Take Away My Sickly Beauty [Quick Transmigration] - Chapter 2
Having recently returned to her home country, Ye Wuming was still struggling to adapt to the changes in her hometown; many shops had relocated. Consequently, the place they eventually chose for dinner was recommended by Chen Jiyu.
Ye Wuming was not one to indulge in superficial elegance, and coincidentally, neither was Chen Jiyu. Thus, the two selected a restaurant with excellent food but a mundane storefront. This made their magnificent dresses feel entirely out of place with the surroundings, earning them several lingering glances from the staff.
When it came time to sit and order, Chen Jiyu naturally deferred the right to the superior, Ye Wuming.
However, the other woman merely knitted her brows piteously and pouted with a touch of childishness, saying, “I don’t know what any of these are?”
Her clear, melodious voice, when used for acting spoiled, made one’s heart melt. Chen Jiyu couldn’t help but cough lightly to mask her loss of composure, thinking to herself how strange this person was.
For a grown woman to act so spoiled without it feeling forced at all it was truly peculiar.
“Do you prefer sweet or savory?” Out of necessity, Chen Jiyu took over the heavy responsibility of ordering.
“Sweet!” Ye Wuming immediately beamed with joy.
“Plain water or juice?” Alcohol was ruthlessly struck off the list by CEO Chen; a child at the age for acting spoiled was not suited for drinking.
“Plain water,” Ye Wuming continued to smile brightly, showing no displeasure at being forbidden from alcohol.
Of course, she hadn’t wanted to drink in the first place.
Chen Jiyu quickly finished ordering. After handing the menu to the waiter, silence fell over the table once more.
Chen Jiyu rehearsed her mental draft several times before summoning the courage to speak: “President Ye, there is a partnership I would like to discuss with you.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Wuming instantly sat up straight, switching into work mode. The spoiled “big cat” transformed in an instant into a hidden predator of the forest; her eyes became sharp and cold, fixed intently on the prey named “profit,” determined not to let it escape.
This overwhelming pressure from a superior actually made Chen Jiyu feel a bit breathless. The mermaid from the shallow shoals had transformed into a deity upon a deep-sea throne, demanding awe and submission.
Nevertheless, she withstood the pressure and fully articulated the value of the Chen Corporation.
She hoped to secure an opportunity to collaborate with Cupid, promising that the Chen family would never disappoint Ye Wuming.
The perfect hunter fastidiously evaluated the quality of the prey, finally spotting a point of potential in Chen Jiyu’s words that made her eyes light up.
She liked the heart of the prey the heart that pumped blood through the entire body, pulsating with the breath of life. This was the part that tempted her most, and the ruler of this “heart” was named Chen Jiyu.
A good predator has enough patience to wait for the prey to walk through the door. Thus, she was in no rush; instead, in a good mood, she readily agreed to Chen Jiyu’s request.
To be honest, Cupid didn’t care much for the profits in H City, as the “main course” the Ye Corporation had already been swallowed by her long ago. But her “sunshine” was here, so she was bringing Cupid here to interject.
Chen Jiyu hadn’t expected the cooperation to be settled so easily; she felt a sense of unreality, as if in a trance.
Fortunately, a waiter arrived with the first dish, allowing her drifting spirit to return to her body.
“I will have someone draft the contract after I return,” Ye Wuming’s promise acted as a reassuring pill for Chen Jiyu. Subsequently, she picked up her chopsticks, blinked, and said briskly, “For now, let us enjoy the delicious food.”
Speaking of which, she hadn’t eaten hometown cuisine in a long time. Upon tasting it again, the familiar flavors made her sigh with contentment. After three years, she still couldn’t get used to Western food.
Seeing Ye Wuming eating so happily and heartily, Chen Jiyu couldn’t help but eat a little more as well.
However, she had overestimated her stomach. Long periods of high-pressure work and the precarious state of the Chen Corporation often made her forget to eat.
Irregular eating habits had caused stomach problems, which she hid by self-medicating. Now, even slightly greasy food made her feel nauseous.
As she covered her mouth and rushed out of the private room, she could imagine how pathetic she looked. Retching violently in the restroom, the woman cursed herself for making a scene at such an important dinner; she might have ruined everything.
Chen Jiyu turned on the faucet to wash away the mess. Her slender frame trembled slightly; she even conjured up images of Ye Wuming’s disappointed and disgusted expression.
Suddenly, a warm hand rested on her back, patting her gently to calm her down. A hand adorned with a sapphire bracelet making the wrist look exceptionally delicate and white proffered a clean, soft tissue.
“Are you alright?” Ye Wuming’s voice was filled with concern.
Chen Jiyu took the tissue and kept her head down, hurriedly wiping her mouth. She was glad she hadn’t tied her hair up today; her long hair draped down to hide her face, giving this humiliated adult a bit of space to pick up the pieces of her shattered dignity.
“I’m sorry.” After vomiting, Chen Jiyu’s voice was hoarse, but her apology was sincere, making it impossible to stay angry at her.
But Ye Wuming didn’t see it that way. She frowned and took Chen Jiyu by the shoulder, firmly forcing her to stand up, then used the tissue to wipe the water stains from the corner of her lips.
“Why are you apologizing?” Her expression was one of confusion and disapproval. “You don’t need to apologize for your body feeling unwell.”
Ye Wuming’s actions gave Chen Jiyu a strange sensation and a flutter in her heart. She couldn’t help but take a step back. The other woman let go of her easily and tossed the soiled tissue into the wastebasket.
This natural movement convinced Chen Jiyu that she was overthinking things.
She merely brushed aside the long hair that was wet and sticking to her neck, whispering, “But it’s a damper.”
After all, the other person was eating happily, and then she went and vomited—anyone would feel uncomfortable about that.
“If someone thinks you are a damper because you aren’t feeling well, then you must stay away from them. That is not a good person,” Ye Wuming countered.
She turned on the faucet to wash her hands, watching the somewhat disheveled and weakened woman through the mirror, lowering her gaze to hide her heartache.
“Even if you want to say sorry, you shouldn’t say it to me. You should say sorry to your own body. It has stayed up late with you, worked with you, and accompanied you through setbacks and happiness. It has been with you longer than anyone else.”
“But because it suffered an ‘occupational injury,’ you feel angry at it and feel the need to apologize to others. This is like an unscrupulous boss getting angry at an injured subordinate and withholding medical fees. It’s not right.”
Ye Wuming dried her hands and looked at Chen Jiyu with a serious expression. “You should say to it: ‘I’m sorry, you’ve worked hard.’ Don’t always go looking for faults in yourself. Many times, the fault isn’t yours, is it?”
For example, that dirt road the Liu family used to make things difficult for people that road caused many women in long dresses to lose face. Those with lower status than the Lius could only find fault in themselves, blaming themselves for wearing long dresses.
But Ye Wuming could directly say the Liu family was wrong, because her net worth and power were right there.
“So, take care of yourself, and then climb to a higher position. Up there, no one will dare to think you are a damper.”
Chen Jiyu was stunned for a moment. To be honest, she never thought she would one day be given “chicken soup for the soul” by a girl seven years younger than her.
Though the “soup” was a bit cliché, it was undeniably true.
A trace of a smile finally appeared on Chen Jiyu’s cold, pale face. She expressed her thanks: “You’re right. Thank you.”
Ye Wuming gave a hum of acknowledgement but stared straight at her, appearing dissatisfied with the answer.
Seeing this, Chen Jiyu’s smile deepened, and even her cold eyes softened with relief. She added, “And thank you to myself, too.”
“Yes, yes, yes!” Ye Wuming’s eyes instantly lit up, and she nodded repeatedly.
That was more like it.
Her Jiyu was so excellent; she would never allow anyone to belittle her—not even Jiyu herself.
