Xia Qiuyuan followed her grandmother back to their ancestral village for the funeral of a distant grand-aunt. First, she encountered a sparrow-cat at the village entrance that refused to leave her side; then, at the funeral, she unexpectedly inherited a portion of her grand-aunt’s estate.

In Xia Qiuyuan’s memory, she had never had much interaction with this particular relative. Among the inheritance were several diaries. Upon reading them, Xia Qiuyuan discovered that her grand-aunt actually had an elder sister with the exact same name as her.

However, that sister died young—hung to death in an old factory district in 1984 while investigating a case. At that point, the diary entries cut off for three years. The first entry of 1987 simply read: “Qin Yu, death.”

Xia Qiuyuan jokingly called it the “Death Note.”

Then, she died from overwork in the modern world and woke up as that same grand-aunt’s sister who was destined to die young. Xia Qiuyuan: “…” Be brave, Xiaxia! No difficulty is too great!

In the modern era, she was known as a “human police dog” for her tracking skills. Even in the 1980s, where high-tech tools are non-existent and everything relies on experience and pure deduction, she finds catching killers to be a form of “steady happiness.”

The only problem is her neighbor, Qin Yu—a woman who is completely incapable of taking care of herself and who, according to the diaries, died shortly after Xia Qiuyuan’s own original death. Xia Qiuyuan: “I must have owed you a debt in my past life.” Qin Yu merely pursed her lips and smiled.

It didn’t help that Qin Yu was exceptionally beautiful, her cheongsam fluttering elegantly as she spoke in a gentle voice, constantly calling her:

“Comrade Xiao Xia.”

“Comrade Xiao Xia, do you have any soy sauce left?”

“Comrade Xiao Xia, I’m hungry.”

“Comrade Xiao Xia…”

Xia Qiuyuan: “Stop calling me! Both my ears can hear you!”

Trying to figure out what was on Qin Yu’s mind was, in Xia Qiuyuan’s opinion, harder than profiling ten violent criminals. Xiaxia worries, Xiaxia sighs, and finally, Xiaxia rolls up her sleeves to start rescuing this “life-skills idiot.”

Qin Yu is an agronomist who returned from Hong Kong, specializing in fruit tree cultivation to help local farmers increase their income.

The first time she saw Xia Qiuyuan, the officer was pinning a suspect to the ground with a shoulder throw. When her low-quality handcuffs jammed, Xia Qiuyuan simply knocked the criminal unconscious with a single hand-chop.

At the time, Qin Yu was standing by the road wearing a headscarf, her face covered in dust from the fields. Xia Qiuyuan opened her mouth and called her: “Auntie.”

Qin Yu, who had just turned twenty-two and returned with her Master’s degree: “…” I am such a stunning beauty, and you call me ‘Auntie’? Are you sick, ‘niece’?

Later, when she was pinned to the bed by Officer Xia, Qin Yu laughed brilliantly. “Dear niece, we can’t do this. It’s against the social order.” Watching the frustrated look on Officer Xia’s face, Qin Yu felt she had finally won a round!
