- Chapter 20 - Tang Jing Gains a Little Admirer [Part 1]
When Luo Dong deliberately steered the conversation toward her, Meng Xue had already sensed the content of the card on her forehead and instinctively turned to Teacher Tang for help. In that moment, she completely forgot that her junior was sitting beside her.
Now, hearing her junior nearly blurt out the contents of her card, Meng Xue barely managed to keep her expression under control.
Tian Qi and Sun Sijia had already finished their first round and were now on their second.
Earlier, Tian Qi had exposed Sun Sijia, and now Sun Sijia was retaliating with a vengeance, relentlessly targeting Tian Qi. Her aggression was so intense that even the others felt uncomfortable, let alone Tian Qi herself.
Tian Qi had a fairly good temper, if it were someone more hot-headed, they would’ve already cursed Sun Sijia out by now.
Luo Dong, acting as the mediator, had no choice but to step in. “Sijia, there are others in the game too. You can try guiding them as well.”
The unspoken second half of his sentence was: Stop fixating on Tian Qi alone.
Everyone else understood his meaning, but Sun Sijia pretended not to, even smiling as she said, “I think Tian Qi’s card is much simpler.”
If it were really that simple, she wouldn’t have spent five minutes failing to trap Tian Qi, only to have Tian Qi guess the content of her own card instead.
Luo Dong had already made himself clear, but Sun Sijia remained stubborn. At this point, there was nothing more he could say.
The live-stream audience was thoroughly disgusted by Sun Sijia’s petty behavior.
[She literally nodded earlier, Tian Qi wasn’t wrong to ask her to take the card off. Why is she acting like such a sore loser?]
[Seriously, her aggressive attitude is suffocating.]
[I already disliked her before, but now I hate her even more.]
[I’m only watching this show for Tang Tang. I don’t want to see this little green tea bitch.]
[Watching this little green tea dig her own grave every day makes this battlefield so entertaining.]
Suddenly, Tang Jing spoke up. “Sun Sijia, could you pour me a glass of water?”
“Of course!” Sun Sijia’s eyes lit up, thinking Tang Jing was finally acknowledging her.
Tang Jing tilted her chin toward Tian Qi, who immediately caught on. “Sun Sijia, take the card off your head.”
After five minutes of being relentlessly targeted, Tian Qi had been stewing in frustration. Now, all that resentment dissipated, replaced by sheer satisfaction. She looked at Teacher Tang with admiration.
This time, Sun Sijia didn’t glare at Tian Qi first her gaze went straight to Tang Jing.
She couldn’t believe Tang Jing would side with an outsider against her. Overwhelmed by betrayal, her eyes instantly reddened, her face a picture of disbelief. “Sister Tang…”
[Ahhh, so satisfying!]
[The little green tea’s about to cry, and I’m loving it!]
[Queen Tang is amazing! Serves the little green tea right, karma’s a bitch.]
[Finally, someone’s putting her in her place. The way she kept targeting Tian Qi made me want to slap her twice.]
Sun Sijia could endure humiliation from anyone else after all, as a public figure, such petty setbacks were commonplace.
But when it came to Tang Jing, the flood of grievances was unbearable.
Clearly, the other person had always treated her well, giving her all the good things. There had even been several instances where, when she felt wronged outside, the other person would step in to resolve things for her.
But now, that same person was siding with outsiders to bully her. How could she possibly tolerate that? She stood up and left immediately, leaving Luo Dong and the others exchanging bewildered glances.
“Are we still playing?” Luo Dong asked cautiously.
The atmosphere was unbearably awkward, and the forced smiles on their faces were barely holding up.
“Let’s just call it a day,” Tang Jing was the first to speak.
Given the current situation, it was clear no one could stay any longer. Rather than sitting through the discomfort, it was better to just disband.
On the way back, neither Tang Jing nor Meng Xue spoke a word. The silence was so deep they could hear the rustling of leaves in the breeze and the chirping of insects in the grass.
“Teacher Tang,” Meng Xue suddenly broke the oppressive quiet.
“Hmm?” Tang Jing turned to look at her.
Meng Xue hesitated. There was no trace of disappointment or frustration on her face, just hesitation. “You!” Are you okay?
She had intended to say those words but swallowed them at the last moment, shifting the topic instead. “Are you hungry?”
“Need to watch my diet,” Tang Jing replied.
Meng Xue thought for a moment before asking, “Is it for your next movie?”
“Yes and no.”
Meng Xue looked at her, puzzled.
Tang Jing walked ahead and casually remarked, “Too lazy to move. Easy to gain weight.”
Meng Xue: “…”
[???]
[I think Sister Tang is flexing.]
[No, when she moves, she doesn’t seem lazy at all.]
[But when she’s still, she really doesn’t move much.]
Ever since Tang Jing had helped Tian Qi out of a tight spot, the latter had completely become her devoted fan.
The next day, Tang Jing was woken up by Tian Qi’s voice outside the courtyard. She rose in a daze and stood in the yard for a long while, looking lost.
The audience burst into laughter.
[Every time I see Sister Tang’s waking state, I can’t help but laugh.]
[Since joining this show, Sister Tang has truly descended from her pedestal.]
[I didn’t have much of an impression of her before, but after this show, I’ve become her loyal fan.]
“Teacher Tang!” Tian Qi continued calling from outside the courtyard without pause. Even without seeing her, her voice alone radiated excitement.
Meng Xue stepped out of the kitchen and was about to open the gate when she spotted Tang Jing standing in the yard. She approached and asked, “Teacher Tang?”
Tang Jing looked at her.
Meng Xue instantly realized she wasn’t fully awake yet. She stifled a laugh and quickly excused herself, “I’ll go open the gate.”
“Teacher Meng!” Tian Qi craned her neck to peek inside. “Is Teacher Tang up?”
“She is,” Meng Xue stepped aside.
[Hahaha Tian Qi just now looked like an eager puppy.]
[Peeking in like that, too adorable.]
[The way Tian Qi looks at Sister Tang is exactly like a fangirl.]
[Meng Xue, someone’s trying to steal your Teacher Tang!]
The audience stirred up mischief, reveling in the fun, and the comment section was lively with laughter.
Meng Xue couldn’t see it. All she noticed was that in the time it took her to close the gate, Tian Qi had already planted herself beside Teacher Tang, chattering away more cheerfully than the birds on the branches.
Meng Xue: “…Tian Qi, have you eaten breakfast yet?”
If she didn’t divert Tian Qi’s attention soon, she feared the incessant chatter would annoy Teacher Tang enough to have her thrown out.
Tian Qi instinctively replied, “Not yet…” but after uttering those two words, she abruptly changed her answer, “I’ve already eaten.” She even nodded firmly for emphasis, though her face gradually turned red.
In her excitement to find Teacher Tang, she had completely forgotten about breakfast and hadn’t realized she’d arrived right at mealtime.
Meng Xue didn’t call her out on it and instead said, “I made too much breakfast. Help me finish some, or it’ll go to waste.”
“Okay,” Tian Qi nodded, determined. “I’ll make sure to eat it all properly.”
Meng Xue smiled and headed into the kitchen. After a moment’s thought, Tian Qi followed to help.
Before leaving, she glanced back at Teacher Tang with concern. Ever since she’d arrived, Teacher Tang had been like this, listless and out of sorts. Leaning closer to Meng Xue, she whispered, “Teacher Meng, is Teacher Tang feeling unwell?”
She seemed so sluggish, not her usual self.
Meng Xue also looked back at the woman sitting under the tree and chuckled softly. “Teacher Tang is just waking up her mind. By the time we finish preparing breakfast, she’ll be back to normal.”
Waking up her mind?
This was the first time Tian Qi had heard that Teacher Tang had such a habit, and she found it oddly fascinating.
