The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 49
“This property belongs to the Lin family.”
With Lin Yulan’s words, even a fool could understand what was going on.
Money really does make the world go round.
Jiang Xue was at a loss for words. “So that’s how it is. Is Young Master Lin trying to tell me that money means you can do whatever you want? Or perhaps, Young Master Lin is warning me that no matter where I run, I can never escape your grasp?”
Lin Yulan hurriedly explained, “That’s not what I meant! Xiaoxue, that female Alpha has ulterior motives toward you. She… she’s definitely scheming something!”
“So what? What does that have to do with you, Young Master Lin?”
“Of course it has to do with me!” Lin Yulan didn’t care if there were people around or if they were watching the drama unfold. He had long stopped worrying about appearances, how could he win his wife back if he cared about saving face?
“You’re my Omega, my wife! If she has ill intentions toward you and wants to steal you away, how does that not concern me?!” Every word Lin Yulan spoke seemed to be forced through gritted teeth. “That female Alpha is a complete fanatic! Remember when I told you before? I ran into her at the school gate, and she actually threatened me! You have to stay away from her. If she snaps or decides to target you, someone like her, a fanatic, won’t care about the consequences!”
Jiang Xue laughed outright. It was the funniest joke she’d heard in a while. “You’re saying Xia Yin threatened you? Lin Yulan, if you’re going to make up a story, at least make it believable. With the power and status of your Lin family, who could threaten you? Who would dare? You’re more likely to be the one threatening others!”
That was the truth.
The number of people who could threaten him could be counted on one hand.
“What if she didn’t know who I was?!”
Jiang Xue didn’t laugh. She was disgusted by Lin Yulan’s habit of badmouthing others behind their backs. “So what? What exactly is Young Master Lin trying to say? That others are bad, and you’re good? If that’s the point you’re trying to make, then I’m sorry, but in my eyes, Xia Yin is someone who genuinely cares for Omegas gentle, considerate, and always providing the emotional support I need. She would never harm an Omega, even if she disliked them.”
At this, Lin Yulan’s heart twisted painfully. “Yes, I… I’m sorry! It’s my fault! I’ll work hard to change, I promise!”
Jiang Xue turned away, unwilling to look at him. She had heard too many apologies from him already. She didn’t want to hear any more, nor did she want to see Lin Yulan right now. “If Young Master Lin has nothing else to say, you can leave. Don’t interfere with my shopping trip, thank you.”
“Her name is Xia Yin, right?”
Hearing Lin Yulan ask this, Jiang Xue immediately felt a sense of foreboding. She turned back. “What are you planning?”
Lin Yulan replied, “What do you think I’ll do?”
The words were undeniably suggestive. Without paying attention to his tone or expression, it sounded like a blatant threat.
Of course, even if Jiang Xue noticed these details, given Lin Yulan’s past behavior like when he had threatened others without hesitation after Qu Mengxin was harassed by another Alpha, she still believed it was the former.
“Lin Yulan, don’t make me hate you!” Jiang Xue knew her warning might be useless Lin Yulan probably wouldn’t listen but she still had to try. “If you dare do anything to Xia Yin, I will never forgive you in this lifetime!”
“You think I’d harm her?”
“…Wouldn’t you?”
Lin Yulan considered himself far from a saint, but he was no underhanded villain either. If he really wanted to mess with someone, he’d do it openly, never resorting to sneaky tricks behind their back.
Jiang Xue, are you so desperate to rekindle things with that female Alpha now?
But if that’s the case, why did you go to such lengths to return to my side before?
“Why do you think I would?” Lin Yulan said pitifully. “Do I really seem like that kind of… unreasonable person?”
Jiang Xue’s response was the same as before. “Isn’t Young Master Lin exactly that kind of person?”
Without understanding the truth, she assumed he had schemed to marry her for the Lin family’s wealth, always believing him to be the most calculating Omega, that everything he did was ruthless, his words sharp enough to grind all his dignity into the dirt.
Yet even now, he had the nerve to claim he was reasonable. This was the second biggest joke Jiang Xue had heard all day.
“I—”
“Young Master Lin, I have nothing left to say to you. You can leave now.”
Lin Yulan reached for her hand. “But I don’t want to go.”
Jiang Xue immediately shook him off. “Don’t touch me! Haven’t I made myself clear? I said I don’t want to see you right now. Whatever you do is your business, it has nothing to do with me! Every second you stay in my sight, my eyes ache. We’re both adults, so please don’t act like a shameless rogue, Young Master Lin.”
“If being a rogue is what it takes, then so be it. I’m not leaving.”
“Lin Yulan, can’t you be reasonable for once?!”
Lin Yulan muttered, “You called me a rogue. If I don’t act like one, wouldn’t I be letting down the name?”
Jiang Xue: “You!”
Xia Yin was about to come out. If Lin Yulan stayed any longer, the fact that he and Jiang Xue were married would inevitably come to light.
Jiang Xue bit her lip, itching to slap him, but she held back partly because she feared Lin Yulan, the masochist, might enjoy it, and partly because she didn’t want to hurt her own hand.
But if she stayed, this bastard Lin Yulan wouldn’t leave. She couldn’t let Xia Yin find out about their relationship.
With no other choice, Jiang Xue clenched her teeth and decided to apologize to Xia Yin later. She turned and strode toward the exit alone.
Lin Yulan, like an eager puppy, trailed right behind her.
This scene was witnessed by Xia Yin, who had just stepped out of the restroom. Her eyes turned icy in an instant, but by the time she tried to chase after them, the crowd had already blocked her view, and the two soon disappeared.
Xia Yin could only call.
Buzz buzz buzz!
Jiang Xue felt her phone vibrate. She didn’t even need to check to know it was Xia Yin, who must have emerged from the restroom, found her missing, and was now calling.
“Hello, Xia Yin.”
Xia Yin didn’t directly say what she had just seen but instead asked, “Xiaoxue, I’m out now. Where are you?”
Jiang Xue hesitated for a long moment before reluctantly lying, “Xia Yin, something urgent came up, so I had to leave first. I’m sorry for leaving you alone. I’ll treat you to dinner next weekend!”
“…”
Xia Yin wanted to call her out right then, but she was afraid of embarrassing Jiang Xue. After wavering for a moment, she ultimately suppressed the thought and said, “It’s fine. Your own matters come first.”
Jiang Xue seemed to struggle with her words. Apart from apologizing, she didn’t know what else to say, she certainly couldn’t admit that it was because of that bastard Lin Yulan that she had no choice but to do this.
If she did, things would only become even more awkward.
There was another reason too: Jiang Xue didn’t want Lin Yulan and Xia Yin to meet. It wasn’t just about keeping Xia Yin from finding out she was already married to Lin Yulan. Knowing Lin Yulan as she did, if she let these two meet under these circumstances, they would definitely end up fighting. And if that bastard Lin Yulan got provoked into one of his rages, Xia Yin would inevitably bear the brunt of his fury.
With the Lin family’s status, Xia Yin wouldn’t stand a chance against them. Jiang Xue didn’t want an innocent person to suffer because of her.
“Thank you, Xia Yin.”
A faint, bitter smile tugged at Xia Yin’s lips. “No need to apologize. Urgent matters take priority. And… stop giving me ‘good person’ cards from now on. I’m not some kind of saint.”
Jiang Xue didn’t want to either, but apart from gratitude, she truly didn’t know what else to say. “It’s not a ‘good person’ card. The fault is entirely mine. Saying thank you is the least I can do.”
“Then… see you at school.”
“Yeah, see you at school.”
Jiang Xue guiltily hung up the phone, as if relieved but the moment she remembered Lin Yulan sticking to her like a piece of stubborn gum, that relief instantly evaporated into irritation.
Once she found a secluded spot, Jiang Xue stopped and turned around.
Lin Yulan braked to a halt behind her.
“Just how long are you planning to follow me? Lin Yulan, do you not understand human language?!”
“If you come back with me, I’ll stop.”
Jiang Xue was nearly driven mad by this infuriating Alpha. “Go back? Lin Yulan, I already told you I’ve let you go. You’re free to chase after whoever you want now, I won’t stop you. I’m begging you, just leave me alone, okay?”
Lin Yulan looked at her with pitiful eyes and said, “Then, if I leave you alone, can you at least give me a chance… to pursue you?”
If he’s already letting her go, what’s the point of giving him another chance?! Lin Yulan was clearly just being unreasonable!
Jiang Xue finally understood this bastard Alpha was utterly impossible to reason with. No matter how much she said, it would all be a waste of breath. “Lin Yulan, I know I can’t win against you. Your family has power and influence getting any Omega you want is as easy as snapping your fingers. But I’m begging you, stop pestering me, okay? Didn’t you wait for Qu Mengxin all those years? Then go back to waiting for her! Why do you have to fixate on me?!”
Lin Yulan didn’t know how to explain. He couldn’t tell Jiang Xue, Qu Mengxin doesn’t love me. I’ve known for a long time that I never meant anything to her, I was just lying to myself. But you… you’re the one worth chasing after.
No matter how he phrased it, it would just make him sound like a scumbag Alpha.
Moreover, in the current situation, Jiang Xue didn’t even want to hear her apology, let alone any explanations. In her eyes, the more he tried to explain, the more it would seem like an excuse only making things worse.
“I know I was a complete jerk before…” Lin Yulan raised his head and abruptly slapped himself hard across the face.
The sharp smack stunned Jiang Xue.
“What are you doing?!”
Lin Yulan slowly lowered his hand. “I know you can’t bring yourself to hit me, so this is my apology for all the terrible things I did to you before. I’m not trying to pressure you, I just want to say, if you’re still angry, you can hit me directly! As long as it helps you feel better, do whatever you want! But could you, please not divorce me? I’ll really change, I swear! Xiaoxue, give me a chance, okay?”
Jiang Xue was both furious and helpless. That slap had indeed been vicious, she could clearly see the redness blooming on Lin Yulan’s face. Though, part of it was because the swelling from her morning slap hadn’t fully subsided yet. Old injury plus new injury, no wonder it turned red so easily.
To Jiang Xue, this kind of behavior was nothing more than self-degradation, an attempt to win her sympathy. But the ridiculous thing was, the moment she saw Lin Yulan hit himself, she still felt a pang of softness in her heart…
“Give you a chance? What kind of chance? Another opportunity for you to trample me underfoot?” Jiang Xue pressed her lips together. “I’m not that pathetic.”
Lin Yulan ignored her resistance and pulled her into a tight embrace. “No, no! I swear, it won’t happen again! I’ll treat you twice as well from now on. If you’re unhappy, then I’ll be your punching bag hit me however you want, and I won’t complain at all!”
Jiang Xue shoved him away forcefully. “Don’t touch me! Who wants you as a punching bag? The best thing you could do is stay out of my sight. You can’t even manage such a simple request, and yet you claim you’ll treat me well? That’s complete bullshit!”
Shamelessly, Lin Yulan hugged her again, coaxing, “Yes, it’s bullshit. I’m a bastard, I wronged you so you can’t just let a bastard like me off the hook, right?”
At first glance, that logic almost made sense. But upon closer thought, it was utter nonsense!
Jiang Xue struggled a few times before driving her high heel hard into Lin Yulan’s foot.
Lin Yulan’s eyes instantly welled up with tears, forcing him to slowly release her. The pain was so intense that he had to crouch down and rub the spot where her heel had struck. “Xiaoxue, that was perfect, you should’ve stomped harder. Cripple me, and then you’d have to take care of me for the rest of your life.”
“In your dreams!” Jiang Xue was practically seething with rage, abandoning all restraint as words spilled out without thought. “Don’t worry, if you ever end up crippled, I’ll buy a giant banner to hang at the school entrance, celebrating with a banquet for the entire campus! As for now, I’m done here.”
With that, she turned and strode toward the school exit.
Lin Yulan ignored the pain, limping after her nearly tripping along the way. Luckily, a kind passerby steadied him, preventing a fall.
But Jiang Xue showed no intention of waiting. Instead, she walked faster and faster, quickly leaving the limping Lin Yulan behind.
Left with no choice, Lin Yulan could only call his assistant.
“Come pick me up over here, I sprained my ankle.”
The assistant thought to himself, how could someone sprain their ankle just from chasing after someone? What a ridiculous lie!
But as a competent subordinate, he would never dream of exposing his boss’s lie to their face. “Right away, Young Master Lin,” he replied.
After a moment’s thought, the assistant added, “Young Master Lin, I saw that female Alpha come out, but I didn’t see the young mistress.”
“Who cares if she came out? Why are you focused on her!”
“No, Young Master Lin, what I meant to say is… I know her.”
Lin Yulan: “What did you just say?!”
