Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 5
Freshmen had to undergo a month-long military training at the start of the semester, which originally had nothing to do with Bai Xia, a junior. Watching the training from the sidelines with half a watermelon and a few popsicles in hand was pure bliss, nothing could be more enjoyable.
But perhaps because she had been reborn, many things had changed. In her previous life, she hadn’t escorted Chu Nanqiao home after rescuing her, nor had she gotten Chu Nanqiao’s home phone number in advance. As a result, this military training wasn’t following the same script as before.
The counselor had urgent matters to attend to and couldn’t oversee the freshmen’s daily affairs, so this important task fell to Bai Xia. And as expected, the unexpected happened, she became the temporary counselor for Class 1 of the Dance Department’s freshmen.
“Why me?”
Bai Xia slumped over Xu Mo’s shoulder, protesting loudly, looking utterly miserable.
Xu Mo pushed her away with one hand and gestured with the other. “Listen, sis, just look at yourself and then at the rest of us. You’re the face of D University your photo’s even on the admissions posters! If the freshmen don’t get to see you in person, wouldn’t that make the school guilty of false advertising? It’s just a month as a temporary counselor. Sure, you’ll have to wake up a bit earlier, but grit your teeth and power through it. Besides, you’ll even get a stipend easy money to buy canned food and cat treats for your chubby cat. Isn’t that great? Do you know how many people wanted this position but didn’t get it? You should be grateful!”
“Grateful my foot.” The mere mention of it made Bai Xia furious. “Anyone who wants it can have it. I can barely handle 8 a.m. classes, and now you want me to wake up even earlier? That’s practically a death sentence! No way, not doing it.”
Xu Mo quickly grabbed her hand, holding on tightly as if afraid she’d really bail. “Come on, Xia, think of the bright side. It’s freshmen military training! You’ll be surrounded by a bunch of pretty little Omegas, how amazing is that?”
At this, Bai Xia couldn’t help but recall how Chu Nanqiao had stabbed her in her past life. That memory had practically become her nightmare in this life. Surrounded by a bunch of little Omegas? What if one of them held a grudge against her someday? The thought alone sent shivers down her spine.
“You seem pretty excited about it,” Bai Xia said, narrowing her eyes. “How about, I hand this glorious task over to you?”
Xu Mo suddenly looked guilty, silently releasing Bai Xia’s hand before turning and sprinting away.
Bai Xia grew more suspicious. She picked up her phone and called the counselor.
Soon, the call connected.
A sweet, overly affectionate voice came through. “What’s up, Xiaxia? Is there anything about the job you’re still unclear about? I already explained everything to Xu Mo. If it’s about the handover, she should’ve filled you in, right? What part don’t you understand?”
Handover.
Bai Xia’s lips twitched. So that’s why Xu Mo had been acting unusually nice to her lately. There’s always a catch when things seem too good to be true. Perfect!
She forced a smile and replied, “It’s fine, Rong-jie. Everything’s clear. I’ll get to work now.”
“Oh, starting so soon? Xu Mo really didn’t misrepresent you.”
“No, Rong-jie. I’m starting with something else first, I’m going to beat someone up!”
After hanging up the phone, Bai Xia sighed helplessly. By the time she left the dormitory, Xu Mo had already disappeared without a trace, leaving her no choice but to grab the roster and head toward the sports field.
There were no early classes today she should have been enjoying the luxury of sleeping in. But thanks to Xu Mo, that troublemaker, not only did she have to deal with a pile of responsibilities that weren’t even hers, but she also had to wake up half an hour earlier every day. It was literally the most miserable thing in the world!
The most crucial point was that Chu Nanqiao was also a freshman at D University this year, and worse, she was in the dance department. Bai Xia didn’t know whether she was in Class 1 or Class 2. If luck wasn’t on her side, she’d have to interact with Chu Nanqiao for the entire month!
In her past life, that incident had happened just before graduation. But now, things were clearly veering off the original timeline. She wasn’t sure if it would happen earlier, if it did, that would mean she’d also be stabbed to death by Chu Nanqiao sooner. The thought was terrifying!
The more Bai Xia thought about it, the angrier she got. She didn’t even notice snapping the pen in her hand until passersby, seeing the ink stains, stopped to kindly point it out. Only then did Bai Xia snap out of her daze and hurriedly thanked them.
After another five minutes of walking, she arrived at the sports field.
By now, the instructors in charge of each class’s military training were blowing their whistles, calling for assembly. The freshmen, being obedient, gradually found their assigned class numbers in response to the whistles. Since omegas, alphas, and betas had different physical capabilities omegas couldn’t endure high-intensity training, and forcing them could easily lead to health issues, the school had the instructors separate the omegas into their own line once the class rosters were finalized.
This was also the favorite part of the year for older alphas. The number of omegas was small, and most were already claimed by their first year. If you wanted to find a partner, you had to act fast.
As a result, many second- and third-year alphas crowded onto the sports field, some even going so far as to volunteer under the guise of helping freshmen though their real goal was to scout for omegas who matched their preferences.
Unsurprisingly, Chu Nanqiao stood out as the most dazzling omega among the freshmen.
Beautiful, adorable, with fair skin that practically glowed under the sunlight every movement made her seem like a little princess straight out of a fairy tale.
Bai Xia remembered Chu Nanqiao mentioning she was mixed-race, which supposedly made her eyes and hair different from other omegas. But after two lifetimes, Bai Xia still couldn’t spot any real distinction.
Similarly, she couldn’t understand why the alphas at school were so worked up.
Aren’t all people basically the same?
Omegas too aside from their pheromones, what’s the real difference?
And since all omegas were good-looking frankly, there were no ugly omegas, she really couldn’t grasp why the alphas at school were so fixated on Chu Nanqiao in particular.
Bai Xia couldn’t figure it out, so she simply stopped trying. She walked over to greet the instructor, explaining that she was temporarily filling in for the counselor. The instructor merely acknowledged with a single response and said nothing more. Then, probably finding her presence too distracting since the freshmen were more focused on looking at her than their military training, he promptly told her to move to another spot.
Bai Xia was more than happy to oblige. The moment the instructor finished speaking, she swiftly made her exit.
