The Alpha’s Breakup Scheme - Chapter 5
Jiang Shixue’s expression was one of utter shock, doubting whether her ears had deceived her. “I… you… no, it doesn’t really have to be like this…”
“Are you unwilling?” Wen Fei’s smile retracted, her face darkening. The sharp, chilling edge between her brows was somewhat intimidating.
With a cold face and without pausing her movements, Wen Fei speared a piece of strawberry. She brought the half-cut berry to Jiang Shixue’s lips once more.
Wen Fei’s aura was already naturally frightening; when she truly soured her expression, it was enough to make anyone flinch.
Thinking of Wen Fei’s terrifying reputation within the Empire—the kind that made people tremble at the mention of her name—Jiang Shixue felt her heart shudder. The words she originally intended to say got stuck in her throat; she didn’t quite dare to refuse.
Almost out of a survival instinct, Jiang Shixue braced herself and spoke while eating: “Ha, haha, chew chew, you… you’re overthinking it, chew chew.”
The chilled strawberry felt like a branding iron at that moment, scalding her mouth.
The tension in Wen Fei’s brow relaxed slightly. “Is that so?”
She gently stroked Jiang Shixue’s face, her tone and attitude difficult to read. “I knew it. You aren’t the kind of little Beta who only talks about taking responsibility but refuses to take any actual action—the kind who wouldn’t even shoulder a public title.”
Jiang Shixue felt embarrassed by the words, but more than that, she was dazed. She gave a dry laugh. “I… of course I’m not, haha…”
Wen Fei nodded, seemingly satisfied. “Mm.”
Jiang Shixue’s brain stalled, and she continued to eat the strawberries in a daze. It wasn’t until the last strawberry on the plate was gone that she realized something in hindsight:
“Wait, how do you know I’m a Beta?”
“Did you check my files at school?”
The corners of Wen Fei’s lips curled slightly. “Coincidentally, while supervising attendance, I came across a certain bad child who skipped class.”
“Department of Oil Painting, Class Three. Student Jiang Shixue, absent from the History of Oil Painting Art lecture.”
Jiang Shixue stammered, “That, well…”
Wen Fei had enjoyed Jiang Shixue’s distressed expression enough. Her gaze lingered over Jiang Shixue’s furrowed brows and trembling eyelashes before she slowly offered an explanation on her behalf:
“I imagine my serious and responsible girlfriend wouldn’t skip class for no reason. It must have been an early rut, and there wasn’t enough time to request leave.”
“Right,” Jiang Shixue hurriedly took the metaphorical ladder offered to her. “That’s exactly it. You hit the nail on the head.”
The “certain serious and responsible girlfriend” looked at Wen Fei, and Wen Fei looked back, as if she couldn’t see enough of her. Jiang Shixue couldn’t handle it; she wanted to escape that overly direct gaze.
She tried to get up from the chair. However, the moment she stood, her legs went weak, and she slumped back down.
“Careful.”
Wen Fei’s scent drew closer. Jiang Shixue’s legs felt like jelly as Wen Fei hooked an arm around her waist, scooping her into her embrace.
Dizzy and lightheaded, Jiang Shixue felt herself being carried to the bed. The soft mattress welcomed her.
Wen Fei’s deep voice soothed her from beside her. “Your rut is very chaotic. If you’re uncomfortable, rest a while longer.”
Under Wen Fei’s comfort, Jiang Shixue fell into a hazy sleep.
When she woke up again, Jiang Shixue was still in bed. She sat there blankly for a long while before realizing she was in Wen Fei’s bedroom.
Her light-brain vibrated twice. Jiang Shixue tapped to check the messages. It was Lin Yin, asking with concern if everything was alright.
[Are you okay? Where are you now?] [Jiang Shixue, say something!] [Beep beep.] [Reply if you’re alive.]
Jiang Shixue scrolled up through the chat history. Her last reply to Lin Yin was from the morning, asking if her identity had been exposed.
My Mental State is Great: [Lin Yin, did anyone find out I’m actually an Alpha?] Who Even Wants This Damn Romance: [Probably not. Wen Fei’s pheromones were practically everywhere back then. Most people couldn’t smell your scent.] Who Even Wants This Damn Romance: [Her pheromones almost completely covered yours.] Who Even Wants This Damn Romance: [How are you now? Is your body feeling better?]
Jiang Shixue remembered now; she had only chatted briefly with Lin Yin in the morning, solely focused on her identity and forgetting to report that she was safe.
She quickly replied.
[I’m doing pretty well now.] [I had a bit of a fever, but luckily Principal Wen took great care of me. I’m much better now.]
Seeing this message, Lin Yin’s heart finally settled.
[Great! That’s good then! I won’t worry anymore.] [So, when are you coming back?]
Thinking of the current situation, Jiang Shixue rubbed her temples with a headache.
[Hard to say. I’ve run into a bit of a situation.]
Almost as soon as the message was sent, Lin Yin replied. The speed was so fast she was clearly camping on the chat.
[?] [Jiang Shixue, why are you talking in cliffhangers?!!] [Quick, tell me exactly what happened??]
Jiang Shixue figured that her “dating” Wen Fei would eventually become common knowledge, and Lin Yin would find out sooner or later. There was no point in hiding it.
She scratched her head and sent the message.
[This situation is a bit troublesome…] [I’ve become Wen Fei’s girlfriend.]
…
The other side went as silent as a grave. Her roommate Lin Yin was quiet for nearly five minutes before a message finally came through:
[Are you serious? No joking allowed.]
Jiang Shixue replied instantly:
[Serious.] [I wouldn’t lie to you.]
On the other end of the screen, Lin Yin’s mouth hung open in shock.
[Jiang Shixue, are you crazy??] [How many times have I told you? They’re all just after your body! You absolutely cannot fall for it!] [How could you start dating???] [Dating is the worst thing in the world aaaaaahhh!!] [Marmot Screaming.jpg]
My Mental State is Great: [Uh, please calm down.]
[I can’t be calm!!] [Wen Fei looks all decent and proper, but she’s actually after your body too!]
Jiang Shixue felt something wasn’t quite right. She thought for a while before replying:
[You can’t really put it that way.] [Actually, I’m at fault too. I forcibly kissed an Omega, so I should take responsibility for her.] [Being her girlfriend is also just to handle the public opinion.] [Think about it—it wouldn’t be good for the Principal to be an Omega who was casually toyed with and then left without even a title.]
Looking at Jiang Shixue’s reply, Lin Yin was frustrated that her friend wasn’t living up to expectations.
[Jiang Shixue! Think about it! If you’re in a relationship, you’ll be played with every day until your waist is sore and your back aches! You’ll have strawberry marks all over that you can’t even hide! How terrible is that!] [Or even worse, you’ll become a sex toy with no freedom of your own.] [Just thinking about it is terrifying aaaaaah!] [Especially since the Principal is so powerful.] [Once you’re with her, if she gets the urge while you’re in class and wants to “be intimate,” you won’t be able to resist.] [You’ll be in class, breaking down while trying to endure it!] [Ahhh, what a depraved and tragic life!]
Jiang Shixue hesitated. While that sounded intense… would that really happen between her and Wen Fei?
Seeing no reply, Lin Yin continued:
[Jiang Shixue, oh my god, are you okay right now??] [Think back—has anything like that happened to you in the last two days??] [You’re so innocent, and the Principal is so experienced.] [Don’t let her trick you!!]
Jiang Shixue’s mouth twitched at the long paragraph. She carefully considered the question. Thinking about how Wen Fei had handled her yesterday after she fainted—stripping her bare and dressing her like a doll—Jiang Shixue’s cheeks burned red.
She felt incredibly mortified, even though the overall experience hadn’t been… bad.
She replied to Lin Yin:
[I really haven’t ever been in a relationship before.]
Whether it was her past self or her current self, she had zero experience. Dating was truly in her blind spot of knowledge.
[Is this kind of thing really that bad?]
Lin Yin let out a long sigh of relief upon seeing the message. At least Jiang Shixue hadn’t been blinded by love just yet.
Lin Yin spoke earnestly:
[Jiang Shixue, luckily you’re not a total love-brain yet.] [Break up with Wen Fei quickly!]
Jiang Shixue looked at the message, feeling hesitant.
[But is it okay to break up when we’ve been together for less than a day?] [Even if I’m a “salted fish,” I can’t be a scumbag fish who forcibly kisses someone and then refuses to take responsibility…]
Lin Yin replied:
[Don’t think like that! Don’t consume yourself with guilt! Direct that energy outward! aaaaaah!] [Be ruthless! Cut the knot!] [Before you sink too deep, break up now!]
Jiang Shixue thought about being with Wen Fei and living the kind of life Lin Yin described… Honestly, she didn’t hate it. But thinking about a “wolf-like” Wen Fei made her face flush again.
She pondered for a moment.
[Don’t worry, Lin Yin.] [I’ll try.]
Putting down her light-brain, Jiang Shixue stood up. She needed to find Wen Fei. She searched all over the house but couldn’t find her, so she called out tentatively:
“Wen Fei? Wen Fei?” Her voice echoed in the empty rooms.
“Hey, Butler? Vacuum robot? Smart curtains?”
“What’s going on? Is the voice activation not working?”
“Can anyone just respond to me?”
After a few shouts, she finally heard Wen Fei’s response.
“Come to the study.”
Jiang Shixue followed the sound, walking quickly through the hallway to the study door. The moment she pushed it open, she saw Wen Fei curled up on a small sofa in the corner. The curtains were half-drawn, with a few rays of sunlight filtering through the gaps and landing on her.
Wen Fei was wearing a set of soft, comfortable cream-colored loungewear. Beside her lay Jiang Shixue’s white dress, its hem slightly wrinkled as if it had been idly handled.
Wen Fei leaned her head back against the sofa and looked back at Jiang Shixue, her forehead damp with cold sweat.
“Uh…”
Jiang Shixue stood at the door. Seeing this scene, the words she had prepared got stuck in her throat. She couldn’t help but feel a flicker of pity.
After all, this fragile person before her was the famous, awe-inspiring “Cold-Blooded Meat Grinder” of the military. Who would have thought that back at home, she would be so tormented by pheromones that she was instinctively beginning to “nest”?
Sensing Jiang Shixue’s entrance, Wen Fei’s lowered eyes trembled slightly, but she remained silent.
“Wen Fei, I have something to… ah…”
Caught off guard, Jiang Shixue was pushed down in an unexpected way. She fell backward into the soft sofa, letting out a short gasp.
“Mark me.”
Wen Fei leaned over, one hand pressing down on Jiang Shixue’s shoulder, her words clear. She offered her neck to Jiang Shixue’s lips.
Jiang Shixue looked at Wen Fei’s neck—originally fair and delicate, but now the gland area was a mess of red marks. On top of those were the tooth marks Jiang Shixue had left yesterday.
It looked painful.
Jiang Shixue felt another pang of pity. Her conscience was starting to ache. Yesterday, she had both forcibly kissed and marked Wen Fei, and now she was planning to reject being with her…
However, Jiang Shixue steeled her heart. She pushed Wen Fei’s gland away and forced out the words she had planned:
“Wen Fei, I don’t think we’re suited for each other. You deserve someone better. I’m not good enough for you.”
What a textbook “scumbag” line.
Wen Fei looked at Jiang Shixue, her eyes very clear. She reached out to grab Jiang Shixue’s hand—the one pressing against her gland—and furrowed her brows, squeezing out a single syllable with difficulty: “Hurts.”
Seeing this, Jiang Shixue’s heart tightened. Her conscience was now in full-blown pain. She remembered how, when she was feeling miserable, Wen Fei had patiently fed her medicine and water, taking care of her meticulously. Yet here Wen Fei was, suffering, and she was plotting a heartless breakup.
While she was conflicted, Wen Fei raised her palm and lightly covered the back of Jiang Shixue’s hand. Her head lowered slightly, her voice muffled as she spoke:
“You are the first person to ever mark me.”
As she spoke, Wen Fei bit her lower lip, looking like she wanted to say more but was holding back. Her voice trembled slightly.
“The first mark… it hurts so much.”
“I feel so bad.”
“Can you give me a bit more pheromones?”
Looking at Wen Fei’s pained and restrained expression, Jiang Shixue thought to herself: I really am terrible!
She had actually driven this iron-willed woman to the point of trembling! It would be too much to mention breaking up right now!
Jiang Shixue pursed her lips and forced out two words: “I can.”
Suppressing a smile, Wen Fei moved her gland closer. Jiang Shixue could no longer restrain her instincts. Her sharp canine teeth pierced Wen Fei’s swollen gland.
