- Chapter 3 - Then You and Tang Jing Together
“Participate in Diverse Life?”
Ying Tianhe was utterly shocked, sizing her up and down, wondering how she could even consider joining a variety show.
“Wait, don’t tell me this is for Sun Sijia!” Once this thought crossed her mind, Ying Tianhe became more and more convinced she had hit the nail on the head.
“No way.” She flat-out refused, speaking earnestly, “Xiao Jing, it’s not that I’m against you joining variety shows. You know I’ve pitched so many to you before, and you turned them all down. If you want to relax by joining one now, I’m all for it. But Diverse Life is off the table.”
“You and Sun Sijia are still trending on hot searches. If you appear together again, both our careers are over.” The more Ying Tianhe thought about it, the more anxious she became. “You’ve got to think about me here. I’ve got elderly parents and young kids to support at home…”
Tang Jing, who had only said one sentence since entering, now had no choice but to cut her off. “Sister Ying, you stay home all day doing nothing. Your husband could still support you even if you quit.”
Ying Tianhe glared. “Is that what this is about? As a modern woman, how could I possibly,”
“I know what I’m doing.” Tang Jing looked at her seriously.
This wasn’t for Sun Sijia, it was for Meng Xue.
In the original story, the protagonist had also joined the show for Meng Xue, though her motive back then was to boost the other’s exposure as a way of thanking her for taking care of Sun Sijia during their school days.
But now, her goal was simply to get closer to her senior.
Ying Tianhe studied her. “You’re really going?”
“Mm.”
“No changing your mind?”
“Right.”
Ying Tianhe sat back in her chair, silent for a moment.
Every time her artist appeared in the same frame as Sun Sijia, a hot search spot was practically reserved for them.
Every time, the PR team had to pull endless overtime.
This time, not only would they be appearing together, but they’d also be eating and living in the same filming location. Though they wouldn’t be roommates, Ying Tianhe was still panicking.
With a sigh, she finally relented. “Just remember to give the PR team some extra benefits.”
Every single strand of hair the PR team lost was sacrificed for her and Sun Sijia.
“No problem.” Tang Jing smiled.
“Sister Ying, I’ll leave contacting Director Zheng to you. Remember, it’s me and Meng Xue, just the two of us.” With that, she turned to leave.
Ying Tianhe called out, “Wait.”
Tang Jing turned back to look at her.
“Who’s Meng Xue?”
After Tang Jing explained the other’s identity, Ying Tianhe felt dizzy and immediately pressed her philtrum. “You’re going to be the death of me.”
Joining a variety show and appearing with Sun Sijia was already seismic enough. Now she was adding Sun Sijia’s senior to the mix?
Meng Xue!
Ying Tianhe’s finger paused mid-press. “Did you just say this Meng Xue is a member of MS1?”
“Mm.” Tang Jing raised a brow at her reaction and pulled out the chair to sit back down.
Ying Tianhe lit a slender ladies’ cigarette, a faint smile playing on her lips as she looked at Tang Jing. “I’ve thought of a way.”
Tang Jing listened attentively.
“I know about MS1. They’re huge in Korea. Meng Xue is the leader and the only Chinese member in the group.” Ying Tianhe continued, “I heard recently she was planning to return to China. Several companies wanted to sign her, but so far, no one’s announced anything.”
In the original story, this part hadn’t been described in detail.
According to Sun Sijia’s words, Meng Xue should still be an independent artist at the moment, without a manager by her side.
Meng Xue is gentle and serene, a complete contrast to her dancing persona. Such a striking duality, if properly managed, could pave a broad path for her future in the entertainment industry.
Ying Tianhe said, “I’d like to meet Meng Xue first.”
After having dinner with her senior, Sun Sijia planned to take her back to her small apartment. Unexpectedly, she received a message from Tang Jing halfway, instructing her to bring the senior to the company.
Thanks to Tang Jing, Sun Sijia was fortunate enough to sign with Jingcheng Entertainment as well, though she was placed under Lin Fang’s management.
Ying Tianhe and Lin Fang were sworn rivals, having clashed since the day they joined the company. Over the years, the artists under their management had been entangled in constant competition, fueling their animosity whenever they met.
Sun Sijia led her senior to Ying’s floor. “Senior, just keep walking straight, the fifth room is hers. There’s a nameplate on the door. I won’t go any further.”
Ying never had a pleasant expression when she saw Sun Sijia, so it was better not to walk into that firing line.
“Okay.”
Knock, knock.
“Come in.”
“Hello, Sister Ying.” Meng Xue pushed the door open and greeted politely. When she noticed Tang Jing was also present, her eyes brightened, and she smiled. “Hello, Teacher Tang.”
To maintain her aloof persona, Tang Jing gave a cool nod and pulled out the chair beside her. “Have a seat.”
Meng Xue closed the door and quickly sat down.
Among all the available seats, Tang Jing had deliberately chosen the one closest to her, a subtle maneuver, though the other two in the room didn’t think much of it, assuming it was just courtesy.
“You’re Meng Xue from MS1, right?”
Meng Xue immediately stood up. “Yes, Sister Ying.”
“No need to be nervous, sit.” The more Ying Tianhe looked at her, the more she liked her especially with the contrast of the unruly person sitting beside her. Meng Xue’s demeanor was just so pleasing to the eye.
Tang Jing remarked, “Sister Ying, that expression makes me think you’ve been replaced by an imposter.”
Ying Tianhe retracted her motherly smile and shot her a glare before turning back to Meng Xue with a grin. “Let’s ignore her.”
Meng Xue smiled sweetly, her dimples appearing. Both Ying Tianhe and Tang Jing found themselves drawn to those charming dimples.
Regaining her composure, Ying Tianhe said, “Can I call you Xiaoxue?”
Meng Xue nodded. “Of course, Sister Ying.”
Leaning slightly forward, Ying asked with a smile, “Xiaoxue, are you currently signed to any agency?”
Meng Xue shook her head. “I just returned to the country and have been resting at home these past few days. I haven’t signed with any agency yet, though I have received a few calls recently.”
The girl was sharp, she immediately grasped the implication behind Ying’s words, which pleased Ying even more.
“Do you have any preferences for which agency to sign with?”
Meng Xue frowned slightly in thought. “Honestly, my requirements aren’t high. I just hope to focus more on acting in my solo career.”
“Naturally.” Ying Tianhe felt reassured and gestured toward Tang Jing. “When she first entered the industry, her solo path was also in this direction.”
She had noticed earlier how the girl’s gaze lingered on Tang Jing the moment she entered the room, especially the way her eyes lit up upon seeing her.
Tang Jing had many admirers in the industry, and as a manager, Ying was well aware of that.
Her earlier remark had been a deliberate ploy to leverage Tang Jing’s influence. Now, seeing the girl glance at Tang Jing again, her dimples reappearing, Ying knew she was halfway to success.
Ying Tianhe said, “For the past few years, I’ve been exclusively managing Tang Jing. In the beginning, I was constantly running around to secure resources and endorsements for her. Now that she’s gained fame, opportunities come knocking on their own, and I’ve found myself with more free time. I thought, since I’m still young, I could take on another artist.”
Meng Xue looked at her.
Ying Tianhe smiled and asked, “Xiaoxue, would you like to sign with me as my artist? You’d be working alongside Tang Jing.”
Meng Xue glanced at Tang Jing and nodded eagerly. “I’d love to.”
Tang Jing’s heart skipped a beat. The person before her was none other than Senior Shi Wanqing. Though they were merely being placed under Ying Jie’s management together, in that moment, it felt as if she had suddenly stepped into a wedding scene.
She knew the person in front of her was Senior Shi Wanqing, but due to the system’s rules, neither could acknowledge the other. However, once the world’s progress reached 50%, these restrictions would automatically lift.
Right now, Tang Jing desperately wished for the world’s progress to hit that mark so she could openly pursue Senior Shi.
Even if she couldn’t do it openly, just being able to stick close to Senior Shi during this show would be more than enough to satisfy her.
