The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 60
Faced with Lin Yulan’s shameless behavior, Jiang Xue had no intention of indulging her. She turned to leave but was abruptly pulled back by Lin Yulan, who then wordlessly shoved her into the passenger seat.
“What are you doing?!”
Lin Yulan didn’t answer. Instead, she casually fastened Jiang Xue’s seatbelt before finally speaking, “Aren’t you heading back to the university to take care of something? I’ll drive you.”
Jiang Xue had no desire to ride with Lin Yulan. She twisted to unfasten the seatbelt and get out of the car.
But Lin Yulan was quicker, immediately grabbing Jiang Xue’s hand as she tried to unbuckle it. “Give me a chance to prove myself, okay? I won’t do anything unnecessary just this one chance, alright?”
Nothing unnecessary?
Then who was the one who had just hugged her and rubbed against her like that, a ghost?!
Jiang Xue could guarantee that if she gave in to Lin Yulan even a little, this scoundrel of an Alpha would push her luck even further.
“Director Lin’s words sound sweeter than a song.”
Lin Yulan looked at her with an innocent expression. “Then will you listen?”
Jiang Xue: “…” Was that even the point?!
“Lin Yulan, do you not understand human language? I don’t need you to drive me back to the university. If your ears aren’t working, I can buy you a hearing aid!”
But Lin Yulan refused to give up. She stubbornly insisted on driving Jiang Xue back to the university. By now, people were steadily arriving at the civil affairs bureau to handle their paperwork. If they kept tugging at each other like this, some bystanders with nothing better to do would surely gather around. And if someone pulled out their phone to record, Jiang Xue would end up infamous at H University.
Left with no choice, Jiang Xue stopped resisting.
Seeing this, Lin Yulan quickly grinned, shut the car door, and immediately drove off.
Only once they were on the road did Jiang Xue realize she hadn’t canceled her ride-hailing order. She glanced at her phone and saw the driver was still about ten minutes away from the destination. Relieved, she hurriedly canceled the booking.
The driver was probably cursing her out by now, but it wasn’t intentional. If anyone should be blamed, she wished the driver would call and chew out the idiot currently driving beside her.
“Professor Jiang, are you thirsty?”
“No. If you’re going to drive, speed up. I’m in a hurry.”
Lin Yulan checked the time. “Then are you hungry, Professor Jiang? It’s almost noon, how about we grab lunch first?”
Hah. So that’s what she was after.
Jiang Xue turned her head to look out the window and snapped, “Not thirsty, not hungry. If Director Lin is going to drive, then drive faster. If you don’t want to, pull over and let me out. I’m in a hurry.”
“But, it’s already 11:30. You’ll still need to eat when you get back to the university, won’t you?” Lin Yulan’s voice softened. “I know a place with great food. Let’s go there first, okay?”
Jiang Xue slowly turned her head back and glared at her. “I said I’m neither thirsty nor hungry. If Director Lin is hungry, then pull over and let me out. I’ll take a cab back myself.”
Lin Yulan could only shut her mouth awkwardly.
Not another word was spoken for the rest of the trip.
Mostly because Jiang Xue refused to engage with her. No matter what Lin Yulan said, Jiang Xue pretended not to hear. If Lin Yulan got too talkative, Jiang Xue would just repeat the same line. Left with no options, Lin Yulan had no choice but to stay quiet, worried that Jiang Xue might actually force her to stop the car.
A little over half an hour later, they arrived at the gates of H University.
Lin Yulan had originally intended to drive straight into the campus and drop Jiang Xue off right at her dormitory building, but Jiang Xue refused, so they had to park in an open space quite a distance from the school gate.
Jiang Xue immediately reached to unbuckle her seatbelt.
Just as she was about to push the car door open to leave, Lin Yulan called out to stop her.
“What else does Young Master Lin want to say?”
The moment the words left her mouth, she saw Lin Yulan take her left hand and press a light kiss onto her arm.
Jiang Xue froze, then yanked her hand back as if electrocuted, frowning. “Lin Yulan, what the hell are you doing?!”
The shameless Alpha looked at her with an innocent expression, even having the audacity to claim, “It’s a tradition in my family. Like my dad and my mom every time they say goodbye to each other, they give each other a kiss on the back of the hand.”
What kind of nonsense was this?
She had been around the Lin family for so long and had never heard of such a tradition!
Besides, Lin He and Ming Zhelan were both very casual people. Maybe because of their age, they were more reserved when it came to expressing affection and would never engage in such kissing behavior in public.
This was clearly just this shameless Alpha making things up!
“Young Master Lin, I’m not blind.”
Jiang Xue wanted to slap her right then and there, but the sight of that face made her hesitate. After all, she was a sucker for good looks. If Lin Yulan ended up disfigured because of it, she’d feel guilty. “Is this what Young Master Lin meant earlier by ‘I won’t do anything unnecessary’?!”
Seeing Jiang Xue’s temper flaring up again, Lin Yulan quickly raised her hands in surrender, explaining, “Professor Jiang, I wasn’t trying to be a pervert on purpose! Really! I just thought that since you’ve given me this chance to make amends, I shouldn’t disappoint you. Providing emotional support to my Omega is just what an Alpha should do, right?”
What kind of logic was this?!
At this point, Jiang Xue felt that if she exchanged even one more word with Lin Yulan today, she’d be so angry her stomach would ache. No, more like she’d probably end up with a stomach ulcer!
“Providing emotional support? Lin Yulan, is this what you call providing emotional support?! Did I ask you to do this? And did I even agree to it?!” Jiang Xue shouted. “You were clearly just taking advantage of the situation to be a pervert!”
Lin Yulan muttered weakly, “But I kind of feel like Professor Jiang was actually quite satisfied with my performance just now.”
Jiang Xue: “…”
“Professor Jiang didn’t slap me, so can I take that to mean you didn’t actually reject what I did?”
“…”
“If you didn’t reject it, doesn’t that mean I can do it?”
“…”
Jiang Xue’s anger surged straight to the top of her head. She really should have slapped her earlier, what was the point of having such a pretty face anyway? If it got ruined, she could just get plastic surgery. The Lin family was rich enough to hire the best cosmetic surgeons to fix it so no one would even notice.
But it was too late to regret now. Lin Yulan was just a shameless, thick-skinned rogue. Whether it was verbal or physical attacks, nothing worked on someone this brazen, it would only make them enjoy it even more.
Jiang Xue glared fiercely at Lin Yulan several times before finally, speechless and with her face alternating between green and purple, she pushed the car door open and stepped out. She then slammed the door shut with a loud bang and walked straight into the school without looking back.
Lin Yulan’s lips curled slightly as she gently stroked the spot on the back of her hand where she had kissed Jiang Xue. Closing her eyes like a lovesick fool, she seemed to savor the lingering sensation.
But before Lin Yulan could fully indulge in the memory, a hostile gaze immediately bore down on her from the opposite side of the car window.
As if she had eyes on the side of her face, Lin Yulan instantly sensed the animosity in that stare. Her eyes snapped open, and she turned her head sharply toward the car window.
This sudden movement proved unfortunate, as what she saw made her heart skip a beat with guilt.
The source of that hostile gaze was none other than Xia Yin.
Xia Yin must have just driven back to school and, upon spotting Lin Yulan’s car, immediately pulled over.
Lin Yulan genuinely felt guilty facing Xia Yin. After all, she had once boldly declared in front of Xia Yin that she could never fall for Jiang Xue. Now, looking back, she wished she could travel back in time and slap herself silly.
But upon closer thought, Xia Yin had never been in a relationship with Jiang Xue. The premise of her earlier statement had been based on the assumption that Jiang Xue and Xia Yin had been together. Since that wasn’t the case, the vow she made didn’t count!
Exactly.
It didn’t count!
Xia Yin pushed open the car door and strode toward Lin Yulan, her expression visibly dark and stormy, clearly fueled by personal emotions she was struggling to suppress.
Though Lin Yulan had never lost a fight, her last brawl had been back in her junior year of college. After so many years without practice, her skills had undoubtedly rusted. Whether she could still take on an Alpha like Xia Yin was anyone’s guess.
“President Lin, we meet again,” Xia Yin greeted.
Lin Yulan returned the greeting with equal formality. “What a coincidence, President Xia. Fancy running into you here.”
Xia Yin wasted no time on pleasantries, cutting straight to the chase. “So, my little sister’s best friend turns out to be you, President Lin. What a surprise. Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Lin Yulan explained, “President Xia, I never meant to deceive you. I only found out yesterday that you’re Xia Ran’s older sister.”
“Oh, is that so?”
“There’s no reason for me to lie about this, President Xia.”
True had she known earlier, their previous conversations would have gone very differently.
Xia Yin reluctantly accepted Lin Yulan’s explanation and moved on. “Fine, let’s skip that. Let’s talk about something else. Do you remember what you said the first time we met? It hasn’t even been a month since then. I’m sure someone like you, President Lin, isn’t prone to forgetfulness.”
So, she was bringing up those words after all.
Honestly, even though Lin Yulan had just convinced herself otherwise, the fact that those words had come from her own mouth made her feel a twinge of guilt facing Xia Yin.
“I’ve said quite a few things to you, President Xia. Could you remind me which one you’re referring to?”
Xia Yin’s expression darkened further. “Lin Yulan, are you playing dumb with me?”
Lin Yulan replied, “I genuinely don’t know which statement you’re asking about. Could you give me a hint?”
The area near the school wasn’t the right place for a conversation. After all, Xia Yin was now a prominent figure at the school, and if she were recognized, it could stir up unnecessary trouble.
Helpless, Xia Yin had no choice but to hold back.
“This isn’t the place to talk. Does President Lin dare to find somewhere else somewhere private to chat?”
Lin Yulan had never backed down from such a challenge, and she also wanted to make things clear with Xia Yin. Without hesitation, she agreed, “Fine. The location is entirely up to you, President Xia.”
