- Chapter 16 - Stealing My Person
After the training class started on time, Bai Nianzhao, clutching her newly bought textbooks and materials, stepped into the classroom with a heart still stirring.
There were a few familiar faces in the classroom, people she had seen when she registered that day.
She considered herself to be early, but there were only a few empty seats left, so she had to choose a place near the front row to sit down.
Sitting next to Bai Nianzhao was a grandpa with completely white hair, wearing a pair of presbyopic glasses and a quite refined suit, looking very kind.
The old grandpa nodded friendly to Bai Nianzhao and said with a sigh, “You’re about the same age as my granddaughter.”
Such kindness dispelled some of the nervousness in Bai Nianzhao’s heart.
After the bell rang, the teacher in charge of the lecture walked in.
Everything seemed no different from her high school memories many years ago, except for the diverse personalities of the surrounding classmates.
She had thought that after a few years, she should have long forgotten this knowledge.
But as the knowledge points were gradually written on the blackboard, her memory also gradually became clear.
The spark was hidden in the darkness, weak, but never extinguished.
It only waited for a spring breeze to turn into a prairie fire.
Bai Nianzhao carefully took notes. She remembered You Ting’s words, so she obediently stood at the building entrance after the class ended.
She looked up at the roadside from time to time, waiting for You Ting to drive over.
But the car that stopped in front of her was one she didn’t recognize at all.
The car door opened, revealing a strange man’s cold and hard face: “Miss Bai, Madam ordered us to take you home.”
Bai Nianzhao was still confused, but the people in the car didn’t give her time to react. A few of them quickly forced her into the back seat.
The driver then stepped on the accelerator and drove away.
This sudden change made her panic. She wanted to escape but was surrounded by several people and could not reach the car door at all.
Just then, a ringtone sounded, and You Ting’s name was flashing on the caller ID.
Bai Nianzhao’s eyes lit up. Just as she was about to press the answer button, the phone in her hand was suddenly snatched away by one of the men.
“What exactly are you going to do?” She didn’t know who these people were, or where she was being taken.
Panic and fear of the unknown filled her uneasy heart.
Bai Nianzhao tightly clutched her backpack, trying to gain some sense of security through this method.
The slender back of her hand was taut, and the greenish veins were clearly visible.
The man who snatched her phone replied, “Miss Bai, don’t worry, we don’t intend to hurt you, we are just following orders.”
Following orders?
Bai Nianzhao suddenly remembered what they had said when they grabbed her into the car.
She tentatively asked, “…Is it Madam Bai?”
The man denied: “No.”
Bai Nianzhao realized, “Then it’s Madam You.”
This time, the man did not answer, proving her guess was correct with his silence.
Bai Nianzhao looked out through the car window.
She had only been to the You family once, but her memory was not bad, and she could roughly recognize the road.
This direction was indeed the route heading towards the You family.
Even though she guessed who the instigator was, Bai Nianzhao still did not feel the slightest ease. Instead, she felt even more flustered and confused.
She had only met Madam You once, but she was certain that Madam You was very dissatisfied with her identity.
The silver ring on her knuckle reflected a dazzling light.
The days spent with You Ting in Mengyu Jiangnan were as beautiful as a carefully woven dream.
And now, the dream seemed to be about to wake up.
…
…
Half an hour later.
The You family home.
Song Qiu looked at Bai Nianzhao, who was brought in, and frowned in a critical manner.
“Although I think you are not worthy of Xiaofeng,” she raised her chin, her tone full of disdain, “but since things have come to this, since you have an engagement with our Xiaofeng, you must take good care of him in the future.”
Song Qiu gave a look to the person beside her, and that person immediately carried a bowl of medicinal soup and walked towards Bai Nianzhao.
“This is the traditional Chinese medicine Xiaofeng needs to drink,” Song Qiu said, “Take it to him.”
The medicine must have just been brewed. The edges of the bowl were scalding, and the dark brown liquid emitted a strong medicinal smell.
The misty smoke blurred the vision in front of her. Bai Nianzhao couldn’t see Song Qiu’s face clearly, couldn’t see everything around her.
Nor could she see her future.
The tip of her finger clearly felt the burning touch, but her heart felt like it was immersed at the bottom of a cold lake.
The textbook in her backpack was still new, with every important knowledge point carefully outlined in ink.
But this was not a bright and clean classroom. There was no need for inappropriate textbooks here.
Song Qiu, You Aofeng, everyone here, only needed an obedient and sensible—
Fiancée.
A fleeting dream.
This should have been something she had anticipated all along, the role she was accustomed to playing when she was in the Bai family.
But at this moment, Bai Nianzhao held the medicine bowl but never took a step forward.
Her fingertips were red, and her eye sockets were also red.
She clearly knew that once she chose to compromise, the future she had once fantasized about would turn into a mirage.
Song Qiu furrowed her brows: “What are you still dawdling for?”
Everyone’s eyes fell on Bai Nianzhao, scornful and contemptuous, as if they felt her behavior was ungrateful.
Bai Nianzhao moved her lips and whispered, “It’s too hot.”
But no one cared.
This was Song Qiu’s intentional display of authority for her.
The person who would care for her and tell her to apply medicine was not here.
Her fine long eyelashes fluttered. Bai Nianzhao suddenly raised her eyes, as if she had made some kind of decision, and raised her voice to repeat: “It’s too hot.”
Her sister had told her that crying was useless. The weaker she was, the more others would want to bully her.
If she didn’t like someone, she should say so. If she didn’t want to do something, she shouldn’t do it.
She didn’t like Young Master You.
And she didn’t want to be You Aofeng’s fiancée.
Bai Nianzhao placed the soup bowl on the table. The spoon hit the side of the bowl with a clear clanging sound.
This sound made Song Qiu snap back to her senses, looking incredulously at Bai Nianzhao, who was turning to leave.
She was so angry that she laughed: “Who are you trying to act noble for? Do you think my You family is a place where you can come and go as you please?”
The doorway was tightly blocked by several bodyguards. Bai Nianzhao gripped the strap of her backpack and stood up straight stubbornly.
“Madam,” she turned around, her voice trembling slightly, “the person who got engaged to Young Master You back then was not me, you have no reason to keep me here.”
Of course, Song Qiu knew that.
But the Bai family had played a trick on them, and this illegitimate daughter still wanted to leave? How could there be such a good thing in the world?
Song Qiu’s eyes rolled, and she suddenly smiled: “Are you sure you want to leave?”
She spoke calmly: “As long as you take one step out of this door, my people will immediately send you back to the Bai family.”
Bai Nianzhao’s face turned pale.
She knew very well what being sent back to the Bai family meant.
With the Bai family’s self-serving nature, they would definitely try every means to squeeze out the last bit of value from her—
Like a commodity, to be casually given away to someone else.
Song Qiu asked again, “So, are you sure you want to leave?”
Just then, You Aofeng also wheeled his chair out of the room.
He didn’t know what had happened, he just frowned and asked, “Why haven’t you brought my medicine in yet?”
His gaze fell upon Bai Nianzhao, and he opened his mouth again with impatience: “My clothes are dirty, come in and change them for me.”
His manner was condescending, even carrying a hint of charity.
As if being chosen by him was a supreme honor for Bai Nianzhao.
Seeing Bai Nianzhao standing rigidly in place, Song Qiu chuckled smugly: “Did you hear that? Hurry up and take the medicine in!”
Bai Nianzhao’s face was pale. She clenched her five fingers, then slowly released them.
No matter which direction she looked in, she could only see despair.
These exquisitely carved luxurious mansions had become an unbreakable prison, letting her crash against the walls until her head was bruised and bloody, unable to find a way out.
Suddenly.
“Does drinking medicine require such a huge fuss, stealing my person?”
A woman’s cool and indifferent voice sounded, followed by the crisp sound of high heels.
Bai Nianzhao abruptly looked up.
A bright red dress swept past the bodyguards at the door, the hem of the skirt lifting with a flamboyant arc.
Someone was bathed in sunlight, coming for her.
