That Girl Who Skipped Class — You're In Big Trouble! - Chapter 7
Chapter 7
At 9:20 AM, today was the sophomore fundamental course for the Art and Design and Architecture departments. Xiao Xuan walked into the classroom, water cup in hand, as usual. She ignored the dozens of heated stares from the audience and glanced toward the front row, her eyes dimming slightly.
She wasn’t there; she hadn’t come to class.
Her phone vibrated with a buzz in her pocket. Xiao Xuan took it out and saw a message.
“Tell me, where are we meeting today?” The profile picture belonged to a woman with neat short hair, her elegantly styled face turned sideways toward the camera.
Xiao Xuan pursed her lips looking at the phone and typed: “The coffee shop by Binjiang Road, the one we went to last time.”
“Hehe, busy Miss Xiao. If you hadn’t messaged me, I would have thought you disappeared.”
“Okay, enough chatting, I need to teach. See you later.”
…
Song Yingming arrived on the second floor of the coffee shop and saw Xiao Xuan sitting by the bar, looking at her phone. “Aiya, Xuanxuan!” She placed her dark blue bag on a chair and sat down next to Xiao Xuan.
“Hello, one heavy latte,” Xiao Xuan called the waiter and smiled at Song Yingming: “What would you like?”
“Cappuccino, please, thank you.”
“You’ve lost weight since we last met six months ago, oh,” Song Yingming playfully pinched Xiao Xuan’s cheek with both hands. “You little rascal, you finally remembered to invite me out? What have you been busy with lately?”
“Applying for tenure, taking on projects.”
“Hehe, you haven’t changed a bit,” Song Yingming withdrew her hand. “So, did you call me out just to catch up? I don’t believe it.”
Xiao Xuan didn’t answer, asking instead, “How have you been?”
“Just moved to a new place. I’m busy with renovations. By the way, you need to get me a housewarming gift. Anything too cheap is absolutely out of the question.”
Xiao Xuan nodded, thought for a moment, and said, “Actually, I wanted to ask you something.”
“Of course I knew! How many years have we been classmates? You, the Iceberg Beauty, must have run into some trouble and have no one to talk to, so you came to ask me, Miss Song, right? Go on, I’m listening.”
“I met a young one. She’s quite lovely.”
“Haha, is Miss Xiao falling in love? That’s a rare sight,” Song Yingming widened her eyes. “What does she look like? Do you have a photo? Let me see.”
Xiao Xuan handed her the phone. On the screen was a girl with chestnut wavy long hair, grinning widely, her features exquisite. “Tsk tsk, so youthful. She’s a little beauty. Your taste hasn’t changed all these years. This kid looks a bit like Eileen, clean and innocent. But don’t be as serious this time as you were in Australia. In my experience, all young people around the world are not very steady.”
Xiao Xuan quietly spoke up: “Her father is An Zixiang, Cheng Fei’s current boss. Cheng Fei’s career in Australia has been smooth sailing, all thanks to his support.”
“What?!” Song Yingming was astonished.
“I only found out two days ago.”
“So what are you thinking? Are you getting close to her to get revenge on Cheng Fei?”
Xiao Xuan touched her earring and said seriously, “To be honest, when I first heard the news, the thought did cross my mind. But she’s genuinely lovely, and I don’t want to hurt her for real.”
Hearing this, Song Yingming took Xiao Xuan’s hand on the table: “Xuanxuan, it’s all in the past now. Let’s both stop looking back. If you like this kid, give it a try with her. Don’t torment yourself. Think about your younger brother who is still in university. It’s better to avoid trouble, okay?”
Xiao Xuan chuckled: “Alright, look at you, acting like you’re facing a formidable enemy.”
Song Yingming was displeased: “I’m worried about you! Look at you, this iceberg, all alone. Having me as your best friend is truly a blessing from your past life. Shouldn’t you cherish me properly?”
“Yes, yes,” Xiao Xuan stuck out her tongue, poured sugar into her coffee cup, and stirred it twice. “How are things with your partner?”
“Good, my ass. That bastard became a small boss and is out fooling around all day, coming home after midnight every day, claiming to be discussing ‘big clients’,” Song Yingming looked disgusted. “Discussing clients my foot! The last time she got drunk, I went to pick her up, and late at night, there were several delicate little girls calling her ‘Manager Zhang’ this and ‘Manager Zhang’ that. It gave me the creeps. I wish I could kick her out tomorrow.”
“Okay, kick her out then,” Xiao Xuan picked up her cup and took a sip of coffee. “I’d be very curious to see how long you last without Zhang Xiaoxiao.”
Song Yingming was instantly speechless.
