- Chapter 29 - Be Good and We Won’t Go to the Hospital
Today, the internet was flooded with gossip, but the most prominent topics revolved around Tang Jing and Sun Sijia. Sun Sijia’s mention of a “life-saving favor” during the show even trended on social media.
The reason was simple over the past few years, everyone had wondered why Tang Jing treated Sun Sijia so unconditionally well. Some even speculated whether Sun Sijia had cast some kind of spell on her.
Of course, there were also rumors that Tang Jing’s kindness stemmed from gratitude because Sun Sijia had once saved Tang Jing’s mother.
But without concrete evidence, it had all been mere speculation.
Now, hearing the truth directly from Sun Sijia’s mouth left everyone stunned.
What was even more shocking was that Sun Sijia had the audacity to label Tang Jing as “ungrateful.”
Let’s not forget how many resources Tang Jing had poured into her over the years, how many scandals she had smoothed over, how she had elevated Sun Sijia from obscurity to a solid second-tier celebrity. And yet, Sun Sijia had the nerve to call her ungrateful.
Even bystanders couldn’t stomach this remark, and they flocked online to condemn her.
Lin Fen was absolutely furious. She had always known Sun Sijia’s temperament would land her in trouble sooner or later. Back then, she had taken comfort in the fact that Tang Jing would always be there to clean up the mess.
But now, this little fool had gone and provoked her very patron. Was she trying to get herself blacklisted?
At this moment, Lin Fen regretted everything. She had taken Sun Sijia under her wing precisely because of Tang Jing’s backing, even going so far as to drop all her other clients to focus solely on Sun Sijia.
Now that Sun Sijia was ruined, so was she.
When Ying Tianhe heard the news, she didn’t feel joy, only a heavy sigh.
Over the years, the more Tang Jing sacrificed for Sun Sijia, the more Ying Tianhe resented it. But every time she brought it up, Tang Jing would shut her down.
Now that the truth was finally out in the open, Tang Jing could finally move on from that chapter.
She picked up her phone, about to call Tang Jing and suggest she post a statement to settle the matter once and for all, only to find that Tang Jing had already done so.
[Ahhhh! Tang Tang posted on Weibo!]
[Queen Tang has finally woken up and is cutting ties with this little green tea b*tch!]
[Ever since watching Diverse Life, every time I see Sun Sijia, I just want to slap her twice. Now I don’t have to Queen Tang is a legend! 666!]
Within minutes of Tang Jing’s post, the flood of reposts and comments nearly crashed Weibo’s servers. The operations team scrambled to stabilize the platform before it fully collapsed.
In her post, Tang Jing expressed gratitude for Sun Sijia’s past act of saving her mother, acknowledging that such a debt could never truly be repaid. She stated that she would still assist Sun Sijia if needed but only within reason, not unconditionally.
Though netizens weren’t entirely satisfied with this outcome, they recognized it as the most graceful resolution.
Meanwhile, industry insiders close to Tang Jing read between the lines: from now on, they no longer had to factor Tang Jing into decisions about working with Sun Sijia. If she was useful, fine. If not, no need to force it.
Director Lin, who had been locked in tense negotiations with Sun Sijia’s agent, finally exhaled in relief before bursting into laughter. “Who the hell does Sun Sijia think she is? No acting skills, yet demanding top-tier pay? Without Tang Jing backing her, you’re nothing but trash.”
The producer laughed heartily, “Old Lin, no need to worry now. So, about the role of the female lead number two…”
Director Lin had recently watched the variety show Diverse Lives and mused, “What do you think about Meng Xue?”
The producer hesitated, “Meng Xue is good at singing and dancing, but her acting…”
“Let her come in for an audition. We won’t know if she’s suitable unless we try,” Director Lin decided firmly.
Gritting his teeth, the producer nodded, “Alright, I’ll contact her then.”
“No, I’ll handle it,” Director Lin said. “Old Li is looking for Xiao Jing for a new film, but they’ve had a falling out. Old Li can’t bring himself to reach out, so I’ll go ask instead.”
“You’re going to contact Teacher Tang?” The producer was taken aback.
Director Lin nodded.
“But what does this have to do with Meng Xue…?”
Director Lin shot him a sidelong glance, “You don’t get it, do you? I’ve never seen Xiao Jing this close with any other artist before. If there’s nothing between them, I’d be surprised.”
The producer’s lips twitched, “Director Lin, are you shipping Jing and Meng Xue too?”
“Tang and Meng sound even better,” Director Lin chuckled.
This time, even the producer’s eyelids twitched.
“Achoo!”
Meng Xue had finally caught a cold. The morning had been chilly and overcast, and after being drenched in water, the cold wind had done its work. It was no surprise she fell ill.
She hadn’t felt anything at noon, but by the afternoon, her head felt heavy, her steps unsteady, and her breathing labored.
She hadn’t paid much attention to it herself.
It was Tang Jing who noticed something was wrong her face was flushed with an unnatural redness, and she seemed listless.
Tang Jing reached out and pressed a hand to Meng Xue’s forehead, immediately feeling the heat. “You’re running a fever.”
Meng Xue’s reactions were sluggish. It took her a few seconds to process the words before slowly raising her hand to her own forehead. “A fever?”
Tang Jing tried to pull her toward the hospital, but Meng Xue frowned and shook her head in resistance. “No.”
“Your temperature is too high. You can’t let it go unchecked,” Tang Jing said disapprovingly, her brows furrowed.
For once, Meng Xue showed a hint of stubbornness, turning her face away without a word.
Tang Jing: “…”
She hadn’t expected that Meng Xue, when sick, would act so petulant. Yet, far from being annoyed, Tang Jing found it rather endearing.
After a moment’s hesitation, Tang Jing softened her tone. “Then go back to your room first. I’ll get you some medicine. If you’re still unwell by evening, we’ll go to the hospital, okay?”
Unbeknownst to her, Tang Jing’s words sounded like she was coaxing a child. Meng Xue’s ears turned red at the gentle tone, and she nodded obediently.
[Ahhhh, this is so sweet!]
[My heart aches for Xiao Xue being sick, but Teacher Tang is so doting!]
[I bet Teacher Tang doesn’t even realize it herself.]
[That voice is so gentle, I wish Teacher Tang would talk to me like that too.]
[Oh my god, this is the first time I’ve seen Teacher Tang like this. She’s so tender, it’s killing me!]
[She’s usually so cold and distant. Who knew she could be this sweet?]
Meng Xue hadn’t expected Teacher Tang to be so gentle either. Right now, her head was spinning whether from the fever or the embarrassment of Tang Jing’s words, she couldn’t tell.
Back in her room, she collapsed onto the bed, only now realizing how awful she felt.
Tang Jing fetched some fever-reducing medicine from the production team and brought a basin of cool water to help lower Meng Xue’s temperature.
The camera in the room had been covered with a cloth, leaving the audience in the dark.
The cameraman had also been shut out, so no one knew what was happening inside.
The audience was scratching their heads in frustration, urging the cameraman to barge in, they wanted to see Teacher Tang and Meng Xue. But the cameraman pretended not to notice.
“Teacher Tang, I can manage on my own,” Meng Xue said, flustered beyond belief when she realized the other woman was wiping her arms and neck.
“Stay still,” Tang Jing frowned.
Meng Xue immediately froze in place.
Tang Jing rinsed the towel in cold water, wrung it out, and hesitated only briefly before reaching for Meng Xue’s blouse.
Meng Xue panicked and grabbed her hand though, given her current weakness, it was less of a grip and more of her hand simply resting atop Tang Jing’s.
“Teacher Tang,” Meng Xue’s voice trembled with a hint of tears, a mix of fear and overwhelming shyness, though the latter dominated.
“Wiping you down will help you feel better,” Tang Jing said, though she was just as nervous, her hands shaking slightly. After all, the person before her was the senior she respected and admired most. Now, here she was, wiping her senior’s body, she wasn’t faring much better than Meng Xue.
But the other woman was burning up. If they didn’t bring her temperature down soon, it could become dangerous.
From Meng Xue’s reaction earlier, it was clear she had an aversion to hospitals, preferring to tough it out at home rather than seek medical help. There had to be a reason for that.
But Tang Jing wouldn’t pry.
Meng Xue bit her lip, hesitating.
Tang Jing played her trump card. “If we don’t lower your fever now, I’ll have to take you to the hospital.”
“No hospitals!” Meng Xue blurted out, then immediately realized how intense she sounded. She opened her mouth to explain but couldn’t find the words.
“Then be good. If your fever goes down, we won’t go.”
Those words sent a rush of warmth through Meng Xue’s chest, her eyes involuntarily welling up. She nodded softly and murmured, “Mm.”
One by one, her fingers undid the buttons. Beneath her blouse, the girl wore a white camisole, the curve of her chest making Tang Jing’s fingers tremble.
Leaning in, Tang Jing supported Meng Xue’s back and helped her out of the blouse. Then, with the towel, she reached inside the camisole and began wiping her down slowly.
Both of them were struggling. Meng Xue shut her eyes in sheer embarrassment.
The faint scent of the girl filled Tang Jing’s senses, and for a moment, she felt intoxicated. But just as quickly, she snapped back to focus, finishing the task efficiently before draping a thin blanket over Meng Xue covering her from head to toe, leaving no skin exposed.
She turned away sharply, squeezing her eyes shut to quell the heat rising within her.
By the time Tang Jing carried the basin out and closed the door behind her, Meng Xue finally exhaled in relief, then buried her face under the blanket in shyness.
Though she had been embarrassed while Tang Jing wiped her down, she had also felt anticipation. Even the towel had seemed like an obstacle, what if Teacher Tang had used her hands instead?
The thought made Meng Xue even more flustered.
She couldn’t believe that even in this state, her mind wandered to such things, just like the “thirsty” netizens always joked about.
But she truly couldn’t help it.
