Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 8
Bai Xia really wanted to punch someone so hard that even their parents wouldn’t recognize them. But Chu Nanqiao wasn’t an alpha. If she actually dared to lay a hand on her, she’d instantly make headlines at school. Besides, to be honest, Chu Nanqiao was genuinely cute. If Bai Xia could bring herself to hit such an adorable face, she’d be nothing short of a beast.
But if she just said a few harsh words, Chu Nanqiao would probably cry. One of Bai Xia’s greatest fears was hearing an omega cry in front of her whether in her past life or this one especially when that omega was Chu Nanqiao.
She vaguely remembered Chu Nanqiao crying in front of her in her past life, though she couldn’t recall the exact reason. All she remembered was Chu Nanqiao’s tears falling endlessly, impossible to soothe no matter how she tried.
And once Chu Nanqiao started crying, Bai Xia was completely helpless.
Ever since then, Bai Xia couldn’t stand seeing anyone cry in front of her, especially omegas. She couldn’t hit them, couldn’t scold them she could only bottle it up inside. She genuinely worried that one day, she might accidentally suffocate herself from all that pent-up frustration. What a tragic way to go.
As a result, Bai Xia had developed a certain tolerance toward omegas. As long as they didn’t cross her final line, she could endure it.
What else could she do? She was a gentleman, after all. Sometimes, you just had to take a step back for the sake of peace.
Bai Xia tactfully reminded her, “Junior, that kind of joke isn’t funny at all.”
Chu Nanqiao had always been sensitive to emotions. Right now, she could clearly sense Bai Xia’s displeasure at her earlier behavior. She lowered her head awkwardly. “S-sorry, I didn’t mean it. I thought you’d take it as a joke.”
After a pause, she added, “ I’m not good at talking to strangers. S-so, I really didn’t mean it. S-sorry.”
Then, as if that wasn’t enough, Chu Nanqiao even reached out to tug lightly at the sleeve of Bai Xia’s sun-protective jacket.
Bai Xia had been a little annoyed, but with Chu Nanqiao acting so coquettish, her anger just evaporated. “Ignorance is no crime. I’ll let it go this time, but remember no one likes being told to their face that they have a problem with their brain. Of course, if you’re close, playful banter is fine. But aside from that one time at the bar, we’re essentially strangers. So, as strangers, we should maintain boundaries. Got it?”
Chu Nanqiao nodded obediently, pretending to understand, but her big, sparkling eyes flickered before she looked up and asked, “B-but my mom said if one person knows another’s phone number, then they’re not strangers.”
Bai Xia: “……” That’s what your mom said, not mine!
If anything, Chu Nanqiao’s words only made Bai Xia even angrier. But to prevent herself from possibly losing control and hitting someone, she simply turned her head away and stayed silent.
“A-are you mad again?” Chu Nanqiao kept staring up at her. “I-is it because of what I just said?”
Wasn’t that obvious?!
“What do you think?”
“B-but I already apologized to you.”
That counted as an apology?
More like an attempt to piss her off to death!
“That’s not an apology, there’s not a shred of remorse in it.” Bai Xia had never been this worked up before; inside, she was already poking a voodoo doll of Chu Nanqiao in her mind. “If you really wanted to apologize, you shouldn’t have said that in the first place.”
Chu Nanqiao asked, “Wh-which part?”
“…” Bai Xia was both furious and exasperated. “See? The fact that you don’t even know proves you don’t think there’s anything wrong with what you said.”
But the moment she finished speaking, Chu Nanqiao grabbed her and tried to pull her to a stop.
Unfortunately, an omega’s strength was too weak. Chu Nanqiao couldn’t hold Bai Xia back and ended up being dragged along instead.
The two of them went back and forth like this for a while, until Bai Xia finally stopped out of sheer helplessness.
“Let go.”
Chu Nanqiao pouted, puffing her cheeks angrily. “I-I won’t!”
Bai Xia rubbed her temples. “Miss Chu, what exactly do you want? With so many people watching, is it proper for an omega to be tugging at me like this?”
“Th-that’s because you wouldn’t stop!” Chu Nanqiao knew exactly how to use her natural advantages to counterattack. She didn’t believe Bai Xia could really resist her acting cute. “I clearly told you to stop! If-If anyone misunderstands our relationship, it’s all your fault!”
Bai Xia nearly coughed up blood in frustration. Shaking off Chu Nanqiao’s hand, she planted a hand on her hip and stared straight into Chu Nanqiao’s eyes. “Say that again. Whose fault is it?”
Under that intense gaze, Chu Nanqiao’s entire face flushed red, and her head drooped involuntarily. Her voice was as faint as a mosquito’s. “Y-you’re so unreasonable.”
Her voice was incredibly soft. Though the surroundings weren’t deafeningly noisy, it was still quite loud. Yet, even in that environment, Bai Xia could hear her words crystal clear which only made her angrier.
“You think I’m unreasonable?” Bai Xia was internally screaming. “Miss Chu, who’s the unreasonable one here? Just now, you told a senior you barely know that she has a problem with her brain right to her face! Tell me, who’s being unreasonable?”
Chu Nanqiao knew she was in the wrong and didn’t argue. She kept her head down, meekly accepting the scolding. Grabbing Bai Xia earlier hadn’t been out of mischief she just wanted Bai Xia to stop and listen to her. Unlike most people, speaking didn’t come easily to her; it was a struggle. While others could rattle off ten sentences, she might not even finish one. Bai Xia spoke quickly, and she couldn’t keep up. But she genuinely wanted Bai Xia to hear her out, so she had resorted to physical means to make that happen.
“I-I’m sorry.”
“That’s exactly how you apologized last time.”
“I-I mean it this time!”
“I don’t believe you.”
Chu Nanqiao was always half a beat slower than everyone else, but even a rabbit will kick when pushed too far. She lifted her head, eyes blazing. “I’m apologizing sincerely! H-how can you accuse me like this? E-even if you saved me once, you can’t treat me this way!”
Bai Xia saw that she was on the verge of tears and had initially intended to scold her a bit more. But seeing her like this, she swallowed the words on the tip of her tongue. She was practically afraid of Chu Nanqiao at this point. “Alright, alright, alright, I believe you, okay? Let’s just go to the infirmary first. Look at all the people coming and going around here, if someone reports you, not even the mightiest immortal could save you then.”
Chu Nanqiao knew Bai Xia still didn’t fully believe her, but as Bai Xia had pointed out, if their classmates saw her still bouncing around energetically and reported it to their advisor, even calling in reinforcements wouldn’t help. So, she obediently urged Bai Xia to hurry and take her away.
Along the way, the two passed by the school’s milk tea shop. From a distance, they could already smell the delightful aroma of milk tea, and it was clear the shop was doing well, there was already a line of people waiting to order.
The moment Chu Nanqiao saw it, her feet seemed to root to the spot. She stood there staring blankly, practically drooling.
Bai Xia stopped as well. She remembered from her past life how much Chu Nanqiao had loved the milk tea from this shop, she would drink it several times a week. But Bai Xia had always thought milk tea tasted pretty much the same everywhere. At first, it had seemed novel, but after a while, the flavor really was just ordinary. She had never understood why Chu Nanqiao was so obsessed with it. Logically speaking, the Chu family was wealthy enough, it wasn’t as if she’d never had a simple cup of milk tea before.
It wasn’t until much, much later that Bai Xia finally realized, what Chu Nanqiao loved wasn’t the milk tea itself, but what it represented: so-called “freedom.”
