- Chapter 35 - Fighting Fiercely by Day, Sweetly in Love by Night
“Variety Life” was nearing its end after two months. On the final day, the production team organized a “Wrap-up Tea Party.”
Viewers in front of their screens felt a tinge of reluctance after all, these two months of live broadcasts had become a part of their daily lives.
Once it ended, they would only be able to watch reruns.
For the CP fans, there would be no new content to enjoy.
Tian Qi was the first to appear, arriving under the village’s giant banyan tree and greeting the camera.
Next came Luo Dong, followed by Jian Anping.
Tang Jing was the last to make her entrance.
Three tables had been set up under the banyan tree, representing the three teams.
Tang Jing and Meng Xue’s team was placed in the center position not based on seniority, but on the points they had accumulated over the past two months.
Naturally, Tang Jing and Meng Xue’s team ranked first.
Luo Dong sighed helplessly, “As a veteran of three seasons, I still can’t compare to the newcomers.”
Jian Anping comforted him, “It’s alright, Brother Luo. By the fourth season, Teacher Tang and Teacher Meng will be the veterans too.”
Luo Dong: “…”
[HAHAHAHA, when everyone’s in the same boat, it won’t feel embarrassing anymore.]
Hearing Jian Anping’s implication, Tian Qi and the others burst into laughter.
The atmosphere grew lively, and the director began the wrap-up proceedings.
First, everyone shared their reflections on the past two months.
There were far too many thoughts, especially about the dramatic moments so unforgettable that they couldn’t be erased from memory. Every time someone mentioned their iconic scenes, the group would erupt in laughter.
Tang Jing glanced at Meng Xue beside her, whose eyes were brimming with amusement. By chance, their gazes met, and the atmosphere shifted ever so slightly.
The camera happened to capture this moment, sending viewers into a frenzy.
[If there’s one thing that left the deepest impression this season, it’s Tang-jie and Xiao Xue. Even though nothing’s happened between them, you can still sense that ambiguous tension.]
[Right? I’m practically stuffed from all their dog food.]
[AHHHH I really want them to get together!]
[The last month without Sun Sijia felt a bit off.]
[HAHAHA I feel the same! It’s like all the fireworks are gone.]
[But you have to admit, ever since Qiao Meng joined, the overall vibe has improved a lot.]
Some wanted to see a fiery showdown, while others preferred a harmonious ending.
But regardless of preference, the two-month variety show had officially come to a close.
As the tea party neared its end, the chat was flooded with “See you next season!”
Tang Jing and Meng Xue were pulling their suitcases out of the courtyard when they ran into Tian Qi and Qiao Meng.
“Teacher Tang! Teacher Meng!” Tian Qi ran over enthusiastically.
Qiao Meng followed closely behind. “Hello, Teacher Tang,” she greeted before turning to Meng Xue, clinging to her arm and cooing, “Sis Meng, let’s go back together!”
She still didn’t know that Meng Xue and Teacher Tang were now living together and even shared the same agent.
Meng Xue’s first instinct was to glance at Tang Jing.
Noticing her hesitation and the way she looked at someone else, Qiao Meng followed her gaze, only to see Teacher Tang staring right back at them.
Her gaze shifted downward, realizing she was clinging to Sister Meng’s arm. Before her brain could react, her hand had already let go, and she even took a step back to put some distance between them.
“Uh, I…” She glanced at Tian Qi beside her and quickly said, “Qiqi, how about I go to the city with you?”
“Sure.”
She definitely wouldn’t admit that the way Teacher Tang had just looked at her felt like she was sizing up a rival in love.
Stealing another glance at Teacher Tang, she saw her gazing softly at Teacher Meng. Qiao Meng thought she must have imagined it, but when she looked away, something still felt off. She peeked again.
Seeing Teacher Tang’s genuinely tender expression directed at Sister Meng, Qiao Meng sucked in a sharp breath and swiftly averted her eyes.
Tian Qi turned to her, noticing her strange expression, and asked in confusion, “Xiao Meng, what’s wrong?”
Snapping out of it, Qiao Meng shook her head hurriedly. “Nothing.” She cleared her throat and added, “Qiqi, let’s hurry, or we’ll be late getting back to the city.”
Tian Qi was baffled. The trip only took two or three hours, even if they left now, they’d arrive by 4 PM at the latest. How was that late?
Unless,
“Alright, alright, let’s go then.” She chuckled. “Xiao Meng, I didn’t expect you to be so amazing landing another job so quickly!”
Qiao Meng didn’t understand, but she didn’t ask. Right now, making a quick escape was the best move. The last thing she wanted was for Teacher Tang to misunderstand her.
On the ride back, she kept replaying Teacher Tang’s gaze at Sister Meng in her mind. No matter how she thought about it, it just didn’t seem right. Unable to figure it out, she turned to Tian Qi. “Qiqi, do you think Teacher Tang.”
“Teacher Tang what?” Tian Qi put down her phone and looked at her.
Qiao Meng glanced at the driver in front, then leaned closer to Tian Qi, whispering, “Does Teacher Tang like Sister Meng?”
“Cough, cough!” Tian Qi choked in shock. “Teacher Tang likes?”
“Shh, shh!” Qiao Meng nearly clapped a hand over her mouth.
Tian Qi quickly caught on, but her mind was still reeling from Qiao Meng’s words.
Suddenly, she recalled Teacher Tang’s attitude toward Sister Meng during the show’s recording. She hadn’t paid much attention before, but now that she thought about it, it was startling.
She took a deep breath, disbelief written all over her face.
“Right? Right? You think so too!” Seeing she wasn’t the only one who noticed, Qiao Meng felt like she’d found a kindred spirit.
“But doesn’t Teacher Tang like that Sun.”
“That was just gratitude, not real feelings.” At this, Qiao Meng couldn’t help rolling her eyes. “Besides, do you really think someone as perfect as Teacher Tang would be a match for Sun Sijia?”
Tian Qi burst out laughing. “Good point.”
Meanwhile, Tang Jing had no idea the two girls were gossiping about her.
She and Meng Xue got into the company car, where their manager, Sister Ying, was waiting.
Ying Tianhe, sitting in the passenger seat, turned to look at them. “You two must be exhausted. Your faces,” She had been about to say they looked thinner, but seeing they were no different from two months ago, she changed the subject.
“Take tomorrow off. The day after, I’ll take you to meet Director Zhao Kuang.”
“Both me and Teacher Tang?” Meng Xue asked in surprise.
“Yes.” Ying Tianhe didn’t hide it. “Actually, it’s mainly for you. She’s just tagging along.”
Upon hearing this, Meng Xue was even more astonished. Was Teacher Tang’s status really just an afterthought? Did Sister Ying get it backwards, or…
She reached out to feel Sister Ying’s forehead.
Ying Tianhe was initially puzzled by her action, but Tang Jing couldn’t hold back and said, “Xiaoxue thinks you have a fever.”
“A fev—” At first, Ying Tianhe thought she meant something else entirely, but she quickly realized her mistake when she saw the pure concern in Meng Xue’s eyes.
Then it dawned on her why the other girl had reacted that way.
She explained, “Tang Jing asked me to do this.”
Meng Xue turned to look at Teacher Tang, who said, “Mostly just wanted to take a break.”
Meng Xue: “…”
That explanation only made things more confusing. Since when did celebrities take breaks by acting?
“I’ve already spoken to Director Zhao. Xiaoxue, you’ll be the second female lead, and Tang Jing will be the fifth. The two of you will play bitter rivals in the drama.”
“Bitter rivals?” Meng Xue glanced at Teacher Tang, never expecting they’d be cast as adversaries.
“Not just any rivals, ones who fight tooth and nail during the day but get all lovey-dovey at night.”
Now it wasn’t just Meng Xue who was stunned even Tang Jing was dumbfounded.
