Striving for Harmony After Transmigrating as an Alpha Female Supporting Character - Chapter 18
Ai Xiaoyu’s thoughts wandered as she ate cake, watching those around her unwrap gifts.
Cheng Wang had come as well. Although Ai Xiaoyu hadn’t told him about the birthday, he had heard about it from somewhere. He gifted a lipstick; Ai Xiaoyu glanced at the shade and realized it was a classic case of “straight man aesthetic” it matched Cheng Wang’s charcoal-dark complexion perfectly.
Ning Xi had refused to come, her reason being that Ai Xiaoyu had been “enchanted” by that woman and would one day wake up and return to their original battle lines. However, she still sent some snacks; after all, she had to show some respect for a birthday party hosted by Ai Xiaoyu.
Ai Xiaoyu helped Jing Nianxun accept all these gifts. Jing Nianxun wasn’t very good at expressing gratitude, but Ai Xiaoyu was thick-skinned and didn’t hesitate to haul everything up to the second floor.
By the time she came back down, many people had gathered to play various games. Jing Nianxun wasn’t particularly close to anyone, so after greeting a few people, she sat off to the side.
Someone brought up the topic of dating, lamenting, “We’re almost adults, and I haven’t even held a little Omega’s hand.”
Another person burst out laughing, “Why don’t you just pair up with someone from the Alpha group? AA relationships are common now anyway. Omegas are rare specimens, stop daydreaming.”
Jing Nianxun listened to their chatter in silence.
The person suddenly remembered the birthday girl and teased, “Nianxun, you’re an Omega, right? You look like one so beautiful. You never told us.”
Walking over from the stairs, Ai Xiaoyu thought silently: Don’t be fooled by her appearance; she’s an Alpha with a heart more ruthless than anyone’s.
Jing Nianxun hesitated and didn’t answer. Another person whispered, “Stop it. I think she hasn’t differentiated yet.”
The voice wasn’t loud, but those nearby heard it and looked up at Jing Nianxun in surprise.
Not having differentiated at seventeen essentially meant one might never differentiate. To put it kindly, it was a physiological flaw; to put it bluntly, it was a disability.
The atmosphere became awkward. Everyone felt pity for Jing Nianxun, and they lowered their heads in silence.
Seeing this, Ai Xiaoyu immediately stepped forward to draw Jing Nianxun away. “Xiao Xun, can you help me get some plates? Someone knocked theirs over.”
Jing Nianxun stood up at once and headed to the kitchen.
Once she was gone, Ai Xiaoyu slowly scanned the group and said, “Xiao Xun won’t stay undifferentiated forever. You should know that if differentiation happens late, there’s another possibility: she might turn into a high-level Alpha or Omega.”
The others looked at each other and chimed in, “Exactly! Jing Nianxun is so pretty; she’ll definitely be a high-level Omega in the future!”
Ai Xiaoyu thought: No, the person holding the script is telling you she’s an Alpha.
In the evening, after the party dispersed, the drunken guests helped each other away. Jing Nianxun helped the nanny tidy up the scattered trash and streamers. By the time Ai Xiaoyu returned, the living room was spotless once again.
Jing Nianxun took her clothes to shower. Ai Xiaoyu stood at the bathroom door, racking her brain for a way to comfort her.
She must have taken those words to heart! If she had known, she wouldn’t have invited them; they had ruined Jing Nianxun’s mood.
Ai Xiaoyu stood on the bathroom rug, irritably doodling in the pile of the fabric with her toe. A moment later, Jing Nianxun came out in her pajamas and saw a heart drawn on the rug.
Jing Nianxun: “?”
Ai Xiaoyu grabbed her hand with a serious expression and said, “Xiao Xun, whether you differentiate or not, I won’t look down on you! And believe me, you will differentiate! Worst case scenario, I can’t find an Omega anyway, so we two single dogs can just live together!”
Jing Nianxun: …Has she misunderstood something?
Ai Xiaoyu even pumped her fist after speaking, looking determined. Jing Nianxun had no intention of revealing that she might actually be an Omega for now, so she just lowered her eyes and whispered a thank you.
Ai Xiaoyu seemed to breathe a sigh of relief and went upstairs.
Brushing her hair in front of the mirror, Jing Nianxun looked at her reflection, a smile gradually spreading across her lips. How long had it been since she was this happy? Ai Xiaoyu seemed to think she was sad about those comments, but she wasn’t; tonight was the happiest she had been in a long time.
Her birthday had been remembered and celebrated even if that person was Ai Xiaoyu, the one whose name she had written in her diary countless times only to tear the pages out.
A short while later, Ai Xiaoyu rushed back downstairs, her face filled with worry and apology.
She stammered, “Nianxun your bed.”
Jing Nianxun returned to her room and stared at the large sunken hole in the middle of her mattress, feeling completely at a loss.
The culprit Mimi the stray cat was wagging its tail, looking at her with a piece of dried fish in its mouth, showing zero remorse. Because Ai Xiaoyu’s parents weren’t home tonight, Jing Nianxun had brought Mimi up, wanting to give the cat a full meal.
…But that’s no reason for you to break the bed!
Jing Nianxun fell into deep thought. How exactly did a cat break a bed?
Ai Xiaoyu looked at Jing Nianxun with pity. What she was thinking was: How has Jing Nianxun slept on such a poor-quality bed for so long that even a cat could break it? Or perhaps Jing Nianxun was so thin that she could sleep soundly in a spot that a cat could collapse.
Either way, the female lead was just too pitiable!
Ai Xiaoyu picked up the dazed Mimi and glanced at the hole in the bed again. Confirming it was unusable, she said to Jing Nianxun, “Nianxun, why don’t you sleep with me tonight? Tomorrow when my parents get back, I’ll have them set up a spare room.”
It seemed like the only option, unless she wanted to sleep on the floor.
Jing Nianxun hesitated. “I could actually just sleep on the sofa…”
Ai Xiaoyu waved her hands frantically. “No, no, no! If anyone sleeps on the sofa, it’ll be me. You sleep in my bed!”
Are you kidding? If the readers saw the female lead sleeping on a sofa, they’d drown me in spit!
Jing Nianxun seemed startled by her intense reaction. She gave Ai Xiaoyu a long look and didn’t refuse again.
