Strategy to Tame My Dimwitted Older Sister A - Chapter 34
Half an hour later.
The Chu Family Old Mansion.
“Young Mistress, we’ve arrived.”
Uncle Chen opened the car door, and Chu Nanqiao reluctantly stepped out, holding the hem of her dress. The servants lined up in two rows to welcome her, all respectfully addressing her as “Young Mistress.”
Chu Nanqiao nodded politely in response.
Passing through the garden, she reached the main entrance of the old mansion.
Numerous bodyguards were stationed at the door Chu Nanqiao had seen every member of the Chu family before, but these were clearly new faces. Yet, she hadn’t heard any news about the family hiring new personnel recently. Therefore, these bodyguards couldn’t have been employed by the Chu family.
Chu Nanqiao seemed to have guessed something and hesitated at the entrance, unwilling to step inside.
Uncle Chen asked, “Young Mistress, what’s wrong?”
Clenching her fists, Chu Nanqiao asked, “Is she inside?”
This “she” was none other than Ruan Manxiang, the heir of the Ruan family, an alpha and one of Chu Nanqiao’s many suitors.
But Ruan Manxiang was different from all the other admirers Chu Nanqiao knew.
Ruan Manxiang was a relentless pursuer. While others at least restrained themselves out of respect for her status as the Chu family’s young mistress, Ruan Manxiang did not. She not only teased Chu Nanqiao with words but also took liberties with her physically, even using her alpha pheromones to overwhelm her.
Chu Nanqiao detested Ruan Manxiang no, she was afraid of her.
Omegas were particularly susceptible to alpha pheromones, easily falling into heat, losing control, and becoming someone they didn’t even recognize.
Just the thought of it made Chu Nanqiao tremble uncontrollably.
“Uncle Chen, why didn’t you tell me she would be here?”
Frowning, Uncle Chen replied, “Young Mistress, it’s not that I didn’t tell you, she wasn’t here when I left.”
In other words, Ruan Manxiang had people tailing her, monitoring her every move. No matter what Chu Nanqiao did, Ruan Manxiang knew everything.
A chill ran down Chu Nanqiao’s spine.
Hugging her arms, she shivered. “Uncle Chen, if one day, I mean, if I really had to get married, who would you want me to marry?”
Most children of wealthy families had no say in their fate everything was for the family’s benefit. As long as it brought profit to the family, anything could be sacrificed.
But Uncle Chen had been with the Chu family for decades and understood their standing well. The Chu family’s influence was vast, their network spanning the entire capital. This meant they rarely had to compromise on anything including marriage alliances. If the Chu family refused, no one could force Chu Nanqiao into a marriage.
Gently patting Chu Nanqiao’s head, Uncle Chen answered kindly, “Young Mistress, you don’t need to worry about this. The master and madam have already decided whoever you like, no matter their status, they will accept. If anyone dares to force you into marriage, the master and madam will be the first to oppose it.”
After saying this, he looked toward the interior of the mansion and asked, “Has she ever done anything inappropriate to you?”
Chu Nanqiao fell silent.
Uncle Chen had watched her grow up, treating her almost like his own child. So whenever something troubled her, he could always tell at a glance.
“Young Miss, this is your home, and we are all your family. There’s no need to be afraid of anything. With the master and madam here, even if she’s from the Ruan family, they won’t spare her any face.”
Chu Nanqiao knew she wasn’t holding back out of fear. While she could afford to be willful over trivial matters, as the future heir of the Chu family, she still had to consider the bigger picture for the family’s sake.
She could have laid everything out to her parents, but doing so would mean an irreparable rift between the Chu and Ruan families. Moreover, she was well aware of the Ruan family’s underhanded tactics. Chu Nanqiao wasn’t worried about herself, but she wanted nothing more than for her parents to remain safe and sound.
After much deliberation, Chu Nanqiao decided to keep the matter buried deep in her heart.
“N-no, it’s fine, Uncle Chen.” Chu Nanqiao suppressed all her negative emotions and forced her usual cheerful smile. “If she bullies me, then I’ll tell Uncle Chen, and you can teach her a lesson for me!”
Uncle Chen chuckled and patted her head. “Of course. If anyone dares to bully our Qiaoqiao, I’ll be the first to stand against them.”
Chu Nanqiao lowered her head obediently.
Then, belatedly realizing something was off, she looked up in protest. “U-Uncle Chen, don’t pat my head anymore! I heard that if your head gets patted too much, you’ll turn into a fool!”
Uncle Chen laughed heartily before withdrawing his hand. “Alright, alright, no more patting. Our Qiaoqiao is the smartest.”
The two chatted and laughed as they entered the old mansion together.
The moment they stepped inside, Xu Qing, the lady of the Chu household, immediately rushed over.
“Qiaoqiao, you’re finally back! Mommy missed you so much! How are you, sweetheart? Have you missed Mommy after all these days at school?”
On any other day, Chu Nanqiao would have hugged her back and nuzzled affectionately. But as soon as she entered, her eyes landed on Ruan Manxiang, and her mood instantly plummeted.
Not wanting her mother to notice her distress, Chu Nanqiao still hugged her as usual, then pouted in mock anger. ” I don’t believe you! You say you missed me, but I’ve been at school for so many days, and Mommy only called me twice! Mommy just likes to coax kids! But, I’m not a kid anymore!”
Xu Qing showered her with kisses on her forehead, her cheeks as if she wanted nothing more than to lift Chu Nanqiao up in joy. “Sweetheart, Mommy’s just been busy with household matters. The banquet is tomorrow night, and these past few weeks have been exhausting. Hearing you say that breaks Mommy’s heart. You’ll have to make it up to me!”
Chu Nanqiao had no choice but to relent. “Mommy, you’ve worked hard. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have blamed you. Mommy is the best mommy in the world.”
Xu Qing responded with another round of enthusiastic kisses.
Ruan Manxiang sat on the sofa, her posture rigidly upright, legs crossed, hands resting gracefully on her lap, her gaze fixed intently on Chu Nanqiao.
Only after holding her daughter for a while did Xu Qing finally remember they had a guest. Turning around with an apologetic smile, she said, “I’m sorry, Manxiang. Qiaoqiao hasn’t lived at home since starting university, and I only get to see her twice a week. I got a little carried away please excuse me.”
Ruan Manxiang narrowed her eyes with a faint smile. “No, no, everyone knows Aunt Xu and Uncle Chu dote on Qiaoqiao the most. This reaction is completely normal, how could anyone laugh at it? But hasn’t Qiaoqiao always lived at home? Why did she suddenly start boarding at school?”
Xu Qing explained, “I originally didn’t want her to stay at school, but later I thought Qiaoqiao made a good point. If she always lived at home, she might not have many opportunities to make friends. Kids should socialize more. So, I agreed to let her board.”
“But is Qiaoqiao used to living at school? I’ve heard the dorm conditions aren’t great, and it’s usually very noisy. Qiaoqiao isn’t like them she shouldn’t be affected by those people.”
As soon as she finished speaking, before Xu Qing could respond, Chu Nanqiao cut in first to refute, “I’m used to it! The school dorms are fine! My roommates all take good care of me, and when it’s time to rest, the dorm supervisor maintains order. Thank you for your concern, Miss Ruan, but I’m doing just fine!”
Ruan Manxiang hadn’t expected Chu Nanqiao to talk back to her. In her memory, Chu Nanqiao had never dared to speak to her like this at most, she’d glare at her fiercely.
But this time was clearly different.
This time, Chu Nanqiao showed no trace of timidity. Her gaze was steady, completely unlike the Chu Nanqiao she knew before.
Had something happened at school?
For someone to change so drastically in such a short time, something must have occurred.
And for an omega to change this quickly, Ruan Manxiang could only think of one possibility, this omega had fallen in love.
Ruan Manxiang’s mood instantly darkened.
Her hands unconsciously tightened on her pants, and even her eyes lost their initial warmth. But with Xu Qing present, Ruan Manxiang held back.
“Is that so? As long as it doesn’t affect Qiaoqiao, that’s naturally for the best.”
Ruan Manxiang was a born pretender, like a venomous snake lurking in the grass as long as no one noticed, she could keep up the act forever.
When Chu Nanqiao first met Ruan Manxiang, she hadn’t disliked or feared her. With alphas, she always maintained a safe distance to ensure she wouldn’t be harmed under certain circumstances. But later, she realized that even knowing this, Ruan Manxiang still treated her that way, it was deliberate.
From then on, Chu Nanqiao understood one thing: Ruan Manxiang wasn’t like those simpering alphas who pursued her. Ruan Manxiang had a strong, calculated motive for getting close to her, one that wouldn’t stop at anything. After all, if she could secure a marriage alliance with Chu Nanqiao, the Ruan family’s status in the capital would skyrocket.
But Ruan Manxiang had miscalculated.
Chu Nanqiao knew she was just a physically weak omega her strength might not compare to an alpha’s, but that didn’t mean her mind and spirit were the same. Smart people used their heads to solve problems.
Besides, even a cornered rabbit would bite!
“Th-they wouldn’t affect me! Everyone’s usually too busy studying to bother with that nonsense!”
Chu Nanqiao’s words carried a hidden meaning. Xu Qing might not have caught it, but Ruan Manxiang understood immediately this was deliberately said for her ears.
Ruan Manxiang understood perfectly well, but she had always been the epitome of a gentleman in front of others. Even if Chu Nanqiao were to hurl insults at her now, she would simply mask it with a smile.
“Whatever Qiaoqiao says goes.”
