The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 58
“Are you really not divorcing me anymore?”
She wanted to divorce him, alright, but in this situation, what was the point?!
This bastard Alpha was taking advantage of the situation while pretending to be virtuous, yet Jiang Xue had no way to deal with Lin Yulan’s antics.
“When did I say I wouldn’t divorce you?”
Lin Yulan panicked instantly and was about to drop to his knees again, but Jiang Xue, now experienced, reacted quickly and yanked him back up. “Can’t we talk properly? Do you have to resort to this?”
If he wasn’t embarrassed, she certainly was!
“But inside, you said—”
“I only said I’d give you a chance, not that I wouldn’t divorce you!”
Lin Yulan muttered under his breath, “Giving me a chance basically means not divorcing me.”
Jiang Xue: “…”
Jiang Xue couldn’t be bothered to argue further. It was a waste of breath anyway. “In short, I didn’t say I wouldn’t divorce you. I’m just giving you a chance. If you haven’t changed my mind by the time I return, then even if you kneel until your knees break, I won’t change my decision.”
By the time she returned?
What did that mean?
“You’re still leaving with them?” Lin Yulan gripped Jiang Xue’s shoulders, rambling, “Didn’t you say you’d give me a chance? Why are you still going with them? Are you planning to stay abroad for a year or two and then come back just to divorce me?”
Jiang Xue winced from the pain, her brows furrowing as she grabbed Lin Yulan’s hands to pry them off. “Lin Yulan, can you calm down?! Do you think everyone is as unreliable as you?”
If she left, what difference would it make whether she gave him a chance or not?
Lin Yulan felt this was just Jiang Xue’s way of placating him her real plan was to use legal means to divorce him while she was away!
“Then don’t go, okay?” Lin Yulan clutched Jiang Xue’s hands instead. “I’ll give you anything you want! That school project is just a measly few million, I can offer you better projects. Just don’t leave with them, alright?! If you think managing projects is too much trouble, just name a price, and I’ll have the money transferred to your account immediately!”
Jiang Xue was getting a headache from this nonsense. “What if I want all of the Lin family’s wealth? Can you give me that?”
“Well that’s not impossible, but…”
Lin Yulan’s voice was so soft it was almost inaudible, forcing Jiang Xue to ask, “What?”
Lin Yulan mumbled weakly, “Most of the Lin family’s shares are still in my parents’ hands. If you want the family fortune, could you wait a bit? My dad said he’ll retire in a few years, and then everything in the Lin Corporation will be mine. So if you want the family wealth, could you wait until my parents retire?”
Jiang Xue: “…” What a touching display of filial piety.
“How many years until your parents retire? I don’t want to wait that long.”
“Then, I’ll give you my CEO position! I’ll be your assistant, how about that?!”
“…” Was this guy serious?!
Jiang Xue realized there was no reasoning with Lin Yulan right now. This bastard was being completely unreasonable anything she said went in one ear and out the other, like wasted breath.
“What would I do with your CEO position? A powerless figurehead? Just to make my life harder?”
Lin Yulan thought for a moment and said earnestly, “Well, how about I have my dad retire early? I’ll give you the chairman’s position.”
Jiang Xue thought to herself, Is the chairman’s position something you can just hand out like that? But then again, considering how doting Ming Zelan and her husband were on Jiang Xue, it didn’t seem entirely impossible.
Such a loving father and filial daughter.
She wondered how Lin He would feel if he knew his most beloved daughter had said this, would he be so angry he’d spit blood?
“Whatever you want, I can give it to you. Just don’t go abroad, okay?”
Jiang Xue was speechless. “Little President Lin, would you ever tell a business partner halfway through a project, ‘I don’t want to do this anymore’?”
Lin Yulan retorted, “That’s different!”
“How is it different? This is something I’ve already discussed and agreed upon with the school administration. It’s no different from the clients you collaborate with on projects.”
“It is different!”
Jiang Xue gritted her teeth. “How?!”
Lin Yulan answered very seriously, “With project clients, I can just throw money at them to shut them up. Even if I back out midway, as long as the compensation is enough, they won’t complain. But you’re different. If I hijack this school project of yours halfway, you’ll definitely divorce me again.”
Jiang Xue: “…” Money is great. Money is really great. With money, you can make the devil push your grindstone.
She didn’t doubt for a second that Lin Yulan would do exactly that. After all, that amount of money was nothing to Lin Yulan just a day’s net profit for one of the Lin Group’s subsidiaries. She wouldn’t even bat an eye at it.
But if Lin Yulan really dared to do that, Jiang Xue would hate her for the rest of her life.
“Can you leave now?”
“Leave?”
Jiang Xue said, “I still have things to do at school. If you’ve got nothing better to do, feel free to stand here and enjoy the northwest wind. I won’t keep you company.”
Lin Yulan quickly grabbed her arm, still unable to believe it. “You, you’re really willing to give me a chance? Not just to humor me?”
Jiang Xue’s indifferent attitude made it impossible for Lin Yulan to tell whether she was serious. If she was just brushing her off, then Lin Yulan would truly have no chance left.
“Do I look like someone with nothing better to do? If I had time to humor you, I’d rather go back and teach a few more classes for my students.” Jiang Xue shook off Lin Yulan’s hand and said irritably, “Little President Lin, I get that you’re just a figurehead CEO who doesn’t have much to do and has plenty of free time. But I’m just an ordinary person. I don’t have the luxury of being as wealthy as you. If I don’t work, I might actually starve to death. So unless it’s something important, please don’t bother me.”
“My money won’t it all be yours in the future anyway?”
Jiang Xue: “…”
Lin Yulan thought for a moment and then changed her approach. “How about Professor Jiang gives me a chance to be a kept woman? Would that work?”
A kept woman?
Just how badly would the Lin Group have to decline for her to need Jiang Xue’s support?
Besides, if Jiang Xue wanted someone to pamper, why wouldn’t she go for a young, beautiful, and physically strong Alpha?
Not only could they provide emotional fulfillment, but they could also physically ensure her happiness. What could Lin Yulan offer? Other than giving her stomachaches from anger, what else was she good for?!
“If Young Master Lin ever reaches the point where he needs to live off someone else, I do know a place I could recommend guaranteed to keep him well-fed on soft rice anytime.”
Lin Yulan immediately knew it couldn’t be anything good, but human curiosity is always piqued by half-spoken words. She couldn’t help but ask, “Wh-what kind of place?”
Jiang Xue had only said it offhand she had no idea where such a place would even be. So she replied, “Your Lin family must know plenty of wealthy older women, right? If Young Master Lin were to sell herself, with her looks, would she really have trouble finding a sugar mommy?”
The mention of “sugar mommy” sent shivers down Lin Yulan’s spine. She would never forget the first time she went out for a business meeting and encountered a “heavyweight” sugar mommy. The way that woman had looked at her like she wanted to strip her clothes off right then and there had been terrifying. If Lin Yulan hadn’t left quickly, there would’ve been no escape.
“But I only want to live off Teacher Jiang,” Lin Yulan said pitifully, gazing at her. “I can be your workhorse, in bed or out of it. Just say the word, and I promise you’ll be satisfied!”
This woman truly had no shame.
Jiang Xue glared at her fiercely but ultimately held back from cursing. “Lin Yulan, stop spouting nonsense. It’s not funny at all. I did promise to give you a chance, but there’s something else I forgot to say giving you a chance doesn’t mean I forgive you, nor does it mean I’ll ever fully accept you again.”
“I know,” Lin Yulan said with a bitter smile. “You don’t have to forgive me, really.”
Just having this one chance was already more than she dared hope for. She wouldn’t ask for anything more.
After speaking, Jiang Xue glanced at Lin Yulan once before turning and walking away without another word, heading toward the road.
Lin Yulan wanted to follow, but Jiang Xue’s demeanor made it clear she wasn’t welcome. So she simply stood there, watching Jiang Xue’s retreating figure until it disappeared from sight, before finally getting into her car and returning to the company.
Jiang Xue had actually already booked a taxi on her phone, with the pickup location set at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau. But she didn’t want to stay with Lin Yulan any longer, so she had deliberately made an excuse to leave first, planning to circle back after Lin Yulan was gone.
Yet in the end, she had still softened and given Lin Yulan a chance. She should have been firmer.
Jiang Xue bit down hard on her lip, nearly drawing blood before finally releasing it. To avoid being alone with Lin Yulan, she wandered aimlessly around the area near the Civil Affairs Bureau, killing time before heading back.
Just then, a Porsche suddenly screeched to a halt right in front of her.
Jiang Xue instinctively stepped aside, ready to confront the driver once the car stopped. But when she knocked on the window, her expression instantly darkened.
The driver was none other than Qu Mengxin.
“It’s you.”
Qu Mengxin rolled down the window completely, tilting her head to scrutinize Jiang Xue with undisguised disdain. She couldn’t fathom why Lin Yulan would marry an Omega like Jiang Xue, someone with no taste from head to toe.
Aside from that face, which bore a sixty percent resemblance to hers, Jiang Xue was inferior in every way.
“If not me, who else did you expect?”
With Lin Yulan absent, Qu Mengxin held nothing back. “What, did you find yourself another Alpha to chase after?”
Jiang Xue understood why Qu Mengxin was upset upon learning that she and Lin Yulan were already married, and she could see why Qu Mengxin would lash out with such sharp words.
But understanding didn’t mean acceptance.
“This is my personal matter, and it doesn’t seem to have anything to do with you, Miss Asa.”
Qu Mengxin scoffed coldly. “Nothing to do with me? Jiang Xue, I must have underestimated you. I was only abroad for a short while, and you took the chance to steal him right from under me. Back in school, was there ever a time I wronged you?”
