The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 5
Originally, he had sacrificed so much for that man right after graduating from university. Now, he could no longer allow himself to trample over his own freedom for the sake of that man.
As the divorce certificate rested between them, the corners of Chu Jingtian’s lips slowly curved upward. He picked up the document, opened it, and applied a mosaic over the image of the man beside him.
[I am free. You only live once; I only want to live for myself.] [Image.jpg]
After posting the photo, Chu Jingtian let out a light, relaxed laugh.
In the past, while staying by Zhou Nian’s side, Chu Jingtian had endured so much. Every time his career reached a rising stage, Zhou Nian would find a way to mess things up, forcing him to give it all up. Only now did he realize that true love means being willing to let the person you love bloom, rather than what Zhou Nian did. To control the one he “loved,” Zhou Nian had forced him to resign from his job.
Recalling those memories, Chu Jingtian felt a deep sense of discomfort. Why had he ever liked Zhou Nian? It was only because Zhou Nian had pursued him relentlessly. Back then, seeing Zhou Nian’s persistent courtship, he was just a green, naive youth. He was quickly charmed and stepped into the halls of marriage with him.
Thinking about it now, those memories were nothing more than a current disgrace. These stains were slowly etching themselves into Chu Jingtian’s heart. He tucked the divorce certificate into his backpack and finally walked away. He, Chu Jingtian, had a life that belonged only to him.
After all, as a certain song goes: “Life, oh, it only happens once.”
Yes. Chu Jingtian smiled at the thought. His life was singular. He would live only for himself now and would not allow his life to be shackled by anyone else. If someone truly loved him, how could they control his career? They wouldn’t mock his efforts as childish or pathetic.
When Chu Jingtian thought about the years spent by Zhou Nian’s side, eating simple meals and living like a glorified nanny, he felt utterly ridiculous. He was a brilliant 985-graduate, a top-tier university student. Why had he wasted himself like this?
He was going to change everything. He would not alter the course of his life for another person again. His life’s trajectory was his to grasp, and he required no one else to interfere.
As he walked slowly down the street, he spotted a car in the distance. For some reason, it looked strangely familiar. The vehicle pulled up beside him, and the window slid down, revealing Su Jingyang’s handsome, rebellious face. Seeing Su Jingyang appear before him, Chu Jingtian felt a flicker of embarrassment.
“Brother, I just happened to be passing by. Do you want a ride?” Su Jingyang wore a bright, radiant smile.
Looking at that smile, Chu Jingtian was reminded of Su Jingyang as a child. Back then, Su Jingyang wasn’t someone who smiled often. Su Jingyang had always stayed by his side, and those times spent together were very happy. Memories of the past brought a smile to his face now, though they also carried a hint of bitterness. He still felt guilty for missing his younger brother’s departure when he went abroad. After all, they grew up together as neighbors.
“Brother Jingtian, did you divorce that scumbag?” Su Jingyang asked, looking at him.
Chu Jingtian met his gaze and nodded with a smile. “I’ve divorced him. I won’t hand my life over to a scumbag.”
He had once wanted to give love a chance, only to sink into a repetitive cycle of misery. Thinking back to his high school days, he had told his classmates he would never lose his heart to anyone. He never expected to let that man into his heart, only to be met with so much misfortune. It was laughable. Fortunately, he had reclaimed his life before everything was completely lost.
Feeling a sense of sunny confidence, he climbed into Su Jingyang’s car. Su Jingyang started the engine and looked at him with curiosity.
“Brother Jingtian, where do you want to go?”
“Just take me home. I haven’t been back to see my family in a long time.” Chu Jingtian’s lips curved, though his eyes began to redden.
When he married Zhou Nian, his parents and relatives had tried to stop him. But he had been blinded by Zhou Nian’s sweet talk. It turned out his family was right; Zhou Nian was a bad person who was merely putting on an act.
Chu Jingtian felt a deep sense of regret. Since Zhou Nian had revealed his true nature, Chu Jingtian hadn’t dared to return home. He felt that going back would only bring shame to his parents and didn’t know how to face them. Now he realized that home was the only true harbor. To truly let go was the only way to find peace.
Beside him, Su Jingyang saw how sad he was and realized that silence was the best form of comfort right now.
The car moved quickly, and after half an hour, they entered a villa district. Though the area was a bit older, the luxury of the renovations was still apparent. Su Jingyang pulled into a garage in front of a particular villa and led Chu Jingtian out of the car.
“Brother Jingtian, I’ll walk you home. Your parents happen to be in today,” Su Jingyang said with a smile.
Chu Jingtian nodded and walked in with him, though he felt a sense of dazed uncertainty. He should have listened to his parents from the start. He had been too naive to understand the consequences. Now, he could only swallow the results of his own actions.
At the doorstep, Chu Jingtian hesitated, his hand hovering over the door. He hadn’t been home in years. He thought of his parents’ smiles and then of their expressions when he insisted on marrying that man. His eyes welled up. He realized now how right they had been. Back then, he felt their advice was counterproductive, but he was the only one being ridiculous. No matter how much they tried to pull him back, he wouldn’t return, convinced that things would get better in a few years.
But throughout the marriage, Zhou Nian never changed his habits. He didn’t care about Chu Jingtian at all. Now that Chu Jingtian realized his mistake, he wanted to make amends, but he didn’t know how to push that door open.
“Chu Jingtian!” Su Jingyang called out his full name. He frowned, looking directly at him. “Chu Jingtian, do you have any idea how your parents have lived since you left?”
Su Jingyang began to lecture him. During the years he was gone, the Chu parents had been heartbroken and missed him constantly. Even though Su Jingyang loved him, he couldn’t stand seeing Chu Jingtian acting so timidly.
“I…”
Chu Jingtian remembered. Initially, his parents were frustrated by his stubbornness, but that soon turned into pure longing. Thinking of his parents alone in the house all these years made him feel terrible. For the sake of his so-called pride, he had even blacklisted them. He had been determined to prove his choice wasn’t a mistake.
But he had chosen a different life now. Why was he still trembling at the door? This was his harbor, his home.
Chu Jingtian was panicked, unsure of how to knock. Seeing this, Su Jingyang simply reached out and opened the door.
Standing inside, looking out, was Zhao Qingya, Chu Jingtian’s mother. The moment he saw her, Chu Jingtian’s tears finally broke free. He had a thousand words to say but didn’t know where to start. Overwhelmed by grievance, he rushed forward, threw his arms around her, and began to sob like a child.
