- Episode 4 - To the Unseen World (With Family Perspective)
“Hey, do you know any way to get above ground?”
“There’s no such thing here.”
“I see…”
I thought there might be some clues here, but I’m back to square one.
Well, what should I do now?
“What’s this? You want to go outside?”
“Yeah, I want to leave the country and travel the world. But there’s no way up, right?”
Rock climbing would be too difficult, so I’ll have to think of another way.
“Hmm… If you’re that desperate, I suppose I could take you up there.”
“Really?! Oh god, oh Buddha, oh Ark, please take me to the top of the cliff!”
At Ark’s confident tone, I immediately prostrated myself and bowed deeply.
“W-who told you to go that far, you fool?!”
“Huh?”
“Hmph, if you’re going to beg like that, I’ll take you. Now hurry up and get on!”
When I looked up at his flustered voice, Ark had crouched down to make it easier to mount. Even so, his body was so large that I ended up pulling on a lot of fur while climbing onto his back.
“Does it hurt?”
“Don’t worry about it. A mere human pulling on my fur won’t hurt or tickle. Hurry up.”
“Okay!”
I grabbed fistfuls of fur and scrambled onto his back.
“Alright, we’re off. Hold on tight or I’ll shake you off!”
“Got it. Whoa?!”
I wrapped Ark’s fur around my hands and held on tight. The speed at which Ark started running was incredible. The scenery blurred past in an instant.
This speed was beyond comparison with any car.
Ark dashed straight toward the cliff after bursting out of the ruins, scaling the nearly vertical rock face without hesitation.
“Ark, you’re amazing!!”
“I was once feared as a calamity. Don’t be so easily impressed by something like this.”
“Wow, you sound really strong.”
“The world is nothing more than a plaything to me.”
As we spoke, we broke through the poisonous mist, and the end of the cliff came into view. With one final kick off the rock face, we finally soared out of the Valley of the Abyss.
“It’s beautiful…”
The sun poured over the land, painting the world in vivid colors.
In my past life, the only glimpse of the outside world I had was through the hospital window. But now, in this life, I can see such breathtaking beauty it’s nothing short of moving.
I want to see even more of this world.
I truly feel that.
Looking back, the Valley of the Abyss, shrouded in purple poisonous mist, sprawled out like hell on earth.
I never noticed before my execution, but that place really was terrifying…
“So, what do you plan to do now? You said you wanted to leave the country, right?”
Ark landed on the ground and turned to ask me.
“Hmm, what should I do?”
“Hey, don’t tell me you hadn’t thought that far ahead? Are you an idiot?”
“Well, I was just executed, you know? I didn’t have time to plan out the details.”
“What?! What do you mean?”
Ark whipped his head around in shock.
“Huh? Didn’t I mention it? That valley is used for executions by the country that rules this area. I was just falsely accused and executed.”
“…You’re lucky to be alive.”
Ark’s voice dropped, and his tail drooped limply.
Maybe I made him worry.
“Well, thanks to my Super Health skill, I was unharmed even after being bitten by you, falling off a cliff, and breathing in poisonous mist. So no worries!”
I replied as cheerfully as possible. Of course, I kept my past life a secret; no telling if he’d even believe me.
“T-that was just me holding back, you insolent brat!!”
“I know. And because of that, I got to meet you, Ark. I don’t mind at all. Thanks for worrying about me.”
I ruffled Ark’s fur gratefully as he protested.
His fur was silky smooth absolutely divine.
“I wasn’t worried!! More importantly, what are you actually going to do now?”
“I have no attachment left to the family—no, my former family who falsely accused and executed me. So, I want to travel the world. But I need money for that… Hmm, maybe I should gather medicinal herbs?”
“Hmph, humans are so inconvenient, can’t do anything without money.”
I had nothing but the clothes on my back. No valuables to sell.
But I’ve been making medicine all this time, so I have a little confidence in that. Still, even for that, I’d need money to buy ingredients.
Guess I’ll have to start by gathering herbs or becoming an adventurer.
Speaking of adventurers, they often appeared in the stories I read while bedridden in the hospital. Their freedom to explore the world was something I admired.
Might as well become one myself!!
Maybe I’ll get the cliché treatment being picked on by other adventurers or befriending someone around my age.
I’m already getting excited just thinking about it.
“Alright, let’s go search for herbs in that forest!”
I jumped off Ark’s back and pointed ahead, where a sprawling forest awaited.
“Just so you know, there are poisonous plants and monsters around here. Be careful.”
“You’re worried about me?”
“I’m not worried!! I just don’t want my observation subject dying on me!!”
“Sure, sure. Well, here I go!!”
I dashed toward the forest. Ark followed close behind.
He might not be the most honest, but I have a feeling traveling with this partner will be fun.

In a certain room of a certain house.
“I was nervous when the assassination got exposed, but I never thought they’d actually go through with the execution.”
“Fufu, ‘that useless one’ finally proved useful for once.”
“Good thing we kept that trash around. By offering them up ourselves, we avoided being implicated.”
“That was a close call.”
“Ahh, what a relief!! Seeing that incompetent fool was torture.”
“Oh dear, sorry for putting you through that.”
“Indeed. Well then, shall we throw a celebration party?”
“That sounds wonderful!”
“Really? I can’t wait~!”
