- Chapter 17 - Sour Beyond Measure
Jiang Shixue laughed even more joyfully.
She poked Wen Fei’s arm, a bright smile appearing on her cute face. “Alright, alright, since you feel that way, I won’t call you ‘Wife’ anymore.”
Looking at Wen Fei’s somewhat serious and earnest expression, Jiang Shixue found it hilarious. Having been cared for like a child by Wen Fei lately, a sense of childish mischief had truly begun to grow within her. Caught up in the fun, she purposefully drawled out her words: “Then I’ll call you—Old Fogey—how about that?”
“Hmm?” Hearing this, Wen Fei’s brow furrowed.
Was Jiang Shixue unhappy because she had linked the word “Wife” to “Marriage”?
Wen Fei said somewhat dryly, “I don’t think that’s very good.”
Meeting Jiang Shixue’s gaze, the tension in Wen Fei’s brow quickly smoothed out, though her eyes flickered to the side. “I believe a nickname should be a word with positive significance, don’t you think?”
Jiang Shixue watched the slight shadow cast by Wen Fei’s lowered brow over her deep-set eyes; seeing her still feigning a cooperative, negotiable manner made Jiang Shixue find it even funnier.
“Oh, this isn’t good, that isn’t good…”
Jiang Shixue put on a slightly aggrieved look.
“Then let’s change it again. How about simply calling you ‘Baby’?”
After Jiang Shixue said it, seeing Wen Fei’s still-hesitant expression, a sense of shame also arose in her heart due to the overly intimate nature of the term “Baby.”
A thin blush stained Jiang Shixue’s cheeks, yet she remained aggressively persistent, bluffing her way through: “What’s wrong? You won’t even agree to this? Do you still like me or not?”
Wen Fei watched Jiang Shixue as she tilted her head slightly toward her. Her pale gold hair had been tied into a high ponytail by Wen Fei’s own hands; it draped from the side of her fluffy little head down to her shoulder, the ends curling slightly and rubbing gently against her collarbone with every small movement. Wen Fei felt another wave of indescribable heat rising in her chest, and her lips felt dry.
Wen Fei pursed her lips.
Before she could speak, she suddenly felt a warm sensation on her mouth.
A finger, somewhat hot to the touch, was placed against Wen Fei’s lips. The pale pink fingerprint on the fingertip looked suggestively tender.
Wen Fei stared at Jiang Shixue.
Jiang Shixue’s cheeks were flushed, but her aura was not weak at all as she clamored and acted spoiled: “This is a girlfriend’s order! You’re not allowed to refuse!”
Wen Fei looked at her, grasped Jiang Shixue’s wrist, moved the finger away, and gave a low “Mm.”
An inexplicable sense of emptiness rose in Wen Fei’s heart, a strange feeling quietly spreading.
So, Jiang Shixue doesn’t actually have any thoughts of marrying me right now?
Jiang Shixue let her smile fade, took her light-brain, and quite seriously changed the note for “Wife” to “Baby.”
After finishing the change, Jiang Shixue stuffed the light-brain back into Wen Fei’s hand and tilted her chin up triumphantly, signaling that Wen Fei had to change her contact note as well.
A touch of softness appeared in Wen Fei’s deep eyes as she changed the note from “Little Sister” to “Baby.”
Once finished, Wen Fei handed the light-brain to Jiang Shixue for inspection.
Seeing Jiang Shixue nod with satisfaction, the corners of Wen Fei’s lips hooked up slightly as she softly murmured: “Ba…by?”
The Amusement Park
The tickets “Baby” had booked were for the afternoon. After the two had lunch, Wen Fei coaxed Jiang Shixue into taking a nap.
Wen Fei watched the time, and once she calculated that Jiang Shixue had slept enough, she woke her up.
The aircraft parked outside the amusement park, and Wen Fei and Jiang Shixue went to check their tickets at the entrance.
Once a general admission ticket was booked, individual attractions inside—like the haunted house—could be visited freely without extra payment. Consequently, there was a long line of tourists waiting at the entrance.
Furthermore, the “Female Ghost” NPC of this particular haunted house was extremely popular on the Star Net. At least half of the people coming to the park were there specifically for this “Internet-famous” haunted house, so the queue was quite substantial.
As they stood in line, the sun was a bit strong. Wen Fei placed her hat on Jiang Shixue’s head and stood on the outer side of the queue herself to block the sun for her.
Jiang Shixue, wearing a light blue puff-sleeve short dress and Wen Fei’s hat, stood quietly and obediently in the sunlight. She looked as if she were wrapped in a thin layer of mist, carrying a faint air of detachment.
Wen Fei thought to herself: The little one still keeps up her appearances in public.
She even missed the way Jiang Shixue used to cling to her like a koala, unceremoniously wrapping her arms around Wen Fei’s neck.
Wen Fei looked at Jiang Shixue, feeling a bit depressed. She felt as though she was being slightly neglected by Jiang Shixue now that they were out in the world.
Did I do something wrong? Is she sulking?
Wen Fei carefully calculated in her mind. Is she angry because I didn’t let her “pinch” me earlier?
Jiang Shixue listlessly scrolled through the Star Net, waiting for the crowd ahead to move forward.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out in the surrounding crowd. Amidst the rising clamor, it seemed her own name was being mentioned?
Jiang Shixue looked up in confusion toward the source of the disturbance.
A tall figure squeezed through the crowd, speaking enthusiastically to her: “Shixue? Why didn’t you tell me you were coming here?”
“Come on, come on, stop waiting in line. Isn’t it cramped? I’ll open the VIP passage for you. A friend of mine owns this park.”
The newcomer was tall with well-defined muscle lines, matching the figure in Jiang Shixue’s memory.
Jiang Shixue remembered this person. It was Xi Rui, the teacher in charge of teaching Physical Combat in the Oil Painting department—a tall, dashing, playboy Alpha who was very interested in her.
Jiang Shixue didn’t want much interaction with her, so she habitually put on a polite smile and tactfully refused: “That wouldn’t be right; it’s too much trouble for you.”
As a highly popular person, Jiang Shixue received many advances; she had become quite skilled at declining them.
Watching Jiang Shixue refuse, an imperceptible look of infatuation flashed in Xi Rui’s eyes.
Then, without taking no for an answer, she reached out to put an arm around Jiang Shixue’s shoulder, shouting: “Why be so formal with me? Come on!”
But halfway through her reach, her hand was seized, rendering her unable to move.
“Uh?!…”
Xi Rui was startled. A slender, powerful hand was clamped around her wrist, firmly stopping her movement.
Xi Rui looked up with difficulty and met Wen Fei’s peach-blossom eyes. The gaze was cool and somewhat terrifying.
Xi Rui clearly recognized the Principal of A-University. Even though Xi Rui was a playboy Alpha who had only become a teacher through family connections, she knew who the principal was.
“This…” Upon seeing Wen Fei, Xi Rui instantly withered.
She stammered: “Prin… Principal? I—I didn’t mean anything by it. Since we knew each other, I just wanted to make things easier.”
Xi Rui tried to pull her hand back, but she was held fast by Wen Fei. Wen Fei wore a thin pair of black leather gloves; the strength of her grip was so great that Xi Rui felt the bones in her wrist begin to ache.
Wen Fei glanced at Xi Rui coldly. She had caught a glimpse of something sinister clutched in Xi Rui’s hand.
With a surge of irritation, Wen Fei’s expression remained calm, but she couldn’t help but add more pressure to her grip.
“If my girlfriend wants to take the VIP passage, I will provide it for her.”
Wen Fei placed a heavy emphasis on the word “girlfriend.”
After speaking, she flung Xi Rui’s hand away.
Xi Rui’s wrist throbbed with pain, but given Wen Fei’s status, she had to endure it. She spoke obsequiously: “Yes, yes, you’re right, Principal. You two enjoy yourselves, I won’t disturb you. I’m leaving now.”
The Secret Guardian
Wen Fei knew Jiang Shixue was popular, but only now did she have a tangible sense of it.
She had clearly seen a mini-tracker in that Alpha’s hand!
That kind of tracker possessed both tracking and recording functions; it generally wasn’t available to the public. She didn’t know which shady black market that “damp and dark” Alpha had bought it from.
If she hadn’t stopped her just now, that Alpha likely intended to use the gesture of putting an arm around her shoulder to secretly hide it in the folds of Jiang Shixue’s puff sleeves, right?
She didn’t want to point it out directly only because she feared frightening Jiang Shixue or ruining her good mood. But that didn’t mean she wasn’t angry.
A deep flicker of displeasure passed through Wen Fei’s eyes as she surveyed the surroundings with a trace of suppressed rage.
Like a leopard radiating a dangerous aura, she subtly sized up everyone who might be coveting Jiang Shixue.
Jiang Shixue was beautiful, cute, kind, young, and extremely popular; it was only natural she would be stalked by perverts with “damp and dark” tendencies. But such a person with twisted fetishes was absolutely unworthy of Jiang Shixue!
If such a person were with Jiang Shixue, they could never guide her toward a healthy view of love.
Jiang Shixue had done nothing wrong. However, if she were allowed to be snatched around like a beautiful doll, it would be Wen Fei’s own failure.
Wen Fei absolutely could not allow such a thing to happen! It seemed necessary to take some action in the future.
The surrounding crowd fell silent for a moment following Wen Fei’s actions, but then an even greater clamor erupted.
A red-haired girl carrying a vintage camera was squeezed over to Jiang Shixue’s side, looking excited. “My god! I’m actually seeing you in person? Are you—are you two really together?”
The red-haired girl looked at Jiang Shixue, then cautiously pointed at Wen Fei, her expression agitated.
Jiang Shixue recognized her. It was Ming Mengmei, the president of the Journalism Club. She was an active poster on the forums under her real name and had many trending threads; she was considered an industry benchmark by Jiang Shixue’s fame-hungry roommate, Lin Yin.
Tired of being approached by so many people, Jiang Shixue nodded and gave a weary smile, her dimples appearing briefly. “Mm.”
Inside, the Perfect Department Flower’s “Little Salted Fish” persona grumbled: If I had arranged the schedule myself as a regular student, I’d have to wait in line honestly and couldn’t avoid being talked to.
The “Little Salted Fish” unreasonably complained about her girlfriend who usually pampered her: If I’d known, I would have let Wen Fei arrange the trip so we could just use the VIP passage.
Ming Mengmei seemed to think of something; her expression turned worried. She pointed at Wen Fei, then at Jiang Shixue, and lowered her voice: “You aren’t in that kind of relationship from the forums, are you?”
The forums were currently debating heatedly: Has the Department Flower become the exclusive plaything of the brutal and ruthless new Principal?
A faint, sweet smile appeared on Jiang Shixue’s face as she shook her head, indicating they weren’t in that kind of relationship.
“Ah! I see…” Ming Mengmei was excited.
She wanted to say more, but the line had reached Jiang Shixue. As Jiang Shixue went to check her ticket, Ming Mengmei had to stop.
When Ming Mengmei turned around, she happened to meet Wen Fei’s cold, sharp eyes.
Wen Fei’s gaze was icy and dangerous, as if warning anyone—Jiang Shixue was absolutely not to be coveted.
Ming Mengmei was startled by Wen Fei’s look.
Fierce! So fierce! Just as fierce as the rumors on the forum!
A thought rose in Ming Mengmei’s heart: Could it be… the Department Flower really has become the Principal’s exclusive prisoner?
Ming Mengmei fell into deep thought.
The beautiful and kind-hearted Department Flower is likely being controlled right now by a dark person with special fetishes, living a life of misery!
No, I can’t just leave. As a brave, selfless, truth-seeking Journalism President, I must investigate to the end!
Jiang Shixue and Wen Fei entered the haunted house.
The exterior was designed to look dilapidated, like an abandoned mansion from the old world. Once inside, they found that the props and NPCs used to scare people were quite crude—only at the level of scaring children.
Wen Fei walked in front. she didn’t feel much immersion in the scene. Much of her attention was focused on the “tail” following behind them.
Is it that red-haired girl who talked to Shixue earlier?
Damn it.
Was she overthinking, or… was this another perverted, “damp and dark” stalker?
