The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 59
The pedestrian walkway was definitely not the right place for this conversation. Moreover, Jiang Xue had no desire to discuss Lin Yulan with Qu Mengxin. If Qu Mengxin had succeeded in stealing Lin Yulan away, things wouldn’t have turned out like this.
“Miss Asa, can I interpret your words as you being embarrassed and lashing out?”
During their school days, Qu Mengxin had never openly targeted her. But when Jiang Xue was falsely accused of having an affair with Lin Yulan, Qu Mengxin hadn’t stepped forward to clear her name either. Jiang Xue could understand that Qu Mengxin didn’t want to invite trouble for herself, it was normal not to speak up in her defense.
Now, looking back, Jiang Xue realized that, from a certain perspective, Qu Mengxin’s behavior wasn’t much different from those who had slandered her.
“Hah, embarrassed and lashing out?” Qu Mengxin laughed as if she had heard the most ridiculous joke. “Jiang Xue, you really think too highly of yourself. If I were embarrassed and lashing out, do you think you’d still be standing here so calmly?”
She had never considered Jiang Xue a rival. Sure, they shared a sixty percent resemblance, but Jiang Xue was such a dull and uninteresting Omega stiff as a board, never joking around, always wearing a deadpan expression. On top of that, she was utterly clueless about romance, either holed up in her dorm or buried in the library. She was so dense that when an Alpha gave her gifts, she assumed they were meant for someone else. Just the sight of her was enough to make people lose their appetite.
If Qu Mengxin ever treated Jiang Xue as a rival, her old acquaintances would laugh her to death.
“Why wouldn’t I be standing here calmly?” Jiang Xue ignored the threat in her words, even finding Qu Mengxin’s pettiness somewhat laughable. “I hope Miss Asa understands one thing, the one who won’t let go is Lin Yulan, not me. And if the love between you and Lin Yulan were truly unbreakable, I believe not even the best crowbar in the world could pry it apart.”
The implication was clear: if the two of them had been so deeply in love, Jiang Xue wouldn’t even be part of the picture now.
Qu Mengxin’s expression darkened instantly, a stark contrast to her earlier sneer.
Jiang Xue’s words had struck a nerve. No matter how sweet their past had been, the undeniable truth now was that Lin Yulan’s feelings for her were completely gone reduced to nothing more than indifference toward a stranger.
Knowing she couldn’t refute Jiang Xue on this point, Qu Mengxin glanced up at the civil affairs office not far ahead and suddenly realized something. She smirked coldly. “Didn’t you and Yulan just get married? Why are you at the civil affairs office so soon?”
Just as she thought Lin Yulan’s display of affection with Jiang Xue last night had only been to spite her.
But before Qu Mengxin could revel in her satisfaction, Jiang Xue replied, “I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed, Miss Asa. I’m the one divorcing Lin Yulan not the other way around.”
Jiang Xue didn’t know what expression Qu Mengxin would make if she recounted everything that had just happened, but she wasn’t the type to derive pleasure from mocking others. Whether Qu Mengxin was upset or angry, it had nothing to do with her.
She had no intention of getting entangled in the messy love-hate drama between Qu Mengxin and Lin Yulan.
On the contrary, Qu Mengxin had no interest in the tangled web of love and hate between herself and Lin Yulan.
“What? You’re the one who wants a divorce?”
Qu Mengxin clearly didn’t believe it, but Jiang Xue had no reason to lie about this. She could only probe further, “Isn’t this what you’ve always dreamed of? Marrying Yulan is like marrying into wealth. The Lin family’s main branch has only Yulan as their daughter. In the future, the entire Lin Group will be hers. And with Yulan’s status and power, you could easily squeeze your way into the upper-class circle of wealthy wives. Are you really willing to give all that up?”
If not for her wretched family, Jiang Xue might have grown up thinking the same way. People often said that no matter how hard you worked, it couldn’t compare to being born into the right family. Similarly, no matter how much effort you put in, it was nothing compared to marrying well. Crude as the saying was, it held truth. But thanks to Zhang Rong, Jiang Xue had learned that relying on others was never as reliable as relying on herself. Even if Lin Yulan had billions in assets, none of it belonged to her.
Besides, even without Lin Yulan, while she might not become a true heiress, among ordinary people, she could still be considered quite well-off living a comfortable life.
Jiang Xue patiently replied, “If Miss Asa is so envious of all this, I suggest you go persuade Xiao Lin to stop pestering me. As long as she agrees, I promise to sign the divorce papers without hesitation. But if Miss Asa can’t manage that, I hope you’ll think carefully before speaking next time. If you want respect from others, you must first respect them.”
Jiang Xue had no intention of wasting time on this matter with Qu Mengxin. In fact, she rather hoped Qu Mengxin would take this straight to Lin Yulan maybe that would force Lin Yulan to finally agree to the divorce and spare them both further mess.
“If Miss Asa has nothing else, I’ll take my leave now.”
Qu Mengxin had no excuse to stop her. She had come intending to mock Jiang Xue, only to end up the fool herself. Gritting her teeth, she slammed a fist onto the steering wheel.
Then she picked up her phone and dialed Zhao Jin.
“President Zhao, it’s me. Does your promise from last time still stand? Good, as long as it does. We’ll talk later.”
After hanging up, Qu Mengxin cursed several times under her breath before finally driving off just before someone could report her for illegal parking.
Jiang Xue had returned to the civil affairs bureau to wait for her ride-hailing car, only to find that Lin Yulan hadn’t left at all. Spotting her, Lin Yulan even deliberately pulled the car over.
“You, why are you still here?” Jiang Xue was taken aback before speaking.
Lin Yulan stepped out of the car and stood in front of Jiang Xue. “What did Qu Mengxin just say to you?”
She had originally been on her way back to the company but hadn’t driven far when she spotted Qu Mengxin’s car. Worried that Qu Mengxin might cause trouble for Jiang Xue, Lin Yulan had turned back.
“You saw that?” Jiang Xue said. “So, Xiao Lin is here to stand up for your ex-girlfriend?”
“You know perfectly well that’s not why I came back!”
“Oh, really? So I’ve wronged Xiao Lin?”
Lin Yulan didn’t take the bait, if she did, they’d just go in circles again. Instead, she asked, “Did Qu Mengxin give you trouble?”
She had thought Qu Mengxin would behave herself after learning about her marriage to Jiang Xue, at least not to the point of erasing the last bit of affection between them. But the reality proved she had completely misjudged Qu Mengxin that Omega was no longer the same person she had once been with.
Worried that Jiang Xue might be bullied after all, given Qu Mengxin’s current tactics, Jiang Xue was no match for her Lin Yulan quickly turned back.
“Seems like Little President Lin still has some self-awareness.”
“What did she say to you?”
Lin Yulan thought for a moment, then added, “You can tell me anything directly. Don’t keep it bottled up, okay?”
She would feel heartbroken too.
Jiang Xue looked at her but ultimately said nothing. “Why doesn’t Little President Lin just ask her ex-girlfriend directly? What if she later accuses me of slandering her? I can’t take that responsibility.”
“Xue, she’s already in my past. I’ve made things clear with her. So, could you stop saying things like that?” Lin Yulan stepped forward and pulled her into a tight embrace. “If you don’t like me meeting her, then I won’t see her ever again!”
When an Alpha got agitated, their pheromones would uncontrollably leak out something Jiang Xue had noticed long ago. That’s why she usually avoided getting too close when Lin Yulan was emotional, afraid the Alpha’s pheromones would affect her, making her lose control over certain thoughts.
Jiang Xue raised her hands to push her away, but Lin Yulan was pressed too close, the sensation of those two soft mounds against her making it impossible to find a proper place to push.
“Let me go first!” Jiang Xue retracted her hands as if electrocuted. “Can’t you just talk properly?!”
At her words, Lin Yulan only held her tighter. “Then, what do you think? Do you not want her to see me?”
Jiang Xue felt completely derailed. Without thinking, she blurted out, “Even if I did, could Little President Lin actually do it? That’s the Omega you once pined for day and night, the future partner you were willing to divorce me for at all costs.”
Lin Yulan finally understood why elders often warned against speaking in absolutes this was like lifting a rock only to drop it on her own foot, with no choice but to endure it.
“I’m sorry, I… I…”
If this conversation continued, Jiang Xue felt she might storm straight to the civil affairs bureau the next second and tell the staff she had made up her mind, that she wouldn’t regret it. So, she had to cut the topic short. “Whether Little President Lin meets Miss Asa or not has nothing to do with me. But there’s one thing I hope you’ll remember, I don’t like others interfering in my life, especially when it comes to personal emotions.”
Was this, an indirect way of telling her to resolve Qu Mengxin’s emotional issues?
Lin Yulan nuzzled against Jiang Xue’s shoulder and murmured, “Don’t worry, I won’t give her another chance to bother you!”
I hope you can keep your word.
Jiang Xue felt like she was being squeezed breathless, especially with Lin Yulan’s lips brushing against her ear, making it impossible for her to sound firm. “You can let go now.”
Lin Yulan took the chance to linger a little longer before reluctantly releasing her.
Jiang Xue took the opportunity to shove him back forcefully, her expression awkward as she tugged at her ear, then glared and said, “If Little Lin can’t learn to speak properly in the future, I wouldn’t mind teaching him a lesson.”
Lin Yulan thought to himself, Is this really happening?
After steadying himself, he bounced right back in front of Jiang Xue like an indestructible cockroach. He grabbed her hand and placed it on his chest, looking at her expectantly. “How exactly does Teacher Jiang plan to teach me? Does it come with a satisfaction guarantee?”
Jiang Xue: “…”
