The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 47
Lin Yulan stared at her for a while, momentarily at a loss for words. If Qu Mengxin had returned a little earlier before she knew Jiang Xue had feelings for her, or even earlier than that, she would have answered Qu Mengxin without hesitation: “As long as you come back, the place in my heart will always belong to you.”
But now, she was too disappointed in Qu Mengxin. The rose-tinted glasses of the past had unknowingly faded away. She was no longer that lovesick college student who acted recklessly without a second thought.
“Miss Asa, though you’ve just returned to the country, it shouldn’t be too late to say this now.”
A bad premonition crept into Qu Mengxin’s heart.
Then she heard Lin Yulan, as if boasting, curl her lips and say, “Miss Asa, I’m already married.”
“Yulan, what did you say?!”
“We got our marriage certificate at the end of last month.”
Though Lin Yulan wasn’t particularly eager to share this news with Qu Mengxin, she no longer wanted to hide her relationship with Jiang Xue. She wanted to openly declare to everyone that Jiang Xue was her Omega, her wife and anyone who dared covet her wife could go to hell!
Especially Jiang Xue’s ex!
“I originally wanted to tell you and invite you to the wedding banquet, but when I searched through my phone, I realized you’d already blocked and deleted me long ago.”
Qu Mengxin was incredulous, but more than that, she couldn’t accept it. Still, she hid it well, not making a scene or demanding answers. Instead, she forced a faint smile and said, “So the call you made earlier… was because something happened to your partner?”
Lin Yulan thought to herself, Something happened? More like my home is about to be stolen, all because of your ill-timed return!
But Lin Yulan knew Qu Mengxin hadn’t done it on purpose. After all, Qu Mengxin had no idea about any of this. She couldn’t direct her anger over such a coincidence at someone else, so she just brushed it off. “Oh, not really. It’s just that she’s an Omega wandering around alone at night. It’s not safe, so I was worried someone might try something. I had my assistant keep an eye on her.”
Worried that someone might target the esteemed young madam of the Lin family?
As an Alpha and the future heir of the Lin Group, Lin Yulan would never marry an Omega from an ordinary background. Her partner must be a young lady from a wealthy family perhaps not as prominent as the Lins or the Zhaos (she knew the Zhao family well and hadn’t heard of any Omega heirs being arranged for marriage), but still from a respectable background.
Given that, Lin Yulan’s concern seemed entirely unnecessary, making Qu Mengxin suspect she was either deliberately trying to upset her or simply using it as an excuse to push her away.
But judging by how Lin Yulan’s expression softened when mentioning the Omega she’d never met, it was likely the former. The more Qu Mengxin thought about it, the more displeased she felt.
“Is that so?” Qu Mengxin forced a smile. “The young madam of the Lin family would naturally be a future business partner of the Zhao Group. In that case, should I find time to greet this young madam?”
“No need!” Lin Yulan rejected Qu Mengxin without a second thought, hastily fabricating a string of lies. “My partner is quite shy and has some social anxiety. Most importantly, she really doesn’t like meeting strangers, especially since we used to be together. She’s very sensitive about that, so meeting up is unnecessary.”
Qu Mengxin saw right through Lin Yulan’s thoughts and didn’t hesitate to call her out. “Is it that you don’t want your wife to meet me, or that she doesn’t want to see me?”
Was her inner turmoil that obvious?
How could Qu Mengxin tell?!
But Lin Yulan absolutely refused to admit it. “No! My partner is just very reserved and doesn’t pay much attention to company affairs. My parents have said that if she doesn’t like managing the company, she can just focus on what she loves, and I’ll handle the rest.”
“So, your wife isn’t interested in company management at all?”
It took Lin Yulan a moment to realize Qu Mengxin was trying to probe for information about Jiang Xue through her. She quickly changed the subject. “Oh, not exactly. Regarding the project, I’ll have my secretary come in now. If we keep chatting about unrelated things and Director Zhao finds out I’ve delayed her employee’s work, she’ll complain to my parents, and I’ll be in trouble again.”
Qu Mengxin knew she couldn’t keep Lin Yulan any longer and didn’t press further, simply saying, “Seems like Young Master Lin cares deeply for his wife.”
Lin Yulan smiled without responding and turned to leave.
Watching Lin Yulan’s retreating figure, Qu Mengxin bit her lip hard. It wasn’t until the Lin Group’s secretary entered that she relaxed her expression, reverting to her earlier polite demeanor.
Meanwhile, the moment Lin Yulan left the company, she drove straight to the location her assistant had sent her.
At that moment, Jiang Xue and Xia Yin were shopping at a mall not far from the university.
Xia Yin’s confession at noon had left their relationship awkward, making it somewhat inappropriate for them to go shopping together. But Jiang Xue had spent the entire afternoon holed up in her dorm, thinking about the despicable things that Alpha Lin Yulan had done before she left. The more she dwelled on it, the more upset she became, crying all afternoon until her eyes were swollen. Realizing she couldn’t go on like this, she decided to go out alone to clear her mind.
As she left the campus, she ran into Xia Yin, who was also in a complicated mood. Since they’d bumped into each other, they ended up walking together.
“Did what I said at noon make you uncomfortable?” After about twenty minutes of walking, Xia Yin finally broke the silence.
Jiang Xue shook her head. “No. It’s good to say these things out loud. Keeping them bottled up isn’t healthy. Even if the other person doesn’t feel the same, at least they should know how you feel. Don’t you think?”
Xia Yin felt Jiang Xue was speaking to herself, but pressing further would likely lead to denial, so she let it go. “You’re right. Even if the other person doesn’t like you back, they should at least know someone has been silently loving them for so long. Professor Jiang, if I brought up what I said at noon again, would it annoy you?”
“I’m not annoyed, but Jiang Xue doesn’t want to talk about this topic.”
“We can discuss something else.”
“So, Professor Jiang, can’t you really consider me?”
Since she couldn’t be with that Alpha, why not give it a try with her?
“Xia Yin, I…”
Xia Yin sighed with a smile, “Sorry for putting you in a difficult position. But I really didn’t expect Professor Jiang to reject me so decisively.”
Jiang Xue looked at her, her eyes also filled with apology, “I never thought Professor Xia would take a liking to me either.”
Xia Yin stopped walking, turned around, and stared straight at Jiang Xue, “Why would you think I wouldn’t like you? I’m also an Alpha, no different from those others. Or is it that Professor Jiang still doesn’t realize how popular she is?”
This was something Jiang Xue genuinely didn’t know.
Her personality could be described as somewhat dull, she didn’t smile much, didn’t engage in much conversation, and preferred being alone. The times she spoke the most were probably during lectures with students or when leading school projects as the core responsible person, where she had to speak up.
Outside of these two scenarios, she hardly interacted with others at school.
Honestly, even Jiang Xue couldn’t bring herself to like someone with such a personality.
“I’m popular?”
“Yes!”
Jiang Xue laughed, “Xia Yin, I think you might be overestimating me. If I were truly popular, students wouldn’t take detours the moment they see me from three meters away.”
Xia Yin said, “Then has Professor Jiang ever considered another possibility?”
Jiang Xue looked at her slightly puzzled, “Another possibility?”
“Yes, another possibility.” Xia Yin analyzed for her, “They’re not children anymore, afraid at the sight of a teacher. Of course, some students might avoid you because you’re too strict. But I suspect most of them aren’t avoiding you due to strict teaching, they’re probably worried that if they stay too close to you, their little secret thoughts might be exposed.”
In front of someone they like, people can’t hide their affection. With just a little observation, you’d notice their whole body screaming, “I like you.”
Jiang Xue didn’t see it that way. She even thought Xia Yin was overthinking it. If it were as Xia Yin said, she would have noticed it by now.
“Professor Xia, I think you might be overanalyzing this.”
Xia Yin wasn’t surprised by Jiang Xue’s response, it was expected. After a long pause, she said very seriously, “Xiao Xue, in the four months I’ve known you, I’ve never seen you show any other expression toward anyone else.”
Jiang Xue didn’t understand what she meant.
Then she heard Xia Yin continue, “This version of you always gave me the illusion that you were like this with everyone. But whenever that Alpha is mentioned, you feel pain, you get angry, and when she smiles at me, you suddenly come alive.”
Hearing this, Jiang Xue froze. She hadn’t even noticed these details herself.
“It seems that Alpha is a very special existence to you.”
Jiang Xue immediately denied it, “Not at all.”
She had just misjudged her, that’s all.
“In that case, why not consider giving it a try with me?”
Xia Yin clearly hadn’t given up yet.
Just as Jiang Xue was about to say something, she looked up and spotted an all-too-familiar car not far behind them.
Looking closer, the person inside was even more familiar, that bastard Alpha actually had the nerve to keep following her! The kind of familiar that made her want to march over and slap him twice!
