The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 57.2
Then Lin Yulan said, “Go straight to Zhao Jin and tell her, if I hear any more of these rumors, don’t blame me for cutting ties with the Zhao family!”
The assistant immediately understood. “Assistant Manager Lin, was this Zhao Jin’s doing?”
Who else could it be but that bitch Zhao Jin?!
Why was everyone making things harder for her right now?
Why?!
Lin Yulan gritted her teeth. “Go to Zhao Jin first and tell her exactly what I said. If she doesn’t retract all those slanderous claims, then the project negotiations are off.”
That project wasn’t a big deal for the Zhao family losing it wouldn’t matter much. But in reality, what the Zhaos really wanted was the real estate behind the project. If they clashed with the Lin family now, it wouldn’t do them any good.
She doubted Zhao Jin would be foolish enough to throw away the bigger prize for a petty gain.
The assistant nodded. “Understood, Assistant Manager Lin. I’ll handle it right away!”
After the assistant left, Lin Yulan stood up and kicked her chair hard, muttering a few vicious curses under her breath about Zhao Jin before finally calming down a little.
She didn’t know if Jiang Xue would see those rumors. Omegas rarely engaged with online gossip, so it was unlikely. But even so, Lin Yulan found Zhao Jin’s move utterly disgusting.
Lin Yulan had originally planned to reconcile with Jiang Xue and hold a proper wedding, declaring in front of everyone that this was the love of her life. But now, thanks to Zhao Jin’s meddling, how would the elite families view Jiang Xue in the future?
Her last shred of goodwill toward Qu Mengxin vanished in an instant.
Tomorrow.
Tomorrow would mark the third day.
Lin Yulan stared at the time on her phone, leaning against the wall in a daze. If she couldn’t keep Jiang Xue tomorrow, what was she supposed to do?
Just the thought of it made her heart ache unbearably.
That night.
Lin Yulan didn’t return to the Lin family villa. Instead, she drank alone in the office all night until she passed out in a drunken stupor.
The next morning, she was jolted awake by an unfamiliar phone call.
Answering it, she realized it was Jiang Xue.
“Hello.”
“It’s me.”
The lingering effects of last night’s alcohol still clouded her mind, but the sound of Jiang Xue’s voice instantly sharpened her senses. “Xiaoxue.”
Jiang Xue clearly had no interest in small talk and cut straight to the point. “I’m waiting for you at the Civil Affairs Bureau.”
“Xiaoxue, we—”
Beep beep beep.
Before Lin Yulan could finish, the call ended abruptly. Jiang Xue didn’t even give her a moment more, the Omega was dead set on divorcing her.
What was she supposed to do?
If she didn’t go, could she pretend nothing had happened? Would they still be married?
But Jiang Xue was waiting. She couldn’t let the Omega down.
In the end, Lin Yulan drove to the Civil Affairs Bureau alone.
Today, Jiang Xue wore a moon-white dress, her hair loose and cascading down to her waist. The wind tousled her dark locks, sweeping them across her chest, lending her a fragile, ethereal beauty.
It reminded Lin Yulan of their first visit to the Civil Affairs Bureau to register their marriage. Back then, Jiang Xue had worn a similar dress, her hair simply braided. Even without much makeup, she had been utterly captivating.
“I thought you wouldn’t come.”
“Why?”
Jiang Xue didn’t answer. Turning away, she said, “Since you’re here, let’s go in.”
Lin Yulan stood rooted to the spot, her feet as if glued down by superglue. The words “Civil Affairs Bureau” above the entrance felt like a knife twisting in her heart.
When Jiang Xue noticed Lin Yulan still hadn’t moved, she turned back. “Director Lin, I have things to do later. Please hurry.”
“Xiaoxue, can we talk one more time?”
“There’s nothing left to discuss between us.” Jiang Xue took a deep breath. “We’re already at the Civil Affairs Bureau. We’re adults, I hope you can be realistic about this.”
Lin Yulan took a few steps forward until she stood right in front of Jiang Xue. “Can we really not talk this through?”
“No.”
It was still early, and the registration hall was nearly empty. The striking figures of Jiang Xue and Lin Yulan stood out immediately. The staff member who had processed their marriage license recognized them at once.
“Sister Hui, why are they back? Are they here for a divorce?”
“Last time, it was for a marriage license. This time, it’s obviously for a divorce. Do you even need to ask?”
“But they got married less than a month ago. How can they be divorcing already? That’s way too fast!”
“Tsk, young people these days are all like this. Who knows what goes on in their heads? Keep your voice down, if they overhear and complain, we’re done for.”
Jiang Xue walked over and saw the familiar faces, feeling somewhat awkward inside. But this divorce was something she had to go through, so she steeled herself and explained to the two staff members that she was there to process her divorce certificate.
The staff member named Sister Hui glanced back at Lin Yulan, then turned to look at Jiang Xue again. She thought to herself that she had warned them before, advising them to go back and think it over before making a decision. Yet, they had insisted on getting married. Just as she had predicted, they were divorcing so soon.
But even Sister Hui hadn’t expected it to happen this quickly, it was almost absurd.
“Are you two really sure about this?” the staff member asked. “Would you like to go back and reconsider?”
When they had come to register their marriage, Jiang Xue had heard the exact same words. Perhaps she should have listened to the staff member back then none of this would be happening now.
“We’ve already.”
“Sorry, we haven’t made up our minds yet. We’ll go back and think it over!”
Jiang Xue turned to face Lin Yulan, about to say something, but in the next second, the Alpha unexpectedly dropped to her knees right in front of her.
Everyone present was stunned, including Jiang Xue, who looked at Lin Yulan with disbelief.
“Lin Yulan, what are you doing?!”
Jiang Xue reached out to pull her up, but Lin Yulan grabbed her hand tightly instead. “Xiaoxue, I know I was wrong. I’ll change, I really will! Can’t we not get divorced? I’m begging you, please don’t divorce me, okay? I’ll agree to anything you say, I’ll do whatever you want! Just don’t leave me, please?”
“Lin Yulan, get up first!” Jiang Xue kept trying to pull her up, but Lin Yulan, as an Alpha, was far too strong, she couldn’t budge her at all. “Whatever you have to say, say it after you stand up!”
Lin Yulan shook her head. “I won’t! Not unless you promise not to divorce me!”
There weren’t many people at the office at this time only about a dozen but a dozen onlookers was still a crowd, especially when they all gathered around, eager to witness the drama.
“Lin Yulan, stop this!”
Jiang Xue hadn’t expected Lin Yulan to kneel in front of so many people. Her emotions were a tangled mess. “Just get up first!”
“Then, are you agreeing?”
“I—!”
No one dared to step in and mediate. Conventional wisdom said to encourage separation, not reconciliation, who knew what might go wrong, and they didn’t want to be blamed for it later.
Seeing that this situation wasn’t going to resolve itself, the staff member reluctantly stepped forward to intervene.
“You two maybe you should go sit over there and talk it out? If more people come, it might not look good for either of you.”
Jiang Xue briefly considered just turning and walking away after all, she wouldn’t be the one left embarrassed. But after a moment’s hesitation, she found she couldn’t bring herself to be that heartless.
In this regard, she truly had no way to handle Lin Yulan.
“Get up.”
“I won’t!” Lin Yulan insisted. “If I stand up, you’ll still want a divorce, won’t you?”
Jiang Xue pressed her lips together, then closed her eyes and took a deep breath before finally relenting. “Fine. I’ll give you one chance. Now get up.”
Lin Yulan hesitated, unsure. “R-really?”
Was Jiang Xue really giving her another chance, or was this just a way to placate her for now?
If it was just to placate her, it would be better to tell her outright and let her give up completely.
“Get up first!” Jiang Xue said. “Are you really going to force me to walk away right now?”
The moment Lin Yulan heard that Jiang Xue might abandon her, she immediately scrambled to her feet. “I didn’t mean to force you. I just want you to give me a chance. You don’t have to forgive me, and you can hate me for the rest of your life, but can’t you at least give me a chance not to get divorced?”
Jiang Xue wasn’t used to being gawked at like a circus act. After apologizing to the staff, she pulled Lin Yulan outside.
