The Aloof Little Puppy Is Super Obedient - Chapter 4
Su Jingyang had never liked the food cooked by the maids at home, especially during his rebellious teenage years. Every time Chu Jingtian rushed back from university, he would bring Su Jingyang to this very restaurant to pick out all sorts of delicious dishes to soothe his stomach.
Hearing Su Jingyang mention this, Chu Jingtian felt a jolt of surprise. Looking at the establishment now, he realized it had been many years. When they first started coming here, he was still in college. Back then, seeing that Su Jingyang wasn’t eating well at home, he had brought him here to improve his diet.
If not for this reminder, those memories might have stayed buried. As they walked inside, they ordered the “Old Three”: soy milk, deep-fried dough sticks, and millet congee. They used to love this simple breakfast; such a plain meal was easy on the stomach and comforting.
“I didn’t expect you to remember things from so many years ago,” Chu Jingtian said, letting out a helpless sigh.
So much time had passed, yet Su Jingyang held onto every story. During his years of marriage to Zhou Nian, Chu Jingtian had been consumed by domestic chores, leaving him no time for his career or to simply enjoy life. Returning to this familiar place now filled him with a sense of bittersweet reflection. Time truly had a way of wearing a person down, making them feel out of sync with the world.
Su Jingyang gave a helpless smile. “Brother Jingtian, how could I ever forget the times you brought me here to eat?”
He flashed a crystal-clear smile, looking exactly as he did in his youth, untouched by the passing years. Watching him, Chu Jingtian felt a wave of emotion. It was incredible how this younger brother hadn’t changed at all. The only difference was his style of dress, which was now quite personal and bold.
“Back then, I hated the food the nannies made. Once you found out, you brought me here for breakfast every day. Even though we ate the same ‘Old Three’ every morning, those dishes became classics. You used to nag me while we ate, telling me never to forget how good you were to me.”
As his past “dark history” was brought to light, Chu Jingtian nearly choked on his soy milk. He hadn’t expected these long-dead memories to be resurrected; it was embarrassing, and he didn’t quite know how to discuss the “past” anymore.
The memories felt awkward now. Once they finished breakfast, Chu Jingtian bid Su Jingyang goodbye.
Standing behind him, Su Jingyang sighed as he watched Chu Jingtian’s retreating back. To him, the word “Brother” would always belong to Chu Jingtian, and this restaurant would always be their place. He couldn’t understand how someone could easily forget the memories they shared here. Time moved fast, but the beautiful moments stayed anchored in his heart.
Chu Jingtian hailed a taxi and left. Once inside, he immediately called Zhou Nian. They had agreed the day before to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau today to finalize their divorce.
It wasn’t an easy call to make; it took four or five attempts before Zhou Nian finally picked up. The moment the call connected, Chu Jingtian got straight to the point.
“Didn’t I tell you yesterday? We are going to the Civil Affairs Bureau today. Are you free or not? Are you coming out?”
On the other end of the line, Zhou Nian paused, seemingly stunned that Chu Jingtian was actually following through. “Is this another tactic to play hard to get? Do you just want me to come home and spend time with you?”
Chu Jingtian frowned at the man’s sheer arrogance. “I don’t care whether you believe me or not. I am almost at the Civil Affairs Bureau. Get over here now.”
He hung up immediately. After ending the call, he let out a long breath. Though it was only a few sentences, it represented a difficult choice. When he first got together with that man, he had been charmed by his sweet words and ability to coax people into happiness. In his youthful ignorance, he had been easily deceived. Now, he realized how ridiculous that had been.
He set his phone aside and sighed. It was time to let go.
The taxi driver was fast, and they soon arrived at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau. Zhou Nian was nowhere to be seen. After waiting for half an hour, Chu Jingtian lost his patience and called again. It took ten tries before Zhou Nian finally answered.
“I’m telling you now, I don’t have time for your nonsense. If you really want a divorce, stop bothering me…”
“Shut up,” Chu Jingtian interrupted. “I told you we’d meet at the Civil Affairs Bureau today. If you don’t show up, don’t blame me for being ruthless. Tomorrow’s top trending news will be about us.”
Chu Jingtian spoke with an air of authority. Before he had given everything up for that man, he had been a powerhouse in the news media industry. He had been a general manager, known for his serious and capable handling of company affairs. Thinking back on how he abandoned his career for “love” made him realize how foolish he had been.
The man he married, Zhou Nian, had already worked his way up to become a company CEO. A trending topic about him would easily hit the top ten. If Zhou Nian refused to cooperate, Chu Jingtian knew exactly how to use his media expertise to push the man into an abyss. After all, the man had cheated.
Zhou Nian hung up abruptly. Ten minutes later, Chu Jingtian saw his car pull up.
Chu Jingtian sneered inwardly; it seemed the best way to move Zhou Nian was the threat of media exposure. After spending about fifteen minutes inside the bureau, they finally held their divorce certificates in their hands.
Looking at the document, Chu Jingtian felt a wave of relief. Why should a divorce be sad? It felt like a liberation. He felt a weight lift from his heart regarding the regrets of his youth.
Beside him, Zhou Nian looked at the certificate with surprise. In the past, Chu Jingtian never would have entertained the thought of divorce. Seeing him so willing now, Zhou Nian only scoffed. He was convinced this was just another new trick.
“You really are playing hard to get,” Zhou Nian laughed. “Now that we have the certificate, you’ll probably be begging me to marry you again in no time. Let me make this clear: if you regret this, I won’t take you back.”
Chu Jingtian clenched his fists. He couldn’t believe Zhou Nian was still saying such offensive things. He had only held on before because of the lingering feelings from his youth; now that those were gone, he was more than happy to leave. Still, the mockery stung. He had been so “ridiculous” to ever think this man was worth it.
“Rest assured, CEO Zhou, I will never bother you again.”
Chu Jingtian’s voice was cold and final. He was finished with him. Having heard Zhou Nian’s insults for so long, he had become numb, but this time, he was going to bite back.
“Besides, do you really think you’re that charming? You’re nothing but a ridiculous clown.”
Zhou Nian’s brow furrowed deeply. “Chu Jingtian, if you keep saying such ugly things, I won’t forgive you.”
He looked at Chu Jingtian in disbelief, never expecting such biting sarcasm from him. “Furthermore, if you keep speaking to me like this, don’t blame me if I get nasty.”
With those words, Zhou Nian turned and walked away. Chu Jingtian watched his retreating figure and smiled. He would never again give up his life for this man.
