“Assistant Director Lin, I recognize this Alpha,” the assistant confirmed. “She’s the newly appointed vice president of the Xia Corporation.”

Xia Corporation?

Newly appointed vice president?

“Wasn’t she a professor at H University? How did she suddenly become the vice president of Xia Corporation?” Lin Yulan asked. “Are you sure you didn’t mistake her for someone else?”

The assistant replied with absolute certainty, “Assistant Director Lin, how could I mistake such a distinctive face? She’s definitely the newly appointed vice president of Xia Corporation! From what I’ve heard, she returned from abroad not too long ago about three months ago, I think. Chairman Ming and the others probably know her too. As for why she went to teach at a university, it’s most likely because she had too much free time on her hands.”

What the assistant didn’t dare say out loud was: Isn’t it obvious? She’s trying to woo your wife!

“Come pick me up right now!”

Limping, Lin Yulan found a spot to lean against and bent down to rub the spot on her foot that had been stomped on, wincing in pain.

In the capital, she only knew of one Xia Corporation and that was Xia Ran’s family. Moreover, Jiang Xue had mentioned that the Alpha’s name was Xia Yin also with the surname Xia. This couldn’t be a coincidence.

“My sister went abroad with me a long time ago and only recently came back.”

“If you want to drink, don’t come to my place. My sister’s at home, and if she sees me, I’ll definitely get scolded.”

Lin Yulan didn’t believe in coincidences this blatant. If Xia Yin really was the newly appointed vice president of Xia Corporation and had just returned from abroad, then she was undoubtedly Xia Ran’s older sister.

Her best friend’s sister was trying to woo her wife, no matter where you looked at it, this was explosive news.

Soon, the assistant arrived to pick her up. Once Lin Yulan got in the car, the assistant handed her a tablet.

“Assistant Director Lin, all the information about Vice President Xia is here…” The assistant glanced at the rearview mirror and hesitated before adding, “There might be some details in there that you… won’t want to see.”

“I know.”

Without even looking at the information, Lin Yulan handed the tablet back to the assistant. “She’s Xia Ran’s older sister, isn’t she?”

The assistant replied softly, “Yes.”

This situation had just gotten awkward. On one side was her best friend, and on the other was her beloved wife. If she wanted to preserve her friendship with Xia Ran, she couldn’t confront Xia Yin directly. But for the sake of her wife, she had to meet Xia Yin and make things clear and once they met, there was no way to pretend they didn’t know each other.

Besides, it was obvious that Xia Yin had no intention of giving up on Jiang Xue. Even if Lin Yulan laid everything out plainly, Xia Yin wouldn’t back down.

That left Lin Yulan with only one option she had to talk to Xia Ran.

There are ultimately only two possible outcomes to this course of action. Either Xia Ran would persuade her own sister to stop obsessing over someone else’s wife, and Xia Yin would obediently listen, thus giving up on pursuing Jiang Xue. Or Xia Ran would side with her sister, believing that since Jiang Xue no longer liked Lin Yulan and was prepared to divorce her, there was nothing wrong with her sister pursuing Jiang Xue after which their close friendship would come to an end, and they would become strangers from then on.

“Miss Lin,” the assistant tentatively asked, “what do you plan to do about this? As for Miss Xia…”

“Are you asking if I’ll go to Xia Ran and make it clear what her sister is doing?”

“It’s better to clarify things. Miss Xia’s sister probably doesn’t know that the young madam is already married to you. If this isn’t made clear, and something were to happen, it would definitely have a negative impact on the young madam.”

The assistant had a point.

This kind of situation might not affect Xia Yin much after all, as an Alpha, the world tends to be more lenient toward Alphas. But if the other party is a married Omega, the public opinion would clearly be different.

Lin Yulan rubbed her temples in frustration and muttered a curse under her breath. If it were anyone else, she could easily use a few tactics to make them scram without a second thought. But the problem was, that female Alpha was Xia Ran’s own sister.

She didn’t know if Xia Ran would stand by her side, but Xia Ran was aware of everything that had happened between her and Jiang Xue after their marriage. If that were the case, upon learning that her sister was pursuing Jiang Xue, Xia Ran might very well say something like:
“In that case, let Jiang Xue make the choice herself.”

Seeing that Lin Yulan remained silent, the assistant asked, “Miss Lin, where should we go now?”

Lin Yulan replied listlessly, “It’s late. Let’s just go home first.”

Halfway there, the assistant caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. Upon closer look, they immediately recognized the person walking by the roadside, it was Jiang Xue.

“Miss Lin.”

“Just say what you mean next time.”

The assistant said, “Isn’t that the young madam?”

Lin Yulan followed the assistant’s gaze out the car window and, sure enough, it was Jiang Xue.

“Pull over!”

Jiang Xue couldn’t walk fast in high heels. She usually avoided wearing them, preferring flats instead mainly because she wasn’t used to them, and they made her feet ache after a while. Like now, after walking for less than an hour and a half, her feet were already throbbing in pain. The backs of her heels had been rubbed raw by the shoes, adding agony to agony, making it impossible for her to walk any faster.

Just as she bent down to take off her high heels, intending to walk back to school barefoot, someone suddenly scooped her up from behind in a princess carry.

Jiang Xue was startled and struggled, about to scream for help, when she felt Lin Yulan’s warm breath against the back of her ear. “It’s me.”

Lin Yulan?!

Jiang Xue jerked her head up and met Lin Yulan’s gaze as he looked down at her.

Jiang Xue struggled fiercely. The streets were crowded with people out for a stroll, and Lin Yulan didn’t want anyone misunderstanding and calling the police, so instead of carrying her straight to the car, he chose a spot with a stone bench and carefully set her down.

The moment he let go, Jiang Xue immediately lifted her foot and kicked at him without hesitation.

Fortunately, Lin Yulan reacted quickly enough, the high heel only struck his knee, but it hurt so much he nearly teared up again.

“Xue, you really went for the kill with that kick…”

“You deserved it!”

“Aren’t you afraid of actually hitting the wrong spot? What about your happiness for the rest of your life?”

Passersby walking past them overheard Lin Yulan’s remark and cast strange, amused glances their way.

Jiang Xue’s ears burned red instantly. She wasn’t as shameless as Lin Yulan, and this wasn’t the entrance of the Lin family villa, it was a public street, with so many people watching!

“What nonsense are you spouting?!”

Lin Yulan put on an innocent face. “Isn’t it the truth? We’re already married. If you kick me there, wouldn’t it affect our future, mmph!”

Jiang Xue couldn’t bear the embarrassment any longer and clamped a hand over his mouth. “Lin Yulan, shut up!”

“Lin Yulan, are you a pervert?!”

She practically hissed the words, terrified others might think they were both degenerates, not daring to raise her voice.

But Lin Yulan, this damn Alpha, acted as if the onlookers didn’t exist. He tilted his chin teasingly. “Is Teacher Jiang blushing? I thought you wouldn’t be the type to get shy.”

“What does this have to do with being shy?!” Jiang Xue gritted her teeth. “You’re just a pervert! We’re on a public street!”

Lin Yulan ignored her, rummaging in his pocket for something.

Jiang Xue grew increasingly furious as Lin Yulan remained silent. She couldn’t beat him in a fight, out-argue him, or even match his shamelessness. She felt Lin Yulan was nothing short of a nemesis sent by the heavens to torment her!

The best way to deal with such a rogue brute, she decided, was simply to ignore him.

Gritting her teeth, Jiang Xue tried to stand up and leave, but before her foot even touched the ground, Lin Yulan pushed her back down.

Then, to her astonishment, she watched as Lin Yulan pulled a delicate silk scarf from his pocket, knelt on one knee before her, and proceeded to remove her high heels.

“Lin Yulan, what are you doing?!”

Jiang Xue instinctively tried to pull her foot back or rather, she nearly kicked him outright. Given the angle, it wouldn’t have just been painful for him, so she forced herself to hold back.

After taking off her heels, Lin Yulan didn’t do anything untoward. Instead, he gently dabbed the scarf against the raw, blistered skin on the back of her heel.

Jiang Xue winced. “That hurts!”

“If it hurts, then why were you walking so fast?”

“……”

Jiang Xue thought, Isn’t the root cause of this pain you, you shameless bastard?!

And now he had the nerve to play the victim!

“It’s not like,”

“I’m sorry. It’s my fault. If not for me, Professor Jiang’s feet wouldn’t be blistered. This is entirely on me.”

Jiang Xue hadn’t expected him to apologize so quickly this time. For a moment, she was at a loss for words, but even so, his sudden remorse didn’t change her opinion of this scoundrel one bit!
