That Girl Who Skipped Class — You're In Big Trouble! - Chapter 4
Chapter 4
The month-long summer vacation had come to an end in a hurry. Li Chenchen bought a plane ticket back to C City the day after arguing with An Qianyang. During this time, Li Chenchen tried to reconcile again, but An Qianyang responded indifferently.
Looking at the sparkling clean apartment tidied by Ah Mu, An Qianyang sighed softly.
Ah Mu had been a nanny in An Zixiang’s house since she was 13, and she watched An Qianyang grow up. After An Qianyang got into university, An Zixiang asked her to go to the school every now and then to take care of his precious daughter.
“Yangyang, what’s wrong? You’ve been sighing constantly these past two days since you came back from Australia. Is my cooking not to your liking? Or did you argue with Chenchen again?” Ah Mu saw her usually cheerful young lady in a gloomy mood and couldn’t help but ask.
“Ah Mu, do you think it’s possible for one girl to like another girl?”
“Yangyang, are you… are you… are you in love with a girl?”
“No, I’m just curious. I saw two girls being affectionate in Australia a couple of days ago.”
“Well… it shouldn’t be strange for a girl to like a girl. Although I haven’t seen much of the world, you saw the president of Apple, what’s his name, Warehouse? Didn’t they say he has a boyfriend? Maybe the atmosphere is more open now, and many people who like the same sex are willing to express themselves.”
Ah Mu said as she opened the refrigerator and put the washed fruits inside.
“Then how do you determine if you’re just curious about the other person, or if it’s that kind of liking?” An Qianyang sat up from the leather sofa, her eyes wide as she looked at Ah Mu, who was tidying up nearby.
“Well, I always feel that whether it’s liking the same sex or the opposite sex, the feeling should be the same. So, being curious about someone might be a prelude to liking them?” Ah Mu turned her head, smiling at her. “Or, if you interact with her more, won’t you figure out your feelings?”
After hearing this, An Qianyang quickly sat down at the desk by the window and opened her computer to search for something.
Two minutes later, Ah Mu heard a timid voice from afar: “I really didn’t fall for a girl, don’t get the wrong idea.”
“Alright, alright, I know, my dear young lady. I’ve closed the door for you. I’ll come back next week. Call me in advance if you need anything.”
…
9:20 AM.
The large lecture hall was packed with people. Xiao Xuan walked into the classroom with her textbooks and laptop.
She connected her computer and unconsciously glanced at the students below. Among a group of bespectacled, sharp-eyed students in the front row, a girl was resting her chin in her hand, her eyes closed. Her brown wavy long hair fell, revealing a small part of her fair face, with delicate features vaguely visible.
Xiao Xuan gently raised an eyebrow.
“Alright, students, let’s start the class.”
The noisy classroom quieted down. Xiao Xuan’s peripheral vision caught several flashes from phone cameras.
“Let me introduce myself first. My name is Xiao Xuan, and I am your teacher for the Computer Fundamentals course this sophomore year,” she placed both hands flat on the table. “I hope we can have a pleasant time together this year.”
“My class has only three principles: First, no taking photos. Second, no checking attendance. Third, absolutely no slacking off.”
She said as she picked up a marker and wrote her name on the board.
Whispers floated into her ears from the audience:
“Wow, our school has such a beautiful teacher, tsk tsk tsk…”
“Her looks just raised the average of all the teachers in our school…”
“We don’t have to come to class, oh my goodness… Teacher Xiao’s voice is so nice…”
Xiao Xuan turned around and smiled at the students below.
“I’ll give you 10 minutes to take out your books and flip through them. I’ll ask everyone a question later,” she took a few more steps forward. “Those few students who were talking behind my back just now, and the two students taking photos in the back, you can’t hide, you know.”
The classroom immediately fell silent, with only the sound of turning pages remaining.
When An Qianyang groggily opened her eyes, she saw a red high-waisted skirt. She looked up and saw Xiao Xuan’s dark, shining eyes looking right at her.
“Student, where is your book?”
An Qianyang looked at the empty desktop.
“I don’t bring books. I read on my computer.”
Xiao Xuan continued to look at her with a half-smile. A girl with glasses next to An Qianyang quickly handed her book over: “Teacher Xiao, I’ll share it with her.”
Xiao Xuan nodded and walked towards the back of the lecture hall.
She really did see her. An Qianyang had specifically checked the course schedule yesterday and found that the professor for the first class on the opening day was actually Xiao Xuan. So, she uncharacteristically got up early, rushed to the classroom at 8:30, and even deliberately sat in the front few rows. Unfortunately, her eyelids wouldn’t cooperate, and she started fighting sleep before class even started, falling asleep in a daze.
I wonder if she still remembers me? An Qianyang thought silently.
Xiao Xuan returned to the podium and knocked on the lectern.
“Time’s up. Let’s start by answering a question. What is a computer?”
The girl next to An Qianyang who lent her the book raised her hand.
Xiao Xuan nodded, and the girl stood up and pushed up her glasses. “A computer is a revolutionary tool. Its emergence has improved the efficiency of our human society and accelerated the pace of today’s information society.”
“Very good.”
Xiao Xuan then pointed to the back row: “Over here, the boy in the black hoodie in the second-to-last row.”
The boy stood up straight and said loudly: “A computer is playing LOL, it’s a girlfriend, it’s instant noodles and brotherhood all day and night.”
All the boys burst into laughter.
“Not bad, I also like playing LOL.” Xiao Xuan smiled slightly, and the boys in the back row cheered even louder.
Xiao Xuan’s gaze returned to An Qianyang: “This student who reads on her computer, tell us what you think.”
An Qianyang felt a panic in her heart under her gaze. She braced herself and stood up, saying casually, “I think a computer is a design. It helps us construct the world we imagine. It can help us solve problems and also express our love.”
Xiao Xuan’s eyes lit up: “That’s interesting. You can sit down.”
…
Ten minutes after class ended, An Qianyang watched the crowd of students still surrounding Xiao Xuan.
She had to admit that Xiao Xuan’s class was excellent. She turned the dull first lesson on the history of computer development into a “Computer Saga.” Three original video clips, combined with her excellent eloquence and extensive references, made even her, who usually didn’t like listening to lectures, engrossed.
“Or, if you interact with her more, won’t you figure out your feelings?” Ah Mu’s words echoed in her mind.
Xiao Xuan said she could compensate her, but she hadn’t figured out how to take that step yet.
