- Chapter 24 - She Just Looks Sketchy [Part 2]
“Sister Tang, did you come here specifically to find me?”
As soon as the door opened, Sun Sijia eagerly ran up to Tang Jing, her eyes bright as she gazed at her, a sweet smile on her face. But when she spotted the senior student behind Tang Jing, her smile stiffened, and she quickly added, “Senior, I knew you’d come to rescue me.”
Tang Jing: “…”
Meng Xue: “…”
Tian Qi and the others in the same room: “…”
The live-stream audience was utterly baffled.
[Wait, what kind of nonsense is this little green tea spouting?]
[What does she mean by “specifically”?]
[Don’t flatter yourself like that, where’s your shame?]
[I’ve got to hand it to this little green tea.]
[Sun Sijia’s greed is just too much, she wants the senior’s affection while also eyeing the resources in Sister Tang’s hands. What kind of dream is she living in?]
[Not much of a beauty, but sure has high hopes.]
After her fallout with Sun Sijia, Tian Qi had stopped holding back. She rolled her eyes right in front of the camera and even remarked sarcastically, “Someone must’ve applied way too much foundation today.”
Otherwise, how could her skin be so thick?
Though she didn’t say it outright, everyone who understood got the implication.
Sun Sijia’s expression flickered briefly before she quickly switched to a pitiful look, blinking innocently. “Senior, I don’t understand what she’s saying.”
Meng Xue: “…Let’s just focus on completing the task.”
The topic was quickly dropped. Though Sun Sijia felt a bit upset, she didn’t say anything more and obediently followed the senior to the next task location, occasionally stealing glances at Tang Jing.
From start to finish, Tang Jing hadn’t spoken to her or even looked her way aside from that one glance when the door opened, she had treated Sun Sijia like air.
This gave Sun Sijia a sense of crisis. She pressed her lips together, lowering her gaze to hide the emotions in her eyes.
After passing through the secret passage, the group arrived at the next area, an open-air location.
“Back Mountain.” The two bold characters carved on the stone tablet left everyone with mixed expressions.
“Now that’s a great name!” Luo Dong exclaimed.
Just as they were about to look around, the sound of a woman weeping reached their ears, a mournful, eerie wail that sent chills down their spines.
Meng Xue, frightened, grabbed onto Teacher Tang’s arm, while Sun Sijia, behind her, clung to Meng Xue’s arm.
Over on the other side, Jian Anping was equally terrified, squeezing himself behind Brother Luo.
Tian Qi, bold and reckless, marched straight toward the source of the sound.
“Tian Qi, slow down!” Luo Dong quickly followed, dragging Jian Anping along.
Tang Jing glanced at Meng Xue, then at Sun Sijia behind her, but said nothing, leading the two of them forward.
The Back Mountain was dark. As they groped their way forward, a red light suddenly illuminated the area ahead revealing a well, beside which sat a woman in a red wedding dress. The weeping was coming from her.
Tian Qi, who had taken the lead, was startled but stood her ground.
Jian Anping buried his face in Brother Luo’s back in fear.
Sun Sijia shrieked, clinging desperately to Meng Xue, who in turn held tightly onto Teacher Tang.
The NPC playing the ghost bride began her scripted performance. Five minutes later, the red light went out, the ghost bride by the well vanished, and the weeping ceased.
“So, the bride was killed by the groom right after the wedding and thrown into the well?” Tian Qi was momentarily stunned.
Luo Dong frowned and said, “It can’t be that simple. There must be some clues we haven’t found yet.”
Tang Jing turned to Meng Xue beside her and asked, “Are you okay?”
Meng Xue nodded, but her grip on Tang Jing’s arm didn’t loosen in the slightest.
This was the first time Sun Sijia had been so close to her senior. Close enough to catch the faint scent of her perfume soft, warm, and irresistibly inviting.
Though it was dark, Tang Jing could still see Sun Sijia pressing herself against Meng Xue, her face almost buried in Meng Xue’s hair as if she were inhaling something. The gesture looked undeniably perverted.
If they were lovers, the action might have seemed merely affectionate, if a bit intimate.
But given their simple senior-junior relationship, it came across as intrusive and downright creepy.
A flicker of disgust crossed Tang Jing’s eyes. She deliberately tugged Meng Xue away, and due to inertia, Sun Sijia was pulled along, stumbling forward. Tang Jing sidestepped, causing Sun Sijia to lose her balance and nearly fall to the ground.
The commotion drew the attention of the three people ahead, who turned to see Sun Sijia awkwardly bracing herself against the wall.
Tian Qi, unaware of what had happened behind them, couldn’t resist mocking Sun Sijia upon seeing her disheveled state. “Wow, you’re really scared, huh? Need to leave early?”
Sun Sijia scoffed, “Mind your own business.” After speaking, she glanced at Tang Jing and her senior.
She wasn’t sure if Tang Jing had done it on purpose, but more importantly, she worried whether her earlier actions had been noticed. Seeing their expressions unchanged, she assumed they hadn’t and quietly sighed in relief, though a hint of guilt lingered. She lowered her head slightly to hide her flustered expression.
“What’s wrong?” Meng Xue quickly sensed something amiss. She didn’t believe Teacher Tang would pull her for no reason.
“Nothing,” Tang Jing replied casually. She wouldn’t mention what had just happened, it wasn’t something pleasant, and hearing about it would likely disgust Meng Xue for a long time.
But she hesitated. After all, Meng Xue was very kind to this junior. After a brief pause, she decided to keep it to herself. No matter what, bringing it up would do Meng Xue no good. It was better to pretend nothing had happened.
After this incident, Sun Sijia didn’t dare get too close again mostly out of guilt though her gaze still drifted toward them involuntarily.
Due to the angle, the camera hadn’t captured the moment, leaving the audience clueless about what had transpired.
All they saw was Tang Jing suddenly pulling Meng Xue, followed by Sun Sijia stumbling away.
Though they didn’t know the details, the viewers were delighted to see the “little green tea” in such a sorry state.
However, some viewers sided with Sun Sijia.
[Tang Jing definitely did that on purpose. She almost made Sun Sijia fall and didn’t even apologize.]
[Big stars really have it easy they don’t even have to apologize for their mistakes.]
[Tang Jing, apologize to Sun Sijia!]
Many viewers jumped on the bandwagon, flooding the chat with demands for an apology.
[Oh please, are people seriously expecting Tang-jie to apologize to Sun Sijia?]
“Holy crap, are you guys insane? Why should Sister Tang apologize to Sun Sijia? She was the one clinging to Meng Xue. If she hadn’t grabbed Meng Xue, would any of this have happened?”
“Anyway, I just think Sister Tang did nothing wrong.”
“Exactly, and that little green tea is so annoying.”
“Can Sun Sijia just stay away from Sister Tang and Meng Xue already!”
No one knew what was happening in the live stream at the moment. Right now, Tang Jing and the others had arrived at the well to start searching for clues.
The bride had been thrown into the well by the groom, so this well must hold some crucial evidence.
“There seem to be some incantations carved around the well,” Luo Dong crouched down, leaning in for a closer look.
The others also knelt down to examine it.
“What do these symbols mean?” Tian Qi asked curiously. “They look pretty shady.”
Luo Dong and the others chuckled. “That’s such a weird way to describe it.”
“I think these might be soul-suppressing charms,” Tang Jing said.
The group turned to her in surprise.
Tang Jing pressed her lips together and explained, “I saw something like this before when filming in a village.”
Tian Qi gulped. “Do things like this really exist in the world?”
The others also looked at her with curiosity.
Tang Jing shook her head. “If you believe, they exist. If you don’t, they don’t.”
Such mystical things were impossible to explain clearly.
