The Alpha’s Hidden Marriage, Public Obsession - Chapter 41
Slap!
A crisp sound rang out without warning. Lin Yulan’s face instantly burned with a stinging pain. She slowly raised her head, her hand pressed to her cheek, her eyes looking pitiful.
But Jiang Xue remained unmoved. She felt Lin Yulan entirely deserved this, there was no need to hold back against someone who refused to listen.
“I told you don’t. Touch. Me!”
She had expected Lin Yulan to just apologize again or repeat the same excuses she didn’t want to hear. But the next second, Lin Yulan lowered her hand from her cheek and softly asked, “Are you… feeling better now?”
Huh?
“You could’ve hit me harder, actually. When my mom slapped me at the hotel, the mark stayed for a while. This one was a bit too light.”
Jiang Xue: “……”
Getting hit and thinking it wasn’t hard enough? Jiang Xue wondered if this Alpha had some kind of masochistic tendencies.
So not only had she failed to make Lin Yulan reflect, but she’d actually given her some twisted satisfaction?
Seeing Jiang Xue’s silence, Lin Yulan added, “My mom always taught me that if you make a mistake, you have to accept the punishment. This was my fault, so no matter how you hit me, I won’t fight back. If you still don’t feel satisfied, hit me harder keep going until you feel better!”
Jiang Xue thought, I’m not some kind of freak! If you hadn’t forced that kiss on me, I wouldn’t have hit you in the first place!
Besides, that slap had used up almost all her strength her palm still stung!
“I never knew Young Miss Lin had such unique tastes?”
Lin Yulan: “…”
“If you enjoy being hit so much, why not discuss it with that Omega? She’s clearly infatuated with you, I’m sure she wouldn’t refuse any request you make.”
“I don’t have any ‘unique tastes’!”
Lin Yulan hadn’t expected Jiang Xue to take it that way and hurriedly explained, “I just… wanted you to feel better. If you’re still angry, hit me as hard as you want here, I swear I won’t fight back!”
Jiang Xue didn’t know whether to feel angrier or just find the whole situation absurd. If there had been anyone else around the Lin residence, she would’ve dug a hole to hide in out of sheer embarrassment.
But she didn’t want to keep arguing with Lin Yulan here. If Lin Yulan was capable of forcing a kiss on her, Jiang Xue suspected that if she kept engaging, the next step might be getting physically dragged back into the Lin household.
She couldn’t deal with Lin Yulan she admitted defeat. If she couldn’t handle her, couldn’t she at least avoid her?
Ignoring Lin Yulan’s words, Jiang Xue turned and reached for the car door again.
But the moment she opened it, Lin Yulan darted past her and slid into the driver’s seat her seat.
“Lin Yulan!”
Unfazed, Lin Yulan replied calmly, “You wanted to go back to school, right? I’ll drive you.”
Jiang Xue was so furious she could’ve killed someone. “I don’t need you to drive me! Get out! I can drive myself, I can get back on my own!”
But Lin Yulan didn’t budge, instead speaking with shameless conviction. “I wronged you. Just think of this as giving me a chance to make amends. I really do want to change!”
Jiang Xue had never met someone so shameless. If trees could become spirits, they would surely bow to Lin Yulan as their master. “Whether you reform or not has nothing to do with me. What you choose to do is your own business, it’s none of my concern!”
“H-How can it have nothing to do with you?”
“What?”
Lin Yulan muttered weakly, “You’re my wife. It’s written in black and white on our marriage certificate.”
Jiang Xue was once again stunned by Lin Yulan’s audacity. She truly hadn’t expected her to be this shameless. She seriously wondered if she’d been kicked in the head by a donkey back then otherwise, what on earth had she seen in Lin Yulan?
Alright, fine. She admitted she was a sucker for looks.
But now, things were different.
Now, Lin Yulan’s face only made her want to punch something, and she saw no difference between it and the trash she’d thrown into the dumpster.
“Fine.”
Lin Yulan instantly had a bad feeling.
Then she watched as Jiang Xue turned and strode toward the main road she was even willing to abandon her own car just to hail a taxi back to school!
Lin Yulan didn’t have time to think. She immediately pushed the car door open, hurried after her, and grabbed her arm. “Don’t go. I won’t drive you anymore!”
Jiang Xue shook her off in disgust. “Let go!”
Lin Yulan could only withdraw her hand sheepishly, not daring to push further. “If you don’t want me to drive you, then I won’t!”
Jiang Xue’s expression made it clear she didn’t believe her. Lin Yulan knew she had zero credibility at this point, so she raised three fingers and swore, “I promise you from now on, if there’s anything you don’t want me to do, I won’t do it!”
Of course, some exceptions applied. Lin Yulan added silently in her heart.
“If I don’t want you to do something, you’ll actually stop?” Jiang Xue laughed mockingly. “Then what if I say I never want to see you again? Can Little President Lin manage that?!”
“…”
“See? You can’t even do that, yet you dare swear oaths?” Jiang Xue sneered. “If I believed you could keep a promise, pigs would fly!”
Anyone else would have been mortified by now, but Lin Yulan had been born with a thick skin in this regard and felt no shame whatsoever. “But… pigs can climb trees in real life…”
“You!”
Jiang Xue was certain that if she kept talking to Lin Yulan, she’d be the first one to die of rage. So, she decided to say nothing more and turned to walk away again.
Lin Yulan quickly grabbed her. “Xiaoxue, anything but this and divorce. I can promise you anything else! Can’t you, give me one more chance?”
Had she not given Lin Yulan enough chances already?!
On the day they got their marriage certificate, she had been so happy, so full of hope. She’d even worried they might not love each other enough, but as long as they were married, they’d be bound for life Lin Yulan would never be able to leave her. But upon reflection, if that were the case, they’d be stuck in mutual resentment forever, worse off than those in arranged marriages. Lin Yulan might never mark her, and she’d have to endure the torment of her heats alone for the rest of her life. In the end, she’d be the one suffering the most.
So she had given Lin Yulan one last chance to choose.
If Lin Yulan had outright refused or shown even the slightest reluctance to get married, Jiang Xue would have let go immediately. She would have turned back to explain to Ming Zelan that perhaps forcing them together wasn’t the right choice.
Then there was the postnuptial agreement.
She had given Lin Yulan a second chance.
Though furious and heartbroken at the time, Jiang Xue had still convinced herself that none of this was Lin Yulan’s fault, she bore half the responsibility for the marriage certificate. As long as Lin Yulan was honest with her, even if she disliked or resented her, Jiang Xue would have accepted the postnuptial agreement.
But Lin Yulan had squandered that opportunity, choosing instead to justify her lies.
As the saying goes, three strikes and you’re out. Since Lin Yulan hadn’t cherished the chances given, it proved that in her heart, Jiang Xue was no different from the bystanders not worth a second thought.
Then there was no need for them to keep dragging this out.
“Xiao Lin,” Jiang Xue cut her off the moment Lin Yulan tried to speak, “I don’t think there’s any point between us. This is just a waste of time for both of us. A divorce would be best for everyone. That way, you can keep waiting for your ‘white moonlight’ or have fun with other Omegas surely that’s better than being stuck with a wife you despise.”
The moment those words left her mouth, Lin Yulan immediately thought of Jiang Xue’s ex-Alpha girlfriend, Xia Yin, and her expression darkened instantly.
“You want a divorce so you can go back to her?!” Lin Yulan stepped forward, gripping Jiang Xue’s shoulders tightly. “You can’t go back to her! She, she has violent tendencies! She even threatened me!”
Jiang Xue was stunned by this outburst. Go back to who? Since when did she plan to go back to anyone after the divorce? Besides, from school until now, Lin Yulan was the only Alpha she had ever liked she had no interest in anyone else.
And Lin Yulan being threatened? That had to be the biggest joke Jiang Xue had ever heard. With the Lin family’s status, it was far more likely that Lin Yulan was the one threatening others!
“Let go of me!”
But Lin Yulan didn’t budge, continuing her tirade. “Xue, don’t go back to her. She’ll never treat you well she just wants to own you!”
Jiang Xue suddenly laughed. “She won’t treat me well, but you will? Xiao Lin, before saying that, maybe you should ask yourself if you even have the right to.”
Lin Yulan had no retort.
She was right.
She didn’t.
Xia Yin had violent tendencies and would never treat Jiang Xue well but what about her? Aside from never laying a hand on her, the words she had spoken were more venomous than a snake’s bite. What was the difference between that kind of emotional abuse and Xia Yin’s violence?
“I’m sorry, I—”
“You what?” Jiang Xue sneered. “Let me guess what you were going to say, Xiao Lin. ‘I never thought I’d end up liking Jiang Xue,’ or ‘I never expected to be interested in her if I’d known, I wouldn’t have said those things.’ Right?”
Without waiting for Lin Yulan’s response, Jiang Xue shoved her away. “Let me repeat myself, I’ve made my stance clear. Whether you understand it or not, I won’t change my mind. We’re both adults, and I hope you’ll stop acting like a childish brat.”
After speaking, Jiang Xue didn’t head toward her own car.
This time, Lin Yulan didn’t follow her. Jiang Xue glanced in the rearview mirror, stepped on the gas, and drove off without hesitation.
Originally, she had planned to go straight back to her dorm. After being entangled with Lin Yulan all day, Jiang Xue truly felt exhausted, all she wanted was some peace and quiet to sleep alone.
But just as she was about to drive through the school gates, she happened to run into Xia Yin, who was on her way out.
Perhaps that bastard Lin Yulan had kissed her too forcefully her lips were slightly red and swollen. Xia Yin noticed it immediately and frowned before asking, “Xiao Xue, you had a date today?”
