The Aloof Master Relies on This Cat's Kisses to Survive - Chapter 2
Such Persistent Pestering!
The fragrance of flowers rushed into her nostrils, and that faint, indiscernible hint of spice took the opportunity to mingle in.
Simultaneously drilling into Ji Wu’s senses was a soft murmur lingering by her ear.
Beneath her was a warm, soft fine down; every inch she moved brought a slight itch, yet someone held her firmly, preventing her from moving, while simultaneously urging her into an uncontrollable tremble.
This sensation of losing decorum and propriety was truly embarrassing for Ji Wu.
It won’t do, I cannot make such chaotic attempts again…
She was Dongfang Ji Wu, the founder of the Xuanling Sect, not some spring-smitten young girl lost in delusions.
But.
But the palm pressed against the side of her waist was truly seductive; every rub of that boneless, soft warmth made Ji Wu nearly cry out.
It was a dream—the dream from just now—the phantom vision Ji Wu had sworn she would never enter again.
“Don’t get distracted.”
The fingertip that had been lightly stroking her cheek pinched her chin. Ji Wu was forced to lift her face and meet those heterochromatic eyes.
Ming Xi’s eyes never stayed one color, yet they were so clear they could make any unspeakable desire appear as a poor attempt at concealment.
“Only look at me, alright, Master~”
Looking at… whom?
The self-proclaimed cold and austere Grandmaster saw herself reflected in those pupils.
She saw clearly how she was drowning under such decadent indulgence. The shackles around her waist tightened further; a sense of pleasure climbed up the fertile snow following the teasing touches. She heard a frivolous murmur escape from the gaps of her own lips.
Startled into a sudden shock, Ji Wu—who had nearly fallen back into the Dream Court—finally regained her consciousness. Her reaching long fingers halted atop that restless tail fur, barely stopping the movement.
At the same time, Ming Xi lifted her head, retracted her tail before Ji Wu could touch her, and leaped off the bed.
All was silent, leaving only the sound of heartbeats and the rain.
Sough, sough, sough.
It really was raining.
Ming Xi wanted to close the window; she hated the rain.
However, a gust of wind suddenly blew in, reckless and headlong, much like how she had broken into the room earlier.
Ming Xi shrank her neck, turned around, hopped back onto the bed, and slithered under the covers with a whoosh.
Ji Wu, who had just calmed her mind, was suddenly flustered again. “What are you doing!”
A soft mound arched up beneath the mattress. Ming Xi’s body seemed to have no bones as she pressed against Ji Wu and climbed upward. “Master, it’s raining.”
“If it rains, let it rain. Why are you coming up here? Get out quickly!” For a moment, Ji Wu was in disarray, so panicked she actually couldn’t push away the person on top of her, allowing Ming Xi to overlap her in a snug embrace.
The rebellious beast raised her head from under the quilt, frowned, and said with a serious face: “I hate the rain.”
Her expression was quite solemn, but her hair was a mess, with several strands sticking out impolitely, rubbing against the inside of Ji Wu’s collar and making her itch.
“You are inside the house, you won’t get hit by a single drop. Why must you run here to hide?” Ji Wu had lost the initiative just now; pinned down by Ming Xi, she couldn’t break free.
She could have simply thrown her out with force, but…
But constantly resorting to violence was beneath her status!
“Master, close the window. It’s quite cold.” Ming Xi’s hand tugged at a corner of the quilt, pulling it toward Ji Wu’s shoulder. “In this weather, Master’s body is weak; how can you sleep with the window open? Truly willful.”
“How is it me not closing the window?” Ji Wu was stunned.
It was this rebellious beast who refused to use the door and insisted on jumping through the window, yet now she was asking Ji Wu why it wasn’t closed?
“Then it must be me.” She took it well, using a tone as if she wasn’t going to hold it against Ji Wu. She then coaxed, “Master, close it. The rain is getting louder.”
Ming Xi hated the rain, and even listening to it was annoying.
“Why must the window be closed? What are you trying to do!” Ji Wu moved slightly, her pinned arm rubbing against the curve of Ming Xi’s waist.
The scratch felt good to Ming Xi, and she regained some of her playfulness, teasing back: “The rain is splashing in, it’s chilly. Isn’t it right to close it? Where did Master’s mind go? What does Master want Ming Xi to do?”
After asking, she leaned even further toward Ji Wu, insisting on piling her entire cat-self onto the other woman.
“Stop this nonsense. Get up and close it yourself.” Ji Wu was naturally displeased. “And do not rest here; this is my bed.”
“Can’t Master just point a finger to close it? Why bother making Ming Xi move?” She gave a lazy yawn and even closed her eyes, looking as if she truly intended to rest like this. She murmured softly, “Ming Xi doesn’t like the rain. Hearing it makes my legs soft. I can’t move.”
“…How could I point?” Ji Wu felt stifled.
Because of the awakening of this evil creature, she had suffered a backlash and had been unable to gather spiritual energy or perform techniques for several days. Even her physical strength had weakened significantly. While she was brooding over this, Ming Xi actually dared to mention it.
“See? Master knows it’s inconvenient now.” Ming Xi opened her eyes, smiling mischievously. “I told you the comfort in dreams isn’t enough.”
Ming Xi was a Dream Beast, so she could benefit in the Dream Court. Because Ji Wu was bound by a contract to her, she could also share some spiritual grace, but that was merely a drop in the bucket. She was ultimately human, and the injuries on a human body could only be healed in the physical world.
As for how to heal… Ji Wu frowned in silence. She would absolutely never accept the absurdity of the dream being enacted here.
Never!
“Master, don’t be angry. I have another way.” Ming Xi placed her hand on Ji Wu’s shoulder, quietly brushed aside her collar, and pressed her fingertip against the Grandmaster’s collarbone.
Before Ji Wu could voice a reprimand, the wicked thing actually leaned in and gave it a bite.
An electric numbness replaced the itch, dominating her senses. Ji Wu couldn’t immediately hide her disorientation, nearly letting out a moan. “…How brazen—”
“—And that’s it.” Ming Xi narrowed her eyes in satisfaction, reached back for Ji Wu’s hand to interlock their palms, and pointed out from under the quilt toward the window.
Shoom. The window frame swayed in the candlelight and shut tight.
“It’s closed.” Ming Xi tilted her head against Ji Wu’s shoulder. “Mm, this is much more comfortable.”
“I am not comfortable.” Ji Wu truly couldn’t bear it anymore.
She was the one with damaged strength, yet Ming Xi had no issue with dispersing spiritual energy. This rebellious beast clearly could have performed the spell herself to close the window; why did she have to press and bite Ji Wu just for that “one point”!
She even performed a spiritual union with her? This kind of spiritual fusion could only be achieved between wives; it was an extremely intimate way of harmony. Ji Wu could clearly feel the moment the other’s spiritual energy poured into her sea of consciousness.
Too close! Too… too tight!
“Oh! Not comfortable?” Ming Xi’s eyes lit up. “Does Master want Ming Xi’s ‘comfort’?”
Ji Wu was stunned again: She dared to push her luck?
The Grandmaster gave her a sideways glare. “Get up. You have your own quarters. Go out.”
Although Ji Wu and this Lingshan Dream Beast were old acquaintances, they had never had any private dealings. Whether it was kind words or harsh ones, the two had never spoken much to each other.
After all, they were different species with nothing in common. If Ming Xi hadn’t been so unruly, Ji Wu wouldn’t have wanted anything to do with her at all.
And now this creature claimed she had amnesia and had forgotten the entanglements between them. But Ji Wu hadn’t let go of their past. Even if they weren’t mortal enemies, there was no reason for them to be in this kind of relationship now.
They were rivals. For hundreds of years, she and Ming Xi had been rivals. How could they sleep in the same bed now?
Recalling the scenes of their past clashes, Ji Wu’s heart inevitably turned cold again. She urged once more, “Do not force me to use force to evict you.”
“Master, don’t fuss with me,” Ming Xi pleaded in a soft voice, not feeling threatened in the slightest.
Ji Wu’s face was inches away, and she found it so very lovely.
How could there be such a beautiful human? As expected of the “contracted wife” this kitty chose. At first glance, she was stunning; upon closer inspection, she was exquisite in every way.
But why did Master look at her with that kind of expression?
Is Ming Xi not pretty?
Ming Xi is very pretty!
But Ming Xi is very annoying to Ji Wu, isn’t she?
The Dream Beast was puzzled. If Ji Wu hated her, why did she form a contract with her?
Mhm, mhm. So Master is just embarrassed. It must be that.
After all, Ming Xi had been dormant for several years; Master must have grown distant, which is why she’s like this. Ming Xi needs to be more proactive.
Cultivators—self-restraint and propriety are their things. It’s understandable.
Ming Xi encouraged herself. Since Master was too shy to express herself, Ming Xi would show more love.
As she thought this, the spring colors in her eyes deepened. Ji Wu’s cold gaze was merely a flower blooming on a high peak to her; as long as Ming Xi climbed with a sincere heart, how could she not pluck it?
Unfortunately, Ming Xi’s appreciation looked like pure provocation in Ji Wu’s eyes. This evil beast was truly arrogant and hateful; her mouth spoke soft words, but her eyes were extremely frivolous, as if she were stripping something bare.
“Get out quickly—”
“—Quickly rest, quickly rest. Okay, Master.” Ming Xi hummed a few times, already nestled very comfortably. “I worked so hard in the dream; Master must be considerate. Ming Xi has worked hard even if there’s no credit.”
She dragged out her tone, and after speaking, she stared straight at Ji Wu, acting aggrieved.
“Hmph.” Ji Wu wasn’t buying it. The way this rebellious beast acted in the dream didn’t look like she’d ever get tired.
Ji Wu’s tone turned cold. “If you don’t leave, I will.”
Ming Xi wrinkled her face and hooked her long fingers around Ji Wu. “We are in a contracted relationship; there’s no reason to sleep separately. Besides, Master is weak and needs careful tending. The Elders instructed many times to be careful with everything; Ming Xi must do everything personally.”
“Lingshan has just awakened and everything is reviving; it’s a time of upheaval. Ming Xi must protect Master closely!”
As she spoke, she rubbed against Ji Wu and began to move restlessly again, making the Grandmaster nearly lose her composure and actually trade blows with the evil thing.
But Ming Xi’s words reminded Ji Wu that the two of them still held a contracted bond.
With this evil creature currently lacking her memory, if she were allowed to roam freely at night, who knew what trouble she might cause.
Now that Lingshan had just revived, everything indeed required caution.
Ji Wu cleared her throat. “Since… you are unwilling to leave, stay to the side like you were just now. Do not lean on me, and do not touch me recklessly.”
“It’s so cold. There are no blankets on the edge, and nothing soft.” Ming Xi definitely didn’t want that.
“You possess the Dream Fire; how could you be cold? Do not pester me. I am tired.” Ji Wu closed her eyes, determined to ignore her.
“Dream Fire,” Ming Xi murmured the words. “I don’t know how to use it anymore.”
These words weren’t a lie. After Ming Xi woke up, she had forgotten many things. The fierce battle eight years ago was too tragic; her internal injuries hadn’t fully recovered. Thus, not only did Ji Wu need healing, but Ming Xi also urgently needed to return to her origin.
“Master, I have an idea…” Ming Xi was a man of action. “Since Master is too shy to seek pleasure in the physical world, shall we do it in the dream instead? Ming Xi can stay on the edge to guard, but can we—”
“No.” Ji Wu spat out two flat words with her eyes closed.
She wasn’t even angry anymore; instead, it made Ming Xi feel dejected. “But how will Master survive the night of the full moon like this?”
“You need not worry about that. My affairs do not require your interference from now on. Just stay quiet.” Ji Wu suppressed the erotic images popping up in her mind and warned herself not to allow such absurd entanglements to happen anywhere again.
“I said I would not go into the dream with you again. Do not have such thoughts.”
“Okay, Master,” Ming Xi agreed readily. “I also think that doing it in a dream is a bit unfair to Master. It’s better to harmonize in the physical world so we can both benefit. Great, it’s good that Master has come around.”
“I haven’t… I haven’t ‘come around.’ I don’t want to,” Ji Wu snorted coldly.
Ming Xi: “You will eventually.”
Ji Wu took a deep breath. “Stop talking nonsense.”
She had practiced the Dao for many years and had long since ceased to be tethered by worldly entanglements, yet every time this rebellious beast countered her, waves would rise in her heart. It was truly like a karmic obstacle.
Moreover, Ming Xi didn’t know when to stop. Seeing that Ji Wu was getting a bit angry again, she actually became happy.
“Master doesn’t even know to close the window when sleeping. It makes a kitty so worried. And yet Master won’t let Ming Xi manage things. Without Ming Xi guarding her, Master simply can’t take care of herself.”
“How can you keep talking such rubbish!” Ji Wu truly couldn’t maintain her elegance.
How could this beast be so persistent!
“Oh, if Master won’t admit it, then forget it.” Ming Xi shook her head to herself. “But Master shouldn’t be so heartless. You don’t let me rest after using me, you don’t let me eat the chickens in the backyard, and you won’t even let me have the quilt.”
“Ming Xi is tired and hungry. I can’t even lie down for a bit before being sent out into the rain.”
After she finished muttering her grievances, she looked up, and her eyes had actually turned red. “What exactly do I have to do to make Master like me?”
This Lingshan Dream Beast was born with an exquisite appearance; her peach-blossom eyes shimmered with ripples. When they were teary like this, it was most captivating.
For some reason, Ji Wu’s heart twinged. It took a long time before she replied, “I don’t hate you.”
Ming Xi had been putting on a show and was ready to make more of a fuss, but she froze upon hearing this, her expression turning sharp for a split second.
She seemed to have heard these words before.
When was it? Had Ji Wu said them then too?
The blank space in her memory left Ming Xi dazed. In the end, she could only shake her head, losing her interest in further play.
“Even if we are contracted wives, one cannot be forced in the slightest. Ming Xi understands.”
She let out a sigh and whispered with a sob, “Since Master is so resistant, Ming Xi will leave.”
