Striving for Harmony After Transmigrating as an Alpha Female Supporting Character - Chapter 13
Ai Xiaoyu sat in the car, humming a tune all the way home; even the driver glanced at her curiously several times.
It was still school hours, and Ai Xiaoyu had returned home with a medical leave slip. Ms. Ding Chengying was startled to see her and asked what had happened.
Ai Xiaoyu produced the slip. “My rut arrived; I’m feeling a bit unwell.”
Ding Chengying immediately rushed to her side, looking her up and down carefully to ensure not a single hair was missing, then pulled Ai Xiaoyu into her arms and ruffled her hair.
She said excitedly, “Our little Yu’s first rut! You are going to grow into a true Alpha!”
After her initial differentiation, Ai Xiaoyu had not changed much; there had been no significant increase in height or weight, and she was even slightly shorter than Jing Nianxun. However, after the first rut, her appearance would undergo a noticeable transformation, becoming more like an Alpha and no longer the delicate little princess she was before.
Feeling the original host’s mother stroking her hair, Ai Xiaoyu felt waves of warmth. In her original world, “Ai Yu” did not have a good relationship with her mother, and no one had ever been so anxious or worried for her.
At this moment, she truly envied the original host for having such a loving family and such privileged conditions. It was a pity the original owner didn’t cherish them and did such terrible things to the heroine.
Now that the OOC restriction was lifted, she would return to being herself and show a completely different Ai Xiaoyu!
By dinner time, Jing Nianxun finally arrived home.
Ai Xiaoyu peeked down from the second floor, trying to gauge Jing Nianxun’s expression. Jing Nianxun was wearing her neat school uniform and carrying her backpack properly. Her expression was calm, no different from usual.
As if sensing her gaze, Jing Nianxun glanced toward the second floor. Ai Xiaoyu immediately shrunk back and ducked into her room.
Back in her room with the door closed, she breathed a sigh of relief. Thinking about it, Jing Nianxun had not yet differentiated. Even if she had, she was supposed to be an Alpha in the original plot, so she probably wouldn’t have had much of a reaction.
Perhaps she was the only one who had reacted so violently.
However, as a prospective Alpha, it was still quite shameful to have bitten another Alpha, so Ai Xiaoyu intended to apologize.
At dinner, Ms. Ding Chengying had specially gone out to buy groceries and cooked personally, even brewing a soup to “nourish” Ai Xiaoyu’s body.
Jing Nianxun sat opposite them, staring at her bowl and chopsticks. Ever since Ai Xiaoyu had invited her to the table last time, the nanny reminded her to come for meals every time. However, she still held her small bowl and only took food from the dishes directly in front of her.
“Nianxun helped me today,” Ai Xiaoyu said suddenly, putting her chopsticks down mid-meal. “My rut came on too suddenly, and she was the one who sent me to the infirmary.”
She gave Jing Nianxun a wink as she spoke. Jing Nianxun, who was chewing slowly, almost choked.
“Oh?” Ding Chengying was very interested in the story. “She helped you? Were you in the classroom? It’s dangerous for a rut to hit suddenly in class.”
Ai Xiaoyu coughed. “I won’t go into details, but in short, Xiao Xun helped me out a lot.”
The address had changed from Nianxun to Xiao Xun. Ding Chengying was exceptionally attentive to her daughter and naturally noticed the shift. She knew Ai Xiaoyu had always hated Jing Nianxun. If Ding Chengying weren’t Jing Nianxun’s aunt and felt the need to be somewhat restrained, she might have kicked the girl out of the house long ago.
Therefore, hearing Ai Xiaoyu not only say that Jing Nianxun helped her but also use such an affectionate nickname was quite a surprise.
“Well… thank you then, Xiao Xun.” Ding Chengying took Jing Nianxun’s bowl. “Let me serve you some soup; this is very nourishing.”
Jing Nianxun did not refuse, but she glanced at Ai Xiaoyu several times before quickly lowering her head to toy with her chopsticks again.
After dinner, while Jing Nianxun returned to her room for homework, Ding Chengying called Ai Xiaoyu into the living room.
“Little Yu, Mama wants to ask you,” Ding Chengying looked at the closed door on the second floor. “The things you said during dinner… well, I mean…”
She struggled to find the right words.
Ai Xiaoyu spoke directly. “I truly am grateful to Xiao Xun. She is actually a very good person, and we are seatmates at school. The things I did and said before were because I was immature. I’ve grown up now, Mama. I’m no longer that willful child.”
Ding Chengying looked at her deeply and sighed, saying nothing more as she stroked Ai Xiaoyu’s hair.
Ai Xiaoyu felt an immense weight lift after saying those words. Since transmigrating into the book, she had been forced to act according to the original host’s personality and had done many things against her conscience. Now that she could be herself, she felt liberated in both body and mind.
Ding Chengying’s final sigh seemed to carry a lot of helplessness. In that moment, Ai Xiaoyu realized that this mother might not be the stereotypical villain portrayed in the original book at least to Ai Xiaoyu, she was a good mother.
Ai Xiaoyu turned to walk upstairs to her room. As she rounded the stairs, she saw Jing Nianxun’s door slam shut with a loud bang.
“…”
So, she heard everything I just said?
