- Chapter 5 - Gigolo, More Like Coming Here to Be a Gigolo
When Lin Wanshuang woke up again, she saw the dim interior of the car, with a faint, crystalline glow visible from the corner of her eye to the left.
“Mm?” Her muddled brain wasn’t quite under control yet, and Lin Wanshuang couldn’t help but let out a soft murmur of confusion, thin as a mosquito’s hum.
“You’re awake? Shall we get out of the car then?” As Ming Jiao spoke, she reached out and turned on the overhead light.
The light wasn’t set to its brightest, just enough for Lin Wanshuang to see. She waited a moment before asking, “How long was I asleep? Why didn’t you wake me up?”
“How would I dare disturb the eldest miss’s sleep? If you fired me, wouldn’t I be finished?” Ming Jiao teased her with a smile. “You slept for about an hour. It’s about time for lunch anyway. Should we find a place to eat, or are you going home first?”
Lin Wanshuang rubbed her aching neck, frowning slightly with a hint of post-nap irritability. “Home.”
Ming Jiao nodded, reached for her backpack from the back seat, and eagerly pushed the door open to get out. It wasn’t until she breathed in the damp, cool air of the underground parking garage that she finally felt a sense of relief.
Even though her gland was withered and practically useless, staying in a confined space with an Omega for a long time was never particularly comfortable.
Lin Wanshuang led Ming Jiao into a private elevator, traveling smoothly to the top floor. When the doors opened, they were greeted by a neatly organized shoe rack. Couplets were pasted on both sides of the door, and there was even a hook on the wall labeled “Leave delivery here,” giving the place a very lived-in atmosphere.
Lin Wanshuang changed her shoes, pressed her thumb against the fingerprint scanner to open the door, and said as she walked inside, “You’ll be living here with me from now on. I’ll record your fingerprint in a bit.”
Ming Jiao, who was in the middle of changing her shoes, was caught off guard. “I… live with you?”
Lin Wanshuang turned back to look at her. “Of course. You are my fiancée and my personal bodyguard. If you don’t live with me, did you plan on living alone?”
“You are supposed to protect me, after all.”
Ming Jiao took a deep breath, about to decline the “cohabitation” arrangement, when she heard Lin Wanshuang continue: “Besides, living together allows me to better observe the reactions of your gland.”
“Don’t forget, you’re also my little lab rat~”
Since it involved her medical treatment, Ming Jiao didn’t say anything more and obediently followed Lin Wanshuang into the house.
The apartment was massive, a duplex penthouse of over four hundred square meters. The first floor contained the living room, dining room, kitchen, and various leisure areas, while the second floor was Lin Wanshuang’s private living space, including her bedroom and walk-in closet.
As soon as they entered, Lin Wanshuang led Ming Jiao to the dining table, which was set with a steaming hot lunch that looked like it had just been prepared.
“Great timing, the housekeeper must have left less than ten minutes ago.” Lin Wanshuang pulled out a chair and sat down, gesturing for Ming Jiao to do the same. “Sit down and try her cooking.”
The meal was a delight for both. The housekeeper’s skills were indeed excellent, making this perhaps the most comfortable meal Ming Jiao had eaten since arriving in Jincheng.
After eating, Lin Wanshuang went upstairs to grab some things. Seeing the leftovers on the table, Ming Jiao silently began to clear up. By the time Lin Wanshuang came back down, the dining room and kitchen had been cleaned spotlessly.
“Oh, you already cleaned up? You could have left it for the housekeeper.”
“It was no trouble,” Ming Jiao replied, drying her hands as she walked out.
Looking at Ming Jiao’s figure, the slight apprehension Lin Wanshuang had felt about living together suddenly eased significantly. Living with this person didn’t seem so hard to accept after all.
The two sat down in the living room, and Lin Wanshuang handed over the contract she had drafted over the past few days. “Take a look. If there are no issues, sign it.”
It was a fairly standard employment contract, though Lin Wanshuang had added her own specific conditions. Ming Jiao didn’t have any objections to the general terms, but she was surprised when she saw the compensation column.
“Twenty thousand a month, plus bonuses? You really are generous, Eldest Miss,” Ming Jiao said with a curl of her lips. “The way I see it, I don’t look like a lab rat. I look more like a gigolo (little white face).”
Having eaten her fill, Lin Wanshuang’s mind was much sharper than before. She wasn’t embarrassed by Ming Jiao’s teasing. Instead, she stepped forward, tilted Ming Jiao’s chin up, and studied her face seriously.
“Well,” Lin Wanshuang said, “if you’re willing to be a gigolo with a face like that, I’ll add another zero to your monthly salary.”
