- Chapter 3 - Fiancée, They have an alias better known to the general public. Impotent Alphas.
“Pfft!” Ming Jiao, who was currently drinking water, couldn’t hold it back, the hot water she had just taken into her mouth sprayed right out.
Lin Wanshuang frowned, looking at her with a hint of disdain. She reluctantly pulled out a tissue from nearby and handed it over, even muttering under her breath, “Making such a fuss over nothing.”
While wiping the water away, Ming Jiao looked at Lin Wanshuang with total confusion: Eldest Miss, what exactly are you trying to do?
Lin Wanshuang lifted her chin slightly, looking as though she had everything under control: Don’t worry about it, I have my own rhythm.
Zuo Xiangjun saw the little interaction between the two clearly. Seeing the Alpha’s look of utter bewilderment, she felt even more frustrated with her daughter’s behavior.
“Lin Wanshuang, do you think your mother and I really can’t control you anymore?!”
Suddenly announcing a marriage was one thing, as long as her daughter was in love, they as mothers wouldn’t oppose it. But it was obvious that the Alpha didn’t even know about this!
As she spoke, Zuo Xiangjun was about to step forward to discipline Lin Wanshuang. Lin Chenqing quickly stepped in to restrain her wife, comforting her while scolding their daughter. “Shuangshuang, look at how you’ve angered your mother by blurting that out.”
Lin Chenqing then looked at Ming Jiao with some embarrassment. “Miss Ming, please excuse her. This child has been spoiled by her mother and me since she was young. She meant no offense.”
“Oh, goodness! Can you guys just let me finish!” Lin Wanshuang ducked toward Ming Jiao’s side to put distance between herself and her mother. “What I mean is a fake marriage with Ming Jiao!”
“That Sang Xuerui is like a piece of dog skin plaster. I can’t shake her off. If I don’t get married, she won’t give up!”
Hearing this, Lin Chenqing’s expression turned serious. “Shuangshuang, if that is your concern, I promise you that I will handle it properly. The Sang family isn’t someone we can’t afford to offend. I will never agree to sacrificing your happiness to solve this.”
Lin Wanshuang sighed inwardly. Her mother was right, if the Sang family only wanted a marriage alliance for business synergy, it would be easy to solve.
But the Sang family’s target wasn’t the Shulin Group, it was Lin Wanshuang herself, or rather, the research results she held from her mentor. Results that were enough to shock all Alphas and Omegas alike.
Zuo Xiangjun knew her child too well. Seeing Lin Wanshuang’s hesitant expression, she knew her daughter was hiding something. Taking a deep breath to suppress her anger, she looked at Lin Wanshuang sternly. “Shuangshuang, marriage is a very serious topic. Your words just now respected neither yourself nor Miss Ming. You need to apologize to Miss Ming.”
Ming Jiao froze for a moment. Hearing Lin Wanshuang’s explanation, she had actually guessed the girl’s true motive.
Lin Wanshuang had said before that she didn’t just want Ming Jiao to be her “guinea pig”; she likely wanted her as a shield, a marriage partner who could fundamentally solve her problems.
She and Lin Wanshuang would each get what they needed; there was no issue of respect. If Lin Wanshuang could cure her illness, let alone marriage, Ming Jiao wouldn’t even mind if Lin Wanshuang wanted to be her grandmother.
Just as Ming Jiao was about to explain, Lin Wanshuang beat her to it. She pursed her lips awkwardly and said, “I’m sorry, Miss Ming. I was too impulsive just now.”
“…It’s fine.”
The hospital room fell into a terrifying silence. No one spoke for a while.
After a long pause, Lin Wanshuang lowered her eyes, still unwilling to give up on her plan. Her voice was much calmer now. “Mother, I still stand by my view. I want to solve this fundamentally. I’ll marry Ming Jiao on the surface, but in reality, I’ll hire her as my personal bodyguard. This is the best solution I can think of right now.”
Zuo Xiangjun’s eyes widened in fury. “You’re still talking about this?!”
Before Zuo Xiangjun could continue, a commotion broke out outside the room.
Shortly after, a sharp-looking woman pushed the door open and walked in. It was Lin Chenqing’s secretary, Secretary Chen. “Chairwoman, Miss Sang has arrived. Along with her are people from the Trial Committee. They want to see the young lady.”
The Trial Committee, full name: The AO Trial Committee, primarily handled violent incidents between Alphas and Omegas. Since Alphas were physically much stronger than Omegas and Betas, Alphas frequently initiated violent incidents, leaving ordinary government agencies overwhelmed. Thus, the Tribunals were established, and the AO Trial Committee was a department under their management, staffed entirely by Alphas and Omegas.
Last night, Ming Jiao had only had time to call the police, which is why the Committee hadn’t appeared yet. It was normal for them to send investigators now.
Lin Chenqing frowned slightly. “Who came from the Committee?”
Secretary: “Director Ding.”
“My daughter was frightened last night and hasn’t recovered yet. Find a place to settle them. I’ll be over shortly,” Lin Chenqing instructed. Her daughter was the victim, she wasn’t going to let the Sang family see her just because they wanted to.
“Mother, don’t bother. Just let them in.” Lin Wanshuang reached out to straighten the chair by Ming Jiao’s bed and sat down gracefully.
“Shuangshuang…” Lin Chenqing began with a frown.
Lin Wanshuang looked directly at Secretary Chen. “Secretary Chen, let them in.”
Secretary Chen looked at the Eldest Miss, then at the two Chairwomen, and then turned to go invite the guests in.
Then, Ming Jiao watched as four women strode boldly into the room. One was the captain of the Alpha bodyguards from last night. The young woman in front of her must be the Sang Xuerui that Lin Wanshuang had mentioned.
As for the other two, they were easy to identify, they wore the pitch-black uniforms of the Committee, with the embroidered Committee emblem on the left chest, looking meticulous and very serious.
Neither Lin Chenqing nor Zuo Xiangjun stood up. Zuo Xiangjun didn’t even spare the four a glance, focusing instead on peeling an apple for her daughter.
“Director Ding, what wind has blown you here?” Lin Chenqing said, gesturing for them to take a seat on the sofa.
Director Ding glanced subtly at Sang Xuerui next to her and smiled politely at Lin Chenqing. “Chairman Lin, it’s been a long time. I’m here today because we received a report. Miss Sang said her fiancée was attacked by an Alpha last night. As you know, the city takes Alpha attacks on Omegas very seriously, so I brought my people to investigate.”
At that moment, Lin Chenqing finally let her gaze fall on Sang Xuerui. “May I ask who Miss Sang’s fiancée is?”
Sang Xuerui wasn’t bad-looking, and right now her smile made her look gentle and steady. “Auntie Lin, Wanshuang and I are mutually in love. Although we haven’t officially gotten engaged, I’ve long considered her my fiancée. Knowing she was in trouble, I immediately contacted Director Ding to investigate thoroughly. I had to use the title of ‘fiancée’ for the sake of the report; I hope you understand.”
“Sang Xuerui, it seems your people didn’t tell you the truth,” Lin Wanshuang crossed her arms and spoke mockingly. “I told them last night to tell you to go home and piss in a mirror to look at yourself. Did you not do it?”
“Mutual love requires ‘love,’ doesn’t it? Right now, I only have one feeling for you, get as far away as possible.”
“What kind of thing are you to be engaged to me? Sticking to me like dog skin plaster… can’t the Sang family leash their own dog?”
“Lin Wanshuang!” Sang Xuerui was stung into a rage. Her face turned a deep red, as if she had been slapped hard. Her steady, dignified facade was completely torn away.
“Miss Sang, watch your attitude. My daughter is still indisposed,” Zuo Xiangjun spoke lightly, tossing the fruit knife gently onto the table.
Jincheng was Lin family territory. Sang Xuerui didn’t dare be reckless anymore and could only swallow her anger with a dark expression.
Seeing this, Director Ding had new thoughts. She had originally planned to use the Sang family’s influence to secure a good position for herself in the future. Now, it seemed this eldest miss of the Sang family was quite useless.
“Both ladies are young; perhaps there is a misunderstanding. I’m mainly here to investigate last night’s events. The bodyguard with Miss Sang already stated on the way here that they were attacked by an Alpha who even tried to take Miss Lin away. Does Miss Lin have any clues regarding this?”
Hearing this, Lin Wanshuang couldn’t help but roll her eyes. “Sang Xuerui, I thought you were incompetent at everything, but it seems your ability to shift the blame is actually quite good.”
Ming Jiao, who had been acting like a ghost the whole time, couldn’t help but laugh out of pure annoyance. “Director Ding, I am that Alpha you said ‘tried to take Miss Lin away.’ But shouldn’t you check the police records first? See if it was that bodyguard who called the police, or if it was me.”
Director Ding froze, turning to look at Sang Xuerui in shock. This important detail, the Sang heiress hadn’t told her!
Damn it, the other party already had a police record. What was the point of her “investigation”? Was she just bored?!
But because she had already set herself up with her earlier words about a “thorough investigation,” if she didn’t give the Lin family an explanation today, she believed she’d be suspended tomorrow just for “stepping into the office with her left foot first.”
With a look of having been played, Director Ding stood up abruptly and looked at Lin Chenqing and Zuo Xiangjun seriously. “I am deeply sorry. I didn’t investigate clearly today. I was simply overwhelmed with concern for Miss Lin and didn’t sync up with the police’s clues. Rest assured, I will give you a satisfactory answer.”
As she babbled words Lin Wanshuang didn’t care about, Lin Wanshuang stared fixedly at Sang Xuerui. She reached out, grabbed Ming Jiao’s hand, and said with a smile: “Sang Xuerui, you probably don’t know, but there is a fiancée of mine in this room. It’s not you, it’s her.”
“Allow me to introduce everyone: Ming Jiao, my fiancée.”
Sang Xuerui’s eyes widened instinctively. She stared deathly at Ming Jiao on the hospital bed, speaking in disbelief: “Your surname is Ming?!”
“Miss Sang, while the ‘Ming’ surname isn’t common in East China, I recall it’s a major surname in North China. The Sang family’s roots are also in the North; you should have met many people named Ming. Why the big fuss?” Lin Chenqing spoke with a smile, intentionally or unintentionally leading their thoughts in a certain direction.
Ming Jiao glanced at Lin Chenqing silently, lowering her eyes to hide her complicated emotions. Her background records had been wiped very clean; she believed that even the influential Lin Chenqing in Jincheng couldn’t find anything. But the other woman was deliberately leading Sang Xuerui to think that way… a lucky guess.
Compared to Sang Xuerui’s loss of composure, Director Ding looked even more serious now. If she could still navigate around the Lin family, the “Ming” family from North China was something beyond her reach.
“Chairman Lin, I have other matters to attend to, so I’ll take my leave. I will personally deliver the follow-up investigation results to you. Excuse me.” With that, Director Ding hurriedly left with her subordinates.
As for Sang Xuerui, she was in a daze after learning Ming Jiao’s name and was eventually supported and led away by her bodyguards.
Watching the room return to silence, Zuo Xiangjun shook her head in disappointment. “So much for a delayed-differentiation Alpha. Even with a B-rank, she’s still useless. To think she dared to have people intercept Shuangshuang and then try to frame Ming Jiao.”
Lin Chenqing: “Don’t worry. I will personally speak with the Sang family. I won’t let this matter drop.”
Lin Wanshuang didn’t care about what her mother was saying. Instead, she leaned toward Ming Jiao and whispered, “So, the plan I just mentioned, do you agree? I’ll help treat your illness, and you’ll be my guinea pig, my shield, and my bodyguard. I’ll pay you a salary, definitely higher than your previous job.”
The two were very close. Ming Jiao felt that in Miss Lin’s world, there truly was no such thing as “Alpha-Omega safety distance.”
Ming Jiao reached out and pressed against Lin Wanshuang’s shoulder to push her back slightly. “Miss Lin, you’re too close.”
Lin Wanshuang didn’t mind and said nonchalantly, “What does it matter? You’re an E-rank Alpha anyway. You can’t smell my pheromones, and I can’t smell yours. Our primary genders are the same, it couldn’t be safer for us to be together.”
Besides, what could an E-rank Alpha even do? After all, they have an alias better known to the general public: Impotent Alphas.
Ming Jiao: “…”
