- Chapter 2 - The Malfunction
When Su Ren returned to the classroom, his students looked at him with concern.
His thin lips were pressed tight, his brows were slightly knit, and damp strands of hair clung to his lean face. He looked breathtakingly beautiful in a way that made people want to lose themselves in him.
Su Ren bowed slightly in apology. “Sorry. Let’s continue the lecture.”
But the moment the bell rang, the students, who had been as quiet as cicadas and as obedient as quails, immediately swarmed the podium to shower Su Ren with care.
A soft-featured Omega boy said in a sweet, cloying voice, “Professor Su, why are you so wet? And you seem to smell really good? Is it just my imagination?”
Su Ren choked for a second, then replied without changing his expression, “It is your imagination.”
A Beta girl squeezed to the front. If Su Ren remembered correctly, she was Xie Chouqiu’s class representative. “But Professor Su, you really don’t look well! Will you still be attending the academic review meeting tonight?”
Su Ren didn’t even think about it. “I’ll be there.”
As soon as he spoke, Su Ren lifted his eyelids, his beautiful almond eyes narrowing with displeasure. Clearly, he was exhausted from dealing with the students’ enthusiasm.
Su Ren’s skin was very pale, but his pupils were a cold, ink-black. His shirt was buttoned all the way to the top, making him look overly formal and somewhat indifferent.
Giving one last look at the students who had no actual academic questions, Su Ren said coldly, “If there are no more questions about the lesson, I’ll be leaving first.”
Without waiting for an answer, he picked up his textbook and navigated through the crowd of students to exit the classroom.
Su Ren dragged his tired and strange-feeling body toward his office. His eyelids were low and his expression was dazed, like intoxicating mist.
He lowered his gaze and took a deep breath. Just now, simply hearing Xie Chouqiu’s voice over the phone had caused an unexplainable palpitation and weakness in his legs. A thin layer of sweat covered his body, nearly soaking through his undershirt. The fact that Xie Chouqiu had become his husband was truly overwhelming.
Since the situation was complicated and he had to teach, he had briefly brushed the man off and hung up before receiving an answer.
But now, as Su Ren pulled open his office door, he saw a tall, upright figure with broad shoulders and a narrow waist. The man was standing sideways by his desk, idly twirling a length of red rope in his hand, looking as if he were up to no good.
[18:55, Multi-purpose Hall]
“Where is Professor Su?!” “It’s about to start and I haven’t seen my wife yet. I miss my wife so much.”
“I heard that every academic review meeting is factored into the professional title evaluation. Professor Su was promoted to a senior position at such a young age because his last presentation was so successful and his performance was excellent.”
“Wow, so this meeting is basically an exam for the teachers?”
A few students whispered among themselves. At exactly 19:00, the academic review meeting officially began.
The host introduced the event, and several teachers took turns going on stage to give their reports. However, two seats in the lecturers’ section remained empty.
One belonged to Su Ren, who was never late. The other belonged to Xie Chouqiu, who was always absent.
The head of the Chemistry Department, Director Sun Jianqiang, was breaking out in a cold sweat. He grumbled under his breath, “It’s one thing for Xie Chouqiu to be late every day, but what’s wrong with Su Ren?”
Sun Jianqiang stood up mid-session and called Su Ren five times, but there was no answer.
Hopping with anxiety, he sighed and called Xie Chouqiu without much hope. Surprisingly, Xie Chouqiu picked up almost immediately.
A deep, cool, and slightly raspy voice answered. His tone was lazy and characteristically cynical as he asked, “Hello?”
Those two words caused Sun Jianqiang’s blood pressure to skyrocket.
Hello!
Sun Jianqiang instinctively wanted to curse him out, but he forced his temper down. “Hey, Chouqiu! Do you know what day it is? The academic review meeting! The school leaders are all here, where the hell are you?”
Sun Jianqiang wore a fake smile while his teeth itched with hatred. This Xie Chouqiu looked like a respectable, capable man, but who knew he was such a slacker? He used to be in the military and apparently earned a first-class merit, so why was he so disorganized and undisciplined now that he was working at a school?
He only ever showed up to teach his classes. He was constantly late or absent for mandatory meetings, always giving the excuse that he was “busy,” though no one knew what he was actually doing. Sun Jianqiang felt like he couldn’t stay “strong” whenever he spoke to him. Countless times, Sun Jianqiang had thought about just firing this temporary worker tomorrow!
However, at this moment, the person on the other end of the line didn’t respond to Sun’s long rant. Instead, a few faint, muffled groans could be heard.
It sounded breathy and sticky, almost like the voice of an Omega.
Sun Jianqiang was an experienced Alpha, so his mind naturally raced. Ridiculous! Could this guy named Xie have forgotten the meeting because he’s fooling around?!
Sure enough, his suspicion was confirmed in the next second. Xie Chouqiu’s voice sounded a bit distant as he whispered, “Tsk, don’t move.”
“Mm!”
This time the groan was clearer. It was a familiar, clear, and elegant male voice! Moreover, accompanied by the sound of a violent struggle, the person seemed to say, “Husband?”
Sun Jianqiang blinked and processed this for a moment. He inexplicably felt that the voice sounded a bit like Su Ren?
Impossible! Those two have absolutely nothing to do with each other.
Sun Jianqiang was startled by his own thought, figuring he must be going crazy because he wanted Su Ren to pick up the phone so badly.
Fuming with rage, he hurried to press the end call button. But then, Xie Chouqiu’s low, cool voice came through the speaker again, taking the initiative, “Oh, by the way, there’s a USB drive in the third slot of your parcel’s inner layer. Su Ren wanted you to take a look at it.”
Before Sun Jianqiang could respond, Xie Chouqiu hung up.
Sun Jianqiang was shaking with anger. He tried calling Su Ren again, but still got no answer. Left with no choice, he scratched his head and went to find the USB drive Xie Chouqiu mentioned.
Meanwhile, in Su Ren’s office.
In the space of about fourteen square meters, two young men sat at the north and south ends. They didn’t look at each other, appearing as if they were strangers.
In fact, there was a wide aisle between them, acting like a boundary line, but…
The beautiful young man sitting by the window had disheveled clothes and a face as cold as ice, looking like he had just lost a fight. His hands were firmly tied to the chair with a thin red rope. His refined, beautiful face held a faint trace of tears, making him look like a stunning Omega android.
The man sitting by the door, however, was quite comfortable. The tall, handsome man had sharp features and sat with his legs crossed. He had a roguish smile and his misty blue eyes were dark and clouded. He twirled his phone between his thumb and index finger.
“Are you insane?” Su Ren asked coldly.
“What do you think?” Xie Chouqiu replied with a laugh.
The next second, the screen of the phone in Xie Chouqiu’s hand lit up. The speakers emitted extremely suggestive moans: “Mm,” “Husband,” “Please, I beg you…” The screen displayed a line of text: [How to Elegantly Expose Someone Over the Phone · Top Recommendation].
Su Ren was stunned. He frowned deeply at the man holding the phone. Xie Chouqiu happened to be looking back at him leisurely. Those well-shaped peach blossom eyes, which should have been clear blue, were currently unreadable.
Su Ren pressed his lips into a thin line. His gaze was cold. He realized it had been many years since he had looked at Xie Chouqiu so closely.
This “stranger” he hadn’t spoken to in years… an old acquaintance. Even if this acquaintance had chased him for nearly ten years and was once someone he considered a life-and-death friend.
Thinking about it now was a bit ridiculous.
The man’s pleasant voice let out a scoff. For some reason, he asked, “The academic review meeting is more important than me, isn’t it?”
Su Ren: ? Obviously?
Seeing him not answer, the man’s voice grew colder as he asked again, “The academic review meeting is more important than me, isn’t it?”
Su Ren licked his lips and knit his brows, saying indifferently, “Don’t you already know the answer?”
“Oh,” the tall man was clearly displeased. He narrowed his eyes. “Then I just won’t let you go. Does that annoy you?”
Su Ren: …?
Su Ren found him beyond reason. His face was ice-cold, and the words “You’re sick” were on the tip of his tongue, only held back by his upbringing.
And at that very moment!
A strange, high-pitched girl’s voice suddenly screamed inside Su Ren’s head:
“Ahhh! How could the system make a mistake?!”
“Reporting to the system! The script for Su Ren is a Little Sweet Omega appears to have a malfunction!”
“Received! Reciting the original summary of the erroneous plot: The scummy husband returns to the workplace and finds that his soft, easy-to-bully little wife did not welcome him properly. In a fit of rage, he ties the wife up to prevent him from working! He also lets the Director hear their intimate sounds! The scum gong backed up a video of the two of them ‘making a baby’ and put it on the Director’s USB drive, causing thousands of people to watch the video! The right to interpret the above content belongs to the [Second World · Scum/Cheap System]! Recital complete! Over!”
As the voice finished, Su Ren, who had never heard such a horrifyingly trashy plot, could no longer maintain his cool and refined expression.
Su Ren closed his eyes and opened them again. Though there were tears in the corners of his eyes, his gaze was as sharp as a blade. But before he could explode…
Click!
The wall in front of him turned into a giant, white light-screen, showing the scene of the academic review meeting. At the top, golden letters flashed: [MALFUNCTION SITE].
Hundreds of students and teachers were craning their necks, looking at the projection screen on the stage with intense focus.
A few students were whispering:
“Ahhh, Professor Su is so beautiful!”
“I’m dying, I’m dying!”
“How can his voice sound so good too?”
“The resolution is so clear, I can even see the beauty mark on his face! Can someone send me this video? I want to take it to my grave!!”
Su Ren took a deep breath, the veins on his forehead bulging. His breathing hitched as he struggled against the ropes, finally seeing how his image was appearing on the screen in the hall…
However…
That was just the “review rehearsal” he had recorded at home a few days ago! There was no “strange video” like the voice had described.
Furthermore, there was a subtitle at the bottom of the video: “Deeply sorry. Due to some private reasons, I can only meet with everyone via video this time — Su Ren.”
Unsurprisingly, the unique format was forgiven, and the brilliant speech earned a round of applause.
Some students were still whispering: “I have to ask the Director if I can get a copy of Professor Su’s speech video. I was so busy looking at his face, I didn’t hear a word of the content!”
“Sigh, me too…”
Su Ren: “…”
the real-time footage of the “malfunction site” played for about thirty seconds before fading away.
Su Ren gradually calmed down and began to understand what the “malfunction” mentioned by the voice in his head meant. For some reason, the trashy plot arranged by the system had not been executed.
Su Ren had been so focused that he didn’t notice Xie Chouqiu had stood up. The man strolled over to the window, his handsome face wearing a dark expression. His misty blue eyes were clouded and fierce as he stared unblinkingly at the bound Su Ren.
Su Ren snapped back to reality and was startled by the man.
The cool voice let out a cold laugh, speaking with a strange, sarcastic tone, “I helped you skip a plot point, and you won’t even call me ‘husband’?”
“That’s quite rude, Su Ren.”
Su Ren: ???
