Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 41
The car stopped right at the entrance.
After getting out, Bai Xia didn’t go inside. She simply stood by the mailbox next to the gate.
In her past life, when Chu Nanqiao first brought her to the Chu family home, she had also been told to wait in this exact spot. Honestly, Bai Xia didn’t think it was all that inconspicuous from inside the house, this spot wasn’t even visible.
But strangely, Chu Nanqiao always managed to spot her immediately.
Back then, Bai Xia had asked Chu Nanqiao why that was, but Chu Nanqiao had only smiled and called it a “secret,” refusing to explain no matter how much she pressed.
Truly, an omega’s thoughts were hard to guess.
And this time was no exception.
She hadn’t been standing by the mailbox for long before Chu Nanqiao came running out of the villa.
Bai Xia had excellent eyesight, 20/20 vision so she could clearly see everything happening in the distance. When she saw Chu Nanqiao running toward her, holding up her skirt, for a brief moment, Bai Xia felt like she was witnessing a princess escaping from a castle in a fairy tale. And she herself was the knight about to whisk the princess away.
The metaphor was a bit exaggerated, but Bai Xia thought it fit the scene perfectly.
Except, in the end, this princess had turned a little crazy and stabbed the knight who helped her escape with a dagger.
“Xia Xia!” Chu Nanqiao called her name affectionately.
Bai Xia snapped out of her reverie.
She had actually seen Chu Nanqiao at her most beautiful before during her graduation ceremony. To celebrate Bai Xia’s graduation, Chu Nanqiao had choreographed a solo dance just for her.
Dressed in a blue pearl-embroidered backless gown, with light but elegant makeup, her slightly curled golden hair cascading down to her waist, and her graceful movements, she had looked like a blue butterfly dancing across the stage.
That scene had been truly breathtaking.
So beautiful it made hearts tremble.
So beautiful it drove every alpha in the audience wild.
Then came wave after wave of red roses thrown onto the stage. But Bai Xia couldn’t remember why Chu Nanqiao had rejected all of them back then, nor what Chu Nanqiao had said into the microphone on stage. She had forgotten all of it.
The only thing she remembered was that after her graduation, Chu Nanqiao never performed on the school stage again. She never danced another dance.
Was it because of her?
The thought suddenly crossed Bai Xia’s mind.
But then she felt she was being presumptuous. Why would Chu Nanqiao ever like an alpha like her? It wasn’t as if she lacked options Bai Xia wouldn’t even make the cut as a last resort.
With that, Bai Xia suppressed the absurd thought.
“I’m your senior. You should add a ‘Jie’ after my name,” Bai Xia said in a tone befitting an upperclassman.
But Chu Nanqiao stubbornly refused. “You, you’re not old! Why should I add ‘Jie’? I don’t want to call you that.”
Bai Xia hadn’t considered that. She thought adding “Jie” to a name sounded cool. “How does adding ‘Jie’ make me old? Besides, everyone gets old eventually. You’ll have to call me that sooner or later. Better get used to it now than suffer later. And all the other juniors call me that you’re no exception.”
Chu Nanqiao remained adamant. “They can call you that if they want. That’s their business. I won’t. That’s my business. I just won’t!”
Bai Xia couldn’t win against her. It was just a name she could call her whatever she liked. “Fine, suit yourself. As long as you’re happy.”
Chu Nanqiao had achieved her goal and felt a little smug inside. Then, she twirled in her dress in front of Bai Xia and asked, “D-does it look nice?”
There was no doubt about the answer, of course, it looked beautiful.
But for some reason, Bai Xia didn’t want to say what she truly felt. Maybe it was what people called being a smartass.
“It looks nice just a little nicer than usual.”
The moment Chu Nanqiao heard this, her expression instantly darkened. “W-what do you mean, ‘a little nicer than usual’? D-do you think I look ugly in this?!”
Bai Xia quickly explained, “No, no! It really looks beautiful. I’m not lying!”
“You really are a big idiot.”
Completely oblivious to her feelings.
Big idiot! Big idiot!
Chu Nanqiao viciously cursed Bai Xia in her heart. She really shouldn’t have expected anything nice to come out of Bai Xia’s mouth.
Her voice was too soft for Chu Nanqiao to hear clearly, but seeing her muttering to herself with her head lowered, Chu Nanqiao asked, “Junior, what were you just saying?”
Chu Nanqiao suddenly felt guilty and jerked her head up. “N-nothing! I didn’t say anything just now!”
That guilty look was a dead giveaway as if she hadn’t said anything.
But Bai Xia was a gentleman and usually pretended not to notice in such situations, changing the topic instead. “By the way, Xu Mo told me that the reason you called me here, Junior Chu Nanqiao, was to thank me for stepping in at the bar that time?”
Chu Nanqiao couldn’t think of any other excuse, so she had to go along with it. “Y-yes.”
Bai Xia figured as much.
But wasn’t it a bit late for a thank-you?
Or had Chu Nanqiao only just realized it now?
“Honestly, even if it wasn’t me, I believe any other alpha would’ve done the same.”
“They wouldn’t!”
Chu Nanqiao’s tone was firm.
This took Bai Xia by surprise. In that kind of situation, surely no one would’ve turned a blind eye, right?
Still, hearing Chu Nanqiao say that made her inexplicably happy.
“A-aren’t you supposed to be inside entertaining guests? Isn’t it rude to run out like this?”
Of course, people would say it was, but Chu Nanqiao didn’t care. Those people only dared to gossip behind her back in front of her, they’d grovel like lapdogs. “I-it’s fine. They w-won’t dare talk. A-and besides, I-I’m not a waiter. W-why should I entertain them myself?”
Right. Chu Nanqiao was the young miss of the Chu family someone else would handle such things. And with her parents inside, there was no need for her to lift a finger.
“True,” Bai Xia said. “I have something to attend to at home later. Was there anything else you wanted to say to me?”
Chu Nanqiao glanced at the time she still had twenty-five minutes left with Bai Xia. “Xiaxia, c-can you walk with me for a bit? J-just think of it as a post-dinner stroll!”
In the past, Bai Nanxing would’ve definitely refused such a request. Skipping a proper banquet just to have an alpha accompany her for a walk? It would’ve been outrageous.
But today, Bai Xia suddenly had a thought.
She wanted to walk alone with Chu Nanqiao.
“Alright, then.” Bai Xia glanced back at the villa. “Are you sure it’s okay for you to slip away like this?”
Chu Nanqiao had already informed Chu Muqing and Xu Qing in advance; otherwise, she wouldn’t have been able to just run out like this. “D-don’t worry, I’ve already told Uncle Chen. You can just bring me back later, and it’ll be fine.”
Bai Xia no longer had any reservations. She reached out her hand to Chu Nanqiao and said, “Let’s go, Your Highness.”
Chu Nanqiao paused for a brief moment before smiling and placing her hand in Bai Xia’s, replying with a hint of shyness, “O-okay!”
