The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 63
This time, the pain was real so intense that Lin Yulan’s physiological tears spilled uncontrollably, impossible to hold back, as if she were crying. Large teardrops fell incessantly.
But Jiang Xue acted as though she hadn’t noticed. After applying the medicine, she simply packed up the first aid kit and prepared to leave.
Seeing this, Lin Yulan ignored the pain in her face and immediately stood up to block her path.
Jiang Xue looked up at her, taking in Lin Yulan’s visibly swelling face. Any anger she felt dissipated, leaving only helplessness. “Please move aside, Miss Lin. I need to leave.”
“You’re leaving?”
“What else?”
“But my face still hurts.”
“If it still hurts, Miss Lin can find someone more qualified. I’m just a teacher, not a lifesaver.”
Lin Yulan cautiously reached out, gently grasping Jiang Xue’s hand and giving it a small shake. “Teacher Jiang, since you’ve already helped this much, why not see it through? Have some pity on this injured patient!”
Jiang Xue shook her hand off and glared at her sharply. “You call this an injury?”
Lin Yulan stepped closer, bringing her swollen face right up to Jiang Xue’s and deliberately pointing at the affected area. “An injury to the face is still an injury! Teacher Jiang, you can’t discriminate against it just because it’s a face!”
Jiang Xue genuinely wanted to slap her. For some reason, the sight of Lin Yulan like this made her temper flare uncontrollably.
↑
But she couldn’t hit her, and she couldn’t out-argue her either. In the end, it seemed she was the only one left suffering.
“Teacher Jiang, won’t you take pity on this injured patient before you?”
“If I pity you, who’s going to pity me?”
Lin Yulan had intended to respond playfully, but her face hurt too much even the slightest movement threatened to bring tears. She could only answer seriously, “Of course, Teacher Jiang pities me first, and then I’ll pity Teacher Jiang!”
Jiang Xue thought she was being utterly unreasonable. Rolling her eyes, she pushed Lin Yulan aside with force and strode toward the door.
Lin Yulan immediately dashed after her, blocking the door before Jiang Xue could open it. “Are you heading back to school later?”
Jiang Xue hadn’t expected this question. She paused, eyeing Lin Yulan with slight confusion.
Lin Yulan continued, “Xiaoxue, don’t go for that Melbourne project, okay? I can help you secure any other project you want just not this one, alright?”
Did Lin Yulan know the project was funded by Xia Yin?
“Why?” Jiang Xue wasn’t sure how much Lin Yulan knew, so she probed cautiously. “As I’ve said before, this is my personal work. Even my parents can’t interfere.”
Lin Yulan wasn’t certain whether Jiang Xue knew about Xia Yin’s involvement in the Melbourne project most importantly, that Xia Yin would be accompanying the team throughout. She worried that bringing it up without evidence might only provoke Jiang Xue’s displeasure.
But she truly didn’t want Jiang Xue to go.
After a long hesitation, Lin Yulan finally said, “Xia Yin is the primary investor for this Melbourne exchange project.”
“So?”
Jiang Xue’s reaction was indifferent, which unsettled Lin Yulan. Still, she maintained her composure. “She’ll be traveling with your team the entire time.”
“So?” Jiang Xue repeated the same two words.
“So even like this, you don’t care and still insist on going?”
Just as Jiang Xue had said earlier, this was her job, and no one had the right to interfere. If she were to stop her, it would, to some extent, be disrespecting Jiang Xue’s personal choice.
But the thought of Xia Yin going along made Lin Yulan’s heart churn with discomfort.
“So?” Jiang Xue asked again, “What does Little President Lin want to say?”
If I say something, will you actually consider staying?
Lin Yulan hesitated for a long time, unable to force out a single word. She was genuinely afraid of repeating the past having finally earned a chance to redeem herself. And this was one of Jiang Xue’s most untouchable boundaries. She didn’t want to ruin their relationship again just because of a single “I don’t want you to go.”
It might even make things worse.
Seeing her remain silent, Jiang Xue seemed somewhat disappointed. She reached out and pushed Lin Yulan aside. “If Little President Lin has nothing to say, please move. I’m in a hurry.”
Just as Jiang Xue pushed open the door, Lin Yulan finally steeled herself and voiced her thoughts. “I admit it, I just don’t want to see Xia Yin with you. I don’t want you to go to Melbourne with her!”
Jiang Xue’s foot, already halfway out the door, froze.
Behind her, Lin Yulan continued, “She knows full well that you and I are married, yet she still insists on inserting herself into this project. I don’t believe for a second that she’s going just for the project!”
Even if Xia Yin wouldn’t openly do anything underhanded, who could guarantee that an obsessive Alpha wouldn’t suddenly lose control?
Besides, even Xia Ran had admitted that her sister wasn’t like most people and had warned Lin Yulan to keep an eye on her especially since Jiang Xue was an unmarked Omega.
Jiang Xue slowly turned back. Lin Yulan expected her to say, as she had before, “Little President Lin has a filthy mind, don’t project that onto others.” But to her surprise, Jiang Xue only replied coolly, “Little President Lin thinks Director Xia means me harm? You might be overthinking it.”
Her rose-tinted view of Xia Yin was long gone, but even if Xia Yin was unhinged, she wouldn’t throw away her future in front of so many people.
Lin Yulan grabbed Jiang Xue’s wrist and pinned her against the wall, their noses almost touching. “She’s an Alpha, and so am I. No one understands an Alpha better than another Alpha. She hasn’t given up on you, she’s just found another excuse you can’t refuse!”
Hot breath washed over Jiang Xue’s face, making her entire body tense instinctively. She wanted to retreat, but the wall blocked her escape, forcing her to tilt her head back to avoid Lin Yulan’s gaze and proximity.
Trapped in the circle of Lin Yulan’s arms, every tiny movement Jiang Xue made was noticed including the subtle shifts she thought would go unseen.
“Talk if you want, but don’t get so close!”
Jiang Xue tried to push her away, but the moment her hand touched Lin Yulan’s shoulder, it was caught in a firm grip.
She tried to pull her hand away, but the harder she tugged, the tighter Lin Yulan held on. Then, Jiang Xue watched as Lin Yulan brought her hand to her own lips, finally pressing a feather-light kiss to the center of her palm.
Jiang Xue instantly recoiled as if shocked by electricity. Fearing Lin Yulan might escalate her antics, she tightly clutched the kissed hand and glared at Lin Yulan with wary eyes. “What are you doing?!”
Lin Yulan leaned in even closer, her face nearly brushing against Jiang Xue’s lips. She raised a hand to cradle the back of Jiang Xue’s head, closing the distance between them. “Jiang Xue, you just can’t let go of me, can you? Even though you knew I’d be fine in the end, you still rushed here to see me.”
Jiang Xue remained silent, her lips pressed tightly together. But upon closer inspection, it wasn’t just her lips her entire body was tense.
Lin Yulan nuzzled her nose against Jiang Xue’s, observing her reaction. When she saw no resistance, she gradually moved to her forehead, cheeks, chin, and finally lingered on her soft lips.
“Xiaoxue, don’t go to Melbourne, okay?” This time, Lin Yulan used her foot to nudge between Jiang Xue’s slightly parted legs, slipping in effortlessly. “Stay. Give me a chance to make it up to you, alright?”
Jiang Xue’s body tensed even more. She could feel Lin Yulan’s pheromones enveloping her, and with their compatibility at a perfect 100%, she had no way to resist the physical contact.
When Lin Yulan saw she still wasn’t responding, she asked, “Can I kiss you now?”
Jiang Xue finally snapped out of it, raising her hand to block Lin Yulan’s mouth. “N-no!”
Lin Yulan’s eyes filled with disappointment, but she said nothing. Instead, she lowered her head and gently kissed the back of Jiang Xue’s exposed hand, like a perfect gentleman.
Jiang Xue was nearly driven to the brink by these small gestures. She had no resistance to Lin Yulan’s touch, no matter how hard her mind fought against it. She knew she shouldn’t give Lin Yulan any opportunities she hadn’t forgiven her yet, and she couldn’t let this damn Alpha push her luck.
But she just couldn’t control herself, especially when Lin Yulan was seducing her with pheromones!
Jiang Xue had no choice but to pull her hand back again.
Yet the moment she withdrew it, Lin Yulan immediately closed the distance, this time without even asking she simply pressed forward and kissed her forcefully.
“Mmph!”
Jiang Xue’s eyes flew open wide. She struggled, but Lin Yulan gave her no chance, pressing her hand against the back of Jiang Xue’s head to deepen the kiss.
Soon, the room was filled with intermittent, heated gasps.
“Lin… Yulan, you… bastard…”
Jiang Xue barely managed to push her away enough to speak, but before she could finish, Lin Yulan captured her lips again, swallowing her words.
By the time Lin Yulan finally let her go, Jiang Xue was completely breathless.
Now, Jiang Xue felt like she was melting into a puddle, her entire body weak from head to toe, her heart pounding wildly. If it weren’t for the wall supporting her, she would have collapsed right then and there.
When she had recovered slightly, Jiang Xue raised her head and glared fiercely at the culprit. She intended to teach this bastard Alpha a lesson, but just as she was about to raise her hand, Lin Yulan spoke: “When I went to see Xia Yin alone, I just wanted her to stay away from you. We’re already married, and no matter how much she wants you, it’s just a delusion. But then, I never expected her to smile and ask me, ‘Do you know how Xiao Xue’s lips taste?'”
Jiang Xue froze instantly, her hand pausing mid-air.
Lin Yulan lifted her hand and pressed it against Jiang Xue’s slightly swollen lips reddened from her kisses gently tracing them inch by inch before continuing, “Do you know how I felt when I heard that? In that moment, I thought I was going to lose my mind.”
She was the one who struck first, slapping Xia Yin across the face.
Lin Yulan knew Xia Yin had done it on purpose deliberately provoking her, or, to be more blunt, flaunting her conquest. That was why she had been so furious.
Jiang Xue turned her head away. She didn’t know how to respond to this. No matter what explanation she gave, it would only make things more complicated.
“I thought… you would eventually abandon me and choose her…” Lin Yulan rested her chin on Jiang Xue’s shoulder, as if relieved, and smiled. “But when I saw you come for me, I knew you still cared about me. That made me so happy.”
Jiang Xue retorted defensively, “Little Lin, don’t flatter yourself. The only reason I went was because I was worried that if something really happened to you, your family would hold me accountable. I couldn’t bear that responsibility!”
“But you just helped apply medicine for me.”
“……”
“Did you know, Professor Jiang? I’m really happy even if I can’t take advantage, I’m still happy.”
“…………”
Lin Yulan lifted her head from Jiang Xue’s shoulder and gently caressed her face, pleading, “Xiao Xue, don’t go to Melbourne, okay?”
Just as Jiang Xue was about to say something, the butler suddenly knocked on the door.
“Young Mistress, Madam, are you in there?”
The door was actually slightly ajar Lin Yulan hadn’t closed it when she pinned Jiang Xue against the wall but the butler wasn’t sure if they were inside, so he knocked first.
Jiang Xue quickly pushed Lin Yulan away, wiped her swollen lips, and went to open the door.
“Uncle Zhao, is something the matter?”
Lin Yulan leisurely followed behind.
The butler glanced at their flustered expressions and immediately understood what had happened, though he tactfully avoided mentioning it. “Young Mistress, Madam, the Zhao family has sent an invitation.”
As he spoke, he handed over the invitation. “Mr. Zhao that is, Zhao Jin has extended an invitation in the name of the Zhao family’s eldest daughter, requesting your presence at a banquet.”
“A banquet?” Lin Yulan sneered. “Zhao Jin must be a weasel paying respects to a chicken clearly up to no good.”
“That’s why I didn’t accept it outright,” the butler replied. “I told them whether or not you attend depends on your decision. But they left the invitation behind before leaving. Young Mistress, Madam, should I send someone to return it now?”
Lin Yulan lowered her head to ask Jiang Xue, “Xiao Xue, what do you think?”
Jiang Xue tossed the invitation to Lin Yulan. She wanted to say, “They invited you, not me,” but since the butler was present, she could only tactfully reply, “I have things to attend to at school and can’t go. Since they sincerely invited you, the young lady, you should definitely accept.”
“If you’re not going, then I won’t go either.”
“You…!”
Lin Yulan handed the invitation back to the butler and said, “Uncle Zhao, send someone to return this invitation later. Just tell them neither of us has time. And by the way, let Zhao Jin know we’ll definitely inform her when the wedding happens, there’s no need to be in such a hurry to see me.”
