The Aloof Film Queen Gets Entangled by a Sweet Little Omega - Chapter 14
We Are… In Love!
In the dim interior of the car, a ringtone pierced the silence. Hearing her mother’s specific ringtone, Shi Rui was startled. She sat up instantly from Luo Xiao’s arms, smoothed back her hair, and pressed the answer button with a composed expression.
“Hello, Mom.”
The car was very quiet, and Mother Chu’s voice came through clearly. “Xiao Rui, are you really not coming home for National Day?”
Hearing this, Shi Rui stole a glance at the person beside her before whispering, “Yeah.”
“Then how about Mom and Mommy come visit you tomorrow?”
“That would be great!”
Shi Rui replied instinctively, looking very happy. Seeing this, Luo Xiao couldn’t help but smile along with her.
However, after a moment, Shi Rui’s mood dampened. She turned to look at Luo Xiao cautiously before saying into the phone, “Mom, aren’t you guys opening the shop tomorrow?”
In the past, business at home was always best during the holidays.
Mother Chu was about to speak when Mommy Shi’s gentle voice crowded into the receiver. “Baby, it’s fine to close the shop for one day. We’re coming to see you tomorrow, so make some arrangements.”
Shi Rui hesitated again, pausing without giving a response. Seeing this, Luo Xiao lightly patted her shoulder and nodded at her when she looked over.
After thinking about it, Shi Rui finally agreed.
After hanging up, she immediately asked expectantly, “Sister, my moms are coming tomorrow and we’re going out to play. Are you coming?”
Luo Xiao fell silent. She gazed at the little rabbit whose heart and eyes were full of her, opened her mouth, and only after a long while managed to say with difficulty, “No, I have to work.”
Shi Rui felt a bit disappointed but recovered quickly, replying considerately, “Okay, work is important. We can play together when there’s another chance.”
“Mm. It’s getting late, you should head back. I have a night scene to film later.”
Luo Xiao’s voice was very soft and gentle, as if she was afraid of scaring her.
Shi Rui gave an “oh,” told her to take care of her health, and then opened the car door to get out.
The little green car waited as usual until she disappeared into the dormitory hallway before driving away.
Back at the dorm, Ming Qing was the first to greet her, asking excitedly, “How was it? How was it?”
Shi Rui nodded shyly.
Ming Qing looked proud. She clicked the hairclip in her hand twice and said triumphantly, “I knew it had to be me.”
Rong An and He Qianqian both chimed in supportively. “Qingqing, you really are the best. You lured her here with just one sentence.”
With her face flushed red, Shi Rui also thanked her. “Thank you, Qingqing. You’re amazing.”
Ming Qing’s nose nearly touched the sky with pride. After a couple of hums, she asked, “No problem, it was nothing. What did you two talk about downstairs? Was she really anxious? She’s probably going hiking with you tomorrow, right?”
At the mention of this, Shi Rui’s mood dipped. She shook her head and replied, “No, she said she has work and can’t go.”
“She’s not going even after that? Then what did you two talk about down there?”
“We…” Shi Rui paused, a sly smile crossing her face as she said with a look of pure sweetness, “We are in love.”
“What?!”
The three of them shouted simultaneously. Ming Qing was the first to react, quickly putting a finger to her lips. “Quiet down.”
Then she looked at Shi Rui and asked seriously, “You’re not joking, right? You two are already together?”
“Exactly! You’ve only known each other for a few days. You don’t even know each other that well yet,” Rong An warned worriedly. Beside her, He Qianqian nodded and frowned. “I think so too.”
Shi Rui didn’t know how to explain the situation to them. Fiddling with her hands, she argued softly, “We just… got together. I don’t think it’s fast; I actually think it’s quite slow. Anyway, as soon as I get near her, I feel a sense of familiarity, like we’ve known each other for a long time.”
Hearing this, Ming Qing sighed helplessly and turned to Rong An. “Take a note: she’s upgraded. She’s now a ‘Super Love-Brain’.”
“I am not.”
Shi Rui tried to protest, but having no strong evidence to persuade them, she could only recount the situation from earlier. As she spoke, Ming Qing’s expression grew worse. She began to analyze it calmly:
“This isn’t right. She said she only takes a wife and doesn’t do girlfriends. That means anyone besides the one she finally marries is just for fun. Her attitude is very clear. Rabbit, stop liking her so you don’t end up hurting yourself. She’s lived for so many years and works in the entertainment industry—she’s definitely a veteran in the game of love. You’re no match for her. Plus, if your relationship is exposed later, crazy fans might hurt you. Take my advice: forget her. You haven’t known her long anyway, the feelings aren’t that deep. Break it off and I’ll introduce you to other great sisters. Any type you want. Be a good girl.”
“It’s not like that,” Shi Rui said stubbornly.
She didn’t believe her “Sister” was that kind of person, because she truly felt there was some kind of bond between them—though she couldn’t explain it if she tried.
Shi Rui thought to herself that maybe she really was a “Super Love-Brain,” but since she had already fallen for her, what else could she do? Even if there was a chance she might regret it later, she didn’t regret it now.
Right now, she was only willing.
Ming Qing wanted to say more, but Shi Rui’s heart felt heavy and she didn’t want to listen. She stepped forward, took Ming Qing’s hands, rubbed them against her own face, and acted spoiled. “Qingqing, I know you’re doing this for my own good. I promise I’ll think about it carefully. Really. But let’s not talk about this for now, okay? My moms are coming to see me tomorrow. I’ll treat you all to dinner, and we can go play together afterward, okay?”
“You…”
Ming Qing wanted to say that acting spoiled like that was cheating, but after a thought, she didn’t say it. Instead, she responded dotingly, “Fine. Let’s focus on tomorrow’s business first.”
Early the next morning, Shi Rui was up before seven. After getting ready, she set out with the others for the high-speed rail station to pick up her mothers.
However, as soon as they reached the bottom of the stairs, she saw that familiar little green car again. It was parked there quietly, just as if it had never left the night before.
Shi Rui’s eyes brightened and she smiled radiantly. Overjoyed, she immediately ran over. But when she reached the car and opened the door to look inside, she discovered that the person sitting in the driver’s seat was not her “Sister.”
As soon as Qi Ran saw the little rabbit standing by the car door with a look of utter disappointment, she wanted to laugh. In fact, she did laugh, her voice tilting upward as she asked, “What? Disappointed to see me?”
Shi Rui didn’t plan on getting into the car. She stood properly by the roadside and asked, “Why are you here?”
“She’s busy and can’t get away. She knew your moms were coming today, so she asked me to drive you to pick them up.”
As she finished speaking, the other three girls caught up.
Qi Ran let out a huff and said exaggeratingly, “With this many people, I should have driven the crew’s cargo van if I’d known.”
While she was talking, a little “sheep head” suddenly squeezed in next to Shi Rui. Her eyes were watery as she blinked at Qi Ran and asked the little rabbit, “What’s wrong?”
The smile froze on Qi Ran’s face, and her heart felt like it had stopped beating.
Seeing that no one was speaking, Ming Qing turned to look at the person in the car. After staring for a moment, she shouted in a sudden realization, “Oh! It’s actually you!”
Qi Ran’s vanity was instantly satisfied. She cleared her throat, lifted her left hand to stylishly brush back her hair, and said smugly, “Mm-hmm. So, you follow me?”
“Yeah,” Ming Qing nodded and said honestly. “The 18th-tier little assistant next to Sister. I’ve seen you online.”
The moment those words landed, Qi Ran felt a sharp pain in her heart.
Clutching her chest, she slowly turned to look at Ming Qing, forced out a stiff smile, and said through gritted teeth, “18th-tier? Little assistant?”
She got out of the car, circled to the other side to open the door, and looked at Ming Qing with a beaming—yet pained—smile. “Come on then. Today, this 18th-tier little assistant will serve you all.”
“You’re really brave, coming down here just ‘naked’ like this,” Ming Qing teased. Qi Ran looked down at herself, confused. “What do you mean naked? I’m wearing clothes.”
Ming Qing snorted. “You didn’t even think to wear a mask.”
With a “whoosh,” Ming Qing scrambled into the car and gestured for the others to get in. Shi Rui took the front passenger seat.
Qi Ran stood frozen on the spot for a moment, twitched her lips into a faint smile, and then closed the doors for them.
Once back in the driver’s seat and buckled in, she started the engine and spoke to Ming Qing. “What’s the big deal? Does an 18th-tier little assistant need to wear a mask when going out? Who’s looking at me?”
“Haven’t you heard the saying, ‘a starved camel is still bigger than a horse’?” Ming Qing leaned over the back of the driver’s seat, whispering in her ear. “You’re Sister’s assistant. Even if you just go to a public restroom, someone will be staking out the door for you.”
“Staking me out for what?” Qi Ran laughed.
“To see if you’re accompanying Sister to the bathroom,” Ming Qing said as if it were obvious. “You are a landmark.”
Qi Ran was left speechless by her words, but she didn’t want to give up just yet. She tried a different angle: “What, is Sister’s assistant not allowed to fall in love?”
But as soon as the words left her mouth, she heard Ming Qing’s ruthless laughter. “For an assistant, you know nothing about Sister’s charm. Believe it or not, regardless of whether it’s your girlfriend or not, the moment she’s exposed, she’ll end up being Sister’s in everyone’s eyes.”
Ming Qing had once spent time in an extreme fan group and was very familiar with this logic. Back then, the top three leaders of the group had fought, each claiming they were the only person in the world worthy of Sister.
None of the three would back down, so they held a vote. At that time, Ming Qing was a novice—green, naive, and innocent…
In short, she had simply posted in the group saying that none of them were worthy.
And then she was kicked out of the group.
As Ming Qing shared this story, everyone laughed. Shi Rui, sitting in the passenger seat, also pressed her lips together to hide a smile.
Qi Ran glanced through the rearview mirror at the girl leaning on her seat. Her lips quirked up as she intentionally teased her, “And what about now? Is there anyone worthy?”
“Trying to bait me!” Ming Qing immediately became alert and sat back in her seat. “Not a chance.”
Shi Rui gripped her seatbelt nervously and stole a glance at the driver. Qi Ran laughed helplessly. “Don’t worry. I know more than you guys do.”
“What do you know?” Shi Rui suddenly perked up, gazing at her expectantly.
Qi Ran cleared her throat, acting mysterious. “One day, you’ll find out too,” she replied with a smile.
As she spoke, the car pulled into the underground parking lot.
Shi Rui checked her watch; it was exactly the time the high-speed train was scheduled to arrive. She immediately unbuckled her seatbelt and opened the door. “I’m going to get my moms.”
“Wait, Xiao Rui! Let’s go together!” Rong An called out, and the three of them followed closely behind.
Qi Ran looked back, panicked, unfastened her seatbelt, and pushed the door open to chase after them. “Wait for me!”
Only Mommy Shi and Mother Chu had come for this trip. When Shi Rui spotted them in the crowd, she threw herself at them happily, wrapping her arms around both of them in a big hug.
“Mommy, Mom, I missed you so much!”
“If you missed us, why didn’t you come home?” Mother Chu pretended to be stern to tease her, but she was immediately met with a glare from Mommy Shi.
Once her wife got fierce, Chu Ye didn’t dare speak another word.
Ming Qing and the others followed, greeting the elders politely and introducing themselves.
Shi Zi and Chu Ye greeted them one by one. Qi Ran arrived last because she had been walking with a casual swagger, but she reigned in her attitude in front of the elders and greeted them politely.
“Mommy, Mom, she’s a new friend I met.” Shi Rui pointed at Qi Ran to introduce her. Mommy Shi responded with a smile, but after staring at Qi Ran for a moment, she suddenly said, “I feel like you look very familiar.”
Qi Ran gave a brilliant smile and extended her hand. “Hello, Ms. Shi. I am Luo Xiao’s assistant.”
At those words, Mommy Shi had an epiphany and shook her hand. “Hello, hello! I thought you looked familiar. You were in that video Xiao Rui showed me last time.”
“Ah, yes. I make an appearance every now and then,” Qi Ran said, gracefully smoothing her long hair with great pride.
Ming Qing laughed at her showing off. Shi Rui and Rong An ushered the two elders toward the exit. He Qianqian stood shyly to the side, only answering when Mommy Shi asked her a question.
No one noticed that after Qi Ran introduced herself, Mother Chu’s expression had turned incredibly grim.
