- Chapter 1 - Transmigrated into the Villainess
Ai Yu was dead.
She had been hit by a car while reading a novel.
As a twenty-six-year-old “Buddhist-style” corporate drone who had been out of college for four years, her greatest hobby was reading novels. She had read everything—from overbearing CEOs and childhood sweethearts to “Big Girl” revenge plots. She was truly well-read.
However, she had recently come across a book that made her grit her teeth in frustration. It was supposed to be a satisfying “slap-face” revenge story, yet more than half the book was filled with agonizing misery.
The female supporting character, in particular, was so malicious that Ai Yu wanted to jump into the book and tear her apart herself.
In a fit of rage, Ai Yu left a comment: “A villainess like this deserves to be marked by the female lead for seven days and seven nights straight!”
This comment was quite shocking. For one, the book’s genre was listed as straight romance, so her suggestion technically “broke” the official pairing. For another, in this ABO-setting novel, both the female lead and the villainess were Alphas.
Ai Yu’s comment caught the eye of passersby and fans alike, quickly garnering a long thread of replies and shooting to the top of the comment section.
That day, while Ai Yu was heading home during rush hour, she habitually checked her phone and found a new reply highlighted in red. It was from the author.
The author of this book was notoriously elusive and never replied to comments. Today, they had actually replied to her? Did she hit the jackpot?
Just as Ai Yu was about to read it carefully, a sudden crash echoed in her ears. Shards of glass flew onto the steering wheel. A massive weight crushed down on her, her vision went black, and she lost consciousness…
“Give it back! Give it back to me!”
A young girl’s urgent voice pulled her out of the throes of pain.
Ai Yu reached out with a numb hand to rub her temples as her vision slowly cleared. She instinctively looked for the source of the voice, only to see a thin, frail girl kneeling halfway on the ground in front of her.
The girl looked up at her, her thin lips pressed tight. Her small face was deathly pale, and her long eyelashes trembled. Her eyes seemed naturally downturned, making her look exceptionally pitiable. A small black beauty mark at the corner of her eye felt strangely familiar, as if Ai Yu had seen it somewhere before.
As Ai Yu looked further down, she immediately covered one eye.
The girl’s clothes looked as though someone had torn them. Her already oversized, ill-fitting shirt had slipped down, faintly revealing a slender neck and a patch of fair, tender shoulder.
Is this something I should be looking at?!
Ai Yu was bewildered. One second she was the victim of a car crash, blood everywhere; the next, she was on the set of an adult film? She woke up to a young girl, disheveled and looking at her piteously.
Could this be compensation for being “single for 26 years” before dying in an accident?
The girl swayed and reached out toward Ai Yu. Thinking the girl was trying to strip her, Ai Yu was scared out of her wits. Muttering “sinful, sinful” under her breath, she scrambled backward.
To her surprise, the girl was only reaching for something in Ai Yu’s hand.
Only then did Ai Yu realize she was holding something fuzzy. Looking closer, it was a long-eared rabbit plushie—small, grey, and very worn out, with several patches sewn onto its tiny clothes.
As Ai Yu moved the rabbit, the girl’s eyes followed it, staring fixedly with a stubborn refusal to let go.
What is this?
So, she wasn’t a lead in an adult film, but a disgusting bully stealing a girl’s belongings?
Just as Ai Yu was lost in confusion, the girl spoke again.
“Ai Xiaoyu, give it back to me!”
Ai Xiaoyu… Ai Xiaoyu…
Ai Yu’s heart skipped a beat, and her face went pale.
She was all too familiar with that name. Not only was it similar to her own, but it was also the name of the character in the novel she was reading during the accident!
She… she… she had actually transmigrated into the book!
[Ding! Role ‘Ai Xiaoyu’ is online. Connection successful. System loading… beep, beep, beep…]
As the girl finished speaking, the world around them froze. A voice popped up in Ai Yu’s mind. After about a dozen beeps, a cold, mechanical voice sounded: [I am System No. 079. Connection successful. I will be your navigation service.]
As a loyal reader of “transmigration” novels for over a decade, Ai Yu was well-acquainted with this process. She instinctively reached to push up her glasses, only to find her thick black frames were gone.
She rubbed her forehead instead and asked the system, “So, I’ve transmigrated, right? Into the novel The Devil’s Flower?”
The Devil’s Flower was the very book that had cost her her life.
The system replied emotionlessly: [Yes.]
Ai Yu took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. “My role?”
System: [Ai Xiaoyu.]
Even though she had heard the name already, having the system confirm it was still hard to swallow.
Ai Xiaoyu! The biggest antagonist of the book! The malicious female supporting character! The very person Ai Yu had commented should be “marked for seven days and seven nights”!
Is it too late to delete my comment?
The system answered her thoughts gloomily: [Fluctuations in Ai Xiaoyu’s resentment levels detected. Please note, Host: now that you have entered the role, you must be mindful of your words and deeds at all times. You cannot OOC.]
“OOC?”
Being well-read, Ai Yu naturally knew the term, but she never expected to have it applied to herself.
The system kindly explained: [OOC stands for ‘Out Of Character.’ Your behavior must align with the persona of ‘Ai Xiaoyu.’ The initial OOC value is 0. If you break character, the value will increase. The maximum value is 100.]
Ai Xiaoyu cooperated and asked, “What happens if it hits 100?”
System: [You will be sent back to your original world.]
Since Ai Yu had died in a car crash in her original world, a value of 100 meant certain death.
Ai Xiaoyu took a sharp breath. “Does that mean I can never go back?”
“Not necessarily,” the system explained responsibly. “There is another value: ‘Entropy.’ it encompasses plot order, reader satisfaction, protagonist’s ‘face-slapping’ satisfaction, and so on. In short, if you ‘write’ this book well, the Entropy value will increase. The starting value is 10. Once it reaches 10,000, you will be granted one wish.”
Ai Yu asked, “Any wish?”
System: [Yes.]
That meant if her Entropy reached 10,000, she could return to her world and avoid death. But 10,000… that would take forever! And according to the original plot, as the villainess, her only end was death. She might not even survive long enough to grind for Entropy!
Ai Yu rubbed her forehead again. After the explanation, the system went silent.
The world around her became clear again. Ai Yu—no, she should be called Ai Xiaoyu now—looked at the young girl with a complicated expression, her fingers gripping the grey rabbit.
This elegant and refined face; these bright, clear, and unyielding eyes; this “lotus rising from the mud” quality…
This… this… this is the standard equipment of a female lead!
Ai Xiaoyu finally understood why so many readers felt sorry for the female lead even after she “blackened.” It was all because of that face!
The girl had been bullied to this extent, yet she refused to shed a single tear.
Dazzled by the female lead’s “halo” and comparing it to her own villainous behavior in the original text, Ai Xiaoyu immediately felt inferior. Her legs began to feel weak, and she felt a trembling urge to kneel before the female lead and beg for forgiveness.
The system ruthlessly interrupted her: [OOC Warning! OOC Warning! Ai Xiaoyu would not kneel to Jing Nianxun.]
Ai Xiaoyu replied, “I know, I was just thinking about it.”
She reached out, thinking she should at least help the female lead up. Any reader would feel their heart ache seeing this girl’s strong yet enduring appearance.
The system spoke again: [Ai Xiaoyu would not help Jing Nianxun up either.]
“…”
System, would you please shut up! If you knew you were going to die at this person’s hands in the future, you’d be scared too!
Ai Xiaoyu shook her legs, adjusted her stance, and said coldly, “Hurry up and get up. Don’t get the floor dirty.”
That should fit the persona, right?
Jing Nianxun bit her deathly pale lip. The look she gave Ai Xiaoyu made the latter break into a cold sweat. After a long hesitation, the girl finally stood up.
However, her gaze remained fixed, staring intensely at the grey rabbit.
Ai Xiaoyu stared at the rabbit for a long time before finally remembering what it was.
The female lead’s parents had died early. After her hurried move to this household, this ugly grey rabbit was the only thing she had left of her mother. The female lead hugged it to sleep every night and whispered to it in the dead of night; the rabbit was her only true friend.
In the original plot, however, the villainess was completely brainless. On a sudden whim, she decided the rabbit was an eyesore and insisted on throwing it away.
How could the female lead ever allow that? Throwing away her mother’s keepsake was practically the same as taking her life!
Unfortunately, the female lead was defenseless. She could only watch helplessly as the villainess tossed the rabbit out. This became a major turning point in the lead’s hatred for Ai Xiaoyu; she had originally held onto a sliver of hope, but after that, her heart turned to ash.
It had to be said—the villainess’s talent for seeking her own death was top-tier.
Ai Xiaoyu, of course, had no intention of seeking death.
But she knew that if she simply handed the rabbit back to the female lead, the system would likely bombard her mind with OOC warnings and her OOC value would skyrocket.
Ai Xiaoyu thought for a moment, then kept her face stiff and said coldly, “Look at how old and ragged this thing is. You hug it every day—don’t you think it’s embarrassing? I’m taking it to be mended before giving it back. Don’t let others make a laughingstock out of our family.”
The system did not issue a warning. Ai Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief; she seemed to be getting a feel for the “OOC” rules.
A flicker of surprise and distrust crossed Jing Nianxun’s face. Her fingers tightened around the hem of her shirt, then slowly released. In the end, she had no choice but to give her silent, helpless consent.
Ai Xiaoyu carried the rabbit out of the room. Jing Nianxun’s eyes followed her until she slammed the door shut, finally granting herself a moment of peace.
As soon as the door closed, the system’s voice exploded in her head: [Congratulations, Host! You have obtained a quest item: An Ugly Grey Rabbit Plushie. Entropy +10, Charisma +5. Current Entropy: 20. Please keep up the good work!]
Ai Xiaoyu ignored the system. She slowly slid down against the door until she was crouching, and then she buried her head in her hands.
