Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 6
Bai Xia had no classes all morning. According to the counselor’s arrangement, she had to stay on the field with the freshmen, she could only leave when their military training ended.
The September sun was scorching. By eight o’clock, it was already blisteringly hot. Bai Xia stood under the shade of a tree, holding an umbrella, but her gaze unconsciously drifted toward Chu Nanqiao’s squad.
The training assigned to omegas wasn’t particularly intense, just a few laps around the field and a few dozen frog jumps. After completing these, they could take a fifteen-minute break, which was fairly reasonable. But whether it was due to her weak constitution or something else, Chu Nanqiao was already struggling after just two laps, sitting on the ground and panting heavily.
The instructor was concerned. Omegas, as a special demographic, were always a priority for national care. If anything happened, not only would the instructor face severe consequences, but the school would also be held accountable. In short, even if it was an act, they couldn’t afford to take it lightly.
The instructor quickly blew the whistle to halt the squad and rushed over to check on her. Chu Nanqiao crouched on the ground, gasping for air, her delicate face pale but slightly flushed from the sun, giving her a fragile, sickly appearance. The watching alphas felt their hearts ache and hurried over as well.
“Junior, are you okay? Do you need someone to take you to the infirmary?”
“C-Chest, hurts a little.”
Chu Nanqiao was so out of breath that her usual stutter became even more pronounced, each word laboriously forced out, making it all the more frustrating to listen to.
The instructor, being a no-nonsense type, cut straight to the point. “So, do you want to keep training, or should they take you to the infirmary? Hurry up and decide, don’t drag this out.”
Chu Nanqiao had been looking for an excuse to slip away but hadn’t found the right opportunity. Now that it had presented itself, she’d be a fool not to take it.
Of course, she couldn’t make it too obvious. If necessary, she’d have to exaggerate her condition to convincingly fool everyone.
After a quick internal deliberation, Chu Nanqiao made up her mind. Clutching her chest, she shook her head.
The instructor understood and didn’t push her further. “Alright, then. These guys will take you to the infirmary. Come back in the afternoon if your condition doesn’t allow it, just let us know in advance.”
Chu Nanqiao shook her head even more vigorously.
The instructor was baffled. “What else is the problem? Spit it out! The others still have to train, we can’t hold everyone up just because you’re lagging behind!”
Perhaps the instructor’s tone was too harsh. As the young lady of a prestigious family, Chu Nanqiao had never been spoken to like this before. Soon, her eyes reddened.
But she didn’t dare cry. Not only would the instructor likely scold her even more harshly, but bursting into tears in front of so many people would be downright humiliating.
So, Chu Nanqiao held back her tears and sniffled, “I don’t know them. I want someone else to take me!”
“What difference does it make who takes you?!” The instructor was furious at her pickiness, his voice even harsher than before. But to avoid further delays, he had no choice but to relent. “Fine! Who do you want? Hurry up and call them over!”
Chu Nanqiao was startled, her words tumbling out faster than before. She timidly pointed at Bai Xia, who was holding an umbrella under the shade of a tree, and said, “Th-that’s my senior.”
Before she could finish, the instructor turned and shouted directly in that direction, “The student with the umbrella, come here.”
Under the tree, a whole group of people were holding umbrellas, and everyone thought they were being called. But with so many people, no one was sure, so they all froze in place, ears perked up, waiting.
Bai Xia had been lost in thought and was jolted by the call, her brows furrowing tightly.
Was he calling her?
Surely not.
At this point, Chu Nanqiao wasn’t even that familiar with her. To single her out in public like this, what happened to the self-awareness of being an omega?
She remembered the Chu Nanqiao from her past life, if an alpha so much as glanced at her, she’d want to gouge their eyes out. Surely, after being reborn, Chu Nanqiao’s personality hadn’t done a complete 180-degree turn!
A fellow alpha student, also a temporary counselor, nudged her. “The instructor seems to be calling you.”
Bai Xia pointed at herself with her finger. “Me?”
“Yes, you!”
“How could it be me?”
Wait wasn’t that the instructor’s voice?
Bai Xia turned her head to see the instructor already standing up. As if worried she hadn’t heard, he even grabbed the nearby broadcast microphone. “The female student pointing at herself, don’t doubt it, I’m calling you! Get over here now!”
With that amplified shout, everyone’s eyes instantly locked onto Bai Xia. Their expressions were like those of visitors at a zoo staring at a monkey except monkeys could climb trees and stay up there, while she was stuck standing beneath one.
Bai Xia wished she could dig a hole right then and there, crawl in, and have someone bury her. Such a mortifying moment, and it had to land on her head. Was Chu Nanqiao in this life her jinx?!
No, the real culprit behind all this was that scoundrel Xu Mo. If Xu Mo hadn’t bailed at the last minute, Bai Xia wouldn’t have had to step in as the scapegoat. If she hadn’t come here, she wouldn’t have caught Chu Nanqiao’s attention, and this humiliating scene would never have happened!
The more Bai Xia thought about it, the more convinced she became that this was all Xu Mo’s scheme. The evidence? Last week, she had snapped an unflattering photo of Xu Mo and gleefully spread it around the dorm, resulting in Xu Mo being the butt of jokes for an entire week so much so that she could barely show her face.
Well, well. The sins you commit always come back to haunt you.
Reluctantly, Bai Xia walked over, umbrella in hand. Chu Nanqiao lifted her head to meet her gaze, looking every bit like a wounded little rabbit pitiful, with red-rimmed eyes that tugged at the heartstrings.
“Instructor, what’s wrong with her?”
The instructor had far less patience with alphas. “Take her to the infirmary,” he said bluntly.
To Bai Xia, Chu Nanqiao didn’t seem unwell at all. If anything, she looked like she was faking it to skip training, just as Bai Xia herself had once done. “Huh? Me? There are so many other students around her surely it doesn’t have to be me.”
Her words were like fuel to the fire. The alphas nearby who had been eager to help now glared at her with murderous intensity, as if they wanted to tear her apart limb by limb. But with the instructor present and so many witnesses, they could only seethe silently, forced to watch as Chu Nanqiao chose Bai Xia.
At the same time, it also meant they weren’t Chu Nanqiao’s type, no matter how much they tried to curry favor later, she wouldn’t spare them a single glance.
At this moment, they were utterly and completely the losers.
