- Chapter 28 - Insatiable Greed
Tian Qi broke the awkward silence, cautiously asking, “Teacher Tang, Teacher Meng, is there something you needed?”
“We came to talk about the vegetable plot,” Tang Jing said, glancing at Sun Sijia.
Since Tian Qi knew Sun Sijia was solely responsible for the vegetable plot, she also turned her gaze toward her.
Sun Sijia, feeling wronged, couldn’t hold back her temper. “It’s not my fault the vegetables died! Just because I took charge of it doesn’t mean I have to do everything alone. Fine, I’ll refund the points!”
Tang Jing slightly raised her chin. “Hand them over.”
“What?” Sun Sijia froze for a moment before realizing what she meant. Wiping her face roughly, she snapped, “Fine, I’ll go get them now!” With that, she stormed back into the house.
Tian Qi stood there dumbfounded. “Teacher Tang, what exactly happened?”
Meng Xue pursed her lips and explained, “We rented the vegetable plot from Sun Sijia for two months, but now all the vegetables have died. She can’t supply them anymore.”
Tian Qi frowned. “How did the vegetables die so suddenly? As long as they’re watered daily…” She trailed off mid-sentence.
Living in the same house as Sun Sijia, Tian Qi had a rough idea of her daily activities. Lately, Sun Sijia hadn’t been going over to Tang Jing and Meng Xue’s side much had she even been watering the plot?
Tian Qi’s lips twitched, at a loss for words. This woman really never changed, always causing trouble.
Sun Sijia soon emerged from the house and flung the points card toward them. It hit Tang Jing’s shoulder before clattering to the ground.
The audacity of the action made Tian Qi gasp loudly.
Meng Xue’s eyes widened in disbelief.
Tang Jing’s expression darkened.
Sun Sijia faltered slightly under her glare but quickly straightened up, her face flushed with anger. “All my points are on that card. Take whatever you want!”
[Damn, Sun Sijia is disgusting.]
[She actually threw the card at Sister Tang, is she out of her mind?]
[What gives her the right? Who does she think she is?]
[I bet she treats Sister Tang like this off-camera too.]
Viewers flooded the live stream with comments.
Soon, hashtags like #SunSijiaThrowsHerWeightAround and #SunSijiaDisrespectsTangJing began trending.
Ever since Tang Jing’s first variety show appearance, trending topics had been popping up nonstop, much to the delight of netizens.
But today, these two hashtags drew people in. After watching a short clip shared by a viewer, they were furious.
[What kind of person is Sun Sijia? How dare she treat Sister Tang like that!]
[Sun Sijia is way too arrogant, throwing a tantrum and flinging the card like that.]
[She’s the one who let the vegetables die. Was Teacher Tang wrong to ask for a refund? And she has the nerve to get angry?]
[You don’t even know, Meng Xue tried to help her, and she splashed water all over her!]
[What? Is she insane?]
[Pfft, insane? More like she thinks it’s romantic.]
[What the hell?]
Originally, everyone was still talking about Sun Sijia’s diva behavior. Then, some netizens edited and posted the video of Meng Xue staying behind in the morning to help Sun Sijia with watering, followed by clips of Meng Xue returning drenched and crying at the dining table.
This sent netizens into an uproar.
[Damn, Sun Sijia took the joke too far.]
[What kind of romance is this? Who does something like this for romance?]
[Exactly! Meng Xue only helped her because she thought of her as a junior from the same school. But Sun Sijia went and fantasized that Meng Xue was her girlfriend.]
[Even if they were really a couple, you can’t just do something like this. Isn’t this asking for trouble?]
[Meng Xue would never pair up with Sun Sijia. Our Sister Meng belongs to Teacher Tang!]
[Yeah, this little green tea is delusional.]
The online backlash was intense, and the atmosphere on Tang Jing’s side wasn’t any better.
Meng Xue never expected Sun Sijia to treat Teacher Tang like this. Normally gentle and soft-spoken, she now stepped forward firmly and demanded, “Apologize!”
If anyone else had told her to apologize, Sun Sijia would have snapped back immediately. But since it was her senior, she suddenly felt wronged.
“Senior, it was clearly here.”
“We signed a contract in black and white. You breached it first, so you should compensate us with points,” Meng Xue said, frowning at her.
Sun Sijia grew even more aggrieved. “Senior, we were getting along so well this morning.” Why are you suddenly siding with Tang Jing to bully me?
“Drenching her completely counts as ‘getting along well’?” Tang Jing said coldly.
“I was drenched too! And we were just playing around, splashing water at each other,” Sun Sijia argued.
“Playing?” Tang Jing took a few steps forward, looking down at her. “You pull a stunt like this without considering how others feel, and now you call it ‘playing’?”
Cornered, Sun Sijia blurted out, “You’re not my senior, what right do you have to lecture me? I even saved your mother back then. Don’t tell me you’re ungrateful.”
Tang Jing let out a bitter laugh, too furious to even respond, and turned to leave.
Sun Sijia immediately regretted her words, biting her lip in frustration.
Meng Xue took a step back, her expression serious. “Sun Sijia, I wasn’t happy when you drenched me this morning. I thought it was an accident at first, but then you escalated it. Now you’re just calling it ‘playing’? Sorry, but this senior-junior relationship, let’s just forget it.” With that, she turned and walked away, quickening her pace to catch up with Teacher Tang.
Sun Sijia stood frozen, stunned by her words. She opened her mouth to say something but found her mind blank. Memories of the first time she met her senior in high school flooded in, followed by countless other moments her senior, who had always made her happy and made her smile, now seemed to be drifting further and further away.
“Senior…” she murmured, standing there in a daze.
Tian Qi thought about saying something, but seeing her like this, she held back. After all, Sun Sijia had brought this upon herself. Her gaze fell on the points card on the ground. She picked it up, tucked it into Sun Sijia’s pocket, and left without another word.
The live-stream audience was furious. No one felt sorry for Sun Sijia especially after hearing her bring up the “life-saving favor” to Tang Jing and accusing her of being ungrateful. Viewers were so angry they wished they could reach through the screen and slap her twice.
How could she have the nerve to say such things? Over the past few years, without Tang Jing’s resources, how could she have possibly squeezed into the second-tier and become a rising star in the entertainment industry?
Now, after reaping so many benefits, she still had the audacity to utter those four words, “ungrateful and treacherous.”
Indeed, some people are insatiable. No matter how much or how good the things you give them, they will never be satisfied.
“Teacher Tang.” Meng Xue hurried after her, slightly out of breath, walking side by side with Tang Jing while occasionally glancing at her to see if she was angry.
Noticing the concern on her face, Tang Jing shook her head slightly. “I’m fine.”
It was beyond her imagination that Sun Sijia could say such things, but in a way, she was grateful that Sun Sijia had voiced them.
After all, the original host had become so obsessed with this debt of gratitude that she even followed her mother’s dying wish and married Sun Sijia.
Anyone with a shred of rationality would know that marrying someone like Sun Sijia was just inviting trouble.
Tang Jing wasn’t the original host. Moreover, back when she was with Meng Xue on the mountaintop, she had already subtly addressed this so-called debt of gratitude.
And today, Sun Sijia had directly lit the fuse. Naturally, Tang Jing couldn’t let this opportunity slip away.
