The Arrogant Young Lady's Obsessive Son-in-Law A - Chapter 1
A somewhat hasty plan formed in her mind.
The city of Jincheng had been plagued by persistent rain for three days, leaving its residents without a glimpse of sunlight even during the day.
Around seven in the evening, as dusk settled, the roads in the northern suburbs of Jincheng were nearly deserted of vehicles and pedestrians.
Before long, a black figure appeared at a street corner, clad in a black hoodie and dark gray trousers. The hood was pulled low, completely shielding her head except for a few stray, dazzling strands of hair that poked out into the damp air.
Moving with haste, the figure’s black boots splashed heavily through the uneven puddles on the road. In an instant, she vanished around the corner.
The woman wound her way through a labyrinth of small alleys, following a pre-memorized route through various intersections before turning at a dilapidated single story house to reach her destination.
The building was decrepit, its walls were stained with grime and moss from years of rain, and thick dust clung to the window frames, trailing streaks of wastewater down the walls.
She seemed indifferent to the filth, reaching out to knock on the iron door.
Three long knocks and one short, the agreed upon signal.
The door cracked open slightly, revealing a yellowish, bloodshot eye. A raspy voice asked, “Who are you looking for?”
“I’m looking for Auntie Yu San.” The woman pulled back her hood, revealing an exquisite, enchanting face that appeared somewhat pale and sickly.
The person inside didn’t respond but silently pulled the door open.
Seeing this, Ming Jiao instinctively looked back to check her surroundings before slipping inside and locking the door behind her. The movement was fluid and practiced, and the alley outside returned to a dead silence.
Once inside, Ming Jiao scanned the interior while reaching up to press against her nape, which felt feverish even through the scent-blocking patch.
Her nose twitched slightly. She couldn’t detect any pheromones in the air, it seemed the rumors were true. Auntie Yu San was just a Beta.
Yu San was thin and small, with sallow skin and murky, protruding eyes laced with red. She looked as though she were suffering from a terminal illness.
She was a drug dealer introduced by Ming Jiao’s friend, specializing in the sale of controlled substances for Alphas and Omegas in the Jincheng black market. Ming Jiao had come specifically to collect a shipment.
She had been in Jincheng for over three months and had long since exhausted the medicine she brought with her. With a grueling rut period approaching in a few days, Ming Jiao needed specialized agents that were difficult to find on the open market to help her get through it.
While Ming Jiao inspected the room, Yu San was also sizing up her client.
The woman’s aura was exceptionally clean, causing no discomfort to Yu San as a Beta.
Judging by the grade of the drugs she was purchasing, this person should be a high-level Alpha. Yet, unlike other Alphas who let their pheromones run wild, she kept hers perfectly restrained.
As a Beta, a gender often overlooked in the ABO hierarchy. Yu San had a quite favorable first impression of this employer.
Ming Jiao spoke abruptly: “I want the goods.”
The mutual scrutiny had lasted only a few breaths.
Yu San smiled, her expression full of shrewdness. “Don’t worry, boss. The goods will definitely satisfy you. However, my rule is cash on delivery. Did you bring enough?”
Ming Jiao produced a card. “There are three million inside. That is the agreed reward.”
Yu San nodded with satisfaction, grinning to reveal sparse, yellowing teeth. “Please wait a moment, I’ll go get the medicine.”
She turned toward the inner room. Ming Jiao stood alone in the center of the house. The quiet atmosphere made the discomfort at the nape of her neck more pronounced. Her chest heaved as she took several deep breaths, barely managing to suppress the sensation.
A moment later, Yu San emerged holding a small metal box. “Boss, here is what you asked for.”
Ming Jiao didn’t waste time with small talk. “Open it. I need to verify the goods first.”
Yu San complied, pressing a hidden latch on the box. The lid popped open, and a mist of cold condensation immediately swirled into the air, bringing a chilling scent to Ming Jiao’s nose.
Inside the box lay a syringe engraved with a symbol Ming Jiao knew well. This mark was impossible to forge, it proved the injection indeed came from the Military Department.
“Look closely, boss. A-grade Mimetic Pheromones from the Military Research Institute. Honest prices and genuine goods.” Yu San quickly snapped the box shut. “This is what you wanted, right?”
With the transaction complete, Ming Jiao took the box and left the house immediately.
After she departed, Yu San stood by the window, clutching the card and watching the figure disappear into the night.
She muttered to herself, “Oddities happen every year, but to have more than one person rushing to buy this stuff…”
A-grade Mimetic Pheromones were specialized drugs for high-level Alphas in the military. They were primarily used to soothe the ruts of these Alphas but were highly addictive with strong side effects, used only in emergencies.
Generally, high-level Alphas in the military had fixed Omega partners. During their rut, they would naturally prefer the soft, fragrant presence of a partner over chemical suppression.
Consequently, the use of mimetic pheromones was rare, and demand was low. Encountering two buyers in a single day was an extraordinary coincidence.
However, that wasn’t for Yu San to worry about. The deal was done. In this business, the worst trait one could have was misplaced curiosity.
Ming Jiao, clutching the metal box in her pocket, vanished into the depths of the alleys. Her dark hoodie hid her striking platinum-blonde short hair, allowing her to blend into the darkness.
But as time passed, the discomfort at the back of her neck intensified. It felt as if a fire had been lit inside her body, threatening to burn her dry.
Fine beads of sweat formed on her forehead. After turning a corner, Ming Jiao couldn’t take it anymore. She staggered and leaned against a moss-covered wall for support.
“Hah… hah…”
Ming Jiao panted heavily, her skin flushing with an indescribable crimson hue. She reached back to her neck and tore off the scent-blocking patch.
Usually, the higher an Alpha’s rank, the more severe their rut symptoms and the more aggressive their pheromones.
However, Ming Jiao’s physical reaction didn’t match the pheromones she emitted. Her symptoms suggested a high-level Alpha, but her scent was faint and lacked any sense of aggression.
A breeze swept through the alley, carrying the earthy smell of post-rain soil. Ming Jiao closed her eyes and sniffed deeply, hoping to find a different scent, her own pheromone: Mint.
After a moment of focused breathing, her keen senses finally caught a hint of refreshing coolness amidst the earthy smell.
It was mint.
Ming Jiao’s heart, which had been in her throat, finally settled back into her chest. The tension left her body, and she slumped down at the base of the wall.
Despite the heat in her body, Ming Jiao’s hands trembled as she pulled out the metal box and the syringe. She pressed the needle against the gland at her nape and injected the mimetic pheromones.
The fire within her was met with a cooling rain. The heat was suppressed instantly, and she could feel the cool sensation flowing through her brain and body.
This wasn’t Ming Jiao’s first time using mimetic pheromones. She knew the side effects. She needed to leave immediately and find a safe place.
Supporting herself against the wall, she stood up, ignoring the dirt on her back. She shook her head forcefully to clear her mind, identified her direction, and continued forward.
Having just taken the drug, Ming Jiao felt relatively stable, and her pace quickened. But as she rounded the final corner, her sharp hearing caught an unusual sound.
“How do you plan to escape today, being just an Omega?”
Ming Jiao froze. her indifferent eyes reflexively turned toward the source of the voice.
Two seconds later, she took a deep breath. While dialing the police on her phone, she ran toward the sound.
It was clear an Omega was being cornered in the alley. As a former cadet who had undergone systematic training in a military academy, she could not simply stand by and watch.
Deep in the alley, four or five tall Alphas had a woman trapped in a semi-circle.
“Miss Lin, our eldest miss has made her intentions clear. She simply wants to invite you over to discuss your wedding. She means you no harm, so please do not make this difficult for us.” The Alpha in the lead spoke with formal titles, but his tone held no respect.
Another Alpha standing nearby added, “Captain, we’re running out of time. She’s just an Omega.” The tone was hostile, suggesting they were ready to kidnap her.
The woman trapped by the Alphas couldn’t be seen clearly, but her mocking voice held no trace of fear.
“Sang Xuerui should at least look at herself in the mirror before she talks. Making things up out of thin air, is your Sang family always this good at daydreaming?”
The Alphas exchanged looks. The leader’s face turned grim. “Miss Lin, forgive us.”
As he spoke, three Alphas lunged forward. The Omega grit her teeth, her expression turning cold. She held her breath and quickly smashed a vial of liquid onto the ground.
The glass shattered, and the chemical agent inside instantly erupted into a thick white smoke that engulfed the alley.
“Watch out, it might be poisonous!”
The pungent odor choked the Alphas, their lungs filling with a nasty chemical scent.
Before coming here, they had researched Miss Lin. She was a senior researcher at the GBRI (Glandular Biological Research Institute), and they knew she possessed many concoctions designed to handle Alphas.
Lin Wanshuang covered her nose and mouth. Only she knew that these weren’t specialized anti-Alpha toxins, but merely anesthetic aerosols, enough to make even high-level Alphas dizzy for a moment.
That moment should have been enough for her to run out of the alley toward a monitored area.
But things did not go as smoothly as she hoped. These Alphas had undergone drug resistance training. The aerosol’s effect on them was minimal.
After a few seconds of disorientation, they regained their senses. As Lin Wanshuang’s thin figure darted through the white mist, the lead Alpha chased her down. Just as he was about to grab her shoulder, a heavy object struck his hand away.
“Sss!” The pain made him whip his head around. “Who’s there?!”
Everyone turned. As the mist cleared, a figure charged toward them at high speed.
The Alphas instinctively took defensive stances, but to their surprise, the figure wasn’t aiming for them.
Ming Jiao’s surprise attack worked. Taking advantage of their confusion, she grabbed the trapped Omega and pulled her in the opposite direction.
“Don’t be afraid. I’ve called the police. We just need to stall for time.”
Lin Wanshuang was dazed as she was dragged toward the exit. Behind them, the Alphas finally reacted, cursing loudly. “Damn it! We’ve been played! Chase them!”
A thrilling chase began in the dim alley.
But an Omega and an Alpha currently suffering from drug side effects were no match for professional bodyguards.
Before long, Ming Jiao felt a sharp, agonizing pain in her left shoulder. Her expression changed drastically. She used one hand to shove the seemingly terrified Omega forward. “Run!”
She turned to face the Alpha who had caught up, her fist cutting through the air to strike at the person’s face.
But the opponent was faster. He caught her fist in his palm. Not deterred, Ming Jiao delivered a knee strike to the Alpha’s stomach, forcing him back several steps.
“Captain!” The other Alphas rushed forward to help.
Ming Jiao endured the pain in her shoulder, but her vision began to blur. The gland at her nape felt like it was on fire again.
“Old Three, go after Lin! We’ll handle this brat!”
“Yes!”
Ming Jiao heard them. She wanted to stop them, but her strength was failing. She could only watch as one of them bypassed her to chase the Omega.
She was distracted for only a second, but it was enough. An Alpha’s fist was already flying toward her face, and she had no way to dodge.
In the next moment, Ming Jiao’s clenched fist relaxed. Everything went black, and she collapsed heavily into a puddle.
Seeing the person suddenly faint, the Alphas stood frozen in place, looking at each other as if they had been tricked.
“Uh… Captain, this…”
“Since when did you learn how to knock someone out from a distance?”
“…Shut up.”
When Lin Wanshuang returned with the police, this was the scene she found: her rescuer lying pitifully on the ground, clothes soaked and stained by the dirty water.
The police quickly surrounded and apprehended the Alphas, who had no time to escape.
Amidst the chaos, Lin Wanshuang walked over to Ming Jiao. Looking down at the unconscious woman, she finally saw her face, it was a face of striking impact.
Lin Wanshuang was beautiful herself and usually immune to good looks, but she couldn’t help but be stunned.
If Lin Wanshuang’s beauty was as soft as a clear moon, then Ming Jiao’s was as intense as a blazing sun.
As the paramedics loaded Ming Jiao onto a stretcher, Lin Wanshuang looked down at the empty syringe she had picked up from a corner earlier.
To anyone else, it might look like a standard inhibitor. But by coincidence, Lin Wanshuang had an identical, unused syringe in her own pocket.
It seemed this Alpha, who didn’t emit a single drop of pheromone, had just injected this A-grade Mimetic Pheromone.
Lin Wanshuang reached this conclusion effortlessly.
And because of this, a somewhat hasty plan began to form in her mind.
