- Chapter 34 - Teaching You to Ride a Horse
By the end of that day, when Yugris finally walked out of the Secret Garden.
He felt like every step he took was like walking on soft clouds, lightheaded and dizzy.
He didn’t know what kept him going, only that he had never been so disheveled.
If it weren’t for the sake of getting along well with the little mermaid, for anyone else, he would have ordered that person to be sent to the gallows!
The first thing Yugris did when he returned to his carriage was to order his attendant to quickly find a physician.
Heaven knows how uncomfortable it was for him to forcefully suppress the urge to sneeze while having to talk to the little mermaid.
Staying in that flower sea for just a few short minutes felt like enduring a terrible torture to Yugris.
The skin beneath his clothes, for some unknown reason, began to itch.
But as a prince, he certainly couldn’t engage in the crude act of scratching in public, so he could only endure that too.
“Quick!” Yugris was tormented and irritable, barely holding back from losing his composure, trying his best to maintain his last shred of reason, “Get the best physician to see me immediately!”
The attendant took the order and left.
It was no small matter for His Highness the Prince to urgently seek a physician, but at this moment, Yugris couldn’t worry about such things.
Thus, the news quickly spread to the temporary palace.
When she learned of this, You Ting was watering flowers.
Clear water poured from the watering can in her hand, spilling onto the flowerbeds. The petals, wet with moisture, seemed to become even more vibrant.
Claude asked in surprise, “Did Prince Yugris encounter an assassination attempt and get injured?”
You Ting handed him the watering can, smiling, and said, “No.”
A malicious amusement was hard to hide in her emerald-green eyes, “It’s because of a surprise.”
Claude didn’t understand, asking confusedly, “What surprise?”
You Ting didn’t speak, just glanced at the blooming garden, narrowing her eyes in pleasure.
It really was a beautiful day.
…
…
“Your Highness.”
In Yugris’s palace, the physician concluded after the diagnosis, “You have hay fever.”
Yugris sneezed hard again, lying weakly on the recliner, asking faintly, “What kind of illness is this?”
The physician slowly explained, “It’s a strong reaction the body has to some plants, just like what you’re experiencing now.”
Yugris immediately recalled the flower sea the little mermaid had planted. Damn it, he really wanted to have all of them pulled out!
He asked, “How is it treated?”
The physician looked troubled.
“Your Highness, there is currently no medicine found to treat this unusual illness.”
“However, Your Highness need not worry. You just need to rest quietly for a few days and avoid contact with those plants.”
Yugris frowned tightly; this meant he had to simply tough it out!
He asked patiently again, “How long will the symptoms last?”
“Well… everyone’s constitution is different,” the physician said cautiously, “It might get better in two or three days, or it might take over a month.”
Yugris laughed out of frustration, a vein throbbing on his temple, “Get out!”
After the physician left in fear and trepidation, he beckoned his attendant to enter, “Go and destroy all the flowers in the Secret Garden for me!”
The attendant was just about to leave when Yugris Uglis called him back, “Wait.”
He dejectedly waved his hand, “Forget it, you may go.”
The little mermaid was starting to trust him more and more; he didn’t want his previous efforts to be wasted.
Temporary Palace.
Yugris didn’t know that the little mermaid he was constantly thinking about was currently sitting opposite You Ting.
Arturdo enthusiastically recounted the process of planting the flowers and Yugris’s touched expression upon seeing the surprise.
Of course, she didn’t mention using magic, instead beautifying the story as if she had planted them one by one herself.
You Ting rested her chin in her hand, listening with a smile.
What normal person could grow a sea of flowers in the afternoon with seeds they only got this morning?
The little mermaid was indeed a little bit clever, but not by much.
Yugris’s appearance with tears and snot probably wasn’t due to being moved, either.
But she didn’t expose her, instead smiling with satisfaction, “You did very well. Yugris has never received flowers from anyone since childhood, so he must be particularly surprised.”
She bit down on the word “surprised” with a hint of schadenfreude, but the little mermaid didn’t pick up on it.
Arturdo thought she was being praised and puffed out her chest proudly.
She asked You Ting, “What should I do next?”
“Prince Yugris received such a grand surprise; he surely won’t recover for a few days.”
You Ting calmly spoke nonsense, “Feelings need to progress gradually, so you can take a break for the next few days.”
She looked at the little mermaid, “Would you like to go out and have some fun with me?”
Arturdo’s eyes lit up with excitement, but she stammered, “Oh, this… is this not very appropriate?”
You Ting saw through the little mermaid’s feigned reluctance, stood up, and made a move to leave.
She casually glanced at the little mermaid, pretending to regretfully say, “Not going? Then never mind.”
Arturdo ran up to her in three steps, as excited as a little dog about to go for a walk, “Go! Of course, I’ll go!”
She came to the human world because she wanted to have a good time.
But her good friend seemed very busy, only letting her stay in the Secret Garden and never taking her out to play.
Although the Secret Garden was big, she got bored of looking at it after two days of walking around.
Even though Yugris repeatedly emphasized that Stili was not a good person. Arturdo still couldn’t help but feel a shameful excitement—this was an ally who could take her out to play!
You Ting found a palace maid’s outfit and tossed it to Arturdo, “Put this on.”
The human world’s clothes were a bit complicated, and Arturdo studied them for a while before putting them on.
She ran in front of You Ting and spun around twice, asking, “Does it look good?”
You Ting took two steps forward, examining her from top to bottom.
Then she raised her hand to lift the little mermaid’s chin, her eyes curved, and she answered seriously, “Of course, it looks very good.”
The distance between them was unknowingly narrowed. As Arturdo looked up, she met the other person’s profound gaze.
Those emerald-like eyes always held a hint of cool indifference. But when they seriously looked at someone, they also somehow gave rise to a feeling of being cherished.
Clearly, when she first met Stili, the action was similarly familiar.
But back then, the little mermaid’s heart was undisturbed, only filled with curiosity and caution towards the person in front of her.
And now, Arturdo was inexplicably a little nervous, taking a step back to avoid You Ting’s fingers.
She cleared her throat, pushing the strange feeling to the back of her mind, and happily praised, “You look good too!”
Girls should compliment each other!
You Ting smiled behind her hand, curtsying as she held up her skirt, “Thank you for the compliment.”
The layers of the skirt unfolded, and the woman seemed to be wrapped in a massive and luxurious flower.
Her already striking features curved into an arc, a breathtaking beauty.
This time, Arturdo truly felt from the bottom of her heart that Stili was genuinely beautiful!
The little mermaid liked beautiful things and beautiful people.
If she were in the mermaid tribe, she would definitely use all sorts of methods to make such a beauty her good friend.
But Stili was not a mermaid.
She was deep and unfathomable, making it difficult for a fish to figure her out.
Remembering the things Yugris had said, Arturdo always felt some hesitation.
But it didn’t matter. At least for now, even if she and Stili weren’t intimately close friends, they were allies who could go out and play together.
Arturdo disguised herself as an accompanying palace maid and followed You Ting onto the carriage for the outing.
Outside the carriage, Claude asked, “Your Highness, where are we going?”
You Ting casually mentioned a place name.
Upon receiving the instructions, the coachman began to drive the carriage towards the destination.
As soon as the carriage started moving, Arturdo couldn’t sit still. She wanted to see the world outside, but You Ting was in the carriage, and she felt a little embarrassed to move around casually.
Sensing the little mermaid’s thoughts, You Ting said, “If you want to look, then look.”
“Yay!” Arturdo was so happy that her eyes curved into crescent moons.
She thought to herself, Stili doesn’t seem that scary.
Perhaps I can become good friends with Stili behind Uglis’s back?
Arturdo quietly lifted a corner of the curtain and peered out through the gap.
Her wandering thoughts were quickly washed away by the sight of the bustling street outside.
Every time something caught her eye, she would ask, “What is this, and what is that?”
And each time, You Ting would patiently answer her questions, and even asked Claude to buy some small trinkets to bring into the carriage for the little mermaid to play with on the way.
Claude had previously thought that Arturdo might be Uglis’s little mistress, manipulative and trying to show off in front of their Highness.
But seeing her now, he started to doubt his judgment—
Yugris was at least a Crown Prince of a nation; would he really give up their noble and beautiful Highness for a fool?
Someone who didn’t recognize these common objects must have come from some remote little mountain village.
Arturdo was completely unaware of his internal musings.
When she received the new toys from Claude, she immediately forgot about how Claude had been wary of her before.
She smiled sweetly and bowed politely, “Thank you!”
After thinking for a moment, Arturdo picked and chose from a pile of things and gave one to Claude.
“Buying things is also tiring, this is for you!”
Claude was confused by the little mermaid’s gesture and stumbled over his words, “You’re welcome.”
He quickly refused, “I can’t accept this, I can’t accept this!”
Arturdo insisted on giving it.
Claude insisted on not taking it.
They were at a stalemate, and finally, You Ting, unable to watch any longer, nodded to Claude, “Take it.”
Only then did Claude, with a strange look on his face, accept the item, watching Arturdo return to the carriage with a beaming smile.
Is she trying to curry favor with our Highness and now trying to corrupt my steel-like loyalty?
In just a few breaths, countless thoughts had raced through Claude’s mind.
However, no matter what, it was hard for him to maintain the cold face he had at the beginning towards the little mermaid.
The journey to their destination was not short. The little mermaid was initially very interested, but as time passed, she grew tired.
There was nothing else in the carriage to pass the time. You Ting wasn’t interested in the little trinkets, so she was bored and observed the little mermaid dozing off.
Watching the little mermaid’s head bobbing up and down, You Ting was amused.
Arturdo was groggy, barely able to keep her eyes open, and just as she was about to fall forward, someone gently held her up.
You Ting waited for a moment.
But even this movement didn’t wake the little mermaid. She merely mumbled something in a soft voice, then completely closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
You Ting chuckled, adjusted her position, and let the person rest her head on her lap.
Perhaps the posture was quite comfortable. Arturdo pursed her lips and made a ‘pupu’ sound, as if blowing bubbles.
You Ting gently shook her head, truly having no choice but to indulge this little mermaid.
She claimed to think she wasn’t a good person, yet she slept soundly in her presence.
Bored, You Ting lowered her head and carefully observed Arturdo.
This face was clearly a masterpiece of the Creator; every inch was impeccably beautiful.
Perhaps because she had been away from the sea for too long, or because she had used too much magic today, tiny, fragmented blue scales appeared at Arturdo’s temples.
They were few, and one wouldn’t notice them without looking closely.
You Ting reached out, brushed Arturdo’s hair over the area, concealing the traces of scales.
She leaned against the carriage wall and also closed her eyes.
After an unknown period, Claude’s voice came from outside, “Your Highness, we’ve arrived.”
The carriage stopped.
You Ting opened her eyes, and Arturdo also slowly woke up.
She wasn’t fully awake yet, asking vaguely, “Are we there? What are we going to do?”
You Ting smiled, “I’m going to teach you to ride a horse.”
