- Chapter 13 - Meng Xue Suspects Tang Jing is Angry with Her
At two in the morning, the night was deep, and stars hung in the sky.
The chirping of insects in the grass was incessant.
The alarm rang, and Meng Xue turned it off decisively before getting up, washing up, and changing her clothes.
When she stepped out of her room, she noticed the door opposite was tightly shut, with no sound coming from inside.
The courtyard was quiet, with only the show’s staff around, and there was no sign of Teacher Tang.
Meng Xue wondered could it be that Teacher Tang hadn’t gotten up yet?
After all the preparations last night, if they didn’t complete today’s tasks, the rest of their points would be greatly reduced. More importantly, after spending this time together, she knew Teacher Tang had her own bottom line when it came to certain things.
For example, today’s mountain-climbing task, since she had prepared so much last night, she definitely wouldn’t give up on it today.
Thinking this, Meng Xue decided she had to go knock on the door.
Knock knock.
No response from inside.
She knocked twice more, but there was still no movement. Finally, she had to call out, “Teacher Tang?”
Tang Jing was highly efficient in action, but when it came to sleep, she couldn’t change her habits. Even if she heard the noise now, she just rolled over and continued sleeping.
Meng Xue had no choice but to raise her voice. “Teacher Tang, it’s time to get up.”
In the end, she tried opening the door. Unexpectedly, it wasn’t locked. While thinking about Teacher Tang’s lack of caution, she couldn’t help but step inside.
The cameraman naturally didn’t follow her in, only Meng Xue entered alone.
The room was dark. Meng Xue slowly felt her way forward based on the outlines of the furniture until she reached the bedside. Facing the direction of the headboard, she called out softly, “Teacher Tang, it’s time to get up. Otherwise, we won’t make it up the mountain in time to see the sunrise.”
Climbing the mountain and spending the day there wouldn’t be a problem even if they went after sunrise.
But if they wanted to watch the sunrise from the mountain, they had to head up early otherwise, they’d be too late.
Tang Jing stirred on the bed but then settled back into stillness.
Meng Xue then reached for the bedside table. There was a lamp in that direction in her own room. When the light turned on, her gaze fell on the bed. The moment she caught sight of Teacher Tang’s fair skin exposed in large patches, her face flushed instantly. She quickly turned her back, stammering, “T-Teacher Tang.”
“Hmm?” A lazy, groggy voice came from the bed.
Hearing her response, Meng Xue turned her head to speak but froze in place the moment she met Teacher Tang’s drowsy, dazed gaze. Unconsciously, she swallowed hard.
The sound of her swallowing was especially loud in the quiet room. Meng Xue turned away again, her ears now burning red.
Tang Jing struggled to sit up on the bed, the thin straps of her nightgown slipping off her shoulders. Her long, straight black hair cascaded over her shoulders, making her skin appear even fairer.
She looked at the person standing with her back to the bed, still half-asleep. “Xiao Xue?”
“Y-yes.” Meng Xue didn’t dare turn around, her voice as faint as a mosquito’s hum.
Tang Jing sat up a little straighter, though her mind was still foggy. “Why are you in my room?”
“You didn’t respond when I called, so I pushed the door open.” At this, Meng Xue quickly added, “I’ll leave now.”
“Wait.” Tang Jing’s awareness sharpened slightly. “Could you grab my clothes for me? They’re in the wardrobe.”
“Oh, okay.” Meng Xue’s mind was in a daze, her face flushed with blood, and she obediently pulled open the wardrobe door. Inside were all clothes, and she wasn’t sure which one Teacher Tang wanted to wear. Turning her head slightly, she asked, “Teacher Tang, which one do you? ” The rest of her words died in her throat when she saw the other woman walking toward her barefoot.
“So sleepy.” Tang Jing walked up behind her, resting her chin on Meng Xue’s shoulder, her entire body limp as if boneless, unwilling to move for the moment. “Xiaoxue, can you do me a favor?”
“What?” Meng Xue replied absentmindedly.
“Help me get dressed.”
Meng Xue stiffened in shock, then remembered Teacher Tang was leaning against her and worried she might be uncomfortable, so she relaxed her shoulders slightly. Her words came out stammering, “T-Teacher Tang, this… I…”
“I don’t want to move.” As Tang Jing spoke, her warm breath brushed against Meng Xue’s ear, sending goosebumps prickling down her arms. Her body trembled slightly, her voice shaky. “Teacher Tang, I…”
Seeing the girl on the verge of tears, Tang Jing reined in her teasing and straightened up slightly. “Sorry, I shouldn’t have put you in this spot.”
“No,” Meng Xue blurted out, only realizing afterward that Teacher Tang’s voice sounded a bit more alert now. Not daring to turn around, she faced the wardrobe and said, “Teacher Tang, which clothes do you want? I’ll get them for you.”
The girl was clearly so embarrassed that her ears and neck had turned red, her body trembling with sensitivity, yet she was doing her best to stay composed.
“The tracksuit at the bottom of the wardrobe,” Tang Jing said, then added, “Thanks.”
“N-no problem.” Meng Xue gradually calmed down, her gaze settling on the clothes at the bottom of the wardrobe, a tracksuit, from the same brand as the one she was wearing now.
The only difference was that hers was white, while Teacher Tang’s was black.
They had bought them just before the show, with Teacher Tang saying there would be some physically demanding games and that tracksuits would be more convenient. At the time, Meng Xue had thought they were just for herself, never expecting Teacher Tang to have bought two sets.
Though she told herself it was probably just a coincidence, every time she saw the matching outfits, her heart would race uncontrollably, her mind wandering with thoughts of whether there was some hidden meaning behind Teacher Tang buying paired clothes.
But then she remembered Teacher Tang’s feelings for her junior, and all those wild thoughts and fluttering emotions vanished in an instant.
Lost in her thoughts, she momentarily forgot that Teacher Tang was barely dressed. Turning around with the tracksuit in hand, her eyes were met with vast expanses of bare skin. The woman stood sideways to her, the warm glow of the bedside lamp casting a soft light over her figure. Meng Xue’s gaze was instantly drawn to the curves at her chest, her breath catching in her throat.
With her nightgown off and her arms raised, the movement caused those curves to shift slightly. At that moment, all of Meng Xue’s senses seemed to disappear, her consciousness as if submerged in a vat of wine dizzy and muddled.
“Xiaoxue?”
The cool voice snapped Meng Xue back to reality. Only then did she realize her breathing had grown slightly ragged. She quickly held her breath, lowering her head as she handed over the clothes.
She didn’t dare stay in the room any longer, bolting for the door. If Teacher Tang called her again this time, she’d pretend not to hear.
Once she was out of the room, Teacher Tang didn’t call her back, and Meng Xue let out a huge sigh of relief. But when she looked up, she found herself staring straight into the lens of a camera held by one of the crew members.
Although it was past 2 a.m., there were still many night owl viewers in the livestream. When she entered Tang Yinghou’s room, everyone had been waiting eagerly.
After about ten minutes, she finally emerged, but Meng Xue’s face was flushed red, her eyes rimmed with redness and glistening, looking as if she had just been bullied.
[Holy shit, did Tang Yinghou scold Meng Xue?]
[Look at Meng Xue’s expression, she must have gotten an earful.]
[Ahhh, I really want to know what happened in those ten minutes inside the room.]
The hashtag #MengXueAllegedlyScoldedByTangYinghou# began circulating online, but since not many people saw it, it didn’t cause much of a stir.
Still, it piqued the curiosity of many netizens, who flocked to the livestream to see how Meng Xue had been “bullied” by Tang Yinghou was the actress throwing her weight around?
However, without any concrete evidence, people couldn’t say much. But that didn’t stop attention-seeking bloggers from spinning wild tales just for clicks. One post even claimed in detail that Tang Yinghou, leveraging her star status, had bullied Meng Xue, the newly returned leader of the MS1 girl group, as if the blogger had witnessed it firsthand.
Some clueless night owl netizens left comments under the post, blindly following the blogger’s lead and badmouthing Tang Yinghou.
Many others, however, remained rational and clicked into the livestream of the variety show Diverse Life to see for themselves whether the blogger’s claims were true.
The moment they entered the stream, they saw Tang Yinghou stepping out of the room and running into Meng Xue, who had just come in from the yard.
The onlookers held their breath.
Tang Yinghou simply said, “Thanks for earlier.”
Those four words shattered Meng Xue’s attempt at composure. Her face instantly turned crimson, and she couldn’t even meet the other woman’s gaze. Stumbling over her words, she stammered, “N-no problem.” Annoyed at her own stutter, she forced herself to steady her voice. “I’ll go pack the ingredients into the insulated bags.”
“Alright.” A faint smile played on Tang Jing’s lips as she headed to the yard to stretch.
[So…?]
[That’s it?]
[The blogger said Tang Yinghou was throwing her weight around and made Meng Xue cry?]
[Unless it was that kind of making her cry…]
[Damn, that unexpected innuendo nearly broke my back.]
[Oh shit, I think the person above might be onto something.]
[Meng Xue’s reaction doesn’t look like she was scolded to tears.]
[More like she was teased to tears, if you catch my drift.]
[Hey, does anyone remember Sun Sijia?]
[Who’s Sun Sijia? Get her out of here!]
Thanks to the blogger’s ambiguous post, a wave of lurking night owls surfaced, and the livestream suddenly became lively.
The assistant director, who had initially panicked over the influencer’s post and considered waking up the main director, now realized it wasn’t necessary. In fact, thanks to the blogger’s baseless rumors, the livestream at 2:30 a.m. had unexpectedly gained traction.
By 2:40 a.m., Tang Jing and Meng Xue set off, followed by the cameraman, assistants, the director assigned to their day-long mountain shoot, and two additional crew members.
Originally, the production team had assumed the guests wouldn’t attempt this challenge until at least two weeks into filming. Yet here they were, on just the second day of broadcast, already taking it on.
Moreover, these two guests were newcomers, one was a double-award-winning actress who always sparked discussions, and the other was a girl group member who had just returned to the country.
Their pairing had already stirred up quite a buzz among netizens yesterday.
Now, with the two of them alone on the mountain today, who knew what kind of sparks would fly?
The assistant director rubbed his hands together in anticipation.
