Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 49
Though she said this, if her rebirth hadn’t occurred at that moment in the bar, the questions that had plagued her for a lifetime might never have been answered.
Bai Xia suddenly felt incredibly fortunate. She had returned to the very beginning, able to meet Chu Nanqiao all over again, to understand him anew, and perhaps even make up for the regrets of her past life.
And it wasn’t just that, she also had another chance to repay Ms. Tang for her years of care and to return to the side of these “disastrous” friends, embarking on a completely different future.
All in all, it was a good thing.
The only downside was that, after living a second life, she had truly come to appreciate just how outrageous Xu Mo’s big mouth could be so much so that she had never before felt such a strong urge to throttle someone.
“Listen, you two, Xia Xia here, that day she went with me to the bar.”
Before Xu Mo could finish, a commotion erupted outside the dormitory door. A group of alphas seemed to be pressed against the windows, screaming and shouting about something, their excitement palpable.
Bai Xia and her three roommates were utterly bewildered.
But if there was one thing that could rile up alphas like this, it was undoubtedly the sight of a captivating omega like a nun suddenly appearing in a monastery. Chaos was inevitable.
“Should we go out and take a look too?” Lin Fei asked, clearly eager for some drama.
Li Li was also a little curious. “Isn’t there a rule that omegas aren’t allowed in alpha dorms? Which young master or lady decided to grace us with their presence?”
“What if it’s not a young master or lady?” Xu Mo countered. “Maybe they braved all odds to come here for the sake of their beloved alpha!”
The other three scoffed in unison, rolling their eyes so hard they nearly disappeared into their skulls.
But the noise outside grew louder, and the four of them were genuinely curious about what was happening. Still, worried that stepping out might land them in unnecessary trouble, they settled for pressing their ears against the door instead.
“Can you hear anything?” Li Li asked.
“It’s too noisy, can’t make it out,” Xu Mo replied. Eavesdropping like this wasn’t satisfying enough; if you wanted the juiciest gossip, you had to be on the front lines.
Just as she was about to open the door, Bai Xia grabbed her and yanked her back. “Stay put! You’re the one most likely to cause trouble. If it weren’t for you last time, the three of us wouldn’t have gotten caught by the dorm supervisor!”
Li Li followed up by knocking Xu Mo on the head. “Exactly! If you keep causing trouble, we’re throwing you out of the dorm tonight! No, better yet, we’ll break your legs!”
Xu Mo, knowing she was in the wrong, obediently lowered her hand. “Fine, fine, I get it. No need to be so harsh. You women are always bullying poor little me, how terrifying!”
Bai Xia: “…”
Lin Fei: “…”
Li Li: “…”
The three of them stared at her in dead silence, their expressions practically spelling out, “Who is this person?” and “How did she end up in our dorm?”
Li Li was about to retort when the commotion outside abruptly stopped. A moment later, an unfriendly female voice cut through the silence.
The tone sounded particularly hostile and unfriendly, deliberately lowered likely because the other party was an omega. If they went too far, they’d undoubtedly become the talk of the school that very day.
Yet, despite this, the alpha’s attitude remained unyielding. Their words made it clear there would be no compromise, and the underlying message was obvious: they wanted the omega to scram.
“Junior, who do you think you are? ‘To forgive is divine.’ Don’t think just because you’re an omega, the whole world revolves around you.”
“You want me to apologize to her? Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Oh wait, no. You’re defending her like this, but it’s not like she even likes you. I’ve heard she’s got a whole bunch of omegas outside, even knocked one up. Bet you didn’t know that, huh? Pathetic.”
For some reason, when the word “junior” was mentioned, Bai Xia’s first thought was that this omega was Chu Nanqiao.
But upon closer consideration, that seemed unlikely.
Why would Chu Nanqiao go out of her way to confront someone over some trivial matter involving her? Besides, the baseless rumors were clearly just that rumors. There was no need to even acknowledge them. Chu Nanqiao wouldn’t stoop to arguing over something so petty.
It was completely unnecessary.
Bai Xia was certain Chu Nanqiao wasn’t that foolish, nor did it align with the demeanor of the Chu family’s young miss. So she stayed pressed against the door, listening.
Outside, silence fell for a moment before other alphas began jeering. Then came the omega’s voice soft yet firm, laced with righteous anger.
And the moment that voice rang out, Bai Xia froze.
“That’s not true! You’re just spreading lies! I want you to apologize to her!”
“Junior, you’re really something. You accuse me of spreading rumors? Then show me the proof. If you’re going to charge in here without evidence, can’t I say you’re the one slandering me? And what’s she to you, huh? Her omega? Or some unspeakable relationship?”
“What I am to her is none, of your business! Just apologize to her!”
“And what if I don’t? What are you gonna do about it?”
The voices abruptly stopped.
Xu Mo nudged Bai Xia. “Xiaxia, doesn’t that voice sound familiar? It kinda sounds like Junior Chu Nanqiao.”
Lin Fei had also met Chu Nanqiao before, though she hadn’t paid much attention to her voice. But now that Xu Mo mentioned it, she agreed. “It does sound like her. Xiaxia, should we open the door and take a look? If it’s not her, we can just come back!”
There was no need to confirm. Chu Nanqiao’s voice was practically etched into Bai Xia’s DNA. One word even a single hum and Bai Xia would know it was her.
But why would Chu Nanqiao come up here specifically?
Before Bai Xia could dwell on it, Chu Nanqiao roared at the alpha.
“Proof? I heard it with my own ears! You won’t even admit, what you said! Someone like you doesn’t deserve to be an alpha!”
But this remark struck a nerve with the alpha, who snarled threateningly, “Listen here, junior, don’t think being an omega means I won’t dare to do anything to you. You omegas are all in need of discipline. If we alphas just exert a little pheromone pressure, you’d be so weak in the knees you couldn’t even stand. Let me make one thing clear, you have no connection to her whatsoever. So what if I spread rumors about her? If you’ve got a problem with it, bring me proof. Otherwise, don’t blame me for teaching you a lesson!”
At those words, Bai Xia frowned and abruptly pushed open the dormitory door with a loud bang, stepping outside.
Xu Mo, Lin Fei, and □□ quickly stood up as well. It was the first time the three of them had ever seen Bai Xia display something like anger on her face. Worried things might escalate, they followed close behind.
The commotion was instantly silenced by the forceful slam of the door, and everyone turned to look in that direction.
Chu Nanqiao was no exception.
So when she saw Bai Xia emerge from the dorm, disbelief flickered across her face, followed by a dazed pause. A warmth she couldn’t explain rose in her chest.
Meanwhile, the alpha who had been spreading rumors suddenly looked nervous. Being caught red-handed by the person involved was anything but dignified. She hadn’t known Chu Nanqiao lived next door. If this escalated to the school authorities, her situation would become extremely embarrassing.
At best, she’d get a scolding from the advisor and have to write a self-criticism. At worst, the whole school would find out, and she’d never be able to hold her head up among her classmates again, she might even get a major demerit on her record, affecting her future.
She tried to turn and slip back into her room, but Bai Xia was too quick. In one swift motion, she grabbed the door handle and held it firmly, leaving the alpha no chance to escape.
“Running away now? Weren’t you just full of bravado?” Bai Xia shielded Chu Nanqiao behind her. “If I hadn’t come out, what exactly were you planning to do to her? Use pheromone suppression? Is that all you’ve got as an alpha picking on an omega who can’t even fight back? Well, I’m here now. If you’ve got something to say, say it to me. You want a pheromone showdown? Fine. Let’s go.”
Xu Mo pulled Chu Nanqiao aside, worried that if the two alphas suddenly released their pheromones, Chu Nanqiao, as an omega, would suffer. “Stay away from them. It’s not safe over there.”
Chu Nanqiao hesitated. “B-but Xiaxia, she—”
Xu Mo patted her shoulder reassuringly. “Relax. There aren’t many alphas whose pheromones can compete with our Xia. This ugly troublemaker is all bark and no bite. If it really comes down to a pheromone battle, she’ll probably end up on her knees calling Xia ‘big sis.’”
Chu Nanqiao was still doubtful. “Really?”
“Why would I lie?” Xu Mo explained, “During Xia’s physical exam, the doctor tested her pheromone levels. If it hadn’t been in a sealed room, things could’ve gotten dangerous. So, junior, you don’t need to worry about her just take care of yourself.”
Only then did Chu Nanqiao relax, her heart swelling with happiness she couldn’t contain.
She had never imagined Bai Xia lived on the same floor, right next door. And she certainly hadn’t expected Bai Xia to step forward and confront the bully head-on just to defend her.
Did that mean in Bai Xia’s heart, she was actually important?
The thought made Chu Nanqiao even happier, even sparking the urge to be with Bai Xia right now. Unfortunately, this fool was too slow she probably only just realized what was happening.
By now, the crowd in the hallway had grown, and the female alpha’s confidence was waning. When it came to contests of pheromones, winning was one thing, but losing? That would be downright humiliating.
Especially among alphas, it was the kind of thing you’d get mocked for for life.
But backing down now? She couldn’t stomach that.
“What, scared?” Bai Xia didn’t go looking for trouble, but she wasn’t one to back down either. When dealing with bullies who preyed on the weak, she never held back. “You’re so good at spreading rumors maybe I should return the favor. Let the whole grade see what kind of person you really are.”
The female alpha gritted her teeth. She knew she was in the wrong, and with the crowd growing, she had no advantage. After weighing her options, she could only lift her head and mutter to Bai Xia, “Sorry. It was my fault.”
