he heard crying, wailing, chanting, and prayers… Countless voices signifying pain appeared at the bottom of the sea, weaving an airtight net that enveloped everything.
For the first time, Xie Cheng raised his long sword and severed the branches connected to the Tree of Life, letting the “rotten fruit” escape from the sea of suffering the world had imposed upon them.
Sleep peacefully.
Xie Cheng’s palm caressed every pitiful child, and he made a promise to lead them toward a new life. He believed firmly in everything he was doing.

“Xie Cheng, Xie Cheng! I think I found an exit!”
Xie Cheng woke up in a daze. As he sat up, a sharp, tearing pain shot through his forehead. He pressed his hand against the floor, forcing himself to clear his mind and analyze the current situation.
Before his deep sleep, he had been lying on Jiang Yi’s lap. The usually restless guy had seemingly changed his nature, stretching out his legs and remaining perfectly still while thoughtfully massaging the acupoints on Xie Cheng’s head. With a “fully automatic massage pillow,” Xie Cheng had fallen asleep very quickly.
Jiang Yi must have moved him at some point, taking off his own coat and folding it into a small pillow to transfer Xie Cheng to a cleaner spot.
“Xie Cheng, Xie Cheng, Xie Cheng.”
Xie Cheng patted his aching forehead and looked over with bleary eyes. A certain someone had likely realized that his fists alone couldn’t smash through a reinforced wall, so he’d thought of another way using his ability.
Not far away, Jiang Yi was lying on the ground, palms down, pressing his surging flames hard against the floor. The fire didn’t go out; instead, it stubbornly pried open tiny cracks in the floor and spread outward. Soon, the ground was covered in a dense, glowing pattern woven from flames.
“This is the weakest spot,” Jiang Yi said, tapping the floor beneath him. “I bet there’s another level below.”
“What would be down there?” Xie Cheng asked.
Jiang Yi shook his head honestly. “I don’t know. Maybe even scarier zombies are hiding there.”
“Smash it,” Xie Cheng said. He didn’t get up, but shifted his body to sit on Jiang Yi’s discarded coat.
“Really? Smash it?” Jiang Yi looked at Xie Cheng, clenched his fist, and mimicked the motion of hitting the floor.
Xie Cheng lifted his eyelids, his voice barely a whisper and heavy with breath. “Smash it.”
“You got it!”
Jiang Yi rolled up his sleeves, revealing firm forearms. He gave Xie Cheng a brilliant smile before gathering his strength. The next second, he slammed a fist into the area with the most cracks.
BOOM—!
the loud roar lasted for several seconds. The entire lab seemed to shudder. Dust and debris rained down from the ceiling as the cracks on the floor spread, splintered, and shattered at a visible speed.
Xie Cheng didn’t move. He leaned casually against the wall, his eyelids drooping with heavy drowsiness. Dreaming was a draining experience, especially a dream that wasn’t particularly pleasant. His vision lost focus, scattering into countless little points of light until finally, the brightest one moved in front of him.
Without warning, his arm was hoisted up onto someone’s shoulders. He was pulled into a soft chest and wrapped up securely. The brightest point of light gradually revealed a handsome, smiling face that nuzzled against him. Warm breath hit his cheek.
Ah. it was Jiang Yi.
“A hole! I smashed a hole!”
Jiang Yi held the drowsy Xie Cheng close. Taking advantage of the Immortal’s cute, defenseless, and dizzy expression, he peppered Xie Cheng’s face with kisses.
“It’s all saliva,” Xie Cheng grumbled, pushing at him.
Jiang Yi let out a sneaky laugh and leaned down to kiss him again. His kisses were tiny and dense, filled with undisguised passion. They traveled from Xie Cheng’s smooth forehead to his closed eyelids, from his slightly furrowed brow to the bridge of his straight nose.
Finally. he boldly moved to those soft lips that were slightly parted from fatigue and gave them a gentle suck.
“Stop it” Xie Cheng grew irritable from the sticky intimacy. His watery eyes opened slightly.
“It’s today’s practice,” Jiang Yi said, his heart thumping wildly. “We agreed on it.”
Always wanting more hugs and kisses to repay ‘debts,’ and now wanting daily practice… is this man a bit too greedy? Xie Cheng thought sluggishly.
“I just checked the hole. It doesn’t seem dangerous. Want to go down and look?” Jiang Yi had grown clever; he quickly changed the subject.
Xie Cheng remained sluggish.
“My control was perfect. I didn’t let the whole floor collapse,” Jiang Yi added, seeking praise.
Xie Cheng remained sluggish.
“What’s wrong?” Jiang Yi leaned in even closer, carefully observing Xie Cheng’s misty eyes.
“Sleepy.” “Anything else?” “Thirsty. So thirsty.” The sluggish Xie Cheng licked his dry lips.
Jiang Yi panicked. “Wait here! I’ll take you to find water right away.”
“Really thirsty”
Even though he had “drank” so much water in his dream. Xie Cheng frowned irritably. His gaze dropped, fixing on Jiang Yi’s exposed neck, and he bit down.
“Nngh” Jiang Yi let out a soft cry.
Xie Cheng was truly treating Jiang Yi’s ear like a thirst-quenching fruit. He bit without mercy, as if trying to pluck every fruit from the tree to chew and swallow.
“Xie Cheng” Jiang Yi’s ears turned red. “I’ll carry you to find water. Get on my back, quick…”
“Why is there no movement from Lab 2? Is the new food not to 1467’s liking?”
In an even more hidden section of the Rising Sun Base, Dr. Ming questioned the researcher before him with a harsh voice. The researcher was trembling, holding up a pair of glasses with a broken frame.
“I-it’s bad news, Dr. Ming. The ‘cargo’ escaped Lab 2, and 1467 is missing.”
“What did you say?” Dr. Ming’s cold gaze sliced into the researcher’s face. “I told you to keep watch! What are we paying you for?”
“I-I really don’t know!”
“What’s going on?”
The commotion outside disturbed Xu Le, who was resting inside. He walked out wearing loose pajamas, his deer-like eyes—just like in the original plot looking at Dr. Ming.
“It’s nothing.” At the sight of Xu Le, Dr. Ming’s expression softened instantly. He strode over and shielded him with his body. “Don’t worry, nothing will happen.”
Xu Le hesitated. “But I heard 1467 is missing.”
“Rest assured. A modified Level 4 zombie is far more powerful than we can imagine. And the only order I gave 1467 was to protect you at all times.”
Xu Le’s cheeks flushed a soft pink as he hugged Dr. Ming shyly. “A-Cheng, you’re so good to me.”
Dr. Ming’s voice grew even gentler. “In a little while, we’ll proceed with the original plan. We’ll throw Xiao Yu into Lab 2 and use him to make 1467 even stronger.”
At the mention of “Xiao Yu,” Xu Le visibly dazed for a moment. He bit his lower lip, a complex expression crossing his face. “We didn’t want it to be like this, but he is the most suitable…”
“You’re right, Le-le.” Dr. Ming wiped away a stray tear from Xu Le’s eye, placed a hand on his shoulder, and ushered him back into the room.
The lights in the hallway flickered.
At the corner, Jiang Yi cautiously peeked out with Xie Cheng on his back. He whispered, “Xie Cheng, did you hear that? That Level 4 zombie… didn’t we…” Jiang Yi made a chopping motion against his own neck. “How strange.”
“It’s obvious the Level 4 is still alive,” Xie Cheng said flatly.
“It can live without its crystal core? Eh?” Jiang Yi’s eyes lit up. “Xie Cheng! You’re awake! Are you feeling better?”
“Mm.”
Just moments ago, the high-energy Jiang Yi had been wandering around with Xie Cheng on his back. After knocking out a few ability users, he finally found the water storage for the entire underground lab. It was a reservoir about the size of a swimming pool. Upon smelling the moisture, the half-flower, half-human Xie Cheng had dived in and gulped down nearly the entire reservoir’s worth of water.
The speed had left Jiang Yi in awe. Unfortunately, Xie Cheng hadn’t returned to normal after drinking; he had simply gone back to sleep while nipping at Jiang Yi’s ear.
The Immortal is in a very strange state. This was the first thought in Jiang Yi’s mind. He made an immediate decision: forget the secrets of the lab, he had to get back. There were too many unknown dangers here, and he couldn’t protect an unconscious Xie Cheng on his own.
Jiang Yi had been dodging and weaving through the base when he accidentally stumbled into this area. Luckily, Xie Cheng woke up.
Xie Cheng scanned the unfamiliar surroundings. “What happened? How did we get here?”
Jiang Yi: “?”
“And why am I on your” Xie Cheng patted Jiang Yi’s hand and stepped down from his back.
“You don’t remember?” Our kisses. you don’t remember any of them?
Xie Cheng was silent for a moment. “I don’t.”
Jiang Yi turned away, the corners of his mouth drooping.
“Everything was. very strange just now,” Xie Cheng said, flexing his stiff fingers. “It must have been the drug.”
“I knew that drug was bad news!” Jiang Yi stopped acting piteous. He grabbed Xie Cheng’s shoulders and gave him a little shake. “No, we have to get back right now and let Jiang Shui check you over.”
“I’m fine now.” “You said that last time!” “Like you said, I drank a lot of water. The drug has been flushed out of my system.”
A faint smile touched Xie Cheng’s lips. He reached out and pressed his fingers to the corners of Jiang Yi’s mouth, nudging them upward.
